[Q] Optimus Black/White (P970) with T-Mobile/Wind? - LG Optimus Black

Does anybody with T-Mobile US or Wind Canada and tried it?
(T-Mobile only) Does it work with t-zones or web2go (no upsell error)?

This page says Wind works on AWS frequency of 1700/2100:
http://faqs.windmobile.ca/customer/...lready-have-a-phone---can-i-bring-it-to-wind-
And this one says which frequncies work on Optimus black:
http://www.gsmarena.com/lg_optimus_black_p970-3704.php-
I am trying to find out the same thing. And looks like it may actually support it. I am not sure though.

I am trying to get it going but the phone is always stuck on wind away.(roaming). Is there a way to add the 1700 frequency to the radio?

switching carries.

when i bought my nexus one i was with fido. and realizing that they are crap and wind mobile is much better. ive decided to switch to wind. i called them up and they said i need a cell phone compatible with "AWS Umts 1700 2100". right now im with fido and i looked it up on wiki and they use "850/1900" freq and wind uses "1700 band IV (AWS). in the nexus one site it dose say its compatible with winds network, but i know there are 2 versions of the phone and not sure which one i have. its the one that works with Fido obviously.
so can i switch carriers?
tmobile is 1700/2100 mhz
so i cant switch over to wind mobile? can i flash my raido or something to make it work.
I don't know what "wind mobile" is, or what frequencies they use, but if it does NOT match what your Nexus One has, 3G will NOT work, only Edge. This is a HARDWARE difference. You can not flash or "fix" it.
No. Art version of Nexus will work with Rogers, Telus, Bell, Virgin, Solo, etc. T-Mobile version works with Wind. You may be able to use the Art version with Wind possibly, but you will only get edge if it does work.
I meant At&t version. Sorry, auto correct lol

At&t + T-Mobile Merger Hurts Potential US G2x Buyers

Hi alls, I wish I had better news to bring. The good news is, as expected, the 2X runs stock Froyo.
Now the kicker: as you are all probably aware, At&t has gobbled up T-mobile. This means that when the transition is complete (expected a year to 18 months from now) At&t will drop T-Mobile's 3G bands to EDGE.
It may not affect some owners but for me, I usually keep a device until a big hardware refresh comes about- like a quad-core chip. I'm skipping the 2x for the Galaxy II or the Optimus 3D. I was on the verge of owning this...
Luckily the normal 2X do support UMTS 1900 (one of the 3G bands AT&T use), that's why I am consider buying it off contract from other place and use it on AT&T

Let me understand: do you mean the non-US version of the 2x, the off-contract US retail model, or both? Thanks!
It's been reported that the G2x will support T-Mo *and* AT&T bands:
http://www.anandtech.com/show/4231/lg-optimus-2x-coming-to-usa-as-tmobile-g2x-
UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA Support 1700 / 2100 (AWS) / 1900 / 850 MHz
So you can rest assured that T&A-Mobile will support the bands on your phone right through to the bitter end of HSPA over AWS, right?
Ha! I was spying Engaget & Giz all afternoon yesterday & the announcement was made @ Anand...! Thanks for the heads up!
at&t hasn't officially bought T-Mobile yet -_-
An acquisition of this magnitude might not even be legal, it has to be approved by the FCC and the DOJ
Just checked the specs on this new phone on the T-Mobile spec sheet that was posted on T-MO News ad and that device supports both T-Mobile and AT&T's 3G Networks. I had to recheck it over 10 times during the day in case it was a miss print and they are still posted.
Has anyone else found any news that is different???

Yes, this says different. (Dang it, I can't post links. Search on Engadget.com for "T-Mobile G2x lacks quadband HSPA+, shatters dreams")
That said, I'm still curious to find out if anybody else has tried the the 2X or the G2x on AT&T yet. I'm not smart enough to understand what the lack of 850 3G means. Is that an upload speed? So would I be able to download zippily on the 2100 Mhz band but my upload would take forever?
Seeking original poster or the multitudes smarter than me for answer.

Further adding:
I'm interested in potentially buying the Optimus 2X (900/1900/2100 UMTS) not the G2x (1700/2100 UMTS). Anybody able to explain why the 2X may not work with AT&T, or share experience with it working?
The 2x will give you 3G on only the 1900 band with At&t, and not on the 850 band. So your 3G coverage will be worse than phones designed for the carrier. It will not get 3G on T-mobile.
You may as well just wait for the "Thrill 4G".

what are the speed test for this phone on tmobile?
and so if it dosent get 3g will it be getting edge?
Just in case someone finds this thread again, the G2X DOES NOT support *any* AT&T 3G frequencies:
http://www.phonedog.com/2011/04/27/...-quad-band-hspa-plus-won-t-work-with-at-t-3g/
It was a screw-up by T-Mobile to say it did.

Lg 2x on t-zones/web2go

Hi, I know that the g2x is blocked by tmobile from using tzones or web2go. But does anyone know if the unlocked optimus 2x works with those cheaper data plans? And also, the optimus 2x works on tmobiles 3G band right? Thanks to anyone who helps
So I guess no one knows

If you mean the US Tmobile, the optimus 2x only gets edge (no AWS 1700 band).
If you mean European Tmobile, check the bands, since the optimus 2x has 900/1900/2100 and would likely be covered for 3g.

O2X P990h (850mhz UMTS)

Hi guys,
I've searched the O2X forum regarding 850mhz UMTS (HSPA) and found nothing so far. Does anyone here have the O2X P990h model which supports the 850mhz UMTS band? The only thing I can find is that the G2X supports 850 but has the model number P999.
I'm currently tossing up between the Atrix and O2X (I use the Australian NextG network btw). The locked bootloader on the Atrix sucks and coming from a S-Off'ed Desire I really want custom roms etc., but the O2X doesn't have 850mhz support which is a must for me, at least until now.
Since then I've stumbled onto these:
http://www.mobicity.com.au/lg-optimus-2x-nextg.html
They appear to be in a lot of other online shops as well, has anyone actually got one and can confirm normal O2X mods/roms work on the P990H?
Hi, i get 'h' on mine above the signal bars which i am guessing is hspa. (I'm in the UK on orange.) Or am I getting confused with something different?
Sorry if i am talking about something different.

This is on czech LG site for O2X:
2G network: GSM 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
3G network: UMTS 900/1900/2100, HSDPA 7,2Mbps / HSUPA 5,7 Mbps
so i guess 850Mhz for UMTS is really not supported, at least not on EU model (but i doubt the specs will be different elsewhere on P990)
Actually he's talking about one listed as "LG P990H Optimus 2x 850/1900 "
It's on negrielectronics web site as well as a few others... but it seems impossible to find out any information on it. I myself am also interested..

No, completely different. The standard Optimus model number is P990. There is a 2nd model called the P990H which has 850mhz UMTS support (apparently at least).
So nobody has ever bought or used one of these phones?
where do you see a 850 umts version ?
Fido's LG P990hn is an 3g 850/1900/2100 phone. I'm curious that is it able to flash a p990's third party rom or not.

Don't take this as a definitive answer, but yes, it should be.
As you can see from the included screenshot, the ROM itself (via Hidden menu) lets you select 850 bands for both GSM and WCDMA, even though the radio doesn't support WCDMA-850 on the regular P990, which the screenshot is from. (This is from the new official Gingerbread, but it was the same on Froyo.)
You may run into other problems of course, like the ROM not liking your baseband, which is the one thing you probably shouldn't replace with stuff from the P990.
As stated, I cannot say for sure, but I think you can try without damaging your phone. (Or get someone else to try it on theirs ;-)) Which is my way of saying you probably should get a second opinion. And a third.
Cant you just get a G2X? Theyre 850 i think. Or you could join the dark side and use optus

Just saw this thread and wanted to clarify for anyone else who might stumble upon it.
P990HN from Fido does support 850Mhz and also works with all the custom roms/kernels for P990
I'm brazilian.
In Brazil, UMTS is 850/2100mhz
(990h model)
here in mexico 850 its the 3g band, the 8xxx baseband + canadian ril makes the phone p990h, but the radio its not capable on p990 celphone, you can just load miui or cm7 and load the 8xxx baseband and the canadian ril then you can upgrade your phone
I have the LG Optumus 2x - P990.
This phone has a software lock on the UMTS 850Mhz Band.
Does anyone know how to root this phone and unlock it?
My phone will sometimes connect to 3G here in Canada, but then it reverts back to Edge Network. If I turn my phone Off/ON, it will usually connect to 3G then after a few mintues goes to Edge. Certian parts of the city I'm in will connect to 3G at all times, it's very strange.
I did not know (and still confused) about what I was doing when I flashed my Fido LG P990hN with T-mobile CyanogenMod7. I can operate on Rogers network, but its not stable. Im new to this so I don't know what questions to ask - I just keep reading forums and help files. Michael

ok guys, here what I found.
I started separate thread in Q&A section:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1521105
I'm in Ontario, Canada on Rogers. Got LG o2x from buddy who bought it in Europe. Then my mystery started. At home I was getting 3G and H, but at work (about 50km away) was getting only EDGE. But buddy with iPhone had 3G all the time. I got suspicios. Tried everything - flashing different ROMs, RILs, BBs... Same sh...it.
Then, my another buddy bought used LG 3D (Thrill) which was sold by Rogers (i.e. official Canadian edition) and asked me to root it. I did and tested - he had 4G (same as H, I guess) all the time. WTF!!!
So quest continues...
I found hidden menu in both phones. There I could force phone to use exact band I wanted. And mystery was solved...
So I forced:
GSM850 - my o2x got Edge; buddies: 3D Edge (the same)
GSM1900 (GSM PCS on phone) - my o2x: G; buddies: G
WCDMA1900 (UMTS_Band_II) - my o2x: H; buddies: 4G
and now...
WCDMA850 (UMTS_Band_V) - my o2x: NOTHING; buddies: 4G
So I made the conclusion that European o2x has WCDMA850 band disabled somehow. It explaines why I have H at home (big city where H is on WCDMA1900) and only Edge at work (small town and H is on WCDMA850).
Now I'm trying to find out if it's possible to unlock/enable WCDMA850 band on this phone. I read that Samsung has hidden menu where you can select bands you want to use.
Does somebody have and idea if there is something like that in LG?
Thanks!!!

There is, but it won't do you much good, as this is, to my knowledge, a hardware limitation. The P990 can not use the 850Mhz band, the P990h and P990hN can.
If you still want to try you'll find band selection in the hidden menu. Dial 1809#*990#, select Modem Setting/Band selection.

That's exactly what I did - went into hidden menu and selected each band one by one and then checked status in Engineering Mode of Modem Settings.
Now I have next idea: all this experiment I did while having "canadian" baseband 823. And i had WCDMA850 line in Band selection (but it didn't work).
Now I'm wondering if I still have WCDMA850 entry if I put "european" baseband 725. This will be my next step tonight. Because if I have WCDMA850 in 725 bb then I would assume that phone CAN handle it but it's disabled somehow.
What do you think?
I just thought that for manufacture like LG is easier to make just one universal phone and then limit available bands using software (or firmware)...
Thanks for ideas!!!
You'll find the (non-functioning) 850 band on European basebands as well.
I'm no electronics engineer, but I think there's more involved in supporting a specific frequency than just the baseband. (I think each frequency needs some kind of dedicated amplifier among other things.) The chip itself is capable of supporting 850 I think, but not the rest of the "supporting" electronics. I may be completely wrong though.
Basically the P990h is the revision which enables the 850 band. I think trying to get it to work on the regular P990 is futile, but you're of course free to try anything you want.
If I remember rightly, in the O2X review by Aandtech, they say that the 850 option is there in software but not there in hardware (on European version). So even though you can select it, it won't work. (At least that's according to the initial review)

[Q] Local carrier has one phone using LTE, am I able to utilize it with the One?

Hello everyone,
I have a question I am hoping can be answered.
I used to own an HTC Dinc with that device I was able to watch YouTube no problem, however I can't watch any videos at all with this new phone.
I am thinking it's just slow connectivity*this is prolly it* but what's so different with my old phone to this?
My local carrier sells this particular model so I bought it second hand, it's a great device don't get me wrong but this one thing is killing it for me.
Is there a way to bring it back to the carrier and have them set it up to use the data like on my Dinc or am I just stuck with crappy connection?
Now with that all said, my local carrier markets 4G LTE but it has only one device which is an LG AS840, I actually asked if I can implement this to my One. They said they can't, I am wondering why wouldn't it work? Is it because the frequencies don't correspond with each other? Or am I missing something entirely?
All I want to do is be able to watch videos when I am not using WiFi*no internet at home atm, I have WiFi at work though*.
Another thing to add as well is, my girlfriend has an S3 which is AT&T branded, well to say it frankly her phone has much better connection than my One. I am also wondering about SIM unlocking, if I SIM unlock will I be able to use a SIM card from her carrier? Currently the carrier she uses is DoCoMo Pacific which uses AT&T branded devices while mine uses Sprint.
If anyone can enlighten me on this subject or even shoot down all my hopes I would appreciate it!!

Who is your carrier, specifically? If your girlfriend is on DoCoMo Pacific, I’m guessing you live in Guam. The Sprint One can only use LTE on the 1900 MHz G-block (Band 25). Currently, I believe that Sprint is the only carrier in the world that uses that frequency/block, meaning the Sprint One will only be able to use Sprint’s LTE network. Since this is part of the physical design of the radio/antenna, it cannot be changed.
Here is the full list of frequencies that the Sprint One can access:
2G/2.5G - GSM/GPRS/EDGE: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
3G - UMTS/HSPA: 1900/2100 MHz with HSPA+ up to 14.4 Mbps
3G - CDMA: 800/1900 MHz for Sprint
4G - LTE: Sprint: 1900 MHz

In order to access the UMTS/HSPA bands, you would have to SIM-unlock. You would have to find out if there’s a carrier in Guam that transmits on those 3G frequencies (1900/2100 MHz) if you want to do things like stream video because the 2G/2.5G is very likely not fast enough.

My carrier is IT&E.
So doing a SIM unlock will help me at least switch to a different carrier, I was actually thinking about doing it just to switch. But as I was reading the various SIM unlock threads here, it's still pretty sketchy.
How about that LG AS840 using LTE on my carrier, or should I throw that thought out the window?
I will look around and see what kind of prices the carrier's offer, I dont want to be on contract so maybe prepaid is the way to go*I'm actually off contract but still pay my contracted amount.
This device is exceptional but the data speeds here locally suck.
