Costco exchange policy - Off-topic

Hi guys,
Can anyone help me find the 90 day Costco exchange policy? My HTC Inspire has bad a speaker and unfortunately it's been about 40 days since I got the phone. AT&T will replace it but I'd rather get it exchanged from Costco with an Infuse 4g. Can someone help me?

What do you want to know?
I worked for the company for 8th years. The 90 day return policy applies to cell phones, computers, digital cameras, and televisions. As long as you are a paying member, and are within the 90 return period, they should accept your return.
Costco doesn't do "exchanges". They will refund your item and you purchase the new one.
However all locations are different. I was declined a refund on a product once and I went to a different Costco.
Problem solved.
Good luck.

HTC US does not repair Kaiser/Tilt NOW!

My AT&T Tilt/Kaiser LCD screen was cracked, and I called HTC (1.888.617.1113) just now (Oct 30). HTC told me that they do not provide any service/RMA for this model for the time being. Asking when will the service be available? The answer is "Not Sure!" This is quite disappointing!
So, watch out your Kaiser/Tilt. Use it carefully.
I asked how much it costs me to replace the LCD once the service is avaiable. The estimated cost will be from $120 to $180.
Is what you have AT&T branded or HTC branded?
this is normal, and it's the same in most counties, if your at&t messes up, you take it to at&t for repair, it's like that for most carriers, if you have the HTC Tytn 2, you have to send it back to whom you got the phone from, or to the county that the phone was registered to, US will not repair anything, thats because it's not officially sold yet.
thats one disadvantage buying from online store, where most of the products are imports.

Mine is a AT&T Tilt. I bought it from AT&T last week. On the 2nd day, the screen cracked.
You'll need to go through AT&T for service (that's why you buy it from them). Perhaps they'll offer you a "refurbished" model in exchange...
Alternatively, if you purchased by a qualifying credit card, you might want to pursue a "purchase protection" route. This phone (like all PDA devices) is explicitly not covered by AT&T's insurance providers.
Don't shy away from a refurbished unit, they are so new, most likely you will get a new one. That's what happened with my 1st 8525 that failed in the first few weeks, I got a new one.

Take it back to ATT -had issues with my 1st Tilt, and they replaced it-no problems. + it's on a 30-day, no questions asked return. They didn't give me a hassle at all.

why do they offer insurance for $4.99 per month if they will not honor a phone replacement? I have the option to add insurance.
unless insurances has been purchased, i doubt at&t will even do anything, crack screen is not covered under any warranty.

AT&T explicitly told me in the store that there is NO insurance available for this phone, and I have a premier account, so unless you know something the rest of us don't, insurance is NOT available.
Yes, it's ridiculous that you can add the option to include the insurance, but if you try and make a claim, they'll tell you that all PDA's are excluded from the plan.
If you're already paying for insurance, call AT&T and demand a refund (they'll give it to you and confirm that PDA's aren't covered).
You might be able to add insurance but its up to the consumer to know what they are adding if they do it themselves. On the ATT Insurance page they explain the entire process and list a link for Ineligible Devices. Problem is most people click thru without learning what they are adding thinking they know.

First of all, I took my Tilt back to AT&T, and they refused to swap me with a new or refubrished phone. They won't exchange any phone with physical demage (in my case, a crack screen) once I left the door the day I purchased the phone. Also, AT&T won't sent back the phone to HTC for me. I have to do it by myself. I bought the phone in Daly City, California AT&T store, they have lots of lousy people working there especially the assistant store manager, so erogant and bad attitude. For that, I have formally complainted him to customer service already.
Luckily, I purchased the phone with American Express card, and I can get purchase protection from AE. That's why I called HTC, and they said they are not providing any service for Tilt/Kaiser now. I was suggested to call back in two weeks checking the availability of the service.
Because of your thread, mario, I bought the LCD screen from Nicholas. The shipment is on its way. I followed your instructions in the thread, and unscrewed 4 screws at the back of the moving part, I dared not to go further because I cannot remove the case. Any technique you can share with me? I won't try again until I physically receive the shipment from Nicholas.

If you are still within your 30 days call AT&T customer service and explain to them that the screen has malfunctioned they will send you a replacement overnight. Definitely not greater than 2 business days. The same happed to me when I bought my 8525. It wasn't the screen it was the keyboard, but I was never charged. I took it into to two different at&t stores and was told something the same as you. I'd had the device about 1 week at the two week mark I called 800-331-0500. The gentleman took my information over the phone my replacement arrived the next business day. If you are outside of the 30 days, ask them to transfer you to warranty department. They will send you a refurb unit. I know this because they first tried to connect me to the warranty department to be shipped a refurb unit until I pointed out that I was within my first 30 of my contract.
The stores make there their money from hardware and accessories. The company makes it's money by keeping you as a customer.
Hope this helps
Why not skip the bastards at the store? Call up CS and chances are, if you keep a pretty good attitude, they'll hook you up with a replacement.
Calling repeatedly sure beats driving down and asking of them in person, especially if you know they're jerks to begin with. Over the phone, get a jerk, hang up and call again.

They do some repair work. Not sure if they are able to get parts for the Tytn II, but it seems they are at least fmailiar with things of this nature.
Yea... NO PDA INSURANCE through ATT !!
...that's probably the ONLY thing I miss after switching from Verizon! Vzn does at least honor PDAs on their insurance plans. If ATT had offered it, I would have bought the Tilt instead.
My two options were 1) the local (Chicago) store I bought my TyTN II from offered an extended mechanical warranty at the time of purchase for about $150/yr. They will replace it if anything goes wrong...but there are LOTS of exceptions and clauses in the warranty! 2) I could specifically add the TyTN II to my home owners insurance policy.
For me, this was the best option since it covers mechanical, theft, drops, kicks, splashes (etc) and it won't cost me anything but a small deductible unless/until I ever need to make a claim.

I too cracked the screen on my TyTN II. I do not have the Tilt version, but I am using it in the USA with AT&T service. I called HTC USA over a week ago and they told me they do service the TyTN II. They gave me an RMA and I shipped it to them last week. They should have received it Monday. I'll keep you posted if they are able to repair it. I also contacted PPC Techs who have the screen on order and are expecting to receive it by Nov 9th. I have used PPC Techs before. They charge a similar price to HTC, $169. They did a great job repairing my former Pocket Loox 720 screen. They had a great turnaround time. I overnighted it to them Monday and I had it back Wednesday.

Thanks for your advise.
I did call HTC a week ago, and, by then, they do repair Tilt/Kaiser/TyTN II. In fact, I was asked if I want to send my Tilt back to them. If yes, they can send me a RMA number. Due to the fact that I want to compare the repairing cost with local repair shop that I did not get the RMA number. I searched around the repair shops, and NONE of them is able to fix the Tilt for me (may be it is too new model.)
HOWEVER, I called yesterday, the message had been changed. Without getting any information from me, HTC told me that they are not able to provide any service on Tilt/Kaiser/TyTN II.
bersca, you are lucky that you get a RMA number. I do suggest you to keep tracking the status with HTC. I am afraid it may take very long for you to get back you phone. Good Luck!

Should I purchase from AT&T or LetsTalk?

AT&T will charge me $200 for a Tilt. I can sign up for AT&T service and get it for FREE at LetsTalk.com. Is there any reason NOT to purchase at LetsTalk. Do I get the same warranty, 30 day trial, AT&T tech support, swap out if phone goes bad??
If you are buying AT&T service then Yes you will get tech support regardless of where you purchased it from. Did you read online reviews on LetsTalk. I would type in Letstalk reviews and google and read their reputation.
I'm not sure if you'll get the 30 days. Did you read the fine print?
I have purchased phones from let's talk before and was satisfied. There was an argument over whether or not we made a one or two year contract but that was settled. But for the ridiculous price reduction you can get on that site, I would say it is prob worth it. I am pretty sure there is no 30 day trial though...
As of right now, you can also choose to not add a data plan, which is definitely a plus in my opinion.
Hope this helps
Get it from Let's Talk. There is no point in spending more money for the same exact thing. I just bought my Tilt from letstalk about 3 weeks ago. I'm satisfied. The only thing to consider is they charged me taxes (website said to CA and TX residents only) based on it's actual value which came out to be about $37. If you'd like, I can send you a "Refer a Friend" email and it says we should both get $25 from your order.
Also, FYI for anyone else interested. My work is part of the ATT premier and I qualify for a discount. I've added my number and the website did says I was accepted (have to wait 2 billing cycles to verify). Some people were concerned if they bought from Letstalk.com they would not qualify for their works discount. So far for me it looks good.
I've bought phones from letstalk and never had a problem but I never tried to retrun anything.
I did try buying a Tilt from Newegg with AT&T service, AT&T didn't work at my house so I returned it, they refunded me the money for the handset but didn't cancel the account. I found this out when I got my second bill, after 30 days. AT&T was awsome allowing me to pay just what I used and not charging me an ETF but unless you know if it will work where you want it i would stick with the local AT&T store.
I saved a few dollars by buying from Newegg but it could have been a costly mistake.

[Q] Where to NOT buy white Note?

I can answer my own question... NOT FROM SIMPLYELECTRONICS.NET
Why?
Trying to deal with them has been harder than performing brain surgery in the dark with one hand tied behind my back.
Ordered a white Note on January 25th. They needed extra identity verification (aka the documents they need to defraud me a month from now). I order from B&H all the time with orders exceeding $2,000 without having to verify my identity.
Fine, I played their game, January 28th rolls around and it can't ship till next week because they are backed up. I tell them forget it, to cancel it, and I will get it from someone else who can do business professionally.
Between January 28-30. I have FOUR comfirmation email cancelling my order from TWO diff reps and from the
[email protected]
email. Now today, February 2, I receive an email that my order has shipped and here is your tracking number...
Scammers folks. Terrible customer service. Been sitting on the phone for ONE HOUR trying to talk to someone live....no one will pick up. No one is returning my emails. I just filed for fraud on my credit card, I will refuse the package when it arrives, telling you guys here, and also prepping my attorney for anything.
SimplyElectronics.net is not professional, not prompt, sketchy, involved in fraud throughout Europe, and by far the worst company I've ever dealt with.
I pretty much agree with you.
I ordered an HTC Flyer last August. It took about two weeks before they sent it out. The tracking code was emailed two days after shipping the parcel. And then DHL decided to f*ck up the delivery - returning the parcel to UK. After a month and a dozen emails I finally got my money back.
On November I noticed that they were selling the Flyer very cheap - around 330€ for the 3G model (here in Finland it's 700€) so I decided to order it again. A few days after the payment I was asked for identification which I sent immediately. Two days after this I was informed that ALL of the 3G Flyers were "damaged" during delivery and couldn't be sold. That's bull****. Another few weeks of waiting and I got my money back.
And then the Note. It took a week to send it, even though the web page says it will be shipped in 1-2 days. Eventually got my Note but it's an HK model and there was no pre-filled warranty card included. So no chance of a possible warranty service here then.
Simplyelectronics appears to have little to none physical stock - all they do is hunt cheap items, ship them to the UK and off to customers. If they advertise a price and run into problems and are unable to purchase the item for a cheap price, they come up with an excuse like the damaged boxes with the Flyer. Different camera forums have also reported similar behaviour.
I won't be purchasing anything from Simplyelectronics anymore.

Because at that time they were one of the very few offering the white Note, and since they ship from UK I was able to avoid VAT.
I got mine from Expansys uk. I did have to verify my address but I haven't ordered from them before. Next day delivery though and I was very pleased.

Also ordered mine from eXpansys. Great support, friendly and quick staff. Also, even though online system told me estimated availability was 2-5 business days, I received my package overnight ... and we are talking international shipping!
I am in no way affiliated with eXpansys, nor do I receive monetary compensation for posting my experiences ;-) Just wanted to do a shout-out for awesome service.

How are people returning their Nexus 7 in UK

So, I initially order an 8gb Nexus from Google on the 27 June, cancelled it on the 29th and ordered the 16 gb one from currys.
As I didn't get a confirmation of cancellation, emailed again on the 10th. And my currys one yesterday.
But still phone got delivered 2 days ago. Phoned Google, who gave me an RMA number and said I will get my return shipment money back, just send it back by tnt.
But tnt want £35 to return it, and I'm not confident I'll get my refund on return from Google.
What have the others done? How are you sending it back in the UK?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
I would try to return the Curry's one in all honesty.
Check them both for the screen raise fault first though.
Google said they would refund my shipping. But as yet still waiting

I had the same problem as they sent out the unit even though I cancelled. I just sold it on as it was the easiest way of getting my money back. Try gumtree as it won't cost anything to sell it. Or even tell friends as you may get a cheeky pint out of it as well
My currys one is perfect, but haven't opened up the other one.
To the guys who returned it, did you return it with TNT or by special delivery (royal mail)?
My mates who want a nexus want a 16 GB, so need to return this 8 GB one.

What was the time line for you getting your RMA. Your email from TNT and your replacement device ?
I've had my RMA. Had my replacement device. But no return shipping instructions!!! So am sat with 2 nexus 7 and looking at a £400 bill. And getting no luck with phoning or emailing google!!
They're obliged by law to refund the postage costs incurred. If they don't do so you can take them to small-claims court and you will win.
You could try postage supermarket - they use tnt and get cheaper prices

I don't believe you have to go through TNT in the UK as this is part of the RMA email I recieved from google:
3. You'll receive a return shipping label within 48 hours of your replacement device. Use this label with the shipping container used for returning your original device. Purchase return shipping from your preferred courier (Royal Mail for example) and specify the following return address:
Computer 2000
Harrier Parkway
Magna Parkway
Lutterworth
Leicester
Leicestershire
LE17 4XT
UK
4. Print your shipping label from your preferred courier and affix it to your return box. Take your package to any authorized shipping outlet near you.

If you are exercising your rights under distance selling regulations (#), you may have to pay the cost for returning if the seller has stated this in their terms and conditions. If not, you pay nothing.
Here was link to t and c in my June pre order email.
https://play.google.com/about/device-terms.html
It does state return at your cost unfortunately. I believe Google should refund cost as a goodwill gesture. It is hinted here, where it offers a 15 day opened box prepaid return policy as an 'extra' to you legal rights. This is where you would usually see "this does not affect your statutory rights"
http://support.google.com/googleplay/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=2661524&rd=1
The seller must refund delivery and unit price within 30 days of your notification of exercising DSR. You must return the item within a reasonable time period.
http://oft.gov.uk/business-advice/treating-customers-fairly/dshome/dsrexplained
Note applying under faulty goods is slightly different

I think we are duplicating threads as I am repeating myself. Can we pin or lock?
# I have said unopened box previously, as is usually case for general goods with clear packaging but I think it is reasonable to open the nexus box to inspect the goods, as you would do this in a retail shop. There is no hard rule on this, it is what is judged, by the average population what is considered reasonable. Proportionality is usually taken into account. I consider it reasonable to open the box to inspect a 200 pound item. You will still have a statutory duty to take reasonable care to look after the item. The seller cannot insist on using original packaging but it may be considered reasonable to do so.

Those T&Cs specifically say they apply to the US, but I can't find any UK-specific terms anywhere on their site, therefore the sale is bound by statutory defaults. BTW, the section about returning 'at your own cost' covers returns for refund, not warranty returns for defect repair/exchange, which is the section below it and doesn't mention anything about having to cover return postage.
Yeah I know - I described separate scenarios:
Statutory rights under DSR [under SOGA] (ie I have inspected the goods and changed my mind about the contract). You do not pay the cost of returning if you are sending item back unless the terms and conditions state so. It does say you pay in the "Devices on Google Play Terms of Sale (United States)", but the "Refunds, returns & replacements" Dedicated page [uk view] doesn't mention anything, so I reckon we don't have to pay.
Statutory rights under SOGA (defective goods etc). You do not pay the cost of returning item, whatever.
In this instance for us Nexus 7 buyers, you should not only return defective goods as a 'warranty' scenario, but pull the SOGA card, which is much more beneficial for consumers. Also our contract is with Google (or whatever retailer you shopped at) not with ASUS, so we shouldn't even have to contact ASUS.
Yeah, SOGA trumps DSR because by virtue of receiving goods, or inspecting goods and found a defect, then it does not conform to the contract.
Right to warranty is not a statutory right. Like the 15 day return policy, it is an 'extra' to your rights and Google should in their right mind keep a good public image by not making us suffer!
Yeah, I couldn't find a UK specific one, it makes sense for an international seller to have a generic one, there is a paragraph on governance:
"The courts in some countries will not apply California law to some types of terms and disputes. If you reside in one of those countries, then where California law is excluded from applying, your country’s laws will apply to these terms and any disputes related to them terms..."

Never buy from CHINAPADMALL.COM!!!

Hi guys,
On May 2013, I've ordered UMI X2 from chinapadmall for €237.8 (=
323.39 USD). Actually first I ordered it from Pandawill (great website, great service) but I canceled the order because one day later I saw on CHINAPADMALL.COM "UMI X2 Turbo version" (With MTK6589T instead of MTK6589) and ordered from there. Of course CHINAPADMALL.COM lied to let people like me buy from them. There was actually no Turbo version available at that time.
Two months later I received standard version of UMI X2 (not the Turbo version of course) with defects: screen had bright annoying dot on it and I couldn’t transfer data from phone to pc, and contacted CHINAPADMALL to inform them about defects and asked what to do next. They told me to send the device back for replacement. They wouldn’t return my money back. So I had no other choice and did what they said. (paid:
25+ EURO = (34 USD) to send it back)
Two months later, package was arrived to their local post office. I sent a lot of e-mails to CHINAPADMALL to inform them about arrived package and to ask them to go and pick it up, but they never did. Post office could also not deliver the package. After two unsuccessful deliveries, China Post decided to ship the package back to me. In november 2013, I recieved the package. Then I contacted CHINAPADMALL again to let them know that I was disapointed (like they gave a **** about my disappointment) about their customer service and that I have to send it to them for the second time if they are going to be more responsible. They said that I can send it for the second time if I would like to. So I paid again 25+ EURO's (34 USD) to send it.
Package arrived this month (2014) at their local post office.
When I saw that on tracking website, I sent e-mail to CHINAPADMALL to inform them and to tell them to be more responsible this time. They told me that they will pick it up as soon as they can.
Luckily, few days later they had the package.
In total I lost +- 390 USD (+- 290 EUR) and more than 7 months time, and didn't use the device once. Now for that money I could buy octa-core phone or one of the best branded powerfull smartphones from trusted Chinese stores.
I’m still asking CHINAPADMALL to refund my money or send me a new phone, but they are not responding to it. Only yesterday they said short:
“If we replace new device for you, then how to do with this old device. We can not re-sell it after repaired it.”
Normaly, if you buy a product from somewere, and product is broken or whatever, you bring it back to the shop where you bought it within one week or 14 days and get your money back or get replaced gadget. That is exactly what I did, I sent it within few days back to them. Which seller is going to say something like: ‘What the hell I’m supposed to with broken device’? NOT A SINGLE SHOP WILL SAY SOMETHING LIKE THAT. But CHINAPADMALL did.
You can read on their website below on the page ‘Guarantee policy’:
5) How about the refund policy?
Second, For the problems caused by Chinapadmall, We will issue a complete or partial refund for the items if the clients do not agree on replacement or repairing. The problems include quality problem, mal function or miss delivery.......Please be noticed that all Chinapadmall products have 7 days return period (from client receiving the package to the client returning us) before being non-eligible for complete or partial refund. Please contact our customer service or live Support as soon as you find any problem after you receiving the products to avoid any postpone of better solution.
That’s exactly what I did. But they don’t give a **** about customers. Refunding?? They will not even talk about refunding. They don't even want to replace the device even they claimed to do it before, in their e-mails.
So what they have written there is just bull****. They don't want to respond to my e-mails with good arguments. Because they know that they can’t answer.
I want my money back because I never used this phone, or I want to chose for the price I paid other smartphone from their website.
Today I got e-mail that, they sent broken UMI X2 to factory to fix it. Again, I don't want fixed old phone. I had never chance to use it because It was traveling the world for 6-7 months. Even if I had, device is defect from the box.
So dear friends, NEVER EVER BUY ANYTHING FROM LIARS AND CHEATERS, FROM CHINAPADMALL(.)COM !!!
If you receive defect product from them, you will never be able to replace it and you will never be able to get your money back. Be informed.
Sorry for my bad English, but I think you'll understand my message.
And I would be very thankful if somebody can help me to get my money back..
Wow, sorry man. Was a working device finally sent to you??
I also ordered my UMI X2 through chinapadmall. My "gorilla glass" is now broken, and my GPS and 3G are faulty, but I think that these issues are UMI X2-related issues...
Dear friends... Never ever buy a Chinese smartphone in the first place.
