So I went to VZW to check it out (D2G owner)

Hi all,
I finally got a chance to go to the store to check one of these out. I wanted to see what all the hype was about and if I could justify spending the money to upgrade my D2G (not elligible for upgrade yet).
First Impressions:
- Screen: I read all the hysteria about how bad a pixelated screen looks etc. Some people said that you could barely see the difference unless youre holding the right up to your eye holes.. They are wrong. You can easily see the difference holding it at normal viewing distance. If you like the screen on the D2G it will take some serious adjusting to. It simply 'seems' like outdated tech and looks cheap.
-4G: This is the first 4G device I have ever used. It is shockingly quick (had 2 bars in Central NJ). I download a few apps (dolphin browser) and went to a couple of web pages. I also ran the speed test 19.6mb down // 3.99 upload. I went to youtube and loaded an HD video and the video never stuttered once (video time never caught up to buffering). I was very impressed with 4G and that is mainly the reason I wanted to take a look at the Droid Bionic.
- Stress testing:? Not sure what to call this but I wanted to see if I could make the phone hang up. Im not even sure if these are applicable to the hardware, but I ran 2 apps. The first of which was Google Maps, it didnt seem to be any faster than on my D2G. Scrolling isnt any more impressive neither is zooming in, I felt like the rendering speed was the same.
- Moto BLUR/UI whatever its called these days: Its still sucky you will want to root and change it.
I also downloaded a PDF and scrolled around that. Same issue, rendering doesnt seem any faster.
Im not even sure if something like this can be critiqued because these things arent even smooth on a regular PC.
Its clearly a good phone if you can deal with the screen thing. Once roms and stuff are developed for it, it will be even better. I would probably pull the trigger if i was elligible for an upgrade.

I personally wouldn't recommend the Bionic. I'm currently using one, as it "fell into my hands". There are many more options coming VERY soon which will have greater specs than the Bionic and won't have the terrible display.
I can't believe how much denial the people are in when they say that the screen is fine. If you say the screen is fine you're lying to yourself and everyone else, but whatever makes you feel better about your $300+ purchase I guess.
I will say that the Bionic has a leg up on my Incredible as far as outdoor viewing goes.

Then I'm in denial and deny it! lol.. its not the best screen, but its not horrible! I think its quite ok.. the pixels don't bother me much, my battery life kicks butt compared to tbolt! Then again, im not one for watching movies on my phone I got a Sammy LED at home for that...

For those of us who:
-would rather watch a movie on something larger than a 4 inch screen.
-would rather fap to pr0n from a pc
-would rather play games on a pc, xbox 360 or ps3
-care about performance of the best 4g radio and so far the best processor/ram combo
OR have a connection for incredibly good deals on phones and don't really care...
Yeah, denial is the right term.

Like i've been saying - Rendering performance will not be hardly any different until Icecream comes out. Gingerbread is singlethreaded.. you're not going to see the OS take any advantage over dual core for a while.
The good news is that it's still just as fast as any other single core phone. If any app is coded to take advantage of dual core, it will shine in those but in average usage - you're not seeing any performance advantage here.

The pentile screen doesn't bother me. I can tell at times but still doesn't impact me. I would rather have better battery life than a non-pentile screen. I don't want the Thunderbolt battery issues.
After removing a bunch of bloatware, I kinda dig the new Blur. I was using CM7 with ADW Ex on top. It is running so butter smooth! I will probably go back to ADW Ex when a ROM comes out without Blur.
I got 30 days to try it out but I might exchange it for the HTC Vigor. Depends on what happens the next 30 days.

While it's true it's barely worth mentioning. "YET" or "UNTIL" are key vocabulary for this CPU.

Coming from a droidx here... the screen looks a-ok to me on the bionic.

I've been using htc phones since the ppc6600. Battery life has been terrible since then, and I don't see it getting any better, unless they do something magical. 6600:terrible battery life. 6700 terrible battery life. 6800: terrible battery life. Incredible : incredibly terrible battery life.
There seems to be a trend here. I do believe I am done with htc.
The battery life alone, to me, is worth the money.

No doubt that the screen is disappointing, but LTE is absolutely insane, and the phone is noticeably faster than the Sensation running a Sense ROM. Overall, I'm very pleased with my first Motorola device, and it was a steal at $179 from Amazon.

I think that people are being to anal about the screen. I use the phone in direct sunlight now and it looks incredible. The text looks super sharp and you dont have to put your hand on top of the screen to block sun light. this phone is amazing. and yes better phones will be out and when you get that awesome phone that will come out in a few months another better phone will be out after that. is a never ending cycle. I love the bionic and i dont regret buying it. When i want to watch porn I use my computer or my galaxy 10.1 tablet. If you really really need a porn fix the bionic could take care of it too.

It's Sense. Put CyanogenMod on any HTC device, and you get amazing battery life. Can't wait for it on the Bionic.

Sense didn't exist until after the 6800. I had cm7 on my DInc, it still sucked, battery wise anyway.

The hate for the screen is warranted, and not warranted. I don't know how to put that. I was adamantly against a PenTile screen and it was almost enough to put me off on this phone. I had seen it in store and focused on the screen, and it just annoyed me. Then I got some real time with it and it's seriously a bunch of nonsense. The screen is sharp, great colors, great in daylight. It's not AMOLED level there but it's a do-it-all screen.
The 4G is super fast, and the battery life is amazing. I came from a Droid X and it's an impressive phone. Suck it up on the screen and you'll forget about it in a day.

If I'm spending $200 to $300 on an smartphone it better have a damn good screen. No offense but the Bionic does not have a good screen. Yeah at times it can look good but anything with green for instance suddenly brings out the crap factor. If it doesn't bother you then enjoy it. As for me I'll wait until either the HTC or Samsung offerings are out both of which will have a better screen over the Bionic.

Thinking about going to go pick a vivid up right now, im currently using the captivate and i hate it more then life. If anyone already has complaints about it please list them i wanna know if this phone is another captivate. Thanks

Other than being slightly awkward as in a little bit heavy and the volume button nothing bad to say about it.

Its thick and will be even thicker with a case on it. It has terrible stutter pretty much everywhere especially in tapatalk app. My biggest gripe is that it records 1080p in 3gp format and at least my phone, records with a very choppy quality (not sure why).

The volume button is way too easy to press by accident. Seems to take up too much space on the side of the phone. As far as stuttering every where that nohcho is talking about I have never experienced a stutter once and None of my videos recorder where choppy.

I came from a Captivate.. I'll tell you, it's a step up. It's quick, and is actually proportioned rather well, and I have kind of smaller hands. The volume key is large and user friendly and no, it's not like you'll be hitting it all the time when you don't mean to. It is heavier than most other phones including the Captivate, but it's a weight you will easily adjust to. the construction is excellent, it feels like it's made out of rock.

You won't be sorry. I came from an SE X10, and it's a massive step forward. It's a great phone, other than it gets a little warm and the battery life is less than stellar.

I came from an atrix, to an atrix 2, to the vivid. If it hadn't come out that day I was going for the focus a. I wasn't going back to a Samsung device. Had a captivate, had an infuse, and had an international sgs2. Liked the captivate the most to be honest. Now I have the vivid and the only way I'm giving it back is if a better htc device comes very soon. I have an upgrade coming in march and another in July so I should be set with hi end toys for the year hopefully.

I came from a Hero & Incredible S. I have to say I love the Vivid. I know some people complain about stutter, but I've noticed this in only one place: my Gmail label list, and I have about 50 or 60 labels... Everywhere else, things are soooo smooth! It does get a bit warm, and the battery life isn't exceptional, but it doesn't seem too bad. I've pretty much been playing with it nonstop, so I'm sure battery life will improve when I stop using it 24/7!

Although a little different, I really like the design of this phone. Can't believe people complain about it after they actually bought the phone? I really like the screen on it, the qHD looks awsome, also the thin bezels on sides, top and bottom. Looking at it, the device is pretty much only screen. It getting a little warm but honestly not warmer than my old Atrix. My only complaint is: (edit for later, I didn't find one yet)

The only things I can complain about is lack of data speed (I'm looking at you ATT) and no unlocked bootloader. Very thing else is great for me.

I feel like the odd guy out.....I came from an iPhone 4! This is my first Android phone, and so far it is awesome. I haven't had any issues with it. The screen is so nice on it. It was closer to the res of the iPhone than the Skyrocket was.
I also live in a 4G LTE area......makes the web and youtube very fast.

sounds like you got a bad unit...
Mine is buttery smooth everywhere... I have seen no stutter or FCs on any apps since purchse.
Only mainstream issue I have is with the (expectantly) poor battery life.
Other more technical issues:
The underclocked CPU and the Locked Bootloader (yes, I know... the CPU at 1.5 would hurt battery more... but I LOVE power!!!)

Yeah I don't like it that it record 1080 video in 3gp mode. But clarity is there.

Video recording is better than my former iPhone 4. I think it is no different than SGS2.

I don't like how video records in 3GP. That to me is just absurd... don't see any logic behind it, maybe it's to conserve space.
Otherwise, I love it. Patiently awaiting bootloader unlock, root, and then some ROMs. But it has only been a few days, we have plenty of time.
I love the data speeds. Although I don't live in an LTE area (I am about 25 miles West of NYC), the mobile data is blazingly fast. I haven't bothered doing any "speed tests" or any of that bull**** - if it feels and is fast enough to satisfy its user, then it is fast.
The build quality is crazy. I've never held a phone - especially one you must remind yourself is made mostly of plastic - and thought it to be so sturdy. The weight at first is a downer, but you quickly get used to it. It actually adds a lot of solidity to the device. Compared to the Vivid.. Samsungs, particularly the Galaxy devices, are made of paper. Seriously. The screen is a beauty as well, and you can't beat the resolution.
Only thing I don't like is the ear piece. On my phone at least, it's staticy and just overall not the best, although it's not bad either. Battery life I am fine with - I can squeeze around 12 hours out of it with moderate-heavy use, and although that's less than my Captivate, I consider primarily the fact that this is an LTE phone to justify it.

been reading a lot of negative comments about the ear piece. mine is the same way, but its not so bad to pass up the phone in my opinion. I hardly talk on the phone since I am primarily a texter so it really doesnt bother me. Mine doesnt seem so staticy.. to me it makes the other person sound like the car talking through a tube or something. its weird but its clear.

Did we all really expect to get a quality tablet at a starting price of 199$???

Well, as soon as I purchased my Nexus 7 tab and received it I thought to my self for 199$ I just robbed Google for this high spec tech giant of a tablet, packing a 1280x800 HD display, Tegra 3 CPU, 12 core GPU, 1 GB of RAM, NFC, GPS and Jelly Bean! WOW! and the list goes on and on and I thought I just couldn't complain even if I tried to. The first thing I wanted to do was to test it out with some apps and ROMs and kernel's and then the second thing was to hop on XDA Nexus 7 general thread to see if I missed any cons after my tests with the device and boy was there a lot of unhappy people with a lot of issues. So, I checked my device for dead pixels, screen lift, blown speakers and screen flicker...I thank GOD that I didn't have any of the issues stated, but I asked myself after seeing all of these people returning, upset, and bashing Asus and Google for quality issues, I thought to myself, if this had happened to me would I be among the bashing group? After a deep breath and thinking after all this is a 199$ premium spec tablet and with specs like this given for a price like 199$ and issues I've seen hardly even looked like a issue, hell! I wouldn't mind buying another for the bathroom as a electronic newspaper when I'm taking a LMAO! So guys, at a price like this for Nexus high spec like this I would have still purchased it even if it didn't have a chassis!

You'd feel differently if your screen was lifted so badly that when you pressed on it, the screen cracked. This has actually happened to a few people. Being a good value isn't an excuse for poor quality control.

Normally I would agree with the expectation that a $199 tablet would feel like a toy, but that was until I owned a Kindle Fire. That thing is built like a tank for the same $199, and its build quality I think is something I've never seen a complaint about despite the low price. So after owning a Fire, I would say I did expect the same sort of solid build quality at $199 out of the Nexus 7. Packing in high end internal hardware is no excuse to cheap out and have exterior bits and pieces failing, screens not calibrated well, etc etc. IMO for the sake of the manufacturer's reputation, either do it right or don't do it at all.
Whoever built the Kindle Fire is who Google should contract for the next Nexus tablet...

Google made this with the intent on gaining market share. I'm sure they make little to no money on the tablet itself. It all come from the Play Store.
That being said, I would still expect Google and Asus to put out a quality product, regardless of price. Now, I thankfully haven't had any issues, but if I did, I would still be upset. $200 is still a good chunk of change.
I cannot imagine that these two companies are happy that they have released a product with so many defects. Thankfully it seems that that they are handling the issues quickly and being helpful. Too bad they don't get any credit for that.
All said, I am very happy with my purchase, and feel better knowing if an issue does arise, I will be taken care of.

Your first post was on the money, but I find it hard to believe you wouldn't care if your screen shattered due to poor build quality
I think most people would understandably be a little bit mad lol.
I've got minor screen lift on mine, and zero ****s given. It is an amazing device and the more I use it the more I love it.
It seems to have matured a bit over time too, had a rocky start with a bit of lag etc, maybe that was because I didn't know how to close backgrounded apps at first lol.

I too think people have out of kilter expectations, and they are being manipulated by the Apple shills into RMAing perfect good units, because they have been lead to believe that screen lift will get worse etc.
It's all part of the delaying plan whilst Apple prepare their 7in tablet.
I know of 7 Nexus7's with friends and family and all of them are perfect to our specifications. My mothers has a small amount of screen lift, but she will never notice it, and it has no effect on daily use. I'm also pretty sure that before the internet age, there wouldn't be this sheep mentality into RMAing units... Those people wouldn't have even noticed these things.

Apple shills, I love it! I'm totally prepared to believe this as a fervent Apple-hater. Is there an evidence? I so want there to be!

I picked up one last night(office depot) a C70 batch. Expected a quality product and got one. Very happy.

I guess it sounds strange around here, but yes. I do expect to buy a quality product. And I believe some people have gotten quality Nexus 7, so it's not like we are expecting the impossible.
Just waiting for ASUS to consistently reproduce that quality.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I bought one of these because it was the first Google tablet and it has pure, unadulterated Jelly Bean. With a Nexus device, you don't need to worry about app compatibility or updates. Your tablet is the only officially supported Android tablet.
Tell me what other, more luxuriant tablet has this much to offer in terms of software and compatibility. Then you can criticize me for being cheap.

Google CSRs have been telling customers that any screen lifting at all should be exchanged. We've been infiltrating the intern placement program in Cupertino for months, and when they corralled us into answering phones our preparations were complete.

I expected quality and I got it
I agree and disagree to certain extents.
The screen lifting is definitely inexcusable, although I'm still a believer of the idea that these forums makes the % of defective units sound a lot higher than it actually is.
However, there are a lot of other things that people are just being ridiculously OCD about:
1. Backlight bleed. Okay, I dont have it on this unit, but I've had it on my phones in the past, a bit on my 20" Dell IPS monitor and even some of my $1k+ TVs (thankfully not on my newest 50" plasma ;D). Considering the problem is really only obvious at a pure black screen and high brightness, I dont consider it a problem. Its more of a inherent disadvantage of using these kinds of displays.
2. Dead pixels. Same as above... My monitor has a dead pixel somewhere, although after years of using it I dont even remember where it is anymore. My 42" Toshiba LCD has two "stuck" pixels (one red one green) on the screen, bothered me for the first two weeks of owning it, but literally impossible to notice under normal use. Again, its an inherent disadvantage. Unless you have a good few dead pixels scattered all over the screen, just deal with it.
3. The flickering issue. I tried this myself; couldnt replicate it. Then I was told I need to have only 1 bar of WiFi signal, max brightness, light background, and be downloading a large file while keeping the screen on for at least a few minutes to begin noticing the issue... WHAT THE HELL? Are people serious about this one... its just stupid.
4. Multi-touch Axis crossing. I made a post on the thread and attached my own youtube video. My N7 doesnt have the issue unless I use four fingers in a square formation with all axis overlapping. Two fingers pose no problem.
Discovered that my G2 has the same issue, after years of using and not noticing a problem.
Not sure how real this issue is, but I guess if my device went wonky with just two fingers I'd be annoyed too.

Okay, I dont have it on this unit, but I've had it on my phones in the past, a bit on my 20" Dell IPS monitor and even some of my $1k+ TVs (thankfully not on my newest 50" plasma ;D). Considering the problem is really only obvious at a pure black screen and high brightness, I dont consider it a problem. Its more of a inherent disadvantage of using these kinds of displays.
2. Dead pixels. Same as above... My monitor has a dead pixel somewhere, although after years of using it I dont even remember where it is anymore. My 42" Toshiba LCD has two "stuck" pixels (one red one green) on the screen, bothered me for the first two weeks of owning it, but literally impossible to notice under normal use. Again, its an inherent disadvantage. Unless you have a good few dead pixels scattered all over the screen, just deal with it.
3. The flickering issue. I tried this myself; couldnt replicate it. Then I was told I need to have only 1 bar of WiFi signal, max brightness, light background, and be downloading a large file while keeping the screen on for at least a few minutes to begin noticing the issue... WHAT THE HELL? Are people serious about this one... its just stupid.
4. Multi-touch Axis crossing. I made a post on the thread and attached my own youtube video. My N7 doesnt have the issue unless I use four fingers in a square formation with all axis overlapping. Two fingers pose no problem.
Discovered that my G2 has the same issue, after years of using and not noticing a problem.
Not sure how real this issue is, but I guess if my device went wonky with just two fingers I'd be annoyed too.

While i do expect to get a quality product with anything I buy, I couldn't agree more in terms of the over the top OCD. When I first opened my N7 from its packaging my first thought I had was WOW! I honestly thought the silver bezel was metal simply because the build quality felt so good. We all know the under the hood specs are top notch and it came sporting Jelly Bean. Do some units have a few early launch manufacturing flaws? Sure but that's usually the case with most new devices. So for $199/$249 I think ASUS and Google hit the nail on the head. Im 100% happy with my purchase.

Well, I don't know about other countries but when the tablet gets to Sweden they are gonna lose very much cash if they don't fix these problems as the laws are very good for customers. For example, if having to return the same product twice/2 repairs without any difference you can claim your money back.
Expecting a perfect device or not it should be working as it is stated to do. I would not accept a device with the screen moving around when touching it for example, that is not how it is supposed to be.

What a silly question.
I expect to get quality on any device I purchase...especially a Nexus device.
That said, I have a tiny smidgen of screen lift, so minute that I had to really look for it to see it. I do not care.

I, too, had screen lift, and was able to repair it, myself. I also had a noticeable creak I was able to MacGuyver away with little effort.
I must say this is one hell of a device for two-hundred bucks, but if my homegrown fix hadn't worked on the screen lift, I would have surely RMA'd it after a couple of months (as others have done/are doing).
Had I had screen lift to the point where it cracked, I would have been quite (righteously) sore at Google/Asus, but would have definitely not taken things to the extremes I've seen on these forums.

Yes we did expect a quality product. And we got one.
Everyone has issues in their initial roll out, and Google seems to have corrected the issues in their next batch. So if you have a defective device, hold onto it for a little bit. Once the next batch reaches wide circulation, call Google and get a replacement. Problem solved.

[Q] Problems with HTC One and 2013 flagships

I have a difficult choice to make between choosing the three 2013 1080p flagship smartphones...
HTC One:
-subpar camera
-4.7" screen but with thick bezels so size of the phone is actually same as the 5"ers (The curved back makes it easy to
handle one handed and thumb can reach other side of screen very easily so I think a 5" would be nice)
-removed the 3rd softkey and put a HTC logo there??? (wtf)
Xperia Z/ZL:
-bad screen, bad screen viewing angles
-horrible battery life, but that comes from the bad screen thats too power hungry probably...
Galaxy S4:
-Pentile Screen, Nuff said
I really wish there was a 1080p 5" compact (ZL/S4) RGB stripe screen flagship with good battery life (8+ hours screen on, video/browsing)
If the xperia had 8 hours instead of 5.5 hours i'd probably get that despite bad viewing angle and contrast ratio of the TFT screen...

Judging from your negatives, I'd say the SGS4 is your best bet. Pentile won't matter at 448 PPI, you just won't be able to see the difference.

I remember my Galaxy S getting around 3 hours screen on and being amazed. People are never satisfied

Hm, I just can't seem to buy into the "naked eye cant see anything past x ppi"
Even if we cant see the pixels individually, it would still be sharper when u look at it wont it?

ANY 1080p phone will be very sharp, I'm not saying you won't notice a difference between them. I'm just saying the difference is going to be in the type of panel used.
Amoled = blacks, vibrant
IPS = brightness, neutral colors
TFT = washed out, poor viewing angles, light bleeding on edges of screen
If it was up to me, the Sony Z would have no business being compared to the One and the S4.

I agree and feel the same about 2013 devices. Just stick with the note2 and see what the note3 brings.

Samsung switched to RGB stripe with the S2, but they decided to go back to pentile cross hatch bs with the s3 and now s4...
They realized that overall it wont really hurt their image that much since majority of users don't even know the full specs
of their own phone...
Overall they cut a lot of cost in manufacturing and profits skyrocket...
Sigh, there needs to be more competition, which will be good for consumers.....whenever a company dominates a market, consumers lose out =(
Samsung could have made the S4 Aluminum body and RGB stripe, which will give their company the image of a premium smartphone maker, but they dont need to because their profits will be a lot higher if they keep doing what they do...

by adding a question in your title, this should be in the q&a section.
but anyways
if your looking for battery life, the s4 has a better standby time.
But both devices are great. You decide on which device you want.

Well there's a thread that actually proves that over time, htc one could give 7hrs of screen time so there...

Why not wait a bit for what Google and Motorola are cooking? Based on your post, I can (ALMOST) see into the future and see that you will be complaining about one thing or another no matter which of these three devices you'll get. No offense intended, okay?
Larry Page did say that Motorola would be launching a phone with an "unadultered" Android experience, and people would start to not need to charge their devices every day, worry about kids spilling liquid on phones, and drop their phones without getting worried. And rumors say that the next Motorola phones (or probably just the X Phone) would have a camera based on the technology that Canon (or was it Nikon?) uses.

I wonder how the new pentile layout looks, instead of the RGBG in the S3, now the subpixel arrangement in the S4 has the green subpixels on a diagonal axis to the red and blue subpixels....hmmm

motorola will release tiny 4.3 inch phones . Even though i saw the petition on gsmarena. I like the 4.7-5 inch sizes. 5.5 is fairly large, but that should be the limit on phones. Hopefully phones that are being released at the end of this year and next year will improve on software optimizations (also KLP) on making android super super smooth, and manufacturers working on their skins making it optimized. Even though sense is somewhat heavy, its good on battery life.
Being on stock android is boring imo.
This design on the htc one is phenomenal, hopefully next years htc will build upon this and hit every sweet spot.

Well the scary thing to me is... I don't feel the need to root at the moment... It's smooth, battery life is amazing, active notifications are AWWWWESOME. once bootloader is figured out I may change my tune but my phone is in a very comfortable state. I LOVE IT!

This phone changes the game. The spec sheet race is kind of silly when you think about it. I've never held a phone in my hands that feels as good as this one. I'm very happy with it

Love it! Switched from my S4GE and love the smaller size and feel in hand. Im only looking forward to root for tethering capabilities.

i went to the att store today and played with this phone and i can say im definately not impressed at all. i compared the screen side by side and the difference in the 2 screens is really noticable. Also it so reminds me of a iphone i dont know why but it just does. i know alot of people are gonna argue my opinion but as for a phone guru as myself i can pretty much say its not any kind of a flagship device. only thing that may be good about it more than my HTC One is battery life. I al really hoping the hanami is gonna be a great phone and be my next purchase

i think you meant to start a new post that said "i saw this phone for 5 minutes, i'll answer all my own questions!"

I think the more you use this phone the more you will appreciate the innovation and little things. I now love this phone.

I came from the N4, which totally sucked. I had to strain to hear people. The X has excellent call quality, earpiece and speaker volume.

People crying over the dual-core processor...Motorola decided to choose what mattered more, which is battery life over "raw computing power". without increasing the size or the weight of the phone by adding a bigger and bulkier battery. Our phones just need to be fast and smooth enough for our every day tasks such as watching videos, playing games, browsing etc. We're not using these things for high end computing or folding proteins etc. Just like a computer with a 12 core processor won't matter if you're still using HDD and not SSD. Or people who only care about the "horses" on a car and disregard the weight of the vehicle or its transmission etc. I don't think people understand the software possibilities of having hardware designed for "always-on" mode besides the touchless google now feature. I've tried installing a voice assistant like the one on Moto X from the play store and my battery died within a couple hours with the screen off. The X8 system is really redefining how conventional smartphones would work in the future once people realize the possibilities that can bring. Now whether or not you agree that your smartphone should always be on and listening/aware is a different debate.

The phone isn't underpowered. Its GLBenchmark results are better than the SGS4 and HTC One. The CPU is two Krait 300 cores (which is the same as what's in the Snapdragon 600). With two cores disabled on the Nexus 4, the device runs just fine. If I can get this device for a good price, it will be my next phone.

I'll be the first to admit I wrong (there I said it). When I first heard the specs and price point, I figured Moto was doomed and their marketing gurus priced them right out of a comeback. Again, I was wrong.
Friday I picked up a Galaxy Mega 6.3 from AT&T and I took it back on Saturday afternoon. Very laggy (not as much as the S4 though), it was huge (and I'm a big guy at 6'3" 330lbs), the only thing I can say was good was the typing experience because I had so much room on the screen. But the phone was just too big, probably a great device in the end but just not for me.
Saturday afternoon I picked up the Black AT&T Moto X and this phone is fantastic and I don't say that about a lot of phones at all (I think the last time I said it was in 2007 when the first iPhone came out (yes I've used and respect all of the OS's, each has their own pluses and minuses) and before that, when the Moto Razr came out.
The phone feels perfect (IMO) in the hand, like Moto took the time to actually do the research with actual customers and see what they liked and didn't like and made change until they got it right. The 4.7" screen, in the same space as the iPhone 5 claims to only be able to fit 4", is great. Battery life is phenomenal (I'm not a heavy user but I never charged it out of the box and the charge that came on it lasted until it hit 4% this morning (Monday) when I got to the office at 6:30am. Build quality is great and believe me I have a mild case of OCD so I checked it out, buttons are nice with a definite tactile click to them (unlike the HTC One's power button that's almost always sunken in), buttons don't rattle (like they do on the S4 and the i5), soft touch material is great, screen is bright and not quite as SAMOLED'y as the S4 (again IMO) but marginally less impressive than the Super LCD3 on the HTC One. Focusing on day-to-day use and user experience, I have to admit I think it was the right way to go for a change.
There's more but I'm sure those of you that have one know what I'm talking about and those that don't, go try one out (at least if you're on AT&T for the moment here in the US), if you don't like it, return it but you might find yourself pleasantly surprised. I've only had it for two days but as right now, barring anything major popping up before the end of the next 10 days, I think this one is a keeper. And if this one develops an issue, I don't think I'd be getting anything else, I'd have this one DOA'ed and get another, it is really that good.

That's really good to know. I had a N4 for a week and absolutely loved it. I had the ticking sound in the earpiece when on a call and buzzing whenever the screen was on. I couldn't justify the money for such obvious design flaws. It is comforting knowing the X is better in this regards.

What device were you originally coming from? I'm coming from the HTC Vivid (I'm torn between trading it in for cash and shooting it out of a cannon)

Recently I've had the SGS4, HTC One, iPhone 5 and the Optimus G Pro. User experience and build quality, the X wins and like I said in my post, I was not a believer of the X when I first heard about it but after trying it I'm am very pleasantly surprised. My suggestion again would be to try it and if after a week you aren't at least partially sold on it, take it back. There are definitely a lot of good choices out there right now, it's all about what works for you.
