I have cognition 4 on my phone, and whenever I improperly shut down my phone and restart it, most of my apps forceclose on start-up and cannot be used again. The only way I have found that I can fix this is by re-flashing cognition. Is there any way to stop this from happening? If it cannot be stopped how would I go about updating to 2.3 and installing Serendipity; it looks interesting.
Try clearing cache via recovery.

try wiping the dalvik cache as well as fix permissions in recovery
Try what they said. Next time please post in the right section. This should be in Q/A. I suggest a Mod to move the post. Also, if you need helping flashing, then your probably not ready to flash. There is a ton of valuable info on the forums. READ before doing anything. Happy flashing.
Thanks for all of the help, and I will post in Q/A next time.
When you turn off the phone wait until the screen goes black and the phone buzzes before removing the battery(usually 10-20 secs after screen goes dark). I used to have this same issue as well until I started doing this when I swap batteries.
This will prevent you from having to clear the caches, etc.

Bit of a conundrum here - About an hour and a half ago my phone was working ok, albeit a bit slow.
I tried opening GoSMS, and it kept FCing. Didn't think anything of it, as I had a few memory hungry apps open as well (Angry Birds/Firefox), but rather than mess around with a task manager to kill the offending apps, opted for a soft boot using the power switch.
Upon rebooting the phone completes the boot animation, then at the point it would normally present me with a lockscreen and SIM unlock prompt, the screen goes black. Every 10-15 secs or so the familiar buzz, buzz-buzz-buzz of an app FCing can be felt. The power button is effective only to hold for a soft reboot, and the 3 buttons at the bottom (2 soft, 1 physical) have no effect other than to permanently illuminate the soft keys.
I've tried rebooting with every combination of the SIM card/external SD card removed, with no change.
Any suggestions?
Just remove battery from the phone. Reinsert it after 15 min and boot your device.
I wish you Good Luck !

Yup, a factory reset finally worked. I just need to remember to keep a copy of the Titanium Backup apk on the SD card. Install, then restore the TB Pro apk, reset and leave TBP restoring all the apps!
Thanks for your help guys, if someone can mark this as solved, then brilliant )
Roll on CM7!
how to catch the error?
Hi all,
same problem here (when switching the phone on this mornig).
I've already experienced this once and solved via reset, as mentioned before.
I think maybe it's something related to an app (installed some new yesterday evening), and it vould be interesting to understand the reason of this behaviour, so I was wondering how I can get the error (or read a log) to get what's not working properly.
I will have time to investigate in the afternoon, so can you give me any suggestion on how I can look after this (I'm relatively new to android)?
thank you
As it sounds in the title. I am helping a friend out with his Tab. I have tried various ROMS, but the issue still remains and that is, the Tab loads from a restart, every app force closes. I mean every app. I can go into the drawer click on an app, and it force closes before it even opens. I am at a loss. I have an Android phone but this one has me stumped. Any thoughts?

Have you done a full factory wipe to try starting from scratch? Found the stock rom and flashed that? Let us know what steps you've taken and we can probably help you get your friend up and running again.
I have done a factory wipe. I booted into recovery, wipe data/factory reset as well as wipe the cache partition. It also seems to reset the settings every time the Tab is rebooted. Should it affect it if the Tablet is not connected to any service? He is just using it as a side gadget. He hooks it up to wifi occasionally, but that's about it.
I would download a good stock carrier rom and kernel for whatever version he has (vzw sprint...whatever) and set it back to as it shipped from carrier. Maybe a system file is shot.

I flashed to a stock VZW rom, and no dice. When it reboots, all of the apps force close either at startup or when they are pressed. This is ridiculous!
I used this ROM
When I flashed it back to stock, the Setup Wizard keeps force closing. So now I can't even get to the homescreen or even the activate screen to bypass activation.
Are you flashing through recovery or using odin? That would be my advice, get a stock tar and odin
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
try flashing a kernel with clockwork. then flash whatever rom. and do wipe data, wipe cache, and then go into advanced, and wipe the dalvik cache.
Any thoughts on which one?
I know there have been other threads relating to this. It will never do a full reset. It always recovers to a previous image.
Odin with a stock tar

I have done a flash using the stock rom. The issue that it is having, is that everytime I reboot the Tab, I ALWAYS have to start from scratch. The ROM changes when I flash, but all of the previous users info is still there. I go in to app management remove every 3rd party app I can find, any personal data (i.e. google accounts, messages etc.), but when I reboot the Tab, ALL of the info that I just deleted is back on device. After just a simple reboot. I tried just installing CWM but superuser keeps force closing so I can never boot into CWM recovery. Any of the kernels that I can find no longer have valid links, does any one have a kernel available. Very frustrating! I have used both Odin and Heimdall.
Hi to everybody, I am using Overcome 2.2 custom rom on my Galaxy.
I don't know if my problem is related to that rom, anyway every time I download a file, the notification of the download does not disappear. I can remove it but, 5 o 6 minutes later it reappears, also if i reboot the tab. The only way to remove it permanently is this irritating task: open "download" app and then remove all the downloaded files.
Any suggestion?
wrong thread but nevermind.
sounds like something is wrong in your cache.
go to recovery and wipe cache and dalvik. then reboot. hopefully it should be gone

I am very sorry Mod!
Anyway i will try clearing the cache...
Hello all
First of all, I'd like to say that I've spent a lot of time searching through XDA and other websites on the internet, and so far I didn't find a solution to my problem, and that's why I'm creating this new thread.
I have a Galaxy Ace S5830B and just flashed Mardon's version of CM10.1.6 ROM in it, following every single step on his guide, using CWM 5.0.2.6.
I made sure that before flashing the new ROM I wiped the whole thing, clearing cache, dalvik cache, formatting /system and doing the factory reset.
I did not manually flash any kernel.
Everything runs smoothly and ok, just like all compliments the ROM gets on his topic, except for when I have to shut the phone down.
Once it is shut down and I'm powering it back on it gets into a boot loop that won't go past the Samsung logo. It means that the Samsung logo goes on, fades off and then it loops back to it, and the Cyanogenmod blue circle loading animation never comes.
It only works when I get back into CWM and hit "reboot system now" . Then it reboots normally.
I'd just like it to act normally, booting normally straight from a powered off state without having to go through CWM everytime I need to switch the phone on. That's because it's my father's phone, and having him getting into CWM every now and then after a battery run off is too risky, you know what I mean.
Any help will be very very much appreciated.
Thank you
Riggs

Try doing a factory reset, it might solve it. Do post the result. Hope I Helped
Already did it, also wiping cache and dalvik cache. No solution.
But thank you anyways =)

I also noticed this problem on my Ace S5830 and I have no idea why. I thought I was the only one who is having this problem. If anyone knows why, please tell.

When you are using CM10.1 by Mardon, NEVER WIPE DATA/FACTORY RESET!! ...You should fix your problem flashing again the rom
The ROMs are already preconfigured and when you wipe data/factory reset, all those settings will be lost and the device won't be able to boot successfully again
Oh, nice to know that! I'll try it soon, then I'll post the results.

Ok, so just follow the correct steps to re-flash CM10.1
hello, i got HTC One M7 and when i turn him on and press power button phone cant stop restarting and cannot connect to wi-fi (it says turning wi-fi...) so if there is any solution, i would really appreciate it. PS MY CAMERA IS PURPLE TOO, if there is solution for that, tell me pls! peace
It depends on what ROM you are running. Try booting by power-down volume and going from there into recovery. Clear cache and delvic cache. Reboot. That or factory reset. If that fails you can flash a new fresh copy of OEM ROM onto the device. Could have become corrupted. However, if you got the device wet, even from sweat, then you could have fried something.
I'd try a fresh flash myself. Then load the latest version of CM onto it and enjoy the now updated M7 with something far better than the original.
