Hi guys,
I plan on getting the original Galaxy Tab but before I do so, I wanted to know if it makes a difference in terms of rootability/ROMs,etc...
I will only use it with wi-fi so it doesn't matter to me which carrier it is with but that said I do not want to get the wi-fi only version because I hear it is not as powerful as the ones sold by the carriers.
I personally prefer the Sprint one but that's just because it has the white back but I seriously want to make the right decision for the right reasons. I actually bought the asus transformer but I just love that feel of the galaxy tab in your hand, the way you can type, etc and for some reason I do not like honeycomb. I guess I am old school and just like the phone version of Android on my tab.
I'd really appreciate some inputs.
Thanks
You really should read the forum rules. this is the dev section. Questions go in the questions and answers section.

Thanks, I am aware of the forum rules. I've been around long enough and I know this is the DEV section but my question is kinda related to the developability of this device so that's why I thought this might be a more appropriate section.
If necessary, I'd appreciate if the admins can move it to the q&a section.
Thread should be moved, but I sent you a PM for things to consider when you purchase your Tab. My personal preference is GSM. Hit the thanks button if I helped a brother out.

Well you are obviously not aware of the rules otherwise you would know that no questions of ANY kind should be posted here, development based or not.
This section is for posting or work and reference ONLY!
Questions go in Q&A
Developments go in Developments
Simple as that

Fair enough, let's move it to Q&A then
You could have read and posted in my thread from several days ago with the exact same title.

I don't mean to be an ass here, but I, for one, would be happy to post all my questions in the Q&A section...but looking over there at the numerous questions on just the first page there are probably less than 100 replies, cummulatively, for all those questions. I've posted over there a couple of times and never got an answer from a Dev (the ones that could answer).
So, would you wiz dev and pro scripters please go over there every once and while and answer some questions, please! It would certainly help keep your forum more clean, which I agree, is out of control.
If you ask in the dev's original thread, you often do get an answer and keep from poluting the dev forums.
I'm just going to say it. This belongs in Q & A.
Most of the questions people ask are thread specific. If they would just read the thread that pertains to the question chances are it will be discussed in that thread. Now if it is a question that has not been talked about in their dev thread ask the question and they will respond. These guys have lives and are not solely on XDA 24/7

The "Search this thread" option above the thread actually works pretty well. For those of us who can't read 300+ pages of threads looking for an answer.

I agree, that's why some members keep asking on DEV section. No buddy you're not being an ass I understand your frustration.
As someone else stated, if you have a question about a specific thread in the dev forum, then ask it in that thread. Also try the "Search This Thread" option to see if your question has already been asked/answered.
I know some of those threads grow like crazy, but that's where those questions belong.
The devs do this work on their own free time and only get some donations from members. Most of the time I think they mainly monitor their thread or try to help out in other dev threads.
If someone in the community knows the answer and checks that section, then I'm sure they'll point you in the right direction too.
As a mod, I'm trying to keep the dev forum a little cleaner by moving stuff out of there...and IMO, having a General forum and a Q&A forum is a little redundant because lots of stuff in the general forum turns into questions.
I know this was posted in the General section, seeing as it pertains to development I Figured that if anyone not familiar with their way around, interested in development, would like to get their needs in one forum without having to switch to another.

I strongly disagree. Genereal should be for the people who dont know the standard operation of their phone (ie. first time droid owners). This developer section should be for software modifications to the system.
Of course my credibility is probably limited in that the forum moderator doesn't seem to agree either. I started a thread on making the bionic able to use the available recording software by modding it, and it was moved to the themes and apps section, lol.
At any rate, thanks lemonoid. this is very useful developer information. could you post the original thread so we may thank them as well?
Already a thread discussing this same thing

PS: This belongs to the General Section, without a doubt.
THREAD CLOSED
I'm wondering, is it really that hard to post in the correct section? Here are some threads that should be in Q&A, but all were on the first page in General when I copied their links:

That is 12 out of 20 threads (the stickied ones were not included) on the first page that weren't posted where they should be.
Also, I noticed that most of these threads were started by people with none to very few posts... Connection?
I sense that this thread might get closed for some reason.
The threads that I linked to should be closed/moved, or the newbies (mostly, some senior members as well..) who haven't yet developed the ability to read will soon post every single question they have in General...
My suggestion is increasing the post requirement before you can post in General.
A. Volunteer to become a moderator and hand down infractions or use the report post button.
B. Do you think you have any sort of authority over others and or think you are perfect?
C. Do you realize that your whiny post HAS NO PLACE HERE? (As does my response)

B: The OP is correct, the Q&A question exists for question, this one for general discussions. Where did he say he's perfect or above others?
C: Why not? He has a fair point. And I don't see him whining. What is your problem?
But I don't agree: Raising the post count for the General section is not a solution.
Maybe a new closed stickyied thread "This section is NOT for Questions you have, use Q&A for that" might help.
Reported my own post and suggested it to the mods.
Cheers.

Because the Q&A section is a no-man's land where no dev ever ventures. Trying to push the new guys that come here to the fringes is not the solution.

Apart from the fact that I and a couple others in fact ARE scanning the q&a section every now and then for questions which are lacking an answer and are not covered in any of the other threads:
That's not a valid reason to post in the wrong section. Especially considering the kind of questions linked in the OP which are pretty often already covered multiple times all over xda.

you're wrong they answer the questions that never been asked before if your question doesn't answer so search it first before creating a new thread if you search for an hour so search for a day and if you can't find it and you search for almost a day that's the right time to post don't post anything because you only want to reach 10 post to be able to post in developers section

The thing is when I go into the Q&A and see a bunch of old threads I am gonna think like that. I didn't talk out of my ass but went to the section and that was what compelled me to answer. The problems of this forum imo are solved with active moderation. Things like warnings, thread deletions and relocations. Until that investment is made we will be suffering this kind of problems.
at the beginning sry for all about the wrong place of the thread but it's the only way i can reach all dev-s
>>plz put arabic language in your custom ROMs and try to make it well ......i think it's easy for u to do that from v30b UAE cuz it's a big problem for me and im sure for others here.......letters are replaced by others in contacts/facebook/dictionaries/ etc
plz take care in that custom roms and sry again for all.
Wow...

Pretty simple really.....
If you see something that shouldnt be here then PM me....

OP, yet you knew it was wrong to post this in the Development Section....Moved! And please read the Form Rules on posting. Thank You.
Hi all! I just purchased this phone (being shipped in the mail, will have it within a week or two), and I've already been perusing these forums for how to root/unlock bootloader/etc.
As I was looking into these forums, one thing I could not find is the LED strip. Since I do not have the phone physically in front of me yet, I am unsure of how the phone names that feature, so I am not sure what to look for.
Are there any roms that utilize the LED strip at the bottom? Or will I have to stick with stock?
Also, sorry for the double post, I put this in both Android Dev, and Original Android Dev, because I am not sure which this would fall under, mods, feel free to move/delete if it's in the wrong section.
It should be in Q&A...
Use stock 4.3 if you want all the led features, or anything based on it eg: eXistenZ

So let me enlighten you as to how things are done here...
First of all, if you create a thread to ask a question, you create it in Q&A
Secondly, you don't duplicate threads just because you're not sure where to create them!
I notice in your other duplicate thread, that you wanted to argue with other members when they advised you that your thread was in the wrong place...
thehritzinator said:
In other forums on XDA, generally q&a about specific dev options goes in these two subsections. I've seen it, and participated in it, in forums such as Nexus 7, LG Optimus L9, and the Galaxy S2 and S3.

Wrong. The rule is site wide...
If you're in an existing ROM thread in a Development forum, you can ask a question there (if the OP allows) but you do NOT create a new thread in the Development forums to ask a question.
I hope you're clear on this now for the future.
