I seem to be having a lot of email discussions recently between groups of people. Having such discussions over email obviously has some big disadvantages compared to discussion forums.
What I need is a website that will allow me to create an ad-hoc discussion topic and limit it to a closed group of people. Ideally this will be achieved by having an obscure URL to the topic such that people do not need to register and its simply a case of sharing the URL (similar to how you can share private YouTube videos or Picasa albums).
Does anyone have any suggestions for this?

Yeah. But the service is still in Beta. From the track record of the company though, it'll never leave BETA.
It's called Google+
Ok, it's not a fully functional discussion forum but I managed to find this website which seems to a workable solution: http://www.quicktopic.com

Thanks for the links but I'm not sure why this is different from any other forum site. It doesn't appear to allow me to setup a private discussion topic. Have I missed something on those sites?

Hey its high time that XDA had an official community on networking sites..!!!
It becomes easy for the COOKs to communicate & also any prob's can be solved with much ease I guess..!!!
What's wrong with a forum?
Forgive me for saying so, but why is everybody so eager to expand xda to every different medium on the internet?
What's wrong with a forum? We've also got a wiki (albeit, the worst wiki software I've seen). For group chat there's also at least an IRC server that I know I've read about (never checked it out myself). Besides actual development-oriented tools (bug tracker, version control system, etc) what more do we need?
well i think there is one community on orkut for xda dont think thats official.
most of the discussions there are childish
and i guess orkut is preferred mostly in india (i also use it) and brazil
its not universal
maybe facebook can be an option
but still i personally prefer xda forums
its not that bad to have discussions chats etc
i dont think there is anything wrong here why should we go anywhere when we can do all that stuff on xda itself
just my personal opinion though
sorry if it is harsh
Please Post so the thread can remain Visible! Moderators don't appreciate when someone keeps bumping their own thread. A simple "thanks" will do.
I know there have been previous Threads for this but searching through all those posts to find people's names is a pain. So what I've done is created a Website where you can submit your Google+ name and have it Automatically Added to a Listing of People. Then you can just go through the Neat List instead of the Annoying skimming through forum posts from before. Another Bonus is that you won't have your Real Name tied to your XDA Account since it's an anonymous form.
I already have 53 people added to the List.
Go to the below URL to check it out. Remember that you have to Manually add people to your own "XDA Nook Color" Circle in order to talk to anyone, this site is just so it's easier to do that.
http://snipurl.com/xda-nookcolor-circle
If you messed up when adding your name just Post here or more directly PM me and I'll Fix it for you or Remove your Submission entirely.
If you have any Questions or Suggestions please post here.

shameless bump so people can see this
Cool idea!

How about a Facebook Group so it works properly where people can add/remove themselves instead?
G+ is lame where you have to individually add people to the Circle.

Same as refuse to use the #Nymwars identity network Google+. Meantime, thanks inportb.
What bothers me about Facebook is that now there's no way to join a group without administrator approval. Which is lame; almost as lame as having to add everyone manually into a Google+ circle. Does anyone have much experience with Facebook "pages"?
Perhaps what we need is a stickied thread listing a bunch of groups on various social networks that forum readers could avail themselves of.
I was told by a mod that this thread is fine. I won't throw this mod under a bus, but if this is not allowed please close.
I run an Android website with roughly 8-10 writers and YouTube reviewers. We are currently looking for 2 more writers and 2 more YouTube review guys or gals. This website is strictly Android and a lot of our news comes from the devs here at XDA (we ALWAYS link back here to XDA). We don't support warez or any kind or stealing peoples or business's work.
If this is something you're interested in and ready for a commitment, hit me up here in my pm or hangouts. ([email protected]).
We are an up and coming Android site that get fun review units and have recently added a forum. We're all set with mods for the forums, but need writers and youtubers.
Thanks for looking and mods if this is not allowed please shut this thread down.
Thanks,
Chef

[IMAGE] Deleted by violation of XDA rules. Sorry to XDA Admins, and Users.
Hi all XDA Tasker users!
Today I come with a proposal to begin with a new platform to start collecting profiles and different configurations, everything to have them all more at hand and in one place.
The method that will be used to get the profiles, tasks or projects, by now, will be through a short Google Form questionnaire, perfectly guided. At the same time, as the contributions are received, they will be reviewed and classified as aptly as possible to make their search as easy and intuitive as possible.
So, here you have:

This sounds like an excellent idea.......but sadly, not too many experienced Tasker users patrol this Sub-Forum here at XDA. I would recommend you post this topic all around the web in various Forums if you plan to get some real power. Here are some suggestions of more Active Tasker Communities.
1. Google+ pages. Not sure exactly where...but I know Google+ has quite a few active Tasker communities.
2. The official Tasker Google Group page. This is the primary Tasker community where the Tasker dev actually keep up with.
3. The AutoApps forums. Many Tasker users actively read those forums and would probably help support this effort.
4. Large threads on XDA which are about Tasker. For example, the Utter! thread on XDA seems to be an extremely active Tasker community.
Thank you for your help and suggestions! I will take a look.
Sorry users, but Y decided to stop the project by the moment. All submmits received will are stored until the project gone active again.
Ok guys, the site is almost ready. It won't become fully online until (February 06, 2017).
Will site be invite only?

No, public. By now, when you (as every other user) try to enter the site it will shows you that message because I made it available just for me for building porpuses only.
Tasker Profile Center is fully online! You can start sending your creations
Awesome idea. I will be checking it regularly and posting any working xmls I have. Thanks for this, sharing is in short supply these days.

Just import it to Tasker. Quick guide:
1. Unzip the file (.rar)
2. Extract the 'xxx.prf.xml' and copy it to (sdcard/Tasker/profiles)
3. Open Tasker and single tap on above Profile tab (where are Profile, Task, Scene, Variable)
4. Select option 'Import', and and internal browser will be open.
5. You will see there the file you just copied before to 'profiles' folder, so select it and you are done!
Note: I will upload a tutorial to do so on TPC.
Thanks for collecting and publishing the profiles. It's perfect to get fresh ideas for new projects.
Just a small note regarding the website: Could you please change the blogspot template to display the date of the article as well? It only displays the time which is kinda confusing, making it impossible to say whether this is an old or new post.
Thanks!

I will edit the code to add that feature.
You have now available chat group for Spanish language.
You all have now available a new Telegram channel about offers & discounts on a huge variety of apps and games of Google Play Store.
It will be updated daily!

Hi,
Your site is marked as unsafe because the SSL certificates don't match the domain name:
https://www.ssllabs.com/ssltest/analyze.html?d=www.taskerprofilecenter.blogspot.com.es
It now gives a warning in for example Chrome.
Suppose you would like to get that fixed.

Hi thanks, for showing me the error. But I checked it and i blog is already on HTTP secure connection. (check attached image)
XDA is forum for Custom ROMs, Discussion, Troubleshooting, etc.
From sometime Thread OP are creating a Telegram group to discuss bugs, troubleshooting and other things, and posting the Links in OP then what is meaning of creating threads on XDA. Why XDA mods are allowing these threads. My personal opinion is all the discussions regarding the ROM or Kernel should go on thread not on other platforms.
What do other XDA members think. Share your views here to stop these practice's.

I understand what your referring to as I've seen this as well from time to time...
I had thought that there was an XDA Forum Rule(s) that restricts the sole use of the Telegram on the forum (I believe that there's more to this rule as well)
The choice of one of the following threads is probably your best bet for providing this type of feedback.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1976627
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1987254
Only a Moderator/Administrator (like @MikeChannon or @Darth for example) can really provide a clear outline/understanding for this rule.
Good Luck!

There's this we put out not long ago, https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8/how-to/telegram-chat-channels-forward-t3764521
Basically, no TG links should be anywhere on xda, except in post number one of a development thread, only. We realize devs may want some quick communication with members for some issues, and real time chat is obviously quick.
But no links to TG should be anywhere else on xda. :good:
Just hit report if you see links outside of the first post in a dev thread, and mods will handle it.

Thank you very much for your time with providing this valuable guidance!
Now I know more about the XDA Policy regarding this specific topic.
I am not a big fan of the Telegram being used as a primary means of support for a development and such that's posted on the Forum but, I felt that it could be an alternative tool in addition to active support on the said Developmental Thread posted.
Just my personal thoughts...

Exactly! One TG link in a dev thread op is supposed to be an optional way of communicating. Definitely never the only way. If it's found that a OP is only supporting, discussing or updating on Telegram, the thread would likely be closed if its discovered to be this way. :good:

Thank you for clearing this up.
Sometimes some user post a bug or need troubleshooting, other user guide him/her to a Telegram group for that specific thing and do not discuss it inside thread. This should not be permitted.
I think there should be strict rule regarding what is permitted to discuss outside the thread.

Just my opinion on this (and from what I understand regarding the XDA Rules)...
I believe that there can be certain circumstances with providing guidance via Telegram but, it shouldn't be the sole option for the member.
As a member myself, I actually don't use Telegram but, I have used it previously under certain circumstances that are very seldom if that.
As a developer myself, sometimes there's support/guidance that is preferred to be taken offline and, if needed, the results would be determined to be of value to other members within the thread or something that didn't.
I do personally prefer to keep most conversations on the thread as something beneficial to other members but, there has been occasions that I'd prefer to take it offline to prevent misunderstandings and confusion.
I hope that I had stated the above okay via text...
I did notice that this discussion was also continued elsewhere, and even responded to by @the_scotsman and @Weapon X as well...

I understand the want for this but lets all really be honest. Development and support has been moved off XDA for years. A forum setup just doesnt really benefit the fast paced nature of currant development. Even back when I made roms for the old Galaxy S1 the team would do all development off site. Mostly because it was a faster response time. XDA has become a staging ground for roms while everything development and learning are done in chats. Like The most popular telegram or whats app and I hear some are even using discord (not sure about that last one as it seems out of place on a gaming messaging platform but hey)
As for the rule about the link only being in the OP. Well they have been getting around that by sending PM with the links or just flat out posting the links. No one reports it so no mods see it unless they stumble upon it.
If XDA wants to remain somewhere other then a place to post rom links thy might want to figure out that IM style messaging setup sooner or later.
Darth I can tell you that thererare many roms that are only updating on telegram and only offer support there as well. Everything posted here is just the "stable" versions if you know what I mean. Long has XDA been being used as a traffic grab by many.
Just my 2cents.
Is Custom ROM safe to install in smartphones? because most of the custom ROM's soft brick the phone.
