Looking for very lite ROM 6.5 - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Hi,
i' am browsing this forum section for three days, trying many ROM's ...
but i can't find any realy lite ROM without external application like facebook, old opera, total commander, ...
I prefer install programs what i like, not what cooker made in.
I find some promising ROM, but many of these are too old or download doesnt work (like esperOS 6.5 28008)
Can you help me with choice? What you are prefer, personal experience, without ugly bugs ... prepared for my customization like SPB Mobile Shell
Now i have TPC_V11_CHUMP STYLE WWE but it make me sick and anger due many problems with. It isnt bad ROM, nice design, fine optimalization, but in my hands is very unstable ;-) And i don't like preinstallated application which are now old and many of these i never used :-/
Thanks much

There are many here, just need to search a little.
On that note, thread closed.

Can anyone cook me a rom? Be happy to buy a crate of beer for someone who can?

Ok......
I bought my X1 in Taiwan, with the intention of flashing to an english rom, because i obviously haven't a clue about chinese, and english langue ones are not available here.
I've been flashing custom roms for a while, both on the X1 and on my old Wallaby and Ef's but havent found anything that ever really suits my needs.
I like the windows 6.5 roms, but WVGAfix doesnt seem to work with any of the builds despite saying it does which kinda makes all 6.5 obsolete for me because of the amount of software that doesnt work with a WVGA screen.
Which leaves 6.1. I have tried loads different 6.1 builds, but find there are certain things that always stop me wanting to keep them.
So my question is can anyone build a rom that is almost a light rom, that just has a few essential elements built in. One that might last me a couple of months, or at least until Mobile 7 is released as opposed to reflashing every few days. I have looked into cooking, but simply dont have the time with work to really get good at it. It drives me nuts having to reinstall everything and sync contacts every time i flash a new rom.
If i was going to build my own ROM i would be looking for a lite and fast 6.1 build that has to me what i would consider some essential apps cooked in.
Manilla
USB popup
Advanced config
Radio
Audio Booster
Htorch
All the finger friendly features
Xperia R3A Camera to replace the HTC camera within manilla.
MSN Push mail (not messanger)
Specifically i would really like to avoid all the things that are updated regularly, such opera, youtube, facebook, google maps etc, and all the things which would seem to me to be a waste of space / speed, such as
MP3 trimmer, panel manager and additional panels.
Basically a stripped lite Rom, with manilla and its associated features.
I have tried flashing lite roms, and installing manilla, but its a real hastle, and never gets as good a results as some of the outstanding chefs here. I can't be alone in wanting a rom like this? so i guess my last question is....is anyone up for the task or am i about to get flamed for something i should be doing myself?

I don't do custom rom for others but my medium rom seems to fits most of your requirement. (How can you call it a "lite" rom if you need manila that has thousands of file?)

hee hee, I will recommend yrs and Itje's if he is asking for 6.5.
Oddly enough i have just tried Jacks 3.6 medium rom and its very fast.....i like it......keep testing for a few days and see how it goes, but looks real good so far!!
Jack - You're right in that i suppose with manilla in it isnt a light rom, but i would define anything that goes into a light rom as something that is necessary for the operation of the phone. As windows mobile 6.1 is BUTT ugly and finger unfriendly, i would classify manilla or equivalent as something that is pretty necessary!

I tend to think otherwise, you're right with wm6.1 being finger unfriendly. And there is lots of stuff (ie manila, spb mobile shell, eg) that can help you with that. And the choice is rather personal, something you would add later into a lite rom according to your needs.
(little remark, I'm not a manila fan so maybe a bit judged)

Is there still interest in lite ROMs?

I ask because I've been working on a superlite ROM for a few weeks, and while I'm all for the idea of having a ROM that is just a platform for doing things with the maximum of speed and the minimum of fuss, I don't know if you guys are. Judging by the ROMs being released and the ROMs that people rave about, it seems not. If it turns out that you guys are interested, I'll put more effort into developing and make it public as soon as I have something worthy of competing with the range here.
Let me know what you think.
And I should ask as well, my concept ROM is basically based around the premise that
1) Everything apart from basic phone functions and essentials should be optional, with the ROM being as close to a blank slate as is reasonable
2) Everything should be doable within as few button pushes as possible
3) The OS should barely even feature, so no elaborate and animations, just straight forward basic and fast functionality
That's the sort of stuff that, to me, would make a perfect ROM. What would you guys want in a lite ROM? How would you want something new to differ from the lite ROMs of old?
A lite rom always is good for speed and performance an maybe even battery life. Though you have to add t3d to it, since it's the only thing that keeps me away from digging to deep into the wimo user interface, wich is so frustrating at times.
Yeah i like the idea of a lite rom, but then it kind of makes you think what's the point in getting a phone such as the X1 if you only want it to only do things nokias could do 10 years ago! And then you have to think, what's bare minimum? just phone? but camera too? and internet? and the extra keyboards so people can use it easily? and the themes so it doesn't look crap? and then T3d so you can actually easily use it without a stylus?
Don't get me wrong i think it is an awesome idea, and would be helpful, i just think it would be incredibly hard to please everyone!
yes i like the idea too..because a lite rom is much faster than a normal and if you need something you can install it later. but in the "FULL" roms there are a lot of things that you wont use etc.
it would very nice if someone could make a lite rom from wm6.5 2303*(or higher) :$
and sorry for my english ... i am hungarian
I am very interested in a lite WM 6.5 rom which has no extra applications added and is just basic and simple 6.5. However i do agree with hyellow with the Touchflo 3d, i do like the TF3D interface, i would like a rom which is basic WM 6.5 with a simple TF3D 2 interface.
i feel like there's plenty of TF3D roms out now, incl. lite TF3D, so a rom without TF3D would be great! i agree with your point 2- as few button presses as possible, that's why i love spb pocket plus and ms3- very customisable
i'm using norti's lite rom now, and even though it hasn't been developed in a while, it's fast, stable and dependable, just how a lite rom should be. i've customised it perfectly to my needs, and although i flash interesting roms, i always go back to nortis lite
i've tried 6.5lite roms too, and all seem slower than 6.1 lites. 6.1 is my preference until 6.5 bugs/ speed improves
as for suggestions/ what i would like;
- is it possible to use 'extendir'? if it works, performance gains could be big?
- include graphics drivers of some sort
- enable UC
- optimise some programs (like opera with ramdisc)
- speed/ memory tweaks
the lite roms of old are very sound, so i don't think it need differ much, maybe just update it when new builds are released?
As you can probably tell i'm very keen for a new lite rom! So thanks for asking opinions, and good luck with it, I look forward to it!
I would thoroughly enjoy a lite rom, please share
which build are you currently using on your rom?
mobilevu also has a lite rom, although he hasn't updated in awhile (doesn't mean it isn't good!)

Something I've got a severely bad habit of doing is writing a line in a post, and then editing it out with the intnetion of putting it back somehwere where it fits in better, but then forgetting to completely, and then finding myself wondering why people are contradicting what I said. I really have to stop it
Anyway, what I meant to put in my post was that my plan for the ROM is to bundle with it an installer app that installs apps in the same way that you'd maybe install components of something like MS Office or of a codec pack, where you just select the bits you want with a series of tickboxes, and the hit OK and wait ten minutes while the installer puts in everything you want. So, in its default state, the ROM would come simply with enough to do just phone, sms, and phonebook, and everything else would be an optional extra, camera and internet and the like inclusive. There'd actually be some pretty nifty advantages to doing it that way, since besides the obvious speed advantage, it'd mean that you'd be able to more-or-less customise the ROM to use whatever components you like. ie, it might all look like this:
--- Camera app
[ ] Omit
[o] Rhodium R3A cam (fastest load times)
[ ] HTC cam (slower to load, tap autofocus)
[ ] Made-up 3rd party camera app (etc)
--- Internet Browser
[ ] None
[x] Iris
[x] Opera 9.7b with onscreen keyboard
[ ] Opera 9.7b without onscreen keyboard
[x] Internet Explorer
--- Media Players
[x] None
[ ] Windows Media Player
[ ] Nitro
And so on, if that makes any sense. The other big advantage to doing it that way would be that apps wouldn't have to be bundled with the ROM, which means far less frequent ROM updates needed. Just the installer bundle app might need an update maybe once every few weeks or so, and then all's cool.
But it's all pretty much theory, curiosities, and pages of my notepad right now with only some basic rough builds knocked together, so I want to hear more thoughts from yourself and everyone else.

Personally, I can't stand TF3D. I still don't understand why it's so popular, but then, I'm not going to argue with you guys, and I'll put the graft in and aim make it an option on the installer app for you.
I read people discusing TF3D. If you want to built a lite rom you don't wanna put TF3D in it. i have currently wm6.5. and did som ram usage tests with home screens.
if you use TF3D the ram usage at cold start is 50% (that is very high for me)
the standard wm6.5 home is arround 36% ram usage
and if you don't use any home plugin (the old way) the ram usage is around 34%
so i suggest if its gonna be a wm6.5 lite version stick with the wm6.5 home.
And use R3 software from kovsky itself not to much from rhodium. the only things i like from fhodium are the volume control and the top bar tap that shows info. the rest isn't needed. for browser take the standard opera that comes with x1 for the zoom with volume buttons it makes zooming much easiyer. and don't put any extra software let users install there own software.
things that could be removed:
1. messenger
2. Windows live
3. widgets
4. IE
Try to not remove to much base software that makes the phone unstable and some functionalitys don't work anymore.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=547502
as per the above thread it seems 6.1 is the way to go still. the screenshots i've seen of the new 6.5 builds look good with the 'ok' button at the bottom, but 6.5 seems a step back. the start menu is just horrible, and the home screen doesn't make much sense to me.
i just flashed jack's rom, it's ram usage is 26%, and 29% with mobile shell 3, which isn't bad
the installer app is an excellent idea, that would top UC
for me what i'd like in a rom is manila default (remove titanium)
with panels
thats it...
maybe latest opera 9.7b with all the links in manila fixed up ^^
Personally,
I like just basic fuctionality (usual stable base) and a choice of Touch Flo or Titanium, because at the end of the day, we can get a cab file for everything else cant we? Microsoft MyPhone for online backup/sms or PimBackup or Sprite?
Google maps, facebook, opera, clean ram, iPlayer, and even windows live, why bloat the rom with software that many people dont use?
I like windows media player, but apart from that, i like having to install only what i need to a rom. Also, specifically to the Xperia X1, why do some ROM's have finger keyboard? We have a keyboard! lol, and if the Rom is good enough, screen rotation is pretty instant.
Also, with less programs included, we can install more to the card, leaving more free space on the phone.
note sometimes if core files are removed... the .cab install file wont work
have noted some roms having issues with wlmessenger because it was removed completely...
i got 2 kind of phone.. 1 is for daily call n sms.. xperia is for multi tasking.. so, my xperia never install lite rom b4 wan..sorry..

I think that manila makes WM much more interesting and is a good interface to have on top of WM. I suppose when you come to releasing the rom you can release two versions, one with manila and one without manila.
@therealreddavid
no pressure(!), but how's progress on the rom going?

Oh and put in 'extendir' and the 3d drivers/tweaks
just STRIP EVERY THING that isnt neccesarry we can find our cabs if needed
I am big fan of lite builds! I rather have base OS on which needed apps can be added. For example I don't like TF3D that much, I am bigger fan of the Titanium interface (seems lighter too).
The ideal rom for me would consist of the base which WM has + some extra stuff like dev certs, .NET3.5, Java VM. And everything else is add-able by a CAB file.
I am eager to see the ROM you are working on!

Can someone advise a spb mobile shell compatible rom

Hi, I know this thread won't last long, but...
I really need someone to recommend a rom/s that I can use spb Mobile shell. I tried it with duttys 6.5 r12 rom, but it keeps crashing and dying.
Other people asking for which rom to use have been told that they need to ask what features they want and I want it to be stable and fast and to be compatible with mobile shell.
From reading other threads similar to mine, it seems noone wants to give any specific advise... so if you think this is the wrong place to ask please please tell me where to ask before you close the thread.
PS. all i want is for someone to say, 'try this one or this one', instead of 'you have to try them all and be the judge yourself'. thanks
I have used miris and onkologs roms and had no issues with spbms. My experience have been best with both of them otherwise too....
i have onkolog superlite 6.5 rom with spb mobile shell... fastest thing i ever seen
whats wrong with the standard 1.56 rom or 1.59 rom if you're gonna put sbp mobile shell on it? the standard ones work fine
@pw120 :
It's working, but he wants the faster one for SPB

Haha, loved it
I have tried heaps of roms, Miri and onkolog were fast, i tried numerous dutty ones but they die horrible deaths for some reason. I used the enrgy rom also.
The best one I tried was B!ch0ns rom from http://htc-touch-hd.forumactif.biz/
unfortunately it is a french ROM.
It was the best rom because there is a problem with all of the roms I have tried, where clicking the windows notification for missed calls or sms's does not load the call registry or sms program no matter how many times you click. (not in B!ch0n or onkolog)
The other problem is that when using the Phone application, the contacts soft button does not work.
Somehow B!ch0n found a workaround for that.
Has anyone used a rom that doesn't have the notification problem after installing mobile shell?
I have spb shell version 3.5. I've faced the notifications problem with energy roms. In dutty's R6 rom, when clicking the soft button for missed calls or contacts, it brings up the spb interface for both.
Bottom line, try this rom.
If you want to find a Lite or Superlite Rom, you can test those one :
- Barbone Rom from JonPatcher
- Lite and Superlite Rom from Onkolog
- The UltraLite from EpiphanyNL
@+
Thing is this has been asked before. Theres even a thread on creating a rom specifically for SPB. Unfortunately its a dutch rom, but Im sure you could change the language easily enough.
Bottom line is all roms will work with SPB, but your looking for a hight performance rom. Plenty of roms already listed above by others, best option would be too try a few of these, especially the lite ones and make your own conclusions. Alternatively there is also SPB threads in software forum. Surely one of these guys would be able to advise you as well.
Either way, I see no point for another thread on a topic already covered and asked before.

X1 (n97) - a lot of help needed

Hi,
I`m new to this forums , but I find it quite impressive.
First of all, Im here to ask for an advice, any help would be quite appreciated.
Im looking to buy new phone and my decision is either xperia x1 or nokia n97.
I believe everyone here will tell me that x1 is the way to go for its customisability , but I would like to say what are my needs and maybe it will be easier to help me with the decision.
Right now I have sony ericsson P910 , pretty old smartphone with symbian OS (7.0 ??) , and I managed to find some software for it which I use, and thats the exactly software I would like to continue to use on my new phone, and some new ones.
I intend to be online almost at all times , to administrate some sites, meaning need fast good browser, irc program, msn, remote desktop also, maybe some ftp client as well, and all of that to be active at all times.
Also some blacklisting call manager (maybe now every newer phone has it ?), pdf reader, office package, but thats not a priority.
I must say Im somewhat concerned about reported slowness of x1, but I see there are some custom roms that may be better, but reading these forums its seems to me they are like toys to try and delete if not good, and to tell u the truth I dont have so much time to do flashing of the phone always.
I also read that x1 has more ram memory and faster processor than n97, but then again maybe symbian doesn`t need so much resources ?
so priorities for me are fast system, reliable without much crashing and bugs, and to be able to run all of those software I need.
so here are the questions:
1. Symbian or winmob ( consider the software that I need , remote desktop for example, also speed and resources) ?
2. winmo 6.1 or winmo 6.5 for x1? which is faster in the cleanest form without additional software ?
3. Is it best to go for official sony firmware update R3 or to go for some custom lite ver. rom, if I want only the cleanest and basic rom ? Meaning the speed and reliability ? if some custom rom then which one ?
4. which custom full rom has been reported to be the fastest and with the least bugs ?
5. I must say I would like to use winmo6.5 only cause finger friendly capabilities. If I read correctly there is not and will never be winmo 6.5 officially from sony, so in that case I will have to use some custom rom , so I need suggestion on the fastest and least bugs 6.5 custom rom
And the last thing is the availability and the price:
I can get new x1 for ~320 Euros and that n97 used but in good condition for no less then 400-450 Euros .
Actually i hold that n97 is my hands and is very good and x1 I only saw at pictures.
And btw qwerty keyboard is very important for me so if anyone knows which one has better keyboard pls let me know.
Camera has not any importance to me.
Any advice will be greatly appreciated, Im sorry if some of my questions were already written before, but I wanted to present my situation and to get the best out of it, so once again sorry and your help is very much appreciated.
Cheers,
Srle
P.S. that n97 has version 10 and I read that ver 12 is the newest one, and Im not even sure how to upgrade to the latest one, is it also flashing the device or something other ?
w00t, as a self-proclaimed Symbian fanboy I can be very onjective about your question.
Xperia can do all those things ans can do them better and faster. N97 is the first (failed) attempt from Nokia to make a good touchscreen smartphone (and no xzzprezzzmuzzzik does not count). All users of the N97 are used as beta testers and to point out bugs and wrong design decisions. N97 is buggy, has worse hardware than the X1 and is uglier lol.
Now for the questions:
1 - WinMo is a pocket PC platform with PC-like experience in your pocket while Symbian is just a smartphone one.
2 - 6.1 is still performing better and is still more stable. Might change in the future.
3 - Official R3A for sure. More stable and reliable. Custom ROMs are goos for experimenting and for answering specific needs.
4 - My knowledge is not up to date, but I think "itje" makes pretty good ones.
5 - 6.1 will suit your better.
N97's keyboard is PATHETIC. X1's keyboard is second only to the Touch Pro 2's one.
Oh, by the way, you won't be able to install your programs on the N97. Symbian has no backwards compatibility, in other words, the newer versions of Symbian don't support the programs made for the older versions. You will have to buy/find those apps all over again.
Cheers .

It's good that you are prepared you will get a biased reply to WM.
I am sure you will found WM softwares to fulfill all you needs. Here are my lists of currently using program on WM for your requirement.
Opera 9.5, built in MSN Live & remote desktop, pocket VNC, pocket putty, resco explorer (FTP), Magicall (best call blocker), Foxit PDF reader, SoftMaker office.
6.1 would be a better choice for you since 6.5 consumes more resources for eye candies. And WM has a physical limit of 32 concurrent processes so lite rom (I have one and many other chefs make lite rom too) would be better if you need many programs active all the time
if you go the winmo route and considering the x1, i might suggest the x2 then. or the tp2

indeed. its already thinked over and its x1 or n97 used, which I can get at this point.
But I think I`m leaning towards x1 more atm. Probably gonna buy it at monday when the store will have it.
hopefully it wont be so slow as ppl talks.
I just read that x1 has a problem with the cracks, so Im not so thrilled about it...actually Im not even sure if buying x1 is a good idea :S....
I also recommend you the X1. For WM 6.1 you will find all the software you need and there's even a lot of freeware out there.
What concerns the quality of the hardware I think we have to admit there are some issues with the X1 (which phone has not it's shortcomings) but for me the only thing that I encountered personally is the dissolving of the black painting from the battery cover. And that also moderately. So far I have not seen the famous cracks in the case but maybe I'm just lucky.
All in all I consider the X1 still among the best WM phones on the market. The screen is great, the keyboard very convenient to type, the overall performance is good (WM is not known to be the fastest os out there). A few day's ago my X1 was stolen :-( and I did not hesitate to get a new one (finally I benefit from one of the many assurances I have to pay for every year).
I know it's like always everybody's personal opinion and there will never be a "best phone" on the market. But for me the X1 alsmost perfectly fits my needs. And is far as I see it should also meet yours.
10 months with no cracks here + those cracks are beneath the cover and don't affect the device in any way. People overexaggerate their importance...

On Symbian exist SymRDP, this remote desktop software works extremely well on N97.
X1's keyboard is really, really awesome for the first few months. I really enjoyed typing on the X1 until disaster struck. X1 keyboard is very prone to dust and before you anticipate it, your buttons are registering double keys and they become not responsive.
I'm using Fingerkeyboard full time now and I miss the good old days where I can type a 1000 words article using my X1 keyboard.
Hi guys,
I just yesterday purchased x1 black and it looks and behave pretty awesome.
Bu I already encountered a few problems. I immediately started installing some programs and SPB mobile shell 3.5 and on top of that TouchFlo 3d HD which I dont like, and wanted to delete it. BUt when I go to remove programs It wont delete it, I think because when phone is booting , its already in its memory so it can`t be done that way.
In short how to delete TF3D from my phone?
Or is there some kind of master reset that will erase all the apps I installed ?
Don't even use that ROM? Use another - TF3D shouldn't be in the stock ROM. AT ALL.
In short - install an Xperia ROM without TF3D
I didnt messed with the roms, and I dont intend to just right now. I just installed TF3D .cab and it added itself to today screen.
I really dont want to flash rom just because of this if there is any other solution.
What about hard reset?
Will it erase all my apps and put it back to factory settings?

Looking for a specific sort of ROM...

Searching appears to have failed me, but I'm looking for a up to date, optimized (recent drivers etc), Manila/Sense LACKING 6.1 ROM for the Xperia.
Could anyone provide some guidance with that? I can't really find any
EDIT: To clarify, thats a Windows Mobile 6.1 ROM without manila or sense UI
Maybe you should look at the forum? Searching specific terms won't give any good results back.. These roms basically plague the forum, i dont know how you could not find ANY

And that's just the first page
6.1, not 6.5 I'm aware of the huge amounts of 6.5 ROMs
Bad grammar is bad
Even if there's manila/sense, you dont have to enable them.. no different tbh

List of stock roms with link somewhere http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=475482
Hi,
I can maybe try to cook something like that for you... you want other apps included (youtube, facebook, etc.) or totally clean?
Do you want X1 panel manager installed? Any X1 panels?
Will post a link here if I get it cooked...

the stock roms aren't too bad, but i can only think of two 6.1 roms without manilla/ sense;
norti nx1i 1.04
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=478022
i've used this and can recommend it
bxsteez lite 1.05
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=475083
otherwise, as mentioned it could be worth trying some of the established 6.1 touchflo roms and just disable touchflo. 'pctech4u' and 'touch x' come to mind. check out the rom library, ther might be more
I am on an own-cooked ROM which I can upload for you, or anybody else.
WM6.1 build 21051, no manila, no panels, some little apps that are useful for me and some selected HTC staff like enlarge start menu, volume control, FM-radio etc
I am using it for the last 2 months and it's very fast and stable. Perfect for SPB MS users.
I cannot provide any support though. No much time. Normally you won't need any.
