I am looking to get one of these two headsets for use with my Nexus S as well as my Galaxy Tab(Skype purposes). For anyone who has had either of these, which one do you prefer and why? I want to get the one that will work BEST with my Android phone. Also, can these headsets(both A2DP) be used while on a Skype voice call?
I love my Icon I can hear very well and people say I sound great. I don't use Skype so I can't answer that. Pick one if you don't like it return it for the other.

Have you looked into the Blueant T1? Its similar to the Q1 but actually works with Android's built in voice commands.
I use the Blueant Q2, and I've found it to be the best headset thus far, and works great on my i9020T. Voice commands work, and you can answer or ignore calls by simply saying "answer" or "ignore". It also says who's calling from the phonebook because the Q2 requests the phonebook after pairing.
It's clear, works great in a workplace setting (I work at Costco selling phones at the kiosk), and its battery is decent enough for a full day of work (about 10-14 hrs straight, 2-3 hrs music listening).

Your saying that the Voice Actions such as 'send message to' and 'navigate to' work with the Q2 and your not talking about the voice commands? If so, I will most likely pick up the Q2.

I'll double check for you tomorrow since it's charging right now. I haven't actually used the Voice Actions without using a bluetooth headset, so it'll be fun trying to do so. I believe voice to text works properly though.
Any update? I am really curious if the Q1 works with the Voice Actions as well. I would assume that if the Q2 does, the Q1 will.
Anyone?

I have both Q1 and Jawbone. Look wise I prefer Q1 but sound quality there's no match between the two (icon wins by very-very Far). Both has A2DP, both have voice control, both have app for android.. but.... jawbone is more polished in all aspect. download the apps yourself and try it out. You don't really need to have the product to check out their app. Q1 is an older product so this really isn't a fair match
Does Skype and Google Voice Actions work with the Jawbone Icon?

I own both of these headsets and the Blueant ones annoy the crap out of me. I love my icon and the noise cancellation is a bit better.
I've used both and discarded both. After long consideration I went with the Bose and haven't regretted it one bit. The sound quality is amazing - I always had problems with road noise interfering with phone calls, but not anymore.
The fit is excellent as well - I can leave it in my ear all day long and not notice it. Volume is great, and I love the ability to pair it to multiple devices - up to 6!
Downside is cost of course, but as much as I use it, the $150 was well spent.
I use blue ant Q2 and have used both icon era & Q1. To me the blue ants are more efficient.

I am pretty sure I am not the first one to think along these lines, so I am seeing if anybody has heard any announcements along these lines from hardware companies, as I would be very interested in this kind of setup.
Basically, what I have in mind is a sort of bluetooth-connected phone, with a minimal screen and numberpad that would be paired with a tablet with voice capabilites to act as a real phone while the tablet is tucked away in a bag or pocket. So basically you could treat it as a phone, while the tablet is actually doing all the work.
The advantage being you could have full tablet and phone capabilites from two pieces of hardware while being on one phone plan, not to mention the phone could be made incredibly small and light as there would be much less hardware necessary for it to function.
Now naturally as the voice and data enabled tablet space is just now reaching the market, I wouldn't expect anything to be available, but as I said before I can't be the first one to think of this, so if anybody has heard of any murmurs regarding such an idea please do tell.

I don't think so, it wasn't mentioned in the initial announcement/press release IIRC.
Also, on one of the pages on SE's site about the features of LiveView, it says:Communications
Messaging - Display incoming SMS
. . . . . . . - Display RSS feeds
Social networking services - Display Facebook™ updates
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . - Display Twitter™ updates
Calls - Show phone number for incoming calls
. .. . - Mute ringer for incoming phone calls
No mention of calls whatsoever.
I think you're probably as well off going for a standard bluetooth headset and maybe using voice-dialling or just dialling from the Tab itself.
I found this one that seems to be a full handset for bt:
Canyon CNP-VTW1 Wireless Bluetooth Voip Phone
This little nifty thing is cool. I had one of these earlier. They where bundled with some Acer laptops earlier. Works just as a bt headset.
Acer Bluetooth VoIP Skype Phone
Hmm, double post
This doesn't have the keyboard you mentioned...
But it is a pretty cool device... bluetooth speaker separate from the Tab...
BT receiver/ speaker with text recognition as well... and calls out name or phone number of person calling.
okay... xda won't let me post a link cus I'm new... google frommy+galaxy tab+bluetooth speaker
and it should pull up.
I have bought a QLA bluetooth for my tab, after paired, I can just use it as a mini phone. Please refer to this page. Sorry, it's Chinese page, but you can check the image, just what you want - screen, dial pad, and download contacts from Phone.

I use Plantronics Bluetooth ear piece, works great, also there is a free app that allows for ALL audio from the SGT to be forced out the BT.
agreed very much possible. BT headset im using is Hisense HB200S connected to 2 of my phones at the same time.
Not really what I was thinking of. I'm saying use the tablet as a bluetooth headset. So when i jump in the car phone calls are automatically routed from my phone into the tablet which is hooked up to the audio system of my car.
so it would essentially function as a really nice car stereo but have all the added functionality of a android tablet.
data through bluetooth would be super awesome, but this is kinda shooting for the stars.
Did you find any solution?

I 100% agree, I need this feature as well. We clearly are not the only ones. This essentially is centered around someone with development skills using the Bluetooth Headset Profile to have the tablet show up as bluetooth headset or handsfree to the phone.
With that it'd be great for it to pull contacts (if you dont sync contacts with google), receive texts, receive calls, dial, voice dial, etc. Out of all those, i really just want to be able to receive calls and have them routed to the tab. Everything else is a bonus.
Should we start a bounty?
Let's do..whatever, to make this happen! I would pay!
Pioneer navigation in my car can do it but I want to replace it with android. This is the only reason why I can't do it.
Closest thing i've been able to do for this is my phone is connected via bluetooth to my cars head unit. My tablet it mounted and connected to the head unit with 1/8" - 1/8" This way i can use my tablet for music and navigation and if i get a call my system will auto switch over for the call.

thanks for that info, but in my case I won't have a headunit to act as the "middleman". we really need the option of the tablet itself being able to exploit the Bluetooth handsfree profile

Tablet Talk 1.3.3.1 was released on 4/15 with a Call Sharing option over Bluetooth or Wifi. The feature is still in beta, but from my limited usage in the past 2 days, it seems like a viable solution to this problem. The app can be found in the market with a reasonable price tag of $2.99. For those of you looking for a carputer solution - you found it.
i actually use Tablet Talk and fully support that developer for his work, BUT the call answering feature requires either the phones speaker phone to be on or a bluetooth handsfree kit or bluetooth headset in order to work. It's not the same as the subject of this thread but it is the closest we have so far.
I've been in talks with him and he's still working on the BT stack in his spare time but makes no promises that it'll work or make it into his app.
Hi,
i 'm looking for the same possibilities, but from my iphone=>Tab=>Car-audio
TabletTalk doesn't work with iphone
What would be great is a full application on the Tab with Dialing, Contact List from the phone, the same as every caraudio BT sold nowadays...
I don't understand why it 's link to the Phone OS, because a Pioneer Car Audio BT doesn't care if it s a BB, Nokia, iphone, or an android phone : it's just A2DP/Handset server mode...
I succeeded in sharing my iphone music librairie and 3G to the tab, there 's only the phone part left :/
correction, i can't acces my iphone music lib from the tablett
i can only acces to a itune on a PC, but not directly to the iphone
I don't understand why there is no Car Audio App available, the developer would be rich !

This would be amazing, but unfortunately the tablet talk app will not work because it requires your car audio to be wired through your phone which would defeat the purpose. I hope the tablet talk developers can figure something out!
I'm currently in the market for a bluetooth headset and I'm just looking for a polling of what headsets y'all are using, how well they play with WP7, and how happy you are with it. Thanks!
i use a blueant q2 headset. The call clarity is great, easy to use, and stylish. It has the ability to be paired to mutiple headsets also. It reads back text messages very well. Streams music too.
I am using the Motorola S9 and both calls and music sound fine...
I have the Sony Ericsson MW600. I really like it because you can still use any ear buds you already have. It can still take calls and has FM radio too.

Jawbone Era... it's fantastic. What I like most is the tap to answer/hang up feature... shake to pair, etc. I also quite like how even when it's in my ear, I can hear everything around me - like I'm not wearing it, until I'm actually using it. Not everyone will like that, but when I'm driving I prefer to retain the use of my right ear. =)

hi there, how about somethin like the wep870 or the hm3100? Original samsung.. will they fit a Samsung Omnia7 / Focus?
Please help me!
I had an EVO 4G an now an EVO 3D have had Plantronics 510 and 520 then went to a Jawbone Icon and washed it in my pocket. I switched to the lue Ant Q2 cause it spoke the number in your ear had an app that read back your text even though Vlingo does this Vlingo didn't work well with my 1st Evo and I loved being able to say Answer and Ignore my favorite part of the Q2. But when I hit the button and said phone command and wanted to choose Vlingo as my default and it says not supported and it doesn't work right where I can just push a button and say dial so and so so.
Anyway part of my Q2 broke but it still worked and now I lost it so I have ordered the Jawbone Era off Amazon and expect it the end of this week. I hope I like it. Tap sounds cool but I'm going to miss just saying answer and ignore by speaking but I used that alot if I was getting my nails done and got a call. LOL! What phone do you use your ERA with and you? You seem like you really like it and I read reviews before deciding whether to reorder a Q2 or get the Era.

I'm going from a Q2 to the Era this week. I have an EVO 3D what phone do you have? The Q2 didn't do totally handsfree with my phone and once I said Phone command and chose like Vlingo to use it would say this command is not supported by your phone or something like that. I lost it and am trying the ERA. Which one do you like better? I'm gonna miss speaking and saying pair me and answer and Ignore but the speaker is worse on the EVO 3D than the 4G and i heard listening to music on the Era is great and that sound is better cause of the bigger speaker it has over the jawbone Icon which I also had before.

Hi everyone.
First post but long time reader.
I have an un-rooted Vivid I updated the other day through the phone dial trick. Everything went fine with the update except all my previous apps appeared except for the voice dialer. I had a shortcut set on one of the screens and the label showed up with the little android guy as the image. When I clicked on it the message said the app is no longer associated. Sure enough I went through all the apps and it was not there.
I tried to install the apk and checked off the box to allow installation of unknown apps. It appeared it was working then I got a message during the install that the it did not install. I tried a few times just to be sure.
I also noticed that I am not able to use my bluetooth ear piece to accept a call or voice dial.
Does anyone have the voice dial app working or was it left out of the update? I tried the google voice app and that doesn't work with bluetooth.
I have a message to HTC regarding this as well. If there is no solution here, I will post what they plan to do if anything.
Edit 4/2/12 see the posts on pages 3&4 for a Voice dialer that works pretty good so far in ICS. There may be others that work just as well but I'm tired of trying to find them. Until (doubtful) google or HTC fixes this issue I'll stick with I have now.
I don't have a solution, but I have the same problem.
My Blueant Q2 headset has a command to activate the phone's voice command. The phone said my phone doesn't support that feature.
That's unfortunate because I use it all the time.

Does everyone else have the voice dialer like we had in GB? If so can you post the apk?
Using bluetooth without it is very difficult to say the least. It's even more distracting than just picking up the phone and talking except that's not an option in many area I travel through.

Also an app in the market called Hands-free voice dial that might work
After reading your post I tried messing with the voice dialer to see if I could help. It turns out it's not even installed on my phone and its not on the market. Voice actions are supposedly alot better and I wonder if the dialer was done away with in favor of voice actions. One problem with this is on my headset it now does nothing but beep at me when I hit the call button where as it brought up the dialer before. Also I held down search and tried to voice dial through voice actions and it couldn't pick up my voice through the headset. Right after I was messing with it I got a call and the caller could here me fine through my headset. So I dunno what the deal is. Oversight maybe? I'm fine with voice actions replacing the dialer but not if my button on my headset does nothing and i can't use my headset to use it.
Sent from my HTC PH39100 using XDA
Okay, so it was a fluke, voice actions picks up my voice now. However, my call button still doesn't activate it. I have to unlock the phone and hold down search to activate it. I can make calls through it fine however so i think that is the solution. I believe the lack of support of a voice dialer button on a headset is most likely an oversight. Sucks but I hope this at lead helps you out for now.

Okat HTC got back to me and here is their response. It fixed part of the issue but still no voice dialer app. I can now answer an incoming call by pushing the button on the earpiece. So far only half a fix. I'll try to find a decent dialer on the market. The google one sucks.
I can certainly help you with Bluetooth functionality on your HTC Vivid. I essentially want to clear some Bluetooth data from your phone and then see if the issue continues. First let's navigate to home>menu>settings>Bluetooth. Tap on the settings icon to the right of your Bluetooth device's name and let's select unpair.
Now let's return to settings and tap on Apps, then All. Please tap on Bluetooth share and select clear data and confirm. If your Bluetooth headset has an option to clear its partnerships, please do that as well.
We need to restart the phone. To do this let's just hold down power and select restart. When the phone boots back up are you able to pair with and properly use your Bluetooth headset?
yeah I can answer calls, and if I hold it down, it'll redial the last caller in my call log. But yeah if i just hit the button, it makes a beep and does nothing. I actually primarily use my headset for music playback, its a motorola SD-9 stereo bluetooth headset, but it works for calls too. I had to re pair it after the ICS update.
Ours do the same thing. Thanks for confirming I'm not nuts. I hope they didn't rush the update through just to be first with the update to ICS.
I have an older Moto HS850. I'm searching for a decent visor set since I now wear hearing aids. It's a bit tough to hear with the BT earpiece as it is since I have to have an aid out. Until I can get a decent voice dialer app I'll hold off on blowing money for a half assed solution.
Hope HTC comes through and develops a dialer for ICS. At least you'd know it'll be functional. So far I've tried three apps off the market and none have worked for what I need.
I guess I can always switch my phone out with my daughter if I really need to. I told her not to update yet since I was willing to be the guinea pig. She never uses her voice dialer. I would feel like taking a step back but GB was not bad at all.
I agree, gingerbread was great, I was hesistant to update but figured might as well. Hopefully HTC issues a fix for this problem quickly.

I tried holding down the Search to activate Voice Actions. The Vivid seemed to use my Blueant Q2 mic. However, Voice Actions definitely doesn't work as well as the Voice Dialer for dialing contacts.
I'll be monitoring this thread for solutions.
I found a solution that isn't completely eligant buy works.
I downloaded Vlingo and setup the un-car option to auto listen for commands. Don't leave Vlingo in-car on fulltime else it will drain your battery.
However, when I signal phone commands from my header, it fires up Vlingo. Set it to default to in-car Vlingo. From the you can say "Hey Vlingo..." and speak your command. My Blueant Q2 headset still says "Feature not available" but it works.

Vlingo virtual assistant is the best.
Thanks fro the recommendation for vlingo. I haven't tried that one yet. Seems cummbersome to use. The voice dialer app was so easy to use. Everything else so far takes too many steps.
I'm checking out the new Motorola Roadster2. There is a Moto app that is made to use for it. So far all the reviews I read did not say anything about it working with ICS or not working. Most of the gripes were from Iphone users. I may hold off a little while until such reviews start coming in.
The Voice Dialer app we had in GB was an Android app built into GB. I had a version from 2.3.4 on my retired Sony phone that I bluetoothed over to my Vivid. It installed but would not work prpoperly. I tried disabling the voice thingy from ICS and it still didn't work. When I had the GB VD installed ICS was sluggish so I removed it.
Here is the latest response from HTC:
We apologize that you are unable to use the handsfree dialing over Bluetooth. Unfortunately, the Voice Dialer app was removed with the Ice Cream Sandwich update. There is no information available as to when or if this will be added again on the device as it was a change made by Google.
This might fix it,
I took the Bluetooth.apk from a Cyanogenmod and it got my wiimote to connect (see my post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1560647) it should lift any nasty restrictions that HTC's bluetooth version has put on anything.

I understand vivid x2. I had used Vlingo before but then switched to the native Voice Dialer for the simplicity.
My problem with most 3rd party voice dialers is the only recognize and expect first names. With over 600 contacts, that won't work for me. Vlingo and Voice Dialer did use first and last names.

Im having another bluetooth related issue. I primarily use my headset for listening to music. Since the ics update my music will go into random skipping sessions. It's not related to 4g or wifi as I mowed my lawn using a regular set of headphones and didn't have any issues. There is almost a pattern to the skipping actually. If kill pandora or Google Music and restart it'll fix the issue for a little bit but it'll start up again eventually. No issues before the update.

Bluetooth Hands-Free Dialing Broken
After reading this thread, I tested my bluetooth hands-free connection in my car. It's BROKEN. My Vivid will connect to the car's audio system via BT, but it will not recognize my voice requests to call a number. It was working last week before I did the ICS "upgrade."
I expected something to not work, but I didn't expect something as critical as a safety feature. I use the hands-free dialing for obvious safety reasons. I have a feeling that HTC is catching heck about this one. They are about to catch some more from me.
I hope this isn't a case of "you got your update now shutup". Hopefully they'll release an update for bluetooth and voice dialing

Hi
I was just wondering if this, or any other smartwatch, can be used in conjunction with bluetooth headphones? Or can only one bluetooth device be connected to phone at the same time?
This could prove to be a massive dealbreaker for me.
Cheers for any info
Good question as I have a set of Motorola Bluetooth headphones.
Ian B
I could swear that I read somewhere someone has a note 3 paired with a gear and using some Bluetooth headphones. I believe they claim they can user the controls on either the headphones and watch to make and receive calls. So, could use the watch to answer and would be using the Bluetooth headset for the mic and speaker.

I have been only able to connect my bt headset for music while the gear is set to phone audio. I really wish there was a way to disable that.

I mean it doesn't really make much sense to not have that. Would be ideal being able to see who is ringing via the watch but speaking and listening via the headset.
That IMO is what it's all about. Not many people are wanting to talk into their watch and listen via a loudspeaker

That is not possible except if you have a Note 3 or a Note 2 with the leaked 4.3 from Samsung
I have a Note 8 3g with I use as main phone-tablet during working days, 4.2.2, and acquired a gear. Everything (more or less....) was working except the handling of the bluetooth headset. It maybe related some software piece from Samusung included on the official 4.3.
I have seen the update on 4.3 plan and my device looks not included until maybe end of the year or early next January.... uff, sami, you are loosing a customer.
Finally, after test with 2 diferent gears, I have decided to acquire a sony smartwatch sw2 which works like a charm with the note 8 3g. You can imagine for me, using the tablet 8" as phone, that no possible without a bluetooth headset. The other option was to talk through the watch and it looks stupid and no possible to have confidentiality in the calls.....

Hi
I was just wondering if this, or any other smartwatch, can be used in conjunction with bluetooth headphones? Or can only one bluetooth device be connected to phone at the same time?
This could prove to be a massive dealbreaker for me.
Cheers for any info

I used my LG Tones+ headset to pair up while my watch was also paired. It does work, but I had to press a button on my headset to let it know to go to that device. By pressing the headset button while in the call, the watch picked up the phone call first, then I pressed a button on my Tones headset to get it over to that. By answering the the Tones headset, it goes straight there.

What phone and android version do you have?
Ok well its good to know it can work.. I will wait until my Note II gets updated and see if the agent smartwatch/gear 2 have to offer before I decide.
In no rush but I'll probably get a smartwatch at some point. I just don't want it to affect usage of my bluebuds x bluetooth earphones.
On my N3 I have both a Gear and my car stereo blue toothed at the same time. All works fine.

This. I forgot about this. I have Ford Sync and it works fine as well. I answer texts using S Voice on my watch and still make phone calls over Sync.
I am using the Gear in combination with a Note 3 and a Pair of Sony MDR-1RBT's and they work flawlessly. The Gear doesn't interfere with Bluetooth Audio on the phone.

Hi,
IF this is the case why spend a fortune on the gear and not make use of its potential? Why not purchase the new Sony 11? That would give you the notifications you require plus the ability to use a BT head set?
Just a thought.

I don't think its very feasible for the vast majority of people to use the watch as a loudspeaker/phone for privacy issues + annoying everyone else.
I wasn't planning on getting the gear anyway as I don't think it's a good buy. (Given its price). I plan to wait until the gear 2 or agent smartwatch arrive. It would also be nice to also be able to use it see change tracks, view album art/info for music too while listening to music through bluetooth earphones too.
In essence, I don't agree that being forced to speak to the watch on loudspeaker in front of everyone is using the watch to its potential. I find this more a massive drawback than a positive. Being able to use my earphones to listen is, IMO, the full potential.
Hopefully this will be the case with all these watches, as it is the most logical.
It works for me now. The gear and my BT works now since I got back on to MI9 firmware

Hey There - I have the Sony SW 2, but was thinking of selling it to get the Gear, my question is how do you pair both the smartwatch and bluetooth to work simultaneously (to have the ability to use the watch to screen calls, and the headset to answer calls)?
Thanks

I use the set of NOTE3 + MW600 + Gear - so far it works fine.
However - I have MW1 headset and .... it does not work with NOTE 3 - each time You start the phone call it is necessary to manually activate "headset" on the phone!

What year sync do you have? I have a 2009 Sync and mine disconnects Sync from phone audio whenever I try to make a call. Reconnecting works for 5 seconds then disconnects. Even after disconnecting the gear from bluetooth, sync is still doing this now.
I am wondering if i can use the Galaxy S as a standalone after pairing it with my N4. I would like to use a bluetooth headset paired with the watch so i don't have to use the speaker mode. IS that possible? Has anyone tried this?
On GV09 the BT headset works

On the chinese GV09s / (U8 ?) phone, you can successfully connect a BT headset directly
In BT dialer, you can select 'new device' and next put your BT headset in pairing.
The BT headset can be used for 'local music', (SIM) direct phone, radio etcetera. It works nice
