[Q] Black Camera after flashing kernel on I9000t - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone
I have a galaxy s i9000t with gingerbread 2.3.3 downloaded via Kies but i wanna to do something to improve the speed so I flash it first with speedmod-kernel-k15h-t23-300hz.tar Kernel and everything was smooth and perfect until I check the camera and it was black, like it has a black sticker con the lenss ( but of course it doesn't). even if i wanna a record a video the camera is black. The front facing camera works normal. Then i recover de original kernel and the rear camera is back so a tried a different kernel... Dark_Core_2.6.tar and again everything smooth and perfect but the only thing doesn't work is the rear camera.
What can I do to fix it (besides going back to the original kernel). I just want to install some lagfix (convert to ext4)?.
sorry for my english...

This cannot happen. Not possible.

The stock camera firmware is what you're looking for, it has to be flashed via odin or CWM.
I have only one for JVH but you can probably find it here on the forum for JVP (you're on JVP, right?)

[Q] Flash XXJPY Darky to XXJVK Stock

Hi,
I currently have Darkyy's ROM on my Galaxy S but I'm not very happy with it (bluetooth doesnt work and so on...).
So I want to install a stock firmware... 2.3.3 to be exactly.
I just found the Link in the Thread "Stock Firmwares..." but the filename is "I9000XXJVK"... my current firmware is "I9000XXJPY" - so is this a problem?
Would be nice to get an answer soon!
Thanks!
Which Darky Rom are you at? You should realy try 9.5 its the best ROM Darky has ever made.
But back to your topic, you should flash the JVK with bootloaders I guess or you will have a creapy screen at the boot. Stock JVK isn't a final Gingerbread. Its still beta but very stable.
Sent from my GALAXY S 2.3.3 using XDA App
no problem. just remove the lagfix and follow the procedure step by step.
if you want to be extra safe, you could flash back to stock samsung rom, with repartition and pit file, and then go to JVK - gingerbread.
aslong as you follow the instructions to a Tee, you wil be fine.
I'm running 9.3 and it doesnt work for me right. Bluetooth doesnt work, my music player starts random and much more...
Oh and I thought that JVK is the official one by Samsung.. so should I try it or should I change to the MIUI Rom for example (looks also good and is 2.3.x)?
i am running MIUI rom now and i have to say. ITS FRIKKIN AWESOME.
its so customisable, so completely different from samsung roms. i would highly recommend it, i have been thru every rom going, but MIUI is definately one to stick to.
quick updates, very helpful devs, issues fixed asap. overall 10/10
Sounds good so far
So I'm going to try MIUI, thanks azzledazzle!

[Q] Any Kernel work on back camera

I have been using I9000 rom with speedmod kernel and 850 modem for i897 device for a long time.
I installed different kind of i9000's Captivate kernel. None of the i9000 kernel's Captivate work on Tango and Fring video chat. I always get black screen on Tango video chat and Fring always crash when video turn on.
I tested on i9000 rom with Cognition 4.3's kernel and I897UCKB1 modem. The video chat work, but this I897UCKB1 modem is horrible download and upload speed while using video chat. That's why I didn't like to use I897UCKB1 rom because the 3G speed limited by AT&T. If I use any i9000's modem with Cognition 4.3's kernel, the voice call will not work.
I think i9000 kernel for Captivate must disable or remove front face camera function in order to work on Tango or Fring video calling.
Anyone know how to fix this?
Captivates have no front facing camera.
That's why need to disable front face camera on the i9000 kernel's Captivate.
And Cognition 4.3's kernel able to use video calling, but not on any i9000 kernel's Captivate.
They gave a proximity sensor and a light censor on the front that is often mistaken for a camera. As for moderns and kernels, I would recommend reading the modem thread. It will put you on the right path.

I'm pretty sure the op knows there isn't a forward facing camera, what he is saying is that the video chat works on kb1 but not on i9000, like the i9000 kernel makes the app look for a forward facing camera and then it doesn't find it and crashes or shows a black screen due to no camera. He wants the kernel to have the app go to the rear camera like it should. Right?
I knew Captivate never have front face camera since I have this phone.
The only problem i9000 kernel still contain front face camera code.
The Cognition 4.3's kernel seen like wasn't or because it is base on Captivate rom.
Either modify or disable front face camera code inside i9000 kernel or use Cognition 4.3's kernel with hsupa enable modem.

That's what I want!
My apologies. I misunderstood.
Have you tried using the kb1 roms (cognition, fusion, torch ) with existz kb1 kernel? As far as modems, there are only 3 I think for kb1 roms (KB1,JJ4 AND JI6). If the modem doesn't match rom and kernel, weird things happen (no bluetooth, no call volume, static). I hope this helps a little, eden if it doesn't solve your problem.

All are Captivate modem (KB1, JJ4, and JI6) worked with KB1 rom except I don't have HSUPA speed which is I don't want to use AT&T modem.
i9000 rom + i9000 kernel for Captivate + i9000 modem: need to fix kernel only use back camera
i9000 rom + Captivate kernel + Captivate modem: everything work except no hsupa speed
im not sure if you will get what you want. it would require a lot of knowledge of the sources and mixing captivate and i9000 sources from a 2.2 kernel and a 2.2.1 kernel. not that it is nessessaily hard, it might be easy for an experienced dev. the devs dont really know till they try but im not sure they will mess around with it. most of the significant kernel work is being done on irc chat and in the i9000 forum, most of it is not i897 centric but latter ported to i897. it may tak a while to get something like this done and after the source for 2.3.3 is realeased im not sure that it will ever get done. problem is that noone requests it. i understand the need for hsupa in combination with video chat. without a 2 way connection hsupa is almost useless. many broadband isp's dont provide an equivilent to hsupa upload speeds. well right now atleast you need to choose between slow choppy video calls on hsdpa or no video calls at all on hspa making hspa fairly useless. what a conundrum
have you tried using a pure i9000 rom and not a captivate port? like strait out of the i9000 forum with a reorient kernel? because they may have something in the settings apk to swap the active camera for that.i dont know for sure though.
edit, forgot but you can triy the ursa minor kernel. it is the i9010 kernel but it is 2.2. there is also the i9088 2.2.1 kernels from kp2 and kp5 but it is hard to find and you might have to settle for a stock kernel in that case.

I just tested GT-i9010 Armani (skullcap-voodoo #11) kernel with i9000 modem. The video back camera work and hsupa high speed work as well, but the wifi is not working with this kernel. It is confirmed this kernel is wifi issue.

well try the andromeda rom or the ursa minor kernel from andromeda thread.
i really suggest trying andromeda if you are gonna use a 2.2 kernel. not much sense in 2.2.1 without the kernel. andromeda has some fantastic battery life for most users and alot more, i suggest changing the modem though jk4 doesn't work well for me or many other captivate users. calls suck. kp1 and kc1 are two that i can verify work well.
there may also be a kp5 dump around here somewhere with the kernel but you wont have voodoo anything. still you get a 2.2.1 kernel for the captivate with hsupa
edit: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=531565&d=1299080836
this should contain a kp5 kernel with voodoo injected in. it was the origonal kernel used in dragon. dont think it has voodoo sound just lagfix
edit edit: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=558036&d=1301688592 this is the ursa minor kernel for andromeda built from i9010
sources. as far as 2.2 kernels for captivate go this is the one to have! 2.2.1 may benchmark a bit better but this is a seriously fast kernel with hsupa support. use kc1 modem you will be happy.
Edit 3: I use glitterballs' kernel v.5. It is a pain in the arse but it is jpx/y 2.2.1 like the other i9000 kernels and is working for me on fring with dragon rom. I just downloaded fringe and did a test call. I can see the image from my rear camera in the lower corner. Glitterbslls really knows what he is doing. He needs to come back to the board. If you use this kernel disable all lagfix first and convert to ext4 after to include the /system partition. Also flash with neldars app. You will have problems flashing in recovery because of steam. You can also extract the zimage and .tar it for odin flashing.

I just installed Andromeda 3 rom. The video back camera, hsupa, dial call, and wifi are work great so far. Hopefully, this rom doesn't have any major problems.

we spent a long time on that rom. it started its inception in December and made its debut on XDA in January.....you will be hard pressed to find any REAL issues
if there is a rom to flash and use long term andromeda is it. i had andromeda 1.something for almost 2 months i didn't change the kernel or overclock it and i didn't even have the stock rom for that long. but switched because i was curious about the roms from the i9088. would go back but dragon keeps getting better and i want to see what dagr8 produces for the final release, he was a dev on andromeda. i think the whole andromeda team komin dev group does top notch work.

[Q] JVH/JVB Front camera issue / fix didnt work

Hey guys,
i got the issue with the front camera picture on my stock JVH/JVB with CF-Root 3.2 and BLN 3 kernel.
It shows split screen 4 times the front cam input.
I tried damians front camera fix but it didnt fixed it. :/
What could i do ? Is there another fix?
thx for ur help i am desperate :/
ok *solved*
its the BLN kernel - waiting for samsung to fix their open source kernel.
On stock jvh with cf-root front cam is working flawless
revert to original kernel?
hello
i have find this problem from CMW CF.Root XW NEE JVH v3.2 is not compatible with BackLightNotification v3.0 to cause front camera
then i must remove BackLightNotification v3.0, then front camera is working ....
Weird !!!
Try sgs2 camera app
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Ok so well i said i got it fixed but no really:
If you use the BLN kernel from the bln thread the front cam fixes out there dont work.
So i flashed fugumod bleeding kernel and got it fixed a little with the jvh camera fix .. now the front camera picture is not fourfold but rotated to the left. The aspect ratio is wrong.
PS: i tried sgs II camera app which causes fcs for me on jvo

[Q] Serious problems after flashing

Hi every one , iam new to flashing but I trained to flash like 10 times , I went from stock 2.1 to gingerbread 2.3.4 and then downgraded to 2.3.3 after having problems with F1 GS2 V6 , now I need a very solid rom because I can't see any difference between 2.1 an 2.3.3 or 4 they both lag now after flashing JV6 I found that my music plays at a veryyyyyyyyy bad quality if I raise the volume more than 8 the quality is horrible., the browser laggs , boot animation is veryyyy laggy and even the audio is out of sync from video , when I scroll in contacts list it doesn't seem smooth but laggy and slow , same for music player and any other list that has scrolling , I need u guys to tell me what's the reason for all this lag although iam on speedmod kernel , I tried darky's rom and I didn't like it same for crystko or w/e named , heow can I fix this lag and this weird sound problem? I also tried re flash but no fix , plz also tell me or recommend to me the best rom and custom rom and I will do as u guys tell me thxxx and iam very frustrated
Why don't you try a stock unrooted 2.3.4 JVQ for a while and see how that goes, before diving into custom roms?
You can d/l one from here samfirmware
i will look into that , but iam trying to get the best because i want to stabalize and start to customize my mobile , i need to re import my contacts and live normally ! :S
i also want to fix this sound problem iam afraid that the problem may be hardware but .... i don't think so
also JVQ has browser issues and needs to be fixed

[Q] ICS ROM with Samsung Framework ?

Hi,
My wife has Jetpack V9 (XXJVU) ROM on her Galaxy S (I9000) and the performance of the ROM is awful. Very slow most of the time.
In fact, I would like to try an ICS rom on the phone but she uses Samsung's native 3G video call feature which is not available in Android by default. So she needs a rom with Samsung framework.
It has been some time since I checked the ROMS for Galaxy S. Is there any development on this subject ?
I mean, do we have any ICS rom with 3G video call support ?=
If not, would anyone recommend me to use another "value pack" GingerBread rom ? like this one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1626068&highlight=value+pack&page=31
Thanks.
I would really appreciate if anyone could comment on this...
I think that any rom has it... Because Samsung framework for SGS it's not released by Samsung to be Open Source, so in a CM(7/9) or MIUI are very difficult to find it.
But you could try any latest Samsung modified rom (JW6).
I hope it helps you!
Thanks but what do you mean by Samsung modified rom ?
is it ICS ?
can you give me an example of JW6 rom ?
Samsung modified rom means custom stock rom. There's not Samsung ICS stock rom for our mobile, just a pack with ICS features.
JW6 example:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1608790
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1689513
You also could try with JW5:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1626068
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1656081
Remember that JW6 or JW5 or JW4 don't mean ICS but Gingerbread with ICS features.
There's a lot of custom roms based on Samsung stock. I don't know everyone, these are examples I found.
Don't even try to find any ics rom video call feature ,ics not support video calling try to use skype or fring or use gingerbread value pakcs they are also good (xxjw4)
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA
GB value pack for I9000 is real good. It has everything that's in a stock GB and some new features to spice it up.
But when i used it the WiFi took a long time to wake up from sleep, was really annoyed with that.
If you wanna use video chat i recommend going back to stock GB ROM and flash a nice kernel to speed things up, And try not to brick your phone.
Thank you AnMOS. That's more than enough.
That's the same reason I went back to JW6. I was loving slim ICS but the lack of native video calling compelled me to go back. Why would they not include that feature anyway? It has been existing for the past five years or so (I think).
