HDMI - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I can't say I know much of anything about the stuff I'm going to ask about in this thread (probably why I'm asking it, right?) But is there a possibility that the SGS could output a multimedia stream via USB to another piece of equipment that could then output to HDMI? Would this be something an arduino could handle?
Sent from the first phone to ever get a speeding ticket.

I don't think the Captivate has the inner hardware to support it.
I contacted Samsung about using the Micro Usb to HDMI Out cable for the TV out funtion and they that it would not work with this phone.

I'm not talking about USB to HDMI. I'm talking more along the lines of having a high def multimedia output via USB to another piece of hardware that can interpret the stream and output to HDMI in realtime.

If you have a way to connect it to a PC with and HDMI out, I'm not sure the capabilities of the captivate but if you have a way to get it from USB to either VGA or DVI dual link(specifally) you can get a converter from one of the two to HDMI, although from VGA to HDMI a converter is $100+ , I can't imagine it would be much different than getting a PC with VGA out connected to a TV with HDMI in, and that's the exact method I would use

[Q] 3.5mm Video Output

Hey guys just want to check that this is the right cable that'll work with my Galaxy S arriving in a few days
http://www.trademe.co.nz/Electronics-photography/TVs/Cables-aerials/auction-314849140.htm
So that should fit in my 3.5mm slot and give me video & audio output to the TV?
Also anyone had experience with these? What is the quality like?
Is it usable for watching a DivX movie or something on a friends TV?
there is a topic in the accessories forum
the cable you need is a nokia something something forgot the model #
i bough it on ebay for $3 free shipping, it works!!!!!!!
found it!
Nokia CA-75U
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7458985&postcount=47
Does it have to be that Nokia cable? Are they not the same?
I'm using Nokia's 3.5 jack video cable.
DivX quality is quite poor, I would not recommend watching over it, if it is a large screen tv, I've tried it on a small scale screen (23") where the video is watchable.
Is there not an HD cable available?
there is no such thing, because it is coming out of a coax 3.5 hole
you can't pass enough power to produce a high res video

U should review the following post
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=737825
and it doesn't end on the first page
did you notice that is not using the 3.5 plug?
they are trying to hack the USB to display HDMI which is currently not supported and not working
i found an App on Android Market to "enable" HDMI output via USB, but it's not compatible with our phone
then you will also need a cable from ebay to do the conversion from USB to HDMI
I did, lol, it's in the name of the post...
Probably the only way (if it is possible) to output HD signal on this phone is through microUSB.
PS
Through a cable of course...

[Q] TV Out ?

First off:
Running Cognition 3.04
TV is Vizio 32" LCD 1080P
3.5 mm to rca red,white,yellow
not sure the brand of cable, just one I had lying around.
I seem to be unable to get tv out to work. Is there a certain cable that works better than others?
TV OUT Settings are on, and using NTSC. I tried PAL also just in case. I tried all the tv input settings (av1,av2, ...etc)
Saw this work in numerous videos. I must be doing something wrong? Thanks in advance for any input!

I Had a similar experience but my TV is older... I just presumed that the TV couldn't handle the output. At one point I was able to get a really faint sketchy image of the phone that was live but nothing that would let me watch any videos from my phone with it.
Edit: I found Twonky Server Mobile in the Market and stream from my phone to my Xbox360 with no problems. I recommend the app it's great!
I went on ebay a typed iphone tv out get the one with a 3.5mm jack

Got it to work! It was the old cable I was using. I used my buddies nice new Belkin cable and it works great!
How does the quality look? Sound too?
Video Quality: Not so great, but I really didn't expect great quality through AV Cables.
Audio: Not bad at all!
I tried a couple games through headphones coming out of the tv, and the sound was real good.
Eh, not bad. Wish it had an HDMI OUT!

Exactly, that would be sweet. I read a post on here somewhere about a cable that is mini usb to hdmi, that Samsung made but then gave up on. Why oh why would they do that?
I bought a cable from radio shack and it works fine. Connected it to my 46" samsung hdtv and an older tube tv. The older tv only had a cable input so I connected the rca thru a vcr. Both work fine. One note u do need to switch the yellow and red cables when connecting to the tv. Colors wont match up to get it to work.

Well I'm not sure what cables you are using but, Yellow is video and white and red are audio on mine so that ain't happening. But as previously mentioned, I got it to work with new cable, matched all three colors.

i read this too on a forum with the following additional info: (not sure on accuracy)
the reason it doesnt work / needs update for HDMI cable to work has something to do with the dock, in order for HDMI to work in HD through USB it requires all 5 pins/wires, and programming the phone to use them for hdmi would stop the docking cradle from putting the phone into desktop mode.
Samsung basically had a choice to make. Docking cradle with dock mode OR usb/hdmi.
**once again that was read on a forum, truthiness may very.
I just posted an email to Samsung support about compatibility and what software is needed. I will let you know what I hear.
Hi guys , did someone finally manage to get this hdmi cable to work (Samsung ECC1HU0BBEB) with the captivate
I bought it , have tried several ROM's and still nothing yet ! No signal !

connect bionic to VGA computer monitor? adaptor?

Im getting the bionic dock in a couple fo days, and want to set it up in my office connected to a keyboard, mouse, and monitor. I have an old flat screen monitor from my PC, (which died), that has the pin connector. is there an adaptor that will go from the monitor, to the dock USB connector? I have googled, and cant find anything. every link was for items used to connect multiple monitors to one PC, and were more expensive than the bionic dock!
anyone know what I should be looking for, or if it even exists?
You definitely will need an expensive device to convert an HDMI signal to a VGA signal.
You've probably seen DVI to HDMI (and vice versa) converters that were relatively cheap before ($5 to $30). These devices are cheap because the signal doesn't actually have to be converted from digital to analog. The signal is basically just getting switched to different pins on the cable as it passes through the converter.
The signal coming out of our phones (HDMI) is a digital signal so to switch it to an analog signal (VGA) you need a scan converter. A scan converter is a device that actually converts each frame of video from one format to another. If you've ever converted a video file from one format to another on your PC, this is a somewhat similar process. For it to happen on the fly you need a specialized device (the scan converter).
Here is an example of what you would need.
You're right, these things are pretty expensive and you could buy a monitor with an HDMI input for close to the same cost.
Never thought I'd see a Utah person here I'm in layton

I remember seeing a Motorola accessory that allowed for vga output. http://m.motorola.com/Consumers/US-...hargers-and-Adapters/WEBTOP-VGA-ADAPTER-US-EN
But to work THROUGH a dock, that would take some doing. I'll look into this a little deeper after work.
xda premium is insane! ... In a good way.
Thanks! I guess I'm leaving it for now, and will just upgrade the monitor some day. Probably won't need to since the lapdock 500 should be here next week.

[Q] Micro USB to digital audio out adapter?

I was if Note is able to output "digital" audio signal via it's micro usb port. So, it can connect to a external DAC for better processing. Has anyone tried this or know where I can buy adapter for this purpose?

There has been some discussion in using an MHL HDMI adaptor and then an HDMI to digital out, like TOSLINK/OPTICAL. A bit clunky. The HMDI must output digital audio. I would like to see someone try it and report. I've found the sound quality a bit crappy.
Try playing a FLAC file as opposed to MP3. Really not worth bothering with MP3 if you are looking at an external DAC.
So I found this
Expensive but its an HDMI to headphone amp. 24/192k 110dB
Some newer HTav amps have HDMI input, would love to see someone hook up a note to one and report on audio quality!
and this. Bit cheaper, but if anyone has one, rip it open and tell us what the chips are!
The s3 has usb audio support. Check it out over in the S3 forums or google it. only certain usb dacs are Supported hopefully it will be ported to the Note! if you have ICS, root and a usb audio device you could check dmesg output. Can't post links from my phone. I read about the glandos kernel that might be worth looking at. Its some exciting development.

Possible to hook multiple devices up via micro usb port?

Hello all. Planning to get a MHL 2.0 cable for my note 3 but I also want to hook up a keyboard and mouse. I have a logitech k/b that uses wireless signal via a USB dongle. I figured the OTG cable would suffice but naturally once the MHL cable is in, there is no way to also use the OTG cable. Curious if there is some sort of hub that allows at least 1x micro usb and 1x full size usb, or some sort of splitter? I realize a bluetooth keyboard and mouse is probably another solution but would prefer to avoid if I could.
Thanks!
In other words, you want to make your phone a desktop computer?
yeh basically. Easier to work while on my lunch break. Thanks
Yes.
I made a pretty ghetto setup but it works.
What you will need is an OTG cable
A stand
And a powered USB hub
Mine is home made, but I believe they have this options made into a dock for this phone.

I was hoping to do the same thing. But through bluetooth. I have a bluetooth keyboard that connects but I just got a lenovo n700 bluetooth mouse but my phone wouldn't recognize it. :/
The mouse connected to my ipad though...

After my post I came across the Samsung Smart Dock, which looks to do what Im trying to accomplish. May invest in that, a little pricey though
As for the idea above, I still need to have a Micro USB for the MHL right? Or can I get an adapter to do USB to Micro USB to make it work?
You need an 11 pin adapter for MHL. Samsung and rocket fish sell the correct equipment.
