[Q] [Sprint] Galaxy Tab WIFI - Galaxy Tab Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Last night I updated to the OTA Gingerbread firmware update and have been having WIFI connection issues. I have tried changing the sleep state settings, disabling 3G and performing numerous factory resets. The WIFI connects, disconnects, scans for the router connects and repeats the process ad infinitum. A call to Sprint customer service resulted in "Please take the unit back to the store so the firmware can be DOWNGRADED." It was a very short call and I forgot to ask if there were other people with the same issue, but I am assuming it may be. Could someone else confirm or verify they have or do not have any WIFI problems. This is mostly for my own curiosity but maybe it's something else too.

Worked normal for me on Gingerbread...

Yup, my tab is working flawlessly on wifi. And i spend all day on it (WPA2 enterprise and WPA2-PSK.)

I don't. Try rebooting. Try flashing with Odin back to ea24.

Sounds like your update was corrupted. Try reverting back to ea24 and re-upgrading to gingerbread again. The instructions are all over in the development section. If you take it in it sounds like that is what sprint is going to do for you.

I have experience similar issue before "connects, disconnects, scans for the router connects and repeats the process ad infinitum". At that time, my solution is(suppose the network name is MyWifi) "Wi-Fi settings"->"MyWifi"->Forget.
Then, re-scan this network, re-enter the password etc...

Thanks for all the replies. I had to reflash the rom after a full wipe. Now that there is a rooted version I did the same thing...flashed twice to be sure.

[Q] WiFi issue after flashing Decad3nce's 1.1 r1 ROM

Hi all, newbie poster, but been on the forums for about 2 weeks. Thanks for all who have provided such great methods to unlock the full potential of the NC!
I flashed to Decad3nce's 1.1 ROM yesterday from my Autonootered 1.01 setup, and was able to get most issues worked out, but the one thing left that's bugging me is the WiFi. When I initially boot up, it seems the device recognizes my WiFi network, and connects. However, after I resume the NC from sleep, it doesn't reconnect to my access point. In fact, the only way I've been able to get the connection back it to use the stock browser, at which point I'm asked which network to connect to. It says my network is "remembered", but it won't connect automatically, I need to manually connect every time.
Any ideas on why this is happening, and how I can get the NC to automatically connect to my network after resuming from sleep?
Thank you!
Hi there. Wass havingg the same issue you had. Take a look at the instructions for enabling adhoc wifi on Nookdevs.com Wether you want to enable adhoc or not that's up to you. But i followed the directions for Settings Profile Pro from there. Now everytime i turn off my screen and turn it back in. My nook connects right away to my wifi network.
Edit: Mine connects fine. But with my wifes nook. If she is coming off a reboot. She would have to goto settings and connect initially. But after that. Everytime she turns off her screen and turns it back on it reconnects right away.
Good luck.

Been having a similar issue without the 1.1 rom. Can't connect to my own wifi unless i reboot router but it connects to other wifi fine.
Anyone hits a clue or is it my network (my laptops iphone and desktop all run fine on my wifi)

I had that problem with 1.01. It occured after I ran the script for swapping the adhoc and infrastructure supplicants without disabling wifi first. The only thing that fixed it for me was a full reset from 1.0.0. Router was a verizon fios router/modem.
I had this problem before and can't test if it still happens but for me it only happens with one wireless network and all the others are fine. Is that the way yours behaves? Since it worked fine with others I didn't really worry about it
You said you can only get it to work by opening the browser - does that mean it doesn't work if you toggle wifi off and on? That was usually how I got it to connect to that one network
Same issue. After sleeping it sees my AP but doesn't connect. Turning wifi off and on recovers it.

Well, it looks like no immediate solution to this other than starting from a factory reset. I restored my backup ROM from CWM that I saved prior to flashing to 1.1.0, and WiFi is working fine again, so I'll stay here on 1.0.1 until I hear of a solution. Plus, XDA app works as expected in 1.0.1 as well. Thanks for any additional help!
I'm having the same issue as others.
Decad3nce wanted some logs so I pasted them into PasteBin:
dmesg - pastebin.com/wsajYF77
logcat - pastebin.com/gPasCEtZ

Thanks for this post. This seems to have solved the problem for me.
Edit: Actually this didn't work I just didn't let it sleep long enough. Once it sleeps for several minutes WiFi requires a reset to reconnect.

Dmesg shows nothing wrong with tiwlan driver.
Logcat shows that the "nookwifimanager" just fails at reconnecting to preconfigured networks
Code:
D/NookWifiManager( 1188): Cannot connect to pre-configured networks
What kind of security do you have on your router? (might be wep bug)
Other than that, you can try using the patched wpa for ad-hoc
I was having an issue where it it would connect to Wi-Fi for a minute and then disconnect. I could turn off wi-fi and repeat the process. I restored to my last CW backup then I used the 1.1_r2 and everything worked perfectly. I'd rollback to the backup you did (if you followed Deced3nce's steps) then use the r2 update. It's made all the difference for me.
I flashed r2 and I'm having the same issue...I have to turn off/on wifi after it goes to sleep in order for it to connect

Did you flash it over top of r1? Or did you start with 1.0.1? And were you using any special kernels prior to the flash?
similar issue - wifi only works after a reboot. after sleep it can see but cannot connect to either adhoc or infrastructure networks. no fix other than to reboot. which is a huge PitA

[Q]WIFI not working everytime.

Hi,
I'm a proud O2X user.
Only issue I'm having right now is that WIFI won't start all the time.
Sometimes I enable WIFI and it gives me error.
Sometimes I enable WIFI and it directly works.
Most of the times when it ain't working, I soft reset and WIFI is powering on again.
I had this same issue on my DHD. That was caused by the kernell. So I think it's the same with my O2X. I'ma wait till 2.3.x cause I don't use WIFI that much. And If that doesn't fix the problem, I'ma make use of the VIP service.
Other people expierincing this issue.... ??
After I installed Juice defender I think it got a little more diffecult to connect. One time I experienced that my accesspoint in the list had status "Deactivated".

Mine is still stock not rooted....
And when WIFI does power on, it does connect to my accesspoint.
The funny thing is even trying to enable WIFI with hiddemenu doesn't work then aswell....
Got my O2X two days ago, and Wi-Fi reconnection after sleep mode simply doesn't work. It times out waiting for an IP address from the DNS service, disconnects, connects, waits for address, and fails again. Turning Wi-Fi off in Wi-Fi settings, and then turn it on again, solves the problem. Peculiar and annoying.

Same problem here
I called LG yesterday.
The 2.3 will be a big update.
Many thing should be fixed.
He noted:
E-mail client will be fixed.
Some lag in the UI would be fixed.
WIFI should be fixed.
Better powermanagement.
So hope these world will be true.
Or else I'ma trade it for a HTC HD7
Got the same problem, WIFI works sometimes and suddenly it doesn't.

This can be router/access point related. Using WPA2 Personal encryption causes my O2X to lose WIFI connection after a short while. Therefore, for those of you with problems, try disabling WIFI encryption (only for testing) or try some other encryption method.
If the phone wont connect to a open/non encrypted router or access point, then the problem lies with the phone (most likely but not for sure).
Try it out!

I got the "Deactivated" too. I got that when I had the phone Wifi sleep policy set to "When screen turns off". When I changed to "Never" it was stable. I have later changed to "Never when plugged in" and that has been stable too.
I will test reverting back to "When screen turns off" this weekend and see if the problem returns.

My WIFI won't start then. After Reboot it will work couple of times. But then again it gives ERROR while start WIFI.
I have had this happen to me the last few days, despite wifi working perfectly the entire of the first week I owned the phone.
I have seen both problems mentioned here:
Won't get past "obtaining IP address"
Switching it on or off says "error"
Also, in the case where it would error, I also noticed a significant slowdown. Plugging the phone and using ADB to read "top" gave me:
Code:
PID CPU% S #THR VSS RSS PCY UID Name
1284 49% R 1 0K 0K unk root dhd_dpc
19960 1% R 1 912K 428K fg root top
Which must be a rare issue as I could only find a reference to dhd_dpc messing up here, for a SGS owner who never got an answer.
Rebooting the phone always fixes these issues. Although sometimes going into airplane mode and out again will solve the "obtaining IP address" issue.
I only have the •Switching it on or off says "error" issue.
I figured out enabling disabling wifi with the LG Control buttons (in the notification bar) fixed this issue.
Now it is always working and not giving me error.
Back it the day with settings or the power management icons enabling wifi 9/10 times gave me error.

Did he mention when we could expect the update?
Btw, you should shut off the wifi-sleep in advanced settings, and the problem is solved. =)
I am a bit concerned..
My phone is connected fine to Wifi at home, and apparently this weekend I have used 91mb of network data!! I did not go out so my phone should have stayed connected to Wifi at all times. But when I wake it from sleep (only woke it when email or text notification came in) When the screen lock pops up there is the 3G/H icon that’s stays until I unlock the pattern – then the Wifi icon pops up….
Should it not stay connected to Wifi even in sleep, as how is it recovering emails and such??
I am eating up my 500mb allowance very quick even when on wifi!!!
I have had no problems with home wireless as my pc (on wireless) has over 500hrs uptime connected.

Don't worry ignore my prev 2 posts. Found the option. the "never" setting I would have through should have been dafault!

yes i have the same problem, but then i reset my linksys router, then it works again.
but i had the same problem with my htc hd2.
Same here.
I have turned sleep policy to never but wireless always drop in sleep mode (sometimes it just stop to reply to ping, other times it switch back to 3g).
I tried every different setting on router (beacon, auth, speed, channel...) and static IP, but still no luck :\

Debugging phone connectivity

Hi guys,
I'm still working on figuring out the connectivity issues of my O2X. My problem has been that my data connectivity intermittently drops out, and fails to establish one and move out of WiFi range.
I have completely reset my phone to stock with the latest updates available in Norway. This is baseband 622, and version number 10c. The problem I am consistently having is that whenever I have stayed on one connection type (WiFi or 3G/edge) for any length of time and then switch, the phone fails to establish a connection through the other service. This means that whenever I have been home connected to my WiFi for awhile and move out, mobile data is not established. Similarly, when I get home, it does not automatically connect to my home WiFi network. In both cases the solution is to turn on and off WiFi mobile data (sometimes several times) to re-establish the connection.
If I quickly moved in and out a range of my WiFi, the switches between the two connections without any problems.
This is with everything stock. Is there any point in trying the other basebands? I have tried a few of them already, but without consistently good results.
The alternative solution is to send it in for repair, but they will only tested, figure out that they cannot locate the problem because they do not have the funds stay with the same connection long enough, flash the phone with the latest firmware, and send it back. After repeat this three times, I'm entitled to a refund or a new device, but it means that I will basically be without my phone for around six weeks.
Any and all solutions are greatly appreciated.
Edit: I guess a possible solution is just to use Tasker or something similar to reset mymobile data connection when I leave WiFi, and regularly reset WiFi when on mobile data.
I believe I have the same problem.
The 3G data connection would drop about every 10 minutes.
I got the phone a week ago and it too came with 10c firmware and 0622 baseband.
I believe that this is a hardware problem because I have flashed other firmware + baseband combos and yet this same problem still occurs.
I have sent the phone back for repairs yesterday. I hope that they can fix this problem.
Again, its probably baseband related....
Same for me here

[Q] Wifi disconnects data network after gingerbread update (i9000m)

Used Odin to update to gingerbread from froyo on my i9000m the other day. Theres no service here at home unless I put the phone on the bathroom windowsill, so I didn't notice until today when I went to work that I wasn't getting any data network connection. Could make and receive calls fine, wifi works, but no data, so no browsing or facebook or any apps that require it. I called bell and they came to the conclusion that I have to send the phone in for repairs. Thats a absolute last resort, so I tried another factory reset, this time from the recovery menu. The first time, during set up I enabled wifi, this time on a hunch I did not, and it worked. Also note that the first time, the network connected for a split second before disconnecting again. Anyways, I was getting 3g fine, then I tried wifi, and it disconnected again. Turn off wifi, data comes back. Whats up with this?
Did you set your APN? Go
Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Network > APN Names
Then hit menu and add a new APN if none are there. If one is there, it's named something like 'browser' (at least that's what mine is called on my Bell i9000m) and I'm wrong. But I had this problem, and this is how I solved it. You can find the APN settings for your network by google-ing "[Provider] APN Settings]", and if you're on bell you can find them here:
http://support.bell.ca/en-on/Mobili..._Nexus_One_for_the_Bell_Mobility_HSPA_network
It says Nexus One but it works for all phones on bell.
settings are exactly as depicted on the bell site, except the apn was called browser instead of bell. changed that, same thing. other suggestions?
Can you tell me the version of gingerbread you're on, where you got the files, any mods to the firmware like pre rooting?
Sent from my GT-I9000M using XDA App
2.3.3, downloaded from here, no mods.
Alright, so totally stock. What's the version code? It should be UGKG3. Have you tried forcing a kies update with a registry hack? Was it one PDA when you flashed it or 3 files?
Sent from my GT-I9000M using XDA App
Yes, its UGKG3. I flashed with the PDA, PHONE and CSC files. I dont really know what you are talking about with regards to forcing a kies update, if you could explain I'd try it out
This has always happened to me, on Eclair, on Froyo, and now on Gingerbread. Whenever my Wifi is active *and* connected to a network, the Data through HSPA is automatically disconnected.
I always thought it was a battery saving feature - if you have Wifi access, and presumably internet access, then you don't need internet through the cell network, right?
So if you're not getting internet access when your wifi is active and connected, then perhaps it's a problem with your wifi router not passing external internet to your phone?
The thing is nothing changed besides the firmware. wifi worked fine here in the house before and no problems connecting to the data network on the go with wifi enabled. I'm really running out of ideas here.
I guess I misunderstood you before. Are you saying you have no data access at all when wifi is enabled, whether or not you are connected to a wifi network? If that is true, something is definitely wrong. That doesn't happen to me with KG3 - just checked.
Have you tried reflashing the modem file? Maybe it got messed up in your flash before?
Sent from my GT-I9000M using XDA App
yes, no data regardless of wifi connected or not, as long as its enabled.
which is the modem file?
just an update, this seems to have mysteriously fixed itself.

WiFi Issues

Not exactly certain where to post this (as I am not altogether certain the cause) so if mods have a suggestion to move it let me know.
I have a rooted Tmobile S6 (not rhe edge) running Sick as Hell custom Rom version X w/ Unikernel v9.
Periodically my WiFi signal will display the ER041 - DNS (or less frequently the ER081) error which I believe is related specifically to WiFi calling.
My GF has the exact same phone and the same setup (I think she has WiFi calling enabled as well).
I have run some tests previously where I turned WiFi calling off and still had hiccups with the WiFi (both home and at work).
It seems that when I clear the cache and reboot the issue resolves itself but only short term before I have to do it again.
No one else in the house is having WiFi issues such as me and I cannot seem to figure out if there is a setting that is throwing things off or what.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Mine does this too but it usually clears itself up within a minute or two.
OP, check your IP address to see if your phone is getting an IPv4 address. I don't know why, but my phone was having major issues with this. I still haven't figured out exactly what the issue was; I was on Sow Nice, flashing back to stock solved the problem. The phone was getting an ipv6 lease, just not ipv4, for no apparent reason.
If that doesn't help, I would advise setting network configuration manually. However if ipv4 isn't working, this may not solve the issue.
WiFi Issues
Alright gang I need some brainstorming...and curious if any other T-mobile Galaxy S6 users are experiencing this issue. I don't believe it is ROM related but thought I'd post the inquiry in here anyhow.
Specs:
T-Mobile Galaxy S6 (SM-G920T) rooted with Sick as Hell X and Unikernel v9.1.
Baseband: G920TUVS3DOJC
Issue:
WiFi is intermittent (both work and at home). WiFi will be running fine on this device and also on my Kindle Fire and at some point WiFi on my S6 will stop working. The WiFi icon will still appear and the up/down arrows will flash but I can't pull up Google search results, YouTube videos, etc.
I get a ER041 - DNS error which is related to wifi calling but I think this issue is in fact DNS related (I've googled and googled and am just not entirely certain, if it is DNS related, exactly how to change settings to thwart this issue going forward).
If I run a speedtest I will get a "Network Communication Issues" message. If I turn off WiFi and then turn it back on the connection is still broken.
HOWEVER, if I clear the cache and reboot the phone, it will connect to WiFi for a period of time until the connection gets broken once again.
My phone seems to be the only device experiencing this issue. I have booted into Safe Mode and the issue still occurs so it doesn't appear to be app related. The Smart Network switch has always been off as well so I know that isn't the culprit.
At work I'm not going to be able to check the router settings but obviously I can at home (at home 4 other users connect to WiFi no problem).
There has got to be some sort of tweak/button/setting that I'm just not catching that is causing this. It is irksome.
I recently did a factory reset but the issue is still persistent. Scanning the interwebs this seems to be a pretty common issue with the S6 and Lollipop.
Any ideas??

Keep in mind, the other kernels are international
source.
EDIT.... also uni kernel adds a default.prop in system that has ro.securestorage=false when it needs to be set to true for USA devices
I'd say at this time I can rule out the kernel (it's a been a few days now running Twisted v7.1). I honestly think it is a Samsung bug. Not just S6 users but Galaxy S7 users are now reporting the issue as well (there is a thread over at AndroidCentral).
Just like myself, those users are reporting that Smart Network switch and Blutetooth and the like are turned off/disabled and yet the problem persists.
I've had WiFi issues on an s6 edge. But I figured it out that if I'm near my microwave and it's on WiFi dies on the phone. Soon as the microwave goes off it works fine ?
