No Android Updates For Galaxy S Owner in Pakistan ? - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Why Samsung Don't Provide Android Updates Via Kies to Galaxy S Owner in Pakistan ?

i'm from india but we get updates.. but generally asian countries dont get updates as fast as the european ones, but hey u could always flash european ones via odin without any problems.. use the below link to download other stock firmwares..
www.samfirmware.com/WEBPROTECT-i9000.htm
Also in due time u will realise custom roms are much better than stock so i suggest u take a look at that too.. i have been using simply honey roms for months now, n i'm happy...
Dont forget to hit thanks!!

[Q] Which firmware?

Hi I am new here and so this is my first post.
I am using a Vodafone Samsung Galaxy I9000 and I am wanting to flash it to one of the 2.3.3 available on SamFirmware. I am not new to flashing firmwares and have done it on many other devices I have owned over the years, but none as important as my phone.
My reason for flashing is Vodafone are terrible with updates. I only got 2.2.1 in January.
My questions are...
Which firmware do I choose? (on samfirmware it says use samfit to check something, but I am not quite sure what it is I am supposed to check for? My cirrent firmware is I9000BUJS3)
I have read the instructions on how to do it, but do I need to do anything before hand?
Official Samsung 2.3.3 was released yesterday . You may care to wait for the official upgrade for your phone through Kies .
Current Samfirmware are for Nordic region NEE . Samfirmware i s not Samsung they just collect whats around .
If you want then use the last firmware posted on samfirmware .
Or wait a week or so and build your own rom in rom kitchen . I say wait until the devs have worked through all the fixes and themes etc .

What is the latest firmware that I can download from Kies?

Hi everyone
I just got myself an I9000(UK) and it is still running on Android 2.1.
The latest firmware Kies offer me is PDA:JS3 / PHONE:JS1 / CSC:JS2 (VOD), seems like much older than the Gingerbread. I know Samsung has now pulled back the Gingerbread update but I notice people are talking about JS5/JS8 in the forum, can I download these relatively update firmware from Kies?
I understand root is not that hard. Of cause I want a fast phone but honestly stability is quite important to me as well. With so many combinations between PDA and PHONE firmware, I just don’t want to use too much time to try them all.
So in short is there anyway I can download some relatively update firmware from Kies?
Thank you very much
Depends upon the phone provider and its Product code .
O2 UK phone will match its firmware and hardware ID and O2 product code on Kies server likewise Voda Orange etc .
If for instance your phone was bought from O2 then you get the latest firmware from O2 does not matter what sim you are using .
Yours is a Vodaphone product so its them that update .
PDA:JS3 / PHONE:JS1 / CSC:JS2 (VOD Looks like latest firmware 2.2.1 and is significantly faster than Eclair ..
Just update via Kies and wait until 2.3 is released .
You cannot have Gingerbread until it is released by Samsung and uploaded/modified by the relevant phone providers .

Thanks for your reply.
I notice people are talking about JS5/JS8 in the forum, what is the difference between newer JS5/JS8 and JS3? only miner debug or more functions added?

Difficult to see some visible difference, as always most of people said that the latest is faster (placebo effect ?). The JSx ROM are very good in fact, no real need to upgrade from JS3 to JS8 as far I know (I can be wrong !).
If you want to flash official ROM via Odin, you can use the EXCELLENT CheckFus from here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1032437

[Q] Unroot to update? Galaxy Note

Hi Friends,
I see that the ICS Update will arrive sometime between may/june. i have a rooted Galaxy note using this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1329360
i just wonder when the time comes do i have to unroot to update or can i just update.. im new at this android world so i would appreciate any help i can get, thanks
Dont worry, sure you will get update to ICS
But how you have to update this can mentioned only after release of ICS, And yes it take few hrs to know just after release of ICS, you need is to just stay tuned here.
Just remember i said above in term of keeping your root intact. If you dont want to keep root, just you can flash Stock ROM of your country anytime, N just update ICS over Kies whenever it release over Kies.
Hi,
I have similar question. Previously I had a KK5 rom before I gave my note to Samsung in warranty for screen replacement. They flashed XLA4 rom and CSC is also changed now to JPLA1. Now KIES says it cannot upgrade my ROM. My question is: is it still possible to receive OTA updates (including ICS when it is available). Please note that my phone is not rooted. Thanks in advance.
To get update with Kies/OTA
your device should have installed ROM from your region, as well CSC should also be same as your region
Check CSC with *#272*IMEI#
Remember, changing CSC will wipe off data.
Sorry to bother you again. using *#272*IMEI# shows JED (which is correct for Saudi Arabia). There are other options to choose from e.g. KSA (which I think is also for Saudi Arabia but I don't know). Do you think changing will solve the problem? And is there any other danger (other than wiping the data) with changing the CSC? Thanks again.
Nothing more thn data wipe happen after changing csc.
Your installed rom shud b same for your region as csc.
If your rom is older for region, kies will show msg, you have update. If your rom is latest for this region, kies will msg you have latest firmware.
In other condition kies won't recognise your rom n won't allow to update.

Sure, when updating to stock you will lose the root, so you dont need to worry about that...You can look around and there are ways to flashing to next version if you want to mantain the root, tools like mobile odin can help you with that..... but i do recommend you to take a look arround the forum, you like me probably end up using custom roms
Regards

[Q] Official android version

Dear concern, i am using galaxy s i9000, i buy it a 2months used cell, as it was using gingerbread 2.3.3, i doesn't know that if it was an official gingerbread or non official, i flashed it with custom rom's, such as XXJVO, XXJVA... and in those i faced some problems i cannot upgrade the firmware version by kies r itself by the phone, so i rooted with so called official version from this link (theandroidsoul)
and now when i connect my phone with kies it has the same problem "your firmware cannot be upgrade by kies"
Can you plz help me that what should i do to get the official version of the gingerbread. Thank u very much in advance.
Go to sammobile.com and make a login account (its free). From there click on firmware and then click on smartphone and then android and so on. Then find the firmware you want. There are also pdf guides that you can follow to tell you exactly what to do.
Yep, you'll need to manually flash stock before Kies will recognize your phone and it's firmware version properly and agree to upgrade it for you.
With stock on, you can still be rooted and do all fancy things there-in, but the OTA upgrades can and usually do break it.
There are also ROMs that are pre-modded/rooted versions of the official firmware that might interest you, and save you some time.
official version
Dear Talon26,
i did what you said and i did get pretty much of help from there, but i am facing a simple problem how should i get the official firmware of my country Pakistan. Really thanks to you for further telling.

[Q] (help) understanding csc and changing csc

goodday xda!
I bought my phone online and turns out my csc is aut which is from switzerland. Now updates for this csc is very delayed. Its been almost a month since its jb release and still no word. I have no problems with waiting for their official release. But since im from the philippines, i was wondering if i can change my csc to here so that i can get updates from my country (jb has been released here already).
Ive tried changing my csc with the imei method in the dialer but there arent any csc listed there only AUTwhich is the default. Will factory resetting my phone enable me to change csc? I am currently running 4.0.4
Im all for rooting it but since my warranty expires in a month or so, i wish to find some way to update without the need to root yet.
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for the information, it gets a bit overwhelming to study up on all these. With the method you suggested, does that mean I should root my phone? Sorry for the questions, really dont know where to start since all the information keeps piling up.
Thanks
