Am I the only one with the Kaiser not able to view the map images at the google maps website with the stock Pocket Internet Explorer?
Anyone know how I can get it working?

It works fine with Google maps mobile, but I am specifically interested in getting PIE to show google maps from the web corectly, so that when I click on my "WIMP" generated sms, I can see the location of the GPS mark. Right now, since the web version of google maps doesn't show the map image, I have copy the link to opera, which is able to show the maps in google maps.

anyone?...........
I am having the same problem. What version of opera are you using? I am using 8.65 and cant get opera to show me maps on google.
I couldn't quite find the answer I'm looking for, but I plan on importing a device from Roger and unlocking it for use on At&t in the US.
My concern is that I won't have access to the US market or Google Maps Navigation without hacking. Does anyone know if this is the case or should I have no issues?
How does Google Market or Google Maps Navigation determine where you are?
If you look under settings>privacy, you can see that there is an option for "Use My Location", which is used for google search results and other google services.
I'm guessing the other google services include the market.
as for google maps, the phone will use its GPS to locate you in the map, so no worries on that one.

I know about that thanks. I would like to know from someone who actually knows though, no disrespect, rather than guessing.
it should work after you install the maps app from the android market since the phone is in the us and if it doesnt work you can used the modified one which doesnt need root

So I'm told the Market identifies your location by your SIM card and carrier IP address.
Hi,
Am from India, can any one guide me where I can get offline maps for my Samsung Galaxy S mobile?
(It has google maps and navigation inbuild in it.. But I don't get bandwidth always while navigation.)
Thanks and regards,
Senthur Pandian
Try MapDroyd or NavDroyd from the market. Might work

If it's a freeware, it's more useful..
I use mapdroid, its free and you can select what parts of the world you d/l as map packs. Not hugely detailed maps but pretty damn good for a freebie!
Depends on where you live, how detailed the maps are. Especially for walking they tend to be better than commercial maps. But house numbers are often missing. In the Netherlands the map is excellent.
The maps are from the Openstreetmap project. If you notice something missing, get an account on openstreetmap dot org and add it. I use 'GPStracker Lite' to upload GPS traces to the openstreetmap site, which makes it easy to add missing pieces.
On the openstreetmap site it is also easy to verify what the map will look like before installing for your area.
Name: TA Maps
TechAutos Maps v2 is an updated version of one of the first jailbroken apps for WP7 and is now available on the Windows Phone 7 Marketplace.
TA Maps is a mapping solution that uses sources like Google Maps and OpenStreetMap and gives better coverage in many parts of the world than Bing Maps.
For more information, screenshots, etc., see http://www.techautos.com/apps/tamaps.
Marketplace link: TA Maps
Features
Scrollable/zoomable maps
GPS location tracking
Search, driving directions
Maps: Google street/satellite/terrain/bicycle/China, OpenStreetMap, OpenCycleMap
Layers: Google traffic, transit
Favorite locations
Driving mode (keeps map centered on GPS location)
GPS sensitivity settings
Smoothly restores your last map view and pushpins
The next update (v2.3) will focus on an improved points-of-interest database.
Known Issues
The app sometimes encounters a bug in the WP7 map control- currently working with MS support on a workaround, but in the meanwhile, to get rid of the error, tap the bottom menu, then “clear map.”
Google Maps does not provide search data for Israel, North Korea, Cyprus, Guyana, Kiribati, Maldives, Malta, Palau, Suriname, and Vanuata, so search is quite limited there. Will try to address this by adding other search data sources in a coming update.
Releases
v0.1 - first release, for unlocked phones - just Google Maps + GPS
v2.0.1 - added address search, new map types, new map sources, pushpins, favorite locations, driving mode; now on marketplace
v2.1 - fixed search bug for non-dot-decimal locales, fixed search box focus issue, improved map error handling, added driving mode indication
v2.2 - added driving directions, zoom buttons, new map types (terrain, bike, OSM, Google China, OpenCycleMap), Google map layers (traffic, transit), prevent screen lock option, pushpin popups, share pin info by email; added trial version; expanded pushpin options; fixed local search bug
The free version, meant for developer unlocked phones, provides Google street maps and GPS tracking. It is available to download from this post, or from here:

Interesting, haven't seen that issue arise before... try this link:
http://www.techautos.com/download/wp7maps/
If that doesn't work, just go to the TechAutos.com homepage- it's linked under downloads.
can it view my maps location save in my google account?

No, it doesn't integrate with Google accounts-- at the moment, it's basically Google map data + GPS tracking + bits to make it all work smoothly.
I hope that there will be aerial view in the future
Can't wait the moment Google sends a C&D. He's using the Bing maps control. Unless he figured out how to make the credentials code work to authenticate with Google using one of their API keys, he's breaking their ToS.
Just got a message when I tried to use TA again... "Microsoft has revoked this" and its uninstalled now.... uh oh..

Still working here in germany

Yes! App does its job here
I just found out the phone re-locked itself without the chevron tool. I was not aware of this, and thought my phone was hosed somehow. I just re-unlocked it now, everything is fine
Good job, amb9800! Tried and works fine. I'd like to suggest: could you please add offline map browsing + map caching mode to your roadmap. 16 Gb microSD is much cheaper than unlimited 3G dataplan
Hey mate, nice work !
Could you think about coding latitude for that too? As a plugin? Thats the only thing i miss on my windows phone is it possible to bring that one into? it would be lovely if you could add it to your To Do list
Update- worked on the app tonight, got basic address search running. Hopefully will get a chance in the next few days to implement the UI for it.
@gcmobile: Added aerial view to the roadmap.
@Deadwalk: I'll look into Latitude once the other features are done (it'd be easy to implement if we could go in for the straight API route on that, but unfortunately not).
@sensboston: Cached map data is most likely possible, though it might take up a lot of storage space (as it'd be saving an image for each map tile location/zoom level). Will look into how to best implement it.
Thanx for the arial update. I will update and try it then
Today i ve synced my phone via zune after long time. After done it my phone was re-locked and the message shown "Microsoft has revoked..." on all my installed dev apps. Pushed always the Back-Button and didnt deinstalled the dev-apps.
Unlocked my phone again, and all is same as before
Regards

Is there a way for me to load a pre-routed trip into my Captivate and let gps guide me along?
So you don't have to use data while you drive? I'm not a 100% sure with that to be honest...

you can try this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=977576
it has offline maps and stuff..I hope it will help u
Here is how I did it. Go to Google Maps. Just below "Google Maps" with the search box beside it is an option for "My Maps" click that. A link for an instructional video to create your own map will appear as well as a link for more info. You will need to sign in using your g-mail account info. After you create your map, here is a simple example that I made, http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?hl=e...d=200255372440075144752.00049f243285c0f42e7d2. Go to your phone and open the google maps ap. To the right of the "search maps" box is an icon that looks like 3 sheets of paper stacked up called layers. Press that and a list of options will appear including the maps that you have created.I plan to use this primarily to create motorcycle rides to roads I have never been on before but look interesting on the map.
So weird. Thats up the street from me. Small world.
Swyped from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
Me too...do we all live in the same place?
