I have seen the Verizon commercials for the droid advertising the Skype Mobile app. Is it possible to use this on a Sprint Hero? My little brother is in the Army and is over seas and this is the only way I can reach him. I have it on my computer but would love it on my phone. If this is possible and someone has the .apk file I would appreciate it if you could upload it onto here for me.

PM me and I'll send you the apk.
will it even work on the hero?
just wondering?
You can use Fring also (there's a skype portion for that).
just went to the market and they took Skype off Fring.

bueller, bueller?
Don't bother using the Skype app.
I installed the Eris apk ons it detects you are not on Verizon and quits with an error message.
I'm using nimbuzz, it is pretty good. I liked fring more before Skype went away.

Wireless tether is basically stealing. Full props to verizon for finally blocking it. And gnesoid was taken down by he developer it is not being blocked by verizon.

Explain this to me. How is this stealing?
Is using Google Navigator stealing because VZW has VZ Navigator which they charge a monthly fee to use?
We pay $30+ for our data package, we shouldn't have to pay additional fees to use that same data.

Sigh. They [verizon] never blocked it, the developer pulled it on request of sega. Verizon might piss you off at times, but they don't care about a video game emulator to a 20+ year old system, lol. However...the former console company that hasn't really done much since they retired the said system might want to complain...
So why was Gensoid taken down? According to the developer, it was at the request of Sega. They must have contacted Google and gotten the emulator taken off the market. What exactly Sega claimed in order to take it down isn't know as Google usually isn't forthcoming with details, just general overviews, when asked. The next question is, why now?

It's also obvious if you search the market on your computer (not your phone). Wireless tether is still there if you use a browser, gensoid is not.

Stealing
Charging customer more money to tether to another device is stealing. Way I look at it, we already pay for 5gb of data (some unlimited). Wireless carriers should let us tether to any device we want to our data limit. I pay for my data plan and should be able to use any way I want to up to the carriers limit.
Barnacle Wifi Tether is still in there at least, i always liked that better anyways.
Just put your phone in airplane mode and turn wifi on and go to the market you will then be able to see all tether apps.

Hey guys someone offered me a samsung captivate for 50 bucks n it looked nice but its At&t and im a tmobile user ..................so even if unlocked the highest speed internet i can get without wifi is only 2g and edge right...........
P.s will that be enough for facebook/netflix?
thanks in advance
Edge is what u will get.
Facebook....yep, but probably really slow.
Netflix...i would say nope, because of the slow data transfer speed.
But in the end, it is whatever u r willing to tolerate.

As he said very slow. I used my captivate on Walmart family mobile which is powered by T-Mobile and it made me want to gouge my eyes out it was so slow... But they did throttle data speeds on that plan so you might have better luck.
Also if you decide to try it anyway and are a brave soul when it comes to tinkering there is a thread somewhere in here on a DIY unlock for the captivate. I can verify that it works as I've done it myself but I suggest backing up your efs folder first.
I have the thread bookmarked on my PC so I could link it for you later if you're interested.

What is this about?
The Nexus 4 launched without WiFi Calling support for T-Mobile USA customers. I'm starting this bounty to encourage people to port this feature to the Nexus 4. It has been done in the past, and there are even claims that the N4 was being tested with WiFi Calling support before launch.
For more read this: http://t-mobile-coverage.t-mobile.com/4g-wireless-broadband-service?uid=Coverage_3
Why should you care about this?
WiFi Calling will give all T-Mobile USA customers who use the Nexus 4 the ability to use their T-Mobile phone number to make/receive calls and text messages over an active WiFi network. As well, post-paid T-Mobile customers could avoid using their minutes, if they are on a limited or pooling plan, while using WiFi Calling. Customers need to ensure they have the "Free WiFi Calling" SOC attached to their line and a valid 911 address on file. The 911 address requirement also applies to pre-paid T-Mobile USA customers.
How can you help?
Simply reply to this thread showing your support to have this awesome feature ported to the Nexus 4. Optionally, you can let us know how much you personally would be willing to put up to see T-Mobile WiFi Calling come to the Nexus 4. Personally, I am staking $50 for this feature; however, you can stake any amount you wish, or absolutely none at all. You being here and reading this is good enough for me. But if it is at all possible, please at least reply to this thread. The more exposure it gets, the better our chances our of getting it accomplished!
Presently, the bounty is valued at $1400. The value of the bounty changes frequently as more people enlist their support towards the completion of this project. So, please consider helping out the entire community by showing your support in this thread. Even if it doesn't affect you at all, there is a vast amount of people looking forward to using this feature as soon as possible.
Thank you!
- Korey N.
I don't yet have one. I would be willing to pay for it (around $20) though if I get one. The thing making me doubt getting it is the OTG issues. Might get one anyway.
I'd toss in $10 (not the richest guy) because I get don't service in my house.
T-Mobile isn't too terrible here where I live, but not having WiFi Calling is a disappointment when you trace to places without coverage
Bounty
WiFi Calling would be great :-/

Guys, my suggestion is to use Vonage. Uses your number and doesn't use minutes from existing T-Mobile plan. Works over WiFi and 4G/3G
If you don't mind having another number, there's always Google Voice and VOIP.

Back when I had T-Mobile, developers got Wi-Fi Calling working on the Nexus One and I think I had it on my Nexus S but root access was required because the kernel had to be modified. Don't know if getting it enabled without root would be possible.

I made a call to my dad who doesn't have the Vonage app... it worked...
And I used it on an unactivated phone
Just checked the app info... yeah idk why it says they need the Vonage app, maybe they mean for picture messaging and texts?
Also Vonage has 3000 minutes a month, so maybe if you get more friends the 3000 minutes will be raised for free?
Probably just an issue with wording...

My only question about Vonage's is when they call you will it go thru wifi! The only reason I want WiFi calling is because I get no reception in my house
I put up $10 for this bounty.

In your case, Vonage wouldn't be a solution because you can't receive calls with it.
See, a normal fix to this would be to reject the call then call them back with Vonage, but if you don't get service you won't even get the call.

I'd be interested to see if we could get our hands on that app. I've got some friends from Taiwan and Mainland that I could reach out to... Maybe one of them can grab it for us. Anyway, hope I'm not posting **** information here; definitely not my intent. What we do know however, that there is a factory unlocker out there. Whether it can work with our region is an unknown but, it might be worth a look.
I don't have much faith in the Verizon varient getting root. Going to take some getting used to cuz I've come from rooted phones since I entered the smartphone world.

This is definitely good info. I might try and get on chat with Samsung to see if they'd have a download link...probably a long shot, but worth it.
I won't hold my breath, but I'm interested in hearing how this goes as well. The lack of root on the Note 4 after being out since last year is keeping me from swapping out my s5 for a s6 edge.
This would be great, but alas I am sure Verizon has made steps to ensure that it wont be that easy for us!
