Adding software to webtop via SystemR89's Debian Mod
do not run apt-get to install software in lxterminal
to run apt-get to install software use the penguin debian terminal ( white terminal )
for more information about the debian hack please look in
this thread --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1093790Common Questions
Q: Why don't I see the penguin icon for debian?
A: Did you forgot to download and extract the linuxdisk from the archive to /sdcard-ext/WebTopMOD/ ?
Q: What happened to webtop-joe.zip? and what was it?
A: Deep in kennethpenn's rom thread(page 67) I had posted a version of webtop that was the official 2.3.4 webtop called webtop-joe.zip flashable in CWM. This replaces that CWM zip.I take no credit for any of these hacks
all credit should go to Sogarth, SystemR89, _Alex_ and all the wonderful devs in the debian thread.
If any of you have issues with me releasing any of these mods please send me a pm or join irc. Thanks!

I will flash this and wait for hdmi hack. Thanks Joe!

Will it have a way to install other apps such as openoffice or chrome? will it have the ability to access files regardless of where they are?
I remember because of chroot in the debian solution accessing files outside the chroot was not possible.

Sounds great! Will this be cwm flashable?

I'm off of work and have a lapdock. Perfect ingredients for a test ^_^ I'll edit this when I have info.
[EDIT] DL'ing now. Works perfect. FF is (pre) updated and running smooth ^_^ lxTerm is good as is chroot and finding image file.
Good work! Thanks for sharing BTW Great to have a clean multi-funtional webtop to place next to the fruitcake ISH (incase stuff happens

oops not the same hack. I added hdmi mirroring not webtop without hdmi

no webtop option
I just tried this and after a clean install and I get no webtop option when I plug in the HDMI cable, I just have 2 options - Entertainment Center and Dismiss Picker... am I missing something? (i.e. this is just using the HDMI cable, no dock of any sort, I had this working before upgrading to GB).
The only other thing I can think of is that I have faux123's OC'ed kernel... I think I'll try reverting to stock and see if that fixes things.

this is hdmi mirroring not the hdmi hack. that is unknown's project over here
when he finishes I will link to it in the op

You need a Dock or a webtop.
this is NOT webtop over hdmi.
But thanks Joe, I've been working on this for a few hours and am glad i took a break to see you already have a head start.
I'm looking into some webtop over hdmi, but can't promise anything.

can anyone tell me that the webtop actually works on a normal dock?

ok folks im hoping people can test this for me,
just built a new build (my first for the adam) based on the newest official 2.2 build but with some interesting tweaks
NOTE: i am a dev working for NI especially on honeycomb soon, but these roms are my own.
changelog:
New Kernel with NTFS support, android does not mount this by default but you can mount it via adb read only. (kernel has rw support but i couldnt get it to mount a ext drive rw)
Kernel has few other tweaks and changes and doesn seem to die when sleeping either now
performance tweaks (minor ones) made to the os itself
full google apps added (untested )
ability to disable ril/phone features to conserve battery (see below for info)
adhoc wifi courtesy of the update posted on this site previously
disabled some of the logspam that was enabled but isnt needed
boot.img is first stage prepped for honeycomb
install instructions
download the file linked below and copy to either sd or your adams internal memory and flash as normal
download:
Code:
Please refer to original post linked above for download link
RIL Disabling Information
ok this is a creative feature. all adams be them 3g or wifi only versions keep thje phone related applications and services running in the background and on the wifi only adams this causes a higher battery drain due to system constantly trying to connect to a network, i have implemented a way to disable this by setting a simple property in the system
to do this you need to edit the /system/build.prop file and change the mentioned line to 1 instead of 0 then reboot
if that doesn work then try the below route
open a terminal and run the following command then reboot
Code:
setprop persist.ril-off 1

Yeah I think there are very very few adam owners out in the wild. Might be a decent bump after this next delivery round next week.
And NI has not officially released their kernel source and from my discussions with them I wouldn't expect it real soon. I did however explain to them that it will have to be eventually so I think they might be working on it.

I second that. Am a fervent flasher (the right kind....) and when I get my Adam I will certainly be putting my own 2 cents in to get the most out of it, both OS and UI wise.
I am not alone, so definitely expect a flury of activity by Adam enthousiasts once the next 2 batches are delivered.

Update: 10/03/2011:
UPDATE: 10/03/2011:
time for another update
changelog:
reverted vold change as it screws up things
added some more perf tweaks,
added data2ext script from gtab forum on xda, seems to work nicely, can hit quadrant scores of ~3200 now
flash you will need to install yourself at moment, i forgot to readd it link for flash : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpos ... stcount=26
Code:
refer to original thread/forum for download links
enjoy folks and if anyone wants to do another video feel free.
---------------
UPDATE: 17/02/2011:
ok have tweaked a bit more and made a few more changes.
changelog:
new vold added with ntfs mount support (see below for some issues known with this)
flash player added and should auto install
fixed market and facebook
fixed superuser ability
added estrongs file manger for root use
tweaked the ril scripts to be easier to use.
added modified nvrm_daemon to increase 2d framerate
Code:
refer to original thread/forum for download links
*note for VOLD, this now mounts ntfs drives read only, but it has slightly screwed up the mounts, if you power up device with no microsd plugged in it will mount the internal storage and allow access to is via usb, if you plug in a microsd or boot with one in it will mount both internal and external sds but share the external over usb, it quite happily detects and mounts my 1tb usb hdd which is ntfs formatted though now.
ril tweaks: now all you need to do is create a empty file on your memory card called riloff.txt then reboot and script should do the rest to reenable rename the file rilon.txt and reboot
enjoy folks and if anyone wants to do another video feel free.

XBMC on WebTop

Now that we know that it is running custom version of ubuntu, anybody want try compiling and running xbmc on it ?
XBMC trunk already contains most of the patches for tegra 2 and more will applied soon according XBMC developer ( davilla ). We should be able to test it now ..
<davilla> ssh in, install build tools, git install xbmc trunk, build for tegra2 and see if it works
That would be AWESOME!! I myself was wondering about running XBMC on webtop.
I tried installing git, but apt-get threw a bunch of dependency errors. I tried "apt-get -f install" but it wanted to remove most of the installed packages because they were not needed.
Any updates ?
Instead of trying to install via git why not download the tar of it and extract it ...
Hey guys!
Any news about it?
I really would like to see XBMC on webtop´s atrix!
I found this for the bravehearts.
http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=HOW-
TO_install_XBMC_for_Linux_on_Ubuntu,_a_Step-by-Step_Guide
NOTE: I have not tried it. You are in the DEV section, any mod attempts that YOU make to YOUR phone are YOUR own responsibility.
It is not listed here .... https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/jaunty/armel?text=xbmc
So it probably has not been attempted.
I already did this steps but can´t work.
The XBMC is the most important thing to work for me on Atrix. I´ll wait for someone do that work,

I tried a couple of steps too, dependency hell. Not sure if it will be figured out in DEV section since it's more of an app thing.
I thought I saw a VM once that dev work could be done on. I'm on travel next week 10 hours of flight time plus sitting in Chicago for 3 hours both ways. Maybe I'll get motivated.
Oh man!
I hope you get motivated!
Really thanx!
You would need an x86 emulator or VM to run this I believe as it is only coded for x86. Running it through an emulator would be slow and unreliable or just plain broken most likely. Not to discourage anyone from trying.
XBMC Official Hardware Support List
Asking for a port of it would go in XBMC dev forums

Nope I've seen XBMC running on a beagleboard native, As well it ran very well. We have 2x the ram and 400mhz x2 more speed. So it should run.
I downloaded the XBMC through official site and one of the Readme file (README.armel) talks:
"
This is a port of XBMC for use on ARM Architecture.
As this is not an official version of XBMC, in-depth testing on various setups has not been done. USE WITH CAUTION!
For the purpose of this port, the following Hardware and Software was used.
Software: Scratchbox (cross-compiler) on a Linux (Ubuntu) machine.
Hardware: BeagleBoard (ARM Cortex-A8 with IMG POWERVR SGX).
The source code is based on XBMC for Linux - version 9.11 (Camelot)."
So, I think its possible to run on Atrix, correct? But I have to do a lot of hard things to try it and I´m not able to do it, but it´s a good news.
I think I'm getting lost here....
What is the intention for using XBMC within webtop? Streaming to or streaming from phone?
I've found these apps
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.plexapp.android
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.psa.android.media
http://code.google.com/p/android-xbmcremote/
Longterm features
Download media locally to device's SD card
Stream media to device
And here's the VM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=992178
xPerfect virtual appliance - Android SDK r10 / NDK r5b - dev
dicksteele
I´ll try to explain (sorry, bad english)
I´ll conect my Atrix on dock HD and 2 hd extern (plugged on dock usb´s port).
So, trought the webtop, I open the XBMC and this show me the files (movies and tv series) on my HD´s.
XBMC has a nice e configurable interface.
I´ll look this apps!
Thanx!
Interesting......
I'd try it but going on travel tomorrow and I need my phone

Hi man.
I´d tried it (the armel version) but appears a lot of dependecies and I could´t try to install it.

I don't believe it's running as a VM, it's running as a full instance.
From what I can read on the XBMC threads there are some problems.
But I found a guide for the BeagleBoard that might help people get going, dont think it will run out-of-the-box with this guide.

Sorry, I don't understand your question :S
how would i implement a dualboot
You can take the initramfs.cpio.gz posted by letama in another thread (look at the link to Ice Cream Sandwich - the file is inside the archive you download).
Then extract it and have look at the scripts, which are provided there.
Basically you have to get the system to ask you, from which filesystem image you want to boot
yep! you need to install SDE, restart your device, go in the developer menu and flash the initramfs.cpio.gz that letama posted in the ICS post, atleast that's how it was in the Gen8... by the looks of it the SDE menu is the same. Hope I helped
i wait the multi OS install
2.3
4.0
Ubuntu
Nice, I'll give this a go now.
Edit:
Works on the 101G9.
Keyboard Functions through OTG/Host Cable.
USB Mass Storage (Pen Drive) Functions on 3G Stick Port
Not tried anything else yet.
Are you using a lot of the same kernel objects which android is using?
Excellent Work.
alright thanks

Thank you very much, and also thanks for testing
I am using initramfs + kernel + modules provided by letama for his ICS-build.
By the way - I will upload a new build this night.
I have managed to get basic network functionality via adb + usbcable, so I have upgraded all packages and installed a touchscreen keyboard.
In the new build the LCD backlight brightness is now set to max on boot.
I also have added a user with sudo-permissions, so now settings are saved on reboot (not like in 0.1 where guest sessions were created).
Oh, and I will change the filesystem type from ext3 to ext4.
Still no real progress on WiFi or sound
P.S.: New build will support choosing between booting ICS and Ubuntu
//edit: sry guys, got some problems with my internet provider. i get reconnects every 30 seconds. i hope they get it fixed till tomorrow... sorry for delay, i'm going to upload the stuff tomorrow..

Might be worth giving it a go with a version 3 kernel, you may get some free driver support. although I could be talking nonsense

I activated the root login with my own password from adb and the touchscreen keyboard worked straight away on the 101. It must come with the the drivers preinstalled. I think letma's' done some work into the difference between the 80 and 101.

I've been playing with this all night. I think the drivers have been integrated in the main linux kernel so you should be able to build your own.
They could some prebuilt binaries out there as the OMAP4 board seems quite a popular board.
Also you might have some joy with this http://dev.omapzoom.org/pub/scm/integration/
It's all Good!
Archos 101 G9, HTC Sensation, HTC Hero
Hi Guys,
A1Pha, sorry, didn't have time to test your build, too much stuff going on...
Here is a quick feedback on wifi that may help you:
In android, here is how it works (from memory, don't have my laptop to check)
1) you need to create a nvs file corresponding to tablet, check android init.rc for the way it's done there...
2) Then when you do need wifi, insmod the tiwlan.ko
3) Then, load firmware (check wlan_loader in android init.rc, you should be able to reuse the command) and nvs. If all goes well up to here, you should be able to do ifconfig tiwlan0 and it should have a mac address.
4) Then start wpa_supplicant. You need the appropriate version of wpa_supplicant, 0.8 I think in android source code. You may want to build source code from android source with the appropriate options to remove android extensions.
Again, this is from memory, I'll try to give you more details tomorrow.
Regarding audio, this is mostly alsa so it shouldn't be impossible, you should be able to re-use the configuration found in archos rootfs in /usr/ sub directories. You have to insmod the proper modules though.
Best,
LeTama
Suggestion for the sound, try running the alsamixer and playing with that... worked in debian...

In android, here is how it works (from memory, don't have my laptop to check)

ahh. Thanks for that letama , You're a fountain of knowledge.
I'll give it a try during the holidays.
I was playing about with wpa_supplicant and android kernel drivers. I didn't have the right magic ) and my kernel knowledge is still in it's early stages (only been on the linux desktop for 1 year).

Speed Tweaks for Blur ROMS

This will only modify what needs to be tweak in the build.prop.
It will not modify anybody else's build.prop work.
This means it can be used after you install a custom ROM and
keep any changes your dev has made to their own build.prop.
I have screen shots of my 3 Mps DSL Line and my LTE.
If it gives any indication about how much more performance gain there is
WiFi gives me up to 2.9 Mbps normally.
LTE gives me close to 30 Mbps normally.
Revision 2:
little less aggressive on the phone itself
little bit better WiFi and LTE speeds
cleaned up TONS of code and named everything!
Also the 2nd version will save a backup so you
can restore your old build.prop if you do not like
the changes that were made from from the tweaks.
AND it should keep the original build.prop.
Mind you, the undoer will only work with version 2.
you can also make a swap file (paging file like windows)
command will be
# busybox mkswap /dev/block/zram0
# chmod 077 /dev/block/zram0
# reboot

it has only been tested on SS211.
I believe there are differences in the way it reads
and mounts the partitions...
what does the error say?

I have tried and failed miserably! I am no means a "true" programmer BUT
I have a work around for the people with SS3. Although it does involve a
terminal emulator which is free and the Google Play Store link is BAM!
I will make a flashable fix in the morning with instructions on how to do it.
I will also have a screenshot of what to type as well. The script will still do
the same thing as the flashable BUT in the terminal (manual way)
Just ran the .sh
I just modified and ran the SH from the command line. Only had to remove one > per file. Thanks, my speed increase isn't amazing, but its solid. You are Awesome.
Is there a way to flash this in ss305 yet or what
No, I'm sorry, haven't time to work on it. right now the work around is through a shell and reboot
Sent from my DROID4 using xda premium
Ok ill wait. I dont know how to do anything other than flash zips
Does it have any tweaks for GSM/HSDPA? The 3G is really poor on Droid 4.

Android OS v4.1.2 (Jelly Bean) and lapdock 500 without WebTop

I want to buy a refurbished Droid 4 updated to 4.1.2 jellybean and have a lapdock 500. The seller says he cant find anything about WebTop in the "About" section, or an app on the phone. So without Webtop will the lapdock work? (keyboard, webcam, ports) I have been looking and looking and I do not see a Webtop app download on the web. I am assuming that without Webtop I will get a standard display thats just like what I see on the phone, but does the WebTop app have the drivers for the lapdock ports and functions? I have not been able to find the answer to this. Anyone with experience, info, and/or files please come forward
I want Lapdock 500
Or not MY LAPDOCK RULEZ
Technically he should have Webtop version in About. If he doesn't have - you can always reinstall system (Batman script have Webtop support)
Technically it is possible to run without webtop - but if it doesn't work - it is very simple (and safe) to reinstall

PS. It is Android from Motorola, you have updates and Verizon software (if u are on GSM Zone, u can install Mentor's Patch)
Thanks. Is it unusual that the droid 4 that I want to buy does not mention webtop 3 in to About Phone? The seller can only find webtop 1.0 in the manage applications>all. The phone has android 4.1.2
Not to worry, because reinstall the system takes 10-15 minutes
You can always install CyanogenMod, but 4cm from the image (vertical) does not work [like in the movies with bad proportions)
No fear - Droid hard to screw up
