There seems to be a major issue with the 4.06 radio and my phone - every time I have tried to flash it (from both validated .img's and update.zips) my phone becomes extremely unstable afterwards.
It goes into booting loops, hangs at the X, when I get it to boot it crashes while using heavy 3G or WiFi data, reboots when plugged into USB and receiving a call and it becomes almost impossible to get into recovery mode etc, etc.
The only way to get back to a working phone is to revert to stock 4.04. I have tried 5 different times over the last 2 weeks now with the same results every time.
I am starting to wonder if it is a AT&T/Rogers N1 issue or something specific to my device. If it was my device I would think that flashing back to 4.04 would also cause problems but that is not the case. This makes me believe there is there maybe an incompatibility with the leaked Froyo radio.
Appreciate any thoughts/comments.
I'm not having that problem. I flashed Modaco's first FroYo repack with root and the new radio, and things have been fine. To be honest, the only thing I've noticed is that Bluetooth seems to sync a lot faster to the head unit in my car.
Did you do a complete wipe before you installed the update and what applications have you added that may not like the radio?
Edit to add: By the way, you guys have a kick-ass little HTC Magic up there. It may not be a Nexus One, but it more than holds it's own running cyanogen. I have an import that my wife is playing with. I really like it.
Have you tried the 4.6.00.12_7 radio as well ast the 4.6.00.2_2? The 12_7 is working flawlessly for me both on Froyo and on CM 5.0.8-derived ROMs.
I just verified my version - it's definitely the 4.6.00.12_7 Froyo radio firmware.

I tried the 12_7 last night and after flashing it using fastboot, my phone got stuck in a reboot loop. I could get back into fastboot and saw the new radio version on the screen but could not for the life of me get my phone to boot into either the rom or recovery mode - I pulled the battery, took out the SD card etc but nothing worked. This prevented me from flashing a ROM and I could not get into Recovery. After about an hour of trying, I managed to get the 4.04 radio flashed using fastboot and then my phone booted with no problems.
Previously, I tried the various Froyo builds and with no additional apps installed I would still get random roboots when using data via either 3G or WiFi - usually when I try to do something big like downloading/syncing a large file.
This is the story every time I try a 4.06 radio. 4.04 is rock solid.
Have you tried flashing the 4.6 radio via an update.zip as opposed to through fastboot? It's about the only other idea I can think of lol...
Just checked, I flashed the 2_2 last night, not 2_7.
I have flashed the radio via update.zip before and my phone worked but would be unstable. I will have to double check which version I used, could have been 2_2 as well.
codesplice said:
Come to think of it, that's the radio version I'm currently using, and that's where I got mine while I was running his ROM. So yes, flash that zip, flash Kangorama, and you should be square.

This is the same radio image I flashed two days ago and it worked for me quite well for an entire day (light 3G use) and then started crashing the phone when I tried downloading larger files (using the Audible app) via both WiFi and 3G in the evening. Once it started crashing I could not get into recovery until after I pulled my SD card. Once it booted OK without the SD card I put the card back and it booted ok again. It would still crash on heavy data use though.
Maybe try the 12_7 radio from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=692609 ? I'm fairly certain that is the same radio update that I have applied on my AT&T N1.
edit: disregard....

Did you try not running/removing the audible app and see about stability then? What else are you using? Not every app is going to play nice with newer firmware.

The crashes started just after I got the Rom installed.
I did the following:
- Nandriod backup (thank goodness for this!)
- I wiped all as per instructions
- Installed radio, rebooted OK
- Installed ROM (Rodriguesstyle 1.6)
- Booted OK into setup
- Configured my phone - first crash just after entering my gmail ID and the syncing of all the apps from the market started
- Rebooted, configured my phone again - apps installed this time but while configuring ChompSMS the phone rebooted again
- Rebooted, phone came up clean, ran OK all day
- Got home and tried syncing Audible content - phone crashed
- Could not get into recovery or boot the phone normally for almost an hour (pulling battery etc did not help)
- Pulled the SD Card and the phone booted, shut down, put the sd card in again, phone booted OK
- Got a phonecall, phone rebooted
- Got fed up and restored 4.04 radio and stock ROM
- Phone stable since
I was running the following apps:
- Autokiller
- Doubletwist Player
- Audible beta
- Silent Sleep
- ChompSMS 4.2
- Switchpro Widget
- Barcode Scanner
- ADW Launcher
- newsRob
- File manager
- Backgrounds
- Rom Manager

What kernel is the Rodrigessstyle ROM using?
Try Modaco's straight up Froyo repack - it has a stock kernel. I'd get as close to stock Froyo ROM/Radio as possible, see what I have and then go from there.
Also, make sure you're using an updated version of chompsms. I think I heard that reports were that it was not compatible with Froyo, but that it's been updated.

I used the stock kernel. ChompSMS 4.1 and later is compatible and I was using 4.2. I am planning on trying the new Kang-o-rama 0.8b1! (CM-5.0.8+2.6.34 Kernel) rather than Froyo - if only I can get the radio to flash.

Why not start with FroYo - the ROM the radio was meant to work with - before flashing anything else? If it doesn't run then, you have a real problem. otherwise, you have no idea where the problem is.

Point taken. Back to the basics.
I came straight from Rodriguesstyle 1.6 with the included add-on OV/UV kernel to Kang 0.8b1 without any issues. Even got the 720p hack working beautifully
well i am using the new froyo radio with my ATT nexus one, and its been no different than the old radio. no crashes or anything. however, i had NO idea that there were 2 froyo radios. is that what someone just posted on the first page?
I have had a simmilar experienc, but it is NOT froyo related.
I was rooted, on the desire ROM
It was restarting at seemingly random (and frequent) times through the day -
I reflashed to stock 2.1.
During setup, phone rebooted.
Got through sign-in. Installed some apps. Phone rebooted.
Phone was absolutely fine, as long as I didn't touch it. I would use it - browse, etc. Seemed to be fine. Would then reboot. FLashed it up to froyo. Same.
I think it's the bad RAM issue i've seen reports of, but I'm not sure. Sent in for a replacement.
Let's hope that's not OPs issue, though the problem seems to be pointed in that kind of direction. Hope you get your situation resolved under warranty.

Hello, (and I apologize if I didn't search enough, or if I posted in the wrong place),
Am currently running Froyo on my N1 and really liking it. Flash is really nice to see! Though not essential, it is neat to see the "whole" internet on a mobile platform for the first time (coming from BB, WM & an iPhone 3gs). As well, it is nice to just watch videos and stream podcasts in the browser sometimes.
In any case, I've never been able to access the web through the browser on Froyo (though facebook, email, market, etc work fine). Wifi works fine, but I can't connect with the browser through 3G/HSPA.
In the process of upgrading to Froyo, I flashed a different recovery image, thus have no access to nandroid (I was running CM 5.07? before with Amon's RA recovery image).
I tried to re-flash the RA recovery image, reasoning that I could do a nandroid backup of my Froyo setup (I do like it) and switch back and forth to my CM setup. I was able to flash the RA recovery no problem, but couldn't boot to it (pressing trackball and power, then scrolling to recovery only got me to the caution sign and robot graphic).
Am I doing anything wrong? Is there another recovery image that will allow me to make a nandroid backup and access the ones I have?
Thanks so much in advance,
Randy
Hmmm... now market apps won't re-download...
I managed to get the RA recovery back on, and am back on CM (yay!)
Only thing is, now none of my Market Apps will update, and I can't seem to download any new ones.
I remember seeing some posts about market issues when downgrading from Froyo, guess I'll search.
If anyone has any insight in the meantime though...
I'm wondering if it has anything to do with the kernel or radio that would have been updated when going to Froyo. Don't know much about those things, guess I'll do some research.
Did you downgrade the radio?
I didn't downgrade the radio, ended up re-installing CM and setting everything up from scratch (which wasn't a bad thing, was getting a little untidy ).
Market is working fine now.
Though one problem I still have (and have had with every ROM I've used other than stock - Modaco's Sense, several versions of CM and the Froyo leaked ROM (though not the most recent one) is wfif vs 3g/HSDPA. On all of the ROM's save Froyo, I have been unable to connect with the browser on wifi (though syncing, facebook, feedr, etc. all worked fine). On Froyo it was the opposite; I could only connect via the browser on wifi, but everything else worked fine on 3g/HSDPA.
I'm wondering if it has something to do with the Kernel or radio, two things I know little about. I realize that this thread is not the best place to ask about these, and that I should do some research first
My CAP cant go to recovery and due to that i didn't play to much with it.
Is this a major problem? Or am i over reacting and its ok. Just use rom manager and use it for going to recovery

As long as you can see a screen or have your computer see it (ADB Reboot Recovery) you should be ok. I'd just be extra careful on what your doing to ensure you keep your screen alive.
Some builds seem to break that option to allow you to go into recovery/download/master reset.
Meh - gotta love android.

So you are installing custom roms and stuff like that? what if something goes wrong, the captivate wont boot normaly and the only way to revive it is to go into recovery mode?
I'm pretty sure the official jh7 firmware update is supposed to fix that, it did for a lot of people. have you tried that?

What are you currently running? Stock AT&T build seems to break the options to download/recover etc.. Not to mention for me it was causing random shutdowns, horrible GPS functionality, and was over all lagged and slow.
If you don't know what your doing though? I wouldn't recommend flashing to a different ROM as you could "semi-brick" your phone requiring a 1-click ODIN restore.
ROM manager is better, well for me at least.
right now i'm on stock, waiting for a good 2.2
using SuperOneClick v1.4 to root so i can use rom manager
Just installed these earlier(Odin method) on my 100% OEM gingerbread captivate and I ran in to some issues.
-I'm noticing some sluggishness in various actions, i.e. unlocking the phone, using the connect-the-dots lock screen, etc. Didn't do this before.
-Seems like the battery is draining a little faster than normal.
-Seems like I have less free memory than normal.
-I can not figure out how to fit a wallpaper to a single screen since I don't keep icons on the other screens and even deleted/disabled them in the launcher desktop settings. When I go to wallpapers > gallery > my wallpapers folder > my wallpaper I always choose the rectangle option and click/drag and set that. Now I can only see a small portion of that rectangle as it seems to be zoomed in like 50x. Does it with every custom wallpaper I try.

Really? I'm currently running same as yours Legend 5 ICS with Corn 7.06 and my results are far more different than yours. I have experiencing any of issues or what so ever and I have more free memory than the past Legend 4. I'll suggest that you FLASH back to STOCK KK4 using One click Odin in the development section so it will be a fresh and clean reflash. Then root your phone using this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1680048 and get CWM. Then FLASH the LEGEND 5 ICS FULL WIPE ROM in CWM. Wait and poof! All is good.
Did you upgrade from another ROM? A previous version of Legend? Go back and flash the full wipe version of Legend. I think you'll see your problems go away.
@ red and takeoutt thanks for the posts @ op hopefully the issues will be taken care of with the one click takeoutt recommended if not feel free to to bring up any other issues you have on the Legend Q&A thread..

What are the steps for reinstalling the Legend 5 ROM? With Corn 7.06 Kernal I booted the phone in recovery mode and used that new kernal menu to install the ROM.zip from internalSD, I'm assuming the process will be about the same?
Do I need to reinstall GB bootloaders or will those always be on my phone due to previously having GB?
Anything else in particular I need to know before doing this?

Pretty sure that's what I went with before, "Legend_v5_KK4_ICS_FW.zip," but maybe it was that 7.06 kernel giving me issues.
Do you know if this wipe/reinstall will give m back my ability to fit backgrounds to my screen again? That's a HUGE annoyance mainly because I only use a single screen, I removed the other blank screens via the holo launcher, and it still stretches my backgrounds for some reason. I'm wondering if I just need to crop my images to single-screen size for them to work properly.
ETA: OdinOneClick got me set back to OEM KK4 without issue. That custom batch file got me rooted and set to Corn 7.0a Kernel without issue. Now rebooting in to recovery mode once more so I can reinstall Legend 5 ICS FW.
Just finished reinstalling Legend 5 and all my apps.
Seems to be running a bit smoother than before., memory free is about the same, but wallpapers are still showing as zoomed in when I choose them(uploaded to externalSD or Zedge wallpapers). Any idea on how to fix this?
I use Go Launcher so I can't say for sure...
Give me a few minutes and I'll switch launchers and see.....
It does this across Go Launcher and Holo Launcher. Touchwiz seems to keep it the normal size.
Now I have to go restore my Go Launcher from backup because I hit the wrong button.....grrrr
What do these launchers do exactly, and what would some pros/cons be if I switched from holo to something like touchwiz?

The launcher is what lists your programs and shows you the home screen. Some add new features, some use less memory, some are just plain faster. You just need to try them and see what you like best. You might want to download a program called desk migrate to help move your layout between the different launchers.
Thanks. I'll see whats out there and give them a try.
Can't really seem to figure out what launcher my phone has(OEM) and where I can find other launchers.
What launchers and themes are compatible with Legend 5 ICS? I guess it would help to know what's been tested before I just go throwing whatever on this phone.
ETA: robm1911's "Stainless" theme for the Captivate is awesome looking. Not sure on compatibility, though.
I find the holo luncher very responsive and snappy. Got no problems at all really.

Hololauncher worked great for me, but it kept zooming in on my wallpapers which was a deal breaker for me.
Touchwhiz 4.0(in second post of L5 thread and listed as TW4) not only fixed that resolution problem, but it also offers more customizations and seems just as snappy as HL did. Definitely worth trying out, just use homeswitcher from the market to switch back and forth between launchers if you don't want to make a full commitment to just one.
The app that either you or rob recommended that backs up your settings and moves them between launchers did not work for me. It downloaded and installed but wouldn't do anything when I tried to run it. No biggie as I only run 2 screens, homescreen for apps and second screen for games. Not too much to set up.
Has anyone tested TW4.5 with L5? I guess it's just a re-work of 4.0 with some extra options thrown in.
have you tried go launcher ex?
i think it has the option whether to zoom in your image or letting it display normally on the wallpaper
Been having this problem since the last 2 days, The Keyboard FCs as soon as the phone is started, no use clearing the Data. Tried various roms, Slim, RemICS-JB, CM-10. So I think its down to the kernel, is anyone else experiencing similar issues?

Kernels don't affect keyboards (or most apps for that matter).
Have you tried it without restoring anything?
Also, are you doing a clean flash when trying other ROMs?
you could try installing touchpal from google play but could be tough getting it from Google play on your phone if you can't type it into search. lol.
better way maybe: you could load it from Google play via a pc web browser, which should send it to your phone, no working keyboard needed. then go to your settings, and select TouchPal as default.

He should have access to other keyboards already. As for a 3rd party keyboard, it's up to personal preference but if I had to suggest one, I'd say swiftkey (there's a free version and a flow version *swype-like*)
Thanks, I'll take a look at swiftkey.
Touchpal has the swype style entry as well, but it is laggy starting on first use after boot.

The thing is I wasn't logged in my account so couldn't install through PC as well, I had to do a ODIN back to stock and now I'm running Gingerbread. Will try out different Rom's till I get one working.
All the Roms I flashed were a clean flash so no apps interfering with the keyboard, I think this should solve the issue, will keep you guys posted. Thanks a lot for your suggestions.
Okay, this is testing my patience, I'm through KJ3 NBL, KK4 with and without bootloaders, and I had issues rooting them with one click root (speroneclickv2.3.1-shortfuse) so I did a manual root via ODIN using Corn Kernel and flashed CWM and then after, I'm not able to flash any Rom (though I've tried only JB ones) and am getting a status 0 error. I'm able to flash kernels though. Any thoughts on where I should start?
And now I'm trying to ODIN back to stock and it is stuck at the D/L screen, making me want to scream and tear my hair.
EDIT: Can flash GB and ICS Roms, tried a couple and now I'm thinking I need to learn more about the partitions for JB roms. Ah well.....

It's quite simple actually, after you get status 0 error, you simply reflash as it needs to rebuild the partition on JB.

Worked like a charm, thanks a lot.But now its back to the same issue, Android Keyboard (AOSP) has stopped. It can't be that all the JB Roms I've downloaded have the same bug now right? Besides I have flashed previous versions as well which worked for me earlier but not now. This is ridiculous.
EDIT: Fixed after flashing Helly Bean 4.2 not sure what caused the issue, but I'm not gonna mess with it further, Thanks for the help guys.

Well my suggestion would be to use a different keyboard and freeze or uninstall that one. I'm really not sure why it won't work on your phone. it is app related though
