I just want a 7" Android 2.3 phone - Off-topic

I'm attempting to replace my HTC HD2 that is running 2.3 and netbook. That is, I'm going to try using a tablet only. I'm a web surfer/emailer/texter and that's about it. How hard could this be? Here's what I want:
Android 2.3 (Honeycomb is fine, too.)
7" Screen (that doesn't totally suck)
3g
GPS
Bluetooth
I don't need speed. I just want to be able to use it like a normal phone, but with a bluetooth headset.
What's out there? I'll even consider made in China junk...if someone can convince me that it's not total junk. I'm sure others like myself (giant sized hands) would want this rather odd size for a daily use phone, no?

Right now, the closest thing that looks acceptable is the Viewsonic ViewPad 7". Mixed reviews, but I'm assuming at some point Gingerbread and overclocking will help it out.

please, please...dont consider china junk...
i totally agreed with viewpad 7" choice

hi
yes i agree..............

A non-USA Galaxy Tab?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using XDA App

7" phone? Wtf, you must be a giant for real...

Samsung Galaxy tab (P1000). I think it's by far the best 7" choice.
One other thing: if you want to use it as a phone, you can exclude Honeycomb tablets, since Honeycomb does not support phone functionality.

Thanks for the info!
Why non-US Galaxy Tab? I've got friends in England and Australia who visit here often, and could bring one over for me.

Its the one with the phone enabled modem.

Ouch! $600 USD for the UK version new. Yes the dollar become the peso?

I believe the 7" Asus MEMO tablet is supposed to be capable of voice calls, plus it should have better specs that the Galaxy Tab (720p screen and a dual-core CPU if memory serves).

The Dell Streak 7" does all that...

+1 on the Dell Streak, very good device indeed.

Isn't 7" a bit excessive for a phone?
I chose the Desire S over the Desire HD because 4.3" was too big, I couldn't imagine trying to take a call on a 7" screened handset =P

Exactly...

He said that he will use it with a headset so I don't see how the size is a big factor. I have the sensation with a 4.3 inch screen and while it is much better than the g1 I came from, I still wouldn't mind a bigger screen.

Hey guys, get whatever 3g tab you want, and install skype, use with a BT headset. all your problems solved.

samsung galaxy tab love it as my all in one

7" is fine for me, for a phone. I have big pockets. Non issue.
Soooooo...
I use google voice. I could use the standard phone and text, I suppose. To go to Skype would be a pain.
Does the Dell 7 really work as a phone?

Researching...researching.
I'm wondering if the Honeystreak rom here has a phone app. Couldn't find an answer.

[Q] Should I get a Tab 1 now that 2 is 10"

Just saw the news that the Tab 2 is 10.1". I had been waiting to buy a tablet for the Tab 2 with hopes of the upgraded hardware and still a 7" screen. I don't want a 10" screen for a tab.
I guess i'm just looking to see if the hardware on the Tab 1 is good enough for most things.
Guess I'm just disappointed in a 10".
Will you be using it as a phone? If yes, I would ask to re-think it twice about 10" for a phone lol
I actually am thinking about letting mine go and get a Dell Streak phone (the 5"). While I love the tab but I kinda miss being able to toss it in my pocket and don't have to use bluetooth.
Or you can just wait until Honeycomb will be released, at that time you will have an upgrade in your GT 7" from Samsung or from XDA.
At the moment the Hardware is capable enough to make everything you want, record video at 720, watch HD movies or play HD Games...
Personally, I would not move to a 10" Tab, as a 7" fits my needs.
I'm not moving. I don't have 1.
I was waiting to buy a tab till the 2, but it's 10". I've played with my friends Ipad, besides being locked down, I don't like how big it is. I really like the 7" size.
I don't think in NA I can use it as a phone. PLus I don't think I want a CDMA tab even tho My cell is Verizon.
I'm using it mainly as GPS, Game, email, hopefully Skype, etc. All over wifi. I travel for my job and would like to have this, and wherever I go I have wifi, and refuse to pay ~30-40/month for a data plan or w/e.
So was just looking to see if people felt I should get the 7". I mean I know it's my decisions, I guess I just want to know based on what I want to use it for, does it do it well.
I do plan on rooting it and stuff, I heard some of the ROM's actually remove a ton of the lag, and I doubt samsung will release HoneyComb so was hoping a xda developer would for the Tab, and the Tab would be powerful enough to run it.
The 10" was a big downer. I dont see any real use for a tab just in the home and a 10" is to big to have with you all the time plus its heavy for the hands/wrists to use longer times.
Now when im running Rotos JMI ontop a 1,4GHz ext4 kernel i cant realy ask for much more. The tab works great and are quick in the perfect format.
Would be fun if hc get ported to the sgt. But i will never buy a 10" when they are almost completly useless in my eyes.
EDIT: And i use my sgt as phone so i have it on me all the time. It fits in my front pockets on my pants without problems, but im a big dude so i have big pockets

I got big pockets too, the 7" fits.
I thought the tab 1 was 1GHZ not 1.4?. But you like it alot?
I don't think I can get calling in USA.
I'm glad the Tab 10.1 turned out to be a larger device. Now i can stop trying to figure out how to afford to upgrade, and stay with the Tab1 with its 7" of goodness.

He's flashed it with a custom kernel to run at 1.4.
If you buy the AT&T version, you can indeed get voice calling in the US, after you flash it with Euro firmware and insert a SIM from a voice plan device. You can also get it with the T-Mobile version, but there's a few issues with that. Good news is that both versions can use international firmware no problem, even if you don't want/use voice calling.
I'd stay the hell away from the Sprint and Verizon devices for a couple of reasons. The first is that they have less internal memory (2Gb vs 16Gb), and the other is that neither unit can use international firmware, leaving you almost entirely at the mercy of the carriers for upgrades.

This is the kind of information I was looking for. TY for taking time.
What about the Best Buy / Amazon version? Yea I was staying away from Verizon/CDMA. I have verizon for my phone cause of work, and not a huge fan.
However, I won't need calling on the Tab.
Does it function OK OC"d at 1.4? It doesn't get too hot? Stability issues?
Yea I don't want to be at mercy. I want to put honeycomb on it if I do get it. I probably will now that 2 is 10, so I'll get 1. Just gonna wait and see if price comes down to like 400 or somethign hopefully.
I am 7" fan, too. Would love to see a SGT with the specs of the new 10.1" SGT 2 (or xoom), but with 7" screen. I am not big man, but "rounded in middle" (spare tire). I can fit my SGT in back pocket, nicely. It has fully replaced my Nexus 1.
For the 7" fans, the question maybe to stick with SGT 1 or maybe look at Acer a100 (http://www.mobileburn.com/news.jsp?Id=13010) -- appears to be 7" but with Tegra 2 (and a bump in a few other areas). The 7" form factor may have been validated with rumors about a 7" ipad (but those rumor seem unsubstantiated) -- so that might make more manufacturers take notice.
What would be really intersting, IMHO, 6", or 6.5" with SGT (or better) specs. I am not sure a 5" with 1024x600 would work..
LG has an 8.9" odd ball too.....
I think there is some more to come from MWC...maybe sammy has a refresh for the 7" sgt too?
Don't forget Dell has a 7" tablet too and it has dual core CPU (unlike our SGT 7"). The only downer is screen size is 800x480.
I don't think you could buy a SGT (no contract) lesser than $450 unless used. Streak 7" is $450 no contract.
I was in the same boat - bought my GT two weeks ago on T-Mobile, hoping that if there is an announcement about GT2, I can take a look at it before my return window closes. And at 10" no thank you. I actually had an iPad for few months (my wife wanted it more than me...) but just sold it, because it kept sitting unused, as it was too big for a book reader or to take it with me everywhere, but too small for good browsing (have a 14.1" laptop with 1680x1050 res for that).
I looked at the Dell Streak 7, but that screen just plain sucks. It looks like Dell was trying to build something nice, then just decided last minute that 7" won't work, so they found the cheapest LCD they could lay their hands on. Not to mention the battery life...
While it would be nice to have a GT with dual-core, 1Gb RAM and all that, I think the current hardware is more than capable, and will run Honeycomb just fine. My next tablet would have to be a lot more powerful, and have higher res screen.
i will stay with my 7'' tab
the best thing about the tab is it's size and the cell phone. i dont want to go back walking around with two devices in my pocket, i used to have an iphone & a big ass ipad so i know what is like to walk with two devices not cool lol.who ever makes the next 7'' tab with all the good stuff and a cell phone included i'm buying that.

Well i came to the tab from a dell streak and i'll tell ya the tab does everything way better than the streak, except fit in your pocket...... i wont be going back to the streak.
Yea I've read about the Dell 7", not getting that for sure. Screen rez alone plus battery life, no TY.
So there is another 7" Tab coming?
EDIT: That Ace 7" seems nice, plus a WIFI only version. No word on release in USA tho, only Europe.
FYI: HTC annouced the 'flyer' at MWC. This is a 7" too. 1.5ghz, 1024x600, cameras, android 2.4 (?) or honeycomb, etc. GSM voice support unknown.

I think i may return my GT and wait for this. I will only be buying one Tab, so I gotta make the right choice.
Here is a decent comparison matrix of the newly announced Android tablets
http://www.droid-life.com/2011/02/1...-lg-g-slate-vs-samsung-tab-10-1-vs-htc-flyer/
no mention of phone/voice on any of these; this is a deal breaker for some of us.
It's a deal breaker for me as i was a "one gadget man"
my main reason i go with samsung was because it can be used as a phone
if it isn't i'd go with htc already
if flyer can be used as a phone too, i might be jumping ship to htc ^^

[Q] should I get this tablet

hey, I already have an expensive smartphone plan but I want all the experience of android so I am looking for a somewhat inexpensive WiFi only android powered tab with a good build quality (good specs, multitouch, at least 6-7 inches, 1ghz, you know, that stuff). I currently have a windows phone, but I used android long ago and I was wondering, is this the tab for me?
also, is the android experience good on the tab?
and another thing/ slightly off topic, if I bought apps in the amazon app store, can I download them on the samsung galaxy tab?
sorry for this barrage of questions, but I just don't know if this is the right tablet for me
The tab is the best 7inch tablet on the market hands down, i love mine to death and it goes everywhere with me besides the pub. It was my first android device, but its not that different from android phones ive used, its just wayyy better for gaming and web related stuff
Just to provide some colour (yes, that's the correct spelling of colour) to the argument:
No. Don't get one.
I also wouldnt buy one,
I just got one bbecause I only had 300€ and no cellphone, so this is my all in one device.
But it really isnt as great as I thought and if you have a gooood cellphone already a 7inch tablet wont give you much more functionality...
I thought it would be great, it is, but not really functional.
Thanks for the input. If I don't get this tablet, what tablet would you suggest (I don't have a laptop anymore so I want another mobile computing device, other than my tower) for under $500 USDollars?
Very subjective. Getting it or not depends on individual requirement. I had mine for more than 6 months now and still loving it; maybe because how I use it and suit my requirement. Lugging an 7" inch tablet with phone function everywhere is no joke. Quite heavy after a while. Well, my guess is, lugging an Ipad is also the same. And because it is my 1st Android; it just got better.

Since you already have a smartphone, get Viewsonic Gtablet and put a custom firmware on it as soon as it arrives.
I've had mine for a few months now and recently looked at the Xoom and the new Acer 10" tablets.
I don't use it for voice but use mobile data quite a lot.
After comparing I've decided to stay with the Galaxy Tab because, by far, it is the best made and (despite Samsung) developers are giving us all we need to keep the Tab great.
well, just tried out the sprint version in the store (any difference between that and wifi only in terms of the OS?) and I think that the tab is perfect in terms of hardware however, I will try out other options like that viewsonic Gtab 10 when I get the chance to.
thanks for all the input and opinions
If you just want an android experience, and don't really mind having a 3G, then Archos 70 can be a cheaper alternative. Otherwise, if you want to venture into the realm of 7" tablets and want a lot of customization or an pure eBook experience, the Nook Color will, errr, color you impressed.
Otherwise, if you want the best 7" android tablet that no other 7" android tablet can hold a candle to, then go on and get the tab.
@grammarfreak - Random thought, that's what they said too when I went to UK a year ago. The Philippines uses American English, so we say, "color" instead. Btw, do you guys spell it as, "Center" or, "Centre?"
Edit: accidentally typed 10" instead of 7" for the Nook

Don't get the Tab.. Buy a B&N Nook Color and put this on it.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=954902
It runs as fast as the Tab. Has WAY better XDA Development and cost 250 instead of 350.
I am regretting buying my Tab.. It's the most hostile dev forum I have seen for getting a straight answer to any question. that's not a good sign.
hmm, judging by the specs, the nook color may pay off as the better tablet (for the price) in the end except, does it have any HD output? that is important to me however, its not a deal breaker

You mean it can play 1080p without hiccups? If that's true, I'm buying
Nah nah nah.
Dont get a nook color. I had one and I sold it after a month. It was the first device that I've ever sold.
In comparison to the galaxy tab it pretty much sucks.
The mediaplaying capabilities are limited to 854•480 mp4 baseline profile.
So you have to start to convert again.
Not that I have a problem with converting, after a while of constant converting its very annoying....
The tab has overwhelming mediaplayingcapabilities. It has played absolutely EVERYTHING that I've thrown at it.
mkv, avi, xvid, mp4, mov. 1080p no problem.
I had to only convert some vids once, they where mov, the tab played them, but they didn't show up in the videoapp, so I converted them to mp4.
The tab is so cheap now. I wouldn't save those 100$ to get a nook.
If you really like the tab, you could also simply pop in the sim from your cellphone and use the tab as cellphone-replacement.
That's the way I use it, the tab is actually the first cellphone I've owned LOL.
I rather have a device that is a working jumbojet than a device that is a small plane and everyone is wanting it to be a spaceshuttle.....

Thanks, needed an opinion from someone who's had both devices.
well, I took a look at the Gtab (thx ravness for telling me) and the specs for that are amazing at an even more amazing price so I have added THAT to my list of possible tablet devices I might get.
so, does anyone have both/can tell me what the viewsonic Gtab is like compared to the galaxy tab?
and thanks for all the suggestions and, If I wasn't interested in tweaking my device(so as to make it how I want it to be) as soon as I get it, I would probably already have a galaxy tab however, Dual core 1.2Ghz processor does make the Gtab look nice (aside from the default homescreen/skin which looks and functions terribly).

New guy with new guy questions

I am an Evo 4G owner and love it .. I'm now in the market for a tablet. Is it better to get a honeycomb tablet or go with the Galaxy Tab and root it? I ask because I would really like to stay with Sprint but the Xoom is coming wi-fi only next week on Sprint. Looking for a little guidance here. Also, can I make video calls with the Galaxy Tab? Thanks Android fam!
Tricky question really....
The Galaxy Tab is a 7" device whereas the various Honeycomb Tablets that are appearing are all 10.1" devices. Is size a factor for you ?
The Galaxy Tab can be used as a phone (in the US you will need to root and modify it). I have been using my Tab as my only phone for 5 months now and can't imagine going back to using a 'regular' sized phone because the screens all look tiny to me now
A friend that works at Samsung told me that the new 10.1" and 8.9" Galaxy Tabs that are coming out soon will both be capable of making calls (again probably disabled in the US models).
I've played with an Acer Iconia 500 - 10.1" tablet running Honeycomb and it was a great experience, however its too big to carry everywhere and it doesn't have phone capability so it doesn't fit my needs.
So the question is how are you going to use it ? If you want something to sit at home then go for the new larger sized tablets, if you want something mobile to have with you all the time then the original 7" Galaxy Tab is the best option (especially if you get rid of your phone and use the tab instead).
Sean
Honestly, go for latest firmware. Many machine are already available with Honeycomb 3.0 so it would be wise to get the latest. Also, most of the machines running 3.0 come with dual core processor. That's my opinion.
Thanks for the info guys. My Evo is great and I am looking for a tablet to use more as a replacement for my laptop while on the move ... although using the galaxy tab for a phone does sound pretty good .. size wise, it sounds a little strange to use a tablet for a phone but I haven't went that way so I don't know ... I want to use it at home and on the go .. carrying a laptop everywhere has its advantages and disadvantages but the new tablets are going to be wifi only and that kind of defeats the purpose for me ... can the galaxy tab be rooted and used on 4G and are there roms that have honeycomb? Thanks for helping me out!
any other opinion or options?
If size dosen't matter for you then take a honeycomb tablet (iconia a500, asus transformer, galaxy tab 10.1...). Personnaly I like my galaxy tab 7, because of all the reasons listed by seanchk above.

I use my SGT 7" as a phone + tablet too, for the same reasons as above. Fair warning, the phone function works in speakerphone as a default unless you use the wired headset included in the package or buy a bluetooth headset which I do use.
~ A little thanks goes a looong way! ~
A 10" tablet to me is almost equivalent to the portability of a notebook for me. I have an ipad 2 (which my wife uses mostly now), and carrying it around was a hassle.
The tab is the perfect size because you can put it in your back pocket or your average jacket pocket. It's also nice to be able to hold it with one hand for an extended period without getting sore. The ipad 2 is a great device for using in bed but if I'm out and about, the galaxy tab is a lot more practical.

grukko, thanks for the input. I have been told that if I have an evo, I shouldn't bother with an android tablet. how do you feel on that comment? also, mobility is huge for me as this will be mainly used for on the go to replace having to carry a laptop everywhere. i am just wondering if the 10 inchers coming out on wifi only are going to be worth not having a 3G/4G connection.
also, I will be keeping my evo as I need a phone with unlimited minutes for business. i live in the US. just want to be happy and comfortable with my purchase.

Galaxy tab or viewsonic gTab

I'm looking to buy a cheap tablet. I was going to buy a sgt for $300 off of craigslist but today woot is offering a $275 viewsonic gtab. Which do you recommend?
10.1 screen with only 1024x600 resolution gives very low dpi , and it is android 2.2 not even 2.3 and honeycomb
they have 2.3 . And a start on honeycomb

official ? add fo that no 3g , no phone calls , one 1.3 camera and again bad dpi
I originally bought the Viewsonic tablet and hated the resolution and size. I thought I wanted the 10.1" screen but I quickly found that when holding it and trying to type it doesn't feel right because there is so much weight above your hands. Plus typing is a challenge on a larger tablet.
I will say that the processor and hardware is nice on the Viewsonic but surprisingly the display is terrible. When you think of Viewsonic I normally think of decent monitors so you would think the display is the one thing they get right. But it is only good when you are looking at it straight on. As I started using it I realized how much I want to launch an app and lay it down for a minute but still wanted to see the screen. That isn't possible with the display. Plus portrait mode is almost impossible to view.
The Tegra 2 processor and USB port for a keyboard/mouse is nice but since you can't see the screen it makes them a useless add on. Though I found that the 7" tablet is much easier to hold and type with. I like the weight distribution better on the smaller tablet and with pinch and zoom you don't really need the larger screen.
I bricked the gTab and returned it for the wifi version of the Tab and have never regretted it. There are some roms being developed for the gTab but not the wifi version of the Tab. But honestly the 2.2.1 version on the Tab is fine. I know the hardware specs aren't as good on the wifi only version of the Tab versus the 3G versions, but I have been extremely happy with the wifi only tablet. I am thinking of buying a second one since my wife keeps stealing mine.
I would say that for the money the Samsung is a better device than the gTab. If the screen was better I wouldn't say that but you will find the gTab display is almost unusable whereas the Tab has a great display and is easy to type on and use.
I'd get the $250 Tab from AT&T if the deal is still alive. 7" IPS >>> 10.1" crappy TN.
(You can flash the official Euro Gingerbread on the AT&T Tab.)

No contract, just a service plan you can cancel without ever activating.
If you like to hack and modify then the GTab. But if you want something that works, looks much better has pretty good support and is easier to hold and much lighter then the SGT. Get an SGT WiFi tab for $350 and its a much better deal than the GTab for $300. I love my SGT size and weight. I just returned an Iconia A500 because it was so uncomfortable to hold for long periods of time.
The GTab has no front facing camera right?

Yes it does. I own a Gtab. Got mine for $275. Yes Gtab specs are pretty good compared to the expensive alternatives. Yes the only downside is the viewable screen which is not as good as the transformer for example. Neverthless, its cheaper and it performs very similar. I'm running Cyanogen 7 2.3 stable on it. I'm running netflix streaming on it. Tegra games look good and no lag. It has a built in Mic as well as a USB port. No HDMI but with a help of a Dock, you can obtain it. It has a 16GB internal and i put in a 16GB external. If your budget is below $300 go for it..if you got the bux and can justify the cause, then go with the more expensive one.

It does have a FFC. The camera is pretty poor though. Even at the lower price I don't know if it is worth it.

Who's upgrading to Galaxy Tab 7.7?

I'm getting the 7.7 for sure when it is out!
I was debating whether to get an iPad2 whilst on holiday in Florida as prices are cheaper than UK.
But then the 7.7 came out!
Android > iOS FTW
WHAT ABOUT YOU GUYS?
- yes
- no
- not sure.
Please share your opinions! Whether you think it is a worthy upgrade or not!

Hi, I have an Archos 70 Internet Tablet, and I'm going to upgrade to the new Samsung Galaxy TAB 7.7, as soon as it's on the stores.
May be if available in Europe !

I'll be getting it as soon as it comes to Canada. I've been waiting for this tablet for quite some time.
if they sell it in US and the price is under $400, then I will get one. I have both Galaxy tab 7 and 10.1.
To be honest, I love my tab 7 more since it so easy to hold and most of the apps/games are compatiable with Gingerbread.
10.1 is nice and fast.. but it is a little bit too thin and too large. hahah.. I am probably the only one to complain the "thin".
Anyways, the 8.9 is still too large to hold by one hand (I have a small hand) as well as my 5 years son.
Tab 7 is almost perfect for me except the CPU is a little bit slow, there are some lagging..opening apps/games..
So, 7.7 is dual-core (small size) is perfect for me. Hope Samsung keeps the price low.. Anyways, I am selling the 10.1 Anyone?

Is the 10.1 only 1ghz dual core, so the 7.7 will be.much faster?

I'm thinking about jumping over to the xoom or acer a500, i am really cheesed off with the lack of support from samsung.
I bought my P1000, 3 days ago.. So now I am still ultra-happy..
I saw that 7.7'' but when will it come out..I could not wait..
I LOVE that amoled screen (after some time using P1000 than switch to My Galaxy S phone to do something.. only then I see that BIG diference between screens)
Anyway what is most important to me and if someone can answer me, as far as I can see this new tablet 7,7' will NOT have that she.t of nVidia Tegra..
So can I presume that new tablet it will support all video codec's as Tab P1000?
If it will I am definitely selling this (new one ) and geting 7.7..
Definitely gonna upgrade, but I dont think its gonna come out soon
and before that, I would love to taste the Ice Cream Sandwich 1st on the original tab
if the taste is good enough, i might prolong my tab life before upgrading since ICS is newer than honeycomb and prolly have better features too
I would never get an iPAD unless the incorporate some sort of cell phone capability, be it a remote device that belt clips with a display or actually on the ipad.
I love the SGT 7" that I have, it is perfect, for cell calls, and surfing the web. Think carefully, do you REALLY want to help the Apple machine make more money?
Does anyone know when it is coming out?
Actually when the last Galaxy tab 7 was released, could we buy it unlocked somewhere?
I ask because I need the new 7.7 to work with Bell. I already have a Bell 3g SIM card ready to go.
Thanks
If I could I would.
Once I have the money for the tab 7.7 ill definetley buy it.

Let's see, it's 7.7 so that's too big for a small tablet, won't fit in a pocket any more...
It runs Honeycomb rather than a phone version of android, I don't like honeycomb on larger tablets and surly its even worse on smaller screens... I have also yet to see an ambled screen that beats a common LCD (Galaxy Tab 7, iPhone 4, iPad all look much better than the Galaxy S 2 screen and it's supposed to be one of the best).
That means it can't replace my Galaxy Tab and it can't replace my iPad as it's smaller and would be missing some apps (mail and calendar for starters, android just can't compete with on that front IMO)...
So no, I won't be downgrading any of my current tablets
i like my galaxy tab 7 but im not sure if im going to invest in any more Samsung devices after they kinda wrote off this device as a red headed step child.
Ive put some thought into it and either the 7.7 or 8.9 would be nice i love the fact the 7 fits in my pocket. 7.7 has what i want and that's honey comb tables I'm a medical student and some of the apps like Google body are very useful.
So ya i think I'm gonna hop ship to 7.7 just hope there's a lot of good development on it get rid of that tw ux garbage
correction if http://sammyhub.com/2011/09/05/galaxy-tab-7-7-and-galaxy-note-pricing-for-scandinavian-countries/ is correct then no i will not be upgrading that's some insane pricing.
After using my tab as my phone for 12 months I've recently got myself a SGS2. I love the s2 and I really must disagree in regards to screen and picture quality. The S2 is far superior to my eyes. I miss my tab though, and have found it is used as a wifi device around my home as my primary portal to interwebs and the world! Its perfect and with the car kit set up in my kitchen (suction cup works well on my benchtop) it is extremely convenient and I love how connected I feel even when cooking breakfast! Its fantastic. The S2 is about to be violated and I'm hoping this'll breath new life into it but I can absolutely see myself going back to a tablet of around 7 or 8" and don't ever carry my 7" tab in my pocket so would lean towards the larger device... I would like to see a device that is a phone that goes inside a tablet that docks either @ your entertainment hub or in your car or both. The phone would be the primary CPU and such with each step providing supplementary hardware enhancing the GPU and CPU and memory extra. Or a more solid mirroring across devices.. its frustrating not being able to just put one device down and being able to continue seamlessly on another device.. its kinda exciting when you think how easy some of this would be with current tech.
I have more ideas.... but I've said too much already.. patents pending Nobleskill Inc.

I'll get the Galaxy Tab Plus, not the 7.7 one.
7.7'' is too large for my pockets and if a tab is not pocketable then it's useless to me. The Galaxy Tab Plus will have Android 3.2 and the same 7'' screen as the current tab. I'll stick to this form-factor forever (or just not upgrade my tab :-D).
Here's more info on the Tab Plus: http://thisismynext.com/2011/09/20/galaxy-tab-spotted-7-inch-honeycomb-tablet-t-mobile/
Dont think I will
I have been using the 7" for about six months and it satisfies everything I need. I can do my work on the go, remote some PC's that need fixing, surf, youtube and even gaming!!!
I don't think I will upgrade just for the sake of having a faster device as I haven't noticed any slowdown on this device.
The screen on this device I think is brighter than the s2 screen and clearer, maybe amoled is only for people with blue eyes!!!
