Ok, haven't been too active here in the OG Droid section, but very active over in NookColor. What I found this morning is best described by the term used alot over there - "Sleep of Death" or SOD.
Went to bed last night, with a 90% battery. 6hrs later, woke up, checked the phone, flashing green LED, but it would not turn on even if I slid out the keyboard. I pulled the battery, turned it on.....nothing. Plugged into the charger, came on, showed 5% battery.
So, pulling from processes described in the Nook forums, I went to /proc and looked for a lastkmesg. Nothing. The only proof I have are these screenshots from battery monitor widget.
The first one is the history file with time stamps, second is the graph of said time.
Running CM7/Nightly 125
I would check spare parts to see if something is holding a wake lock or using a lot of CPU.

I think because I reset battery stats before posting this question, I can't get that answer. Time since boot its the same as since unplugged. I have never had this problem before, hopefully never again.

I charge overnight. When i wake up i take it off the charger then take out the battery. Then re insert the battery put it back on the charger THEN power back up... whenever i dont do this i loose about 20-30% on the 30 minute ride to work (heavey useage)... but whenever i do do this i dont loose more than 10% in the same time period with the same useage. Anyone else tried this? at first i thought it was a fluke but ive done it for a few days now and reverted back when i was late a few times and forgot to do it sure enough the results are the same every time!
i believe that has more to do with calibration issues, than actually using less energy for the same tasks.
It just shows you that you've used less.
Either that or that the reboot ends all running apps. See if using a task manager to end all apps gives the same effect.

Ive used about 4 different task managers... and had them set to auto end... and they barley helped anything...
I give this a test very interesting.
Sounds like overcharge/? which is probably bad for your batt.
If I let my phone charge for a while once it has already reached 100% it will last longer.
Eg: When I overcharge for 30mins at night, stop charging and go to bed, the next day it will still be 100%
but if I take it off the charger as soon as it hits 100% it will be 95% when I wake up the next day.
yup its known, difficult to explain verbatum (think its in the battery thread) but the phone has a way so that it doesn't keep charging at the same rate (some kind of precaution), but by doing so you don't get a full charge while on.
sh##ty explaination on my part but bottom line yes its a common thing.

setting any task manager to "auto" is going to DECREASE batt life.....search the forums, every respected dev will tell you the same thing..... I do use one but not auto.......
Try this and see what happens
charge your N1 ... when the light turns green leave it to charge for at least another 20 minutes. then quickly disconnect the cable, go to recovery and wipe battery.
then reboot.

Why you shouldn't use a Task Killer!
Hello all.
I bought a Nexus One in at the beginning of the year. It's not rooted and I've had no problems from it till this month. I can not say the timing is exactly this, but it seems the battery issues started just after the FRG83D upgrade. I am accustomed to using my phone for most of the day before it needs to be charged. 12 hours or more with moderate use. Since around the FRG83D update my battery is about dead in around 4 or 5 hours. I haven't changed any settings or gotten any new apps or anything for quite some time.
For example, Friday night I charged my phone to 100% and then unplugged it (to plug in my girlfriends phone) and went to bed (about midnight). At 5:15am my alarm went off, i glanced at my phone and found the batter was at 10%!! the phone had been sitting there doing nothing all night with the screen off. I checked the battery use screen and it showed cell standby and AKMD taking up all the battery (55% and 35% respectively). I should mention that I have full signal where I am and have never had an issue. I cut off the screen rotate in the settings just in case that was part of it (AKMD being the gsensor i believe).
At next full charge that day i noticed the same problem, after being at 100% my battery was down to 10% after about 5 hours, almost the entire time I didn't use the phone. This time "display" was the largest percent by far (followed by cell standby), but clicking it showed only 15 minutes of use time for the display as I had purposefully not messed with the phone much.
Last night I had to be out and a bout so I decided to test things again. Charged full and cut airplane mode on. about 4 hours later my phone was down to 20ish percent, the only use of the phone being me looking at the charge level a couple times through the night.
I installed "spare parts" app and it shows my battery as being in good health and such but who knows how reliable that is.
Anyone else having similar issues? Any suggested remediation measures? I'm considering flashing the phone and reinstalling apps and such but would rather avoid that having never done that before and not having a desire to deal with setting everything back the way I have it.
Don't know if it matters but I run LauncherPRO and I do use the friends widget but it's never seemed to really cause battery issues before. I also run the news/weather widget, but again, no previous problems.
Any help would be great
Thanks!
In the spare parts app check partial wake usage. See if any apps are not letting your phone sleep.
nothing stands out other than UID 10073 which is handcent. currently my phone is charging but I'll pop it off the charger soon and watch the battery drop time again. I should note that inbetween all the tests so far i've rebooted the device so hanging apps of any kind should be killed off...
What ROM are you using?
Are you using Extended Controls? There is an issue with that and FRG83D. Uninstall it until the dev sorts it out.
yeah i am using extended controls. i'll take it off and see what happens.
Me too
I Have exactly the same issue, also have extended controls. Uninstalled and waiting to see if that works.
Cheers for the suggestion.
That did the trick! Loss like extended controls was the problem. A shame as i really like that app. Will hope they update and fix soon. Thanks!

Extended controls updated!
Yup, uninstalling fixed it for me too. Haven't seen the update though. I remember seeing an update yesterday, but I had this issue with that update so that did not fix it for me. Hope they update it again soon

I think it was updated again today. Now v5.03, and it seems to work properly.
So nobody saw Extended Controls showing up in Spare Parts, System Panel or other such programs?
I've found my Nook Color three times awake when it shouldn't be... At least two of those times I had unplugged it from the charger and hadn't opened it up at all, just basically unplugged it and took it with me to work. The third time I'm not sure, but seems like it just happened in the middle of the day for no reason.
I've also found my wifes NC doing this, except hers I found the battery was dead.
Anyone else seeing this happen?

Yes, I had the same problem which caused mine to completely run down the battery this past weekend and as luck would have it I did not have my charger with me for the entire weekend.
But I had seen it on before when taking it out of my bag after traveling and knew that it was being caused by the fact that I had changed the wifi sleep in "spare parts" from Android default to Never.
Not sure if that is what is causing this issue for you, but you may want to take a look and see what your current wifi sleep setting are.
I changed it back and have not had that problem for that past couple of days.
I've had this happen a few times. My defense against this is to manually lock it before putting it down, or into a bag.

Good point, I need to look... I don't think i changed the wifi sleep policy, but could be. My other idea is that maybe Setting Profiles is hanging it, but... Dunno.

Yeah, this seems to be a workaround.. Open the cover (mine lives in its cover), unplug, unlock, then turn off the screen. Seems good then. Just seems like that initial screen on when power is unplugged makes it stay awake sometimes.
I've also noticed something, although unrelated to this I think... When plugged in the device is always awake, even with the screen off. The Uptime widget has a "Wake on" or "Wake Percent" widget as well, and it's awake the entire time it's plugged in. Ah well.
Well I finally realized what was causing my Nook to wake up in the middle of the night sometimes and not go back to sleep; Titanium Backup! I had scheduled it to back up Wed/Sun at 3am, and sure enough the last two times it woke up and subsequently died overnight was at that time.
There is a preference to change the behavior of sleep during operations called WakeLocks Mode, so I've tried the "CPU Awake" vs "Screen awake" option just to see what happens.
So hopefully that helps, and at least I know what the deal is now. If the options in Ti Backup won't fix the issue I'll ask the developer, he might be able to to do something.
EDIT: Yep, this did fix the problem. No waking up to dead Nook Colors in the house anymore now.
Hi guys. Last night, for the second time, something odd happened to my note. I was at 39% battery at about 1 o'clock in the night when I went to bed, and this morning, for the second time, the phone was dead. No battery whatsoever. The first time I didn't worry about it, but now I'm thinking about taking it to warranty.
I had Wi-fi off, 3G-off, no apps in the background(except basic services and avast) , I don't use sync, I have a custom battery saver (same settings as the default one, except I always keep GPS-on). I have XXLC1-ROM (stock - rooted). I have frozen some useless processes with Titanium Back-up(the mini-diary, AP-mobile, Social-hub, Readers hub). I also used the app Battery Calibration when the phone was at 100%, the one created by Nema. Should I be worried and take it to warranty ? It doesn't happen a lot because I usually let the phone charge overnight.
Added a screenshot of battery usage: http://www.picz.ro/show-image.php?id=7873c3532838d733974b56544cc222f5
Install betterbatterystatus app and monitor which app or hardware draining the battery particularly. So that you can monitor and control as wanted. You don't have to take to warranty. There are lot of threads regarding this topic, surf it, lot of ppl got relived from this same problem.

dude. uninstall avast first of all then do a restart and test it that way
My note went from 98% to 'dead' in 6 hours with Battery monitor showing 'Kernel' as the cause.
I had missed seeing an SMS arrive and the 'preview' of the message was on the screen. This seemed to be the cause.
I think it's something to do with the battery...when the battery is low, my phone gets these weird lines across the screen which are horizontal, they look like the lines you get on your computer monitor when someone calls you when your mobile phone is close to the monitor.
Today my battery was 43% and I got those woerd lines across my screen and then the phone rebooted, I restarted my phone and the battery was 1%, can anyone help? Btw...I am using stunner version 2.4.27, thanks.
wrong forum section,
anyway, do a clean install without restoring anything of a fresh download of your rom or newer version. Dont change anything just check if it reoccurs. If that doesnt fix it hardware issue?
edit: get new battery
Had this problem some time ago...it's time for a new battery

Thanks, I was thinking that too because I leave my battery on charge overnight...every night, I believe overcharging kills a battery and I have had my phone since December 2011 with the same battery.
Change the battery bro. And do not leave the phone overnight. Your battey may grow bulgy and that may also disturb the back cover of your phone.
