Where is the early July update for Bell's Galaxy S? - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So where the hell is the early July update for Bell's Galaxy S?
Sent from my GT-I9000M using XDA App

Hey man,
Great news, the update is out. In fact, it has been out since over a year.
Its called rooting your phone to install a polished, stable and overall superior rom.

2$ it'll be out tomorrow morning!
The SGS2 came out on july 14th and they probably didn't want to kill sales by upgrading the original SGS to GB first.
Now that it's available, I would expect the update anytime soon...

I live in Canada and bought my Galaxy s from bell also last year.
Whats wrong with you, root your phone.
Man, the experience is incomparable. Samsung takes an average 6month before dropping a new minor update that adds bugs of its own. Root your phone and you'll thank me later.
I mean i was planning to buy a sgs2 to resolve many of the major problems i had with sgs. At a point i thought it was hardware, since no matter how many times i exchange my phone at futureshop for free, or no matter how many application i installed, my battery would only last 3 hours. And when it reached 10% left, it would freeze, lag and become unresponsive. After installing a rom, my phone now last over a day from extensive use.
Non rooted users are dependent of samsung and their carrier. Rooted phone have unlimited possibilities and their request and want are usually answered rapidly by the community.

What rom do you use?

Sadly, 80% of the rom available is faster and more stable that samsung firmware.
I used to use f1 galaxy s v6. Im testing many here and their before coming to a conclusion.
Anyways, this should be interesting for rooted users,

I have both phones and still enjoy using them both.
If and only "if" Gingerbread doesn't kill my i9000m internal SD like Froyo did, then I might stick with the i9000m...

I'm pretty sure those were hardware or manufacturing defects, that were blatantly exposed by Froyo.
Complaints nose-dived in January and all but disappeared after they finally started getting properly repaired/built units out.

Actually it was a combo effect.
People that had the October and November Internal SD's, plus the original launch of Froyo were the main ones affected. Too many threads to post about this, but most are around here.
The Original Froyo FW was pulled for a reason.
All I know is that I had a "Perfect" and "Mint" November i9000m. Sadly the original Froyo upgrade didn't even 2 days with me. I had the *stutter vibrate* and then it was "Boot loop game over"...

i hope it out by friday. Knowing Bhell they will not release it till the end of the month or even later.

Hi, the sg2 will be available tomorrow with bell & virgin
So, for the room I agree, try a new rom. I had around 800 point in quadrant and now 1700 with a custom rom.

No more hope?

I'm getting ready to dump this sob of a phone... I mean the battery sucks so bad, I cant go a full day without it dying on me and I hardly ever use it, I'll lock my phone and look at it like 10 min later, when no apps are even running and i'll be down quite a bit of battery (I've had to tone down usage A LOT coming from an Atrix 4g, I could go a couple days with some heavy use and not have to charge it, and now it seems like whenever I get the chance I have no choice but to throw this phone on a charger)
Besides the fact of a poor battery, I've always hated LG, they have crap for customer service and phone support, I figured something might change with this phone, but nope...
I was hoping for a GB update soon, but looks like those dreams are crushed after reading something on LG forums saying they probably won't release a GB update EVER! LG and ATT can go die...
Also the community for the thrill is relativity small and it seems like Dev's have very little to offer or gave up on this phone all together...
I figured I'm going to jump back on board with the Atrix 4G or 2... I'm undecided as of right now
So this is goodbye to everyone else who is in this community and noticed my little efforts in helping Peace

Well besides all the other reasons, did you try getting a different battery. I have no problem getting over a day's life of battery out my thrill with medium useage. The only thing that really kills it are the 3d games. Stock 2.2.2, rooted with about half of AT&ts bloat ware removed. I read somewhere (not sure where) about bad batteries shipped with a lot of these phones.
Yeah, the upgrade part and lack of support are downers, but overall this phone really is good. My uncle got the new Droid Razer and my phone out performed it on all the benchmark tests that we compared head to head.
At the very least, Rogers releasing GB is a sure sign ATTs GB has to be right around the corner.
Captivate (July 2010 release - updated to froyo 8 months later)
Infuse (May 2011 release - updated to gb 8 months later)
See the pattern......it's all at&!
Well I did that Rogers GB update... aside from the huge headache it took to get on my phone and all the crap apps from Rogers and what not...its a solid update. The battery is by far better I can tell you that for sure I'm happy and might just stay with this phone if it holds up tomorrow and on Tuesday...
Its so much smoother and my internet is blazing fast compared to froyo, for those who haven't tried this, I suggest you do so ASAP.

ICS Advant

As I'm sure most of you are aware that we've gotten a Speacial AT&T Message! Oolala!
In earlier speculation, Thrill was told to be getting ICS the quarter of the year, guess what?! It's the sixth month!
Quarter of the year! There's twelve months in a year, if this hasn't set in to anyone's head yet, I think you should do the math.......
We could be lucky, most of LG had blown off the Thrill for the O3D.... could it be on O3D by now?
Just go over the facts and come back to this, all you need to remember is 'Quarter of the year'.
Is LG Setting us up again or do you believe that this OS Official?

What's the problem with having apps loaded in the background?
If your phone needs more RAM then it will shut down background apps to accommodate your opened apps needs.

There's an app called autokiller memory optimizer that you can use to stop certain apps from starting up automatically. I hear that es task manager also does the same. It sucks that you have to use 3rd party apps to get this phone to work somewhat fluidly but you gotta do what you gotta do.

A Fine OS Google... a Fine OS

Amidst all the threads with 4.2 bashing and complaining and websites calling 4.2 the worst since Honeycomb, I wanted to just say that 4.2 is the best version of the OS to date. I've been sole on Android since 2009 with the Droid release and had experience since eclair. A major gripe I've always had with Android is that regular reboots were required to keep the system running efficiently. Custom Roms were required to have good features. But Android has matured to the point of greatness.
I have a De-Odexed version of 4.2 with not one reboot in over 100 hours on my Nexus 7 and Ive been draining the battery to at least 10% each day. (I use it a lot Lol). This is something I would never have been able to do on any other version of the OS. It is fast, stable and very efficient.
Way to go Google... Can't wait for the next one
Don't worry, it's always the same handful of whingers. Besides them, there are millions of satisfied owners...
If there were a company in the market who had changed their business model from innovation to litigation,
and they had more cash than any other company on earth,
you would think they might be spending some of that cash throwing up FUD for their competitors.
No one says they have to play fair.
Same here, really like and enjoy 4.2.
Of course there's a couple of bugs, esp. with new features, but that's nothing unusual and they will be fixed.
On another note: would you mind telling me how and what you used to deodex 4.2?
Wanna mess around again the ROM but the tools I got barely worked on 4.0 so can't even think of using them on 4.1 or even 4.2.... :-/
Appreciated

I just prefer 4.1.2. I just haven't been whining about it all over the forum.
The only feature that I actually used on 4.2 was the keyboard. So I downgraded back to 4.1.2 and just flashed the keyboard. And 4.1.2 performs better on my device.

I love it. Chrome seems light years faster.
As much as I would love to give my thanks to google for this update I can not. I've been using android since cupcake and one of the biggest fans. Eleven different devices running android over the years. I am always one of the lucky ones and don't have the issues others complain about, untill now.
I've had my n7 since launch and it is the only android I never bothered to root as it was perfect from the start and I had little use for my rooted apps. After the ota I had constant hot reboots and a somewhat flawed ui (not that's a real complaint as much of that was supposed to happen) not to mention worse battery life and slower charges.
I was forced to root, and am happy I did, alrdeay running three different custom roms and pretty impresses, much more so than googles official 4.2 update
This is the first time that in my opinon the update was worse than the previous.
So I guess I like it as it finally made me root my n7!

I quite like 4.2 the only thing I would like added is a restart option on the power button. Have had some random reboots but its nothing major for me and as apps get updated they are getting less frequent.
I don't think I have ever bashed a release version in over 3 years of solely using droid os.
Cursed a few custom ROMs tho

Did you perform a full wipe after updating to 4.2. If not it might have been some incompatible apps making your n7 do the reboots and other things. By the way do you have an 8 or 16 GB n7? I have 16, and haven't had a single problem after updating.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
I dont feel like saying thanks google because its their job. and on one side am happy on the other i wait for 4.2.1 to fix all the bugs ..so its balanced
I haven't had an issue with performance at all did a clean install from a image and been great.
The only thing that I find useless are the " quick settings" cause they are not quick making a five step process into a four step process is not quick

A full wipe doesn't help. I did one before installing 4.2. I haven't had a reboot since I uninstalled HD Widgets, but it hasn't been that long. It may not be causing the problem, but it certainly does seem to make the problem come to the forefront.
Well I have noticed that HD widgets are fine until you use a lock screen widget then all hell breaks loose.

Lucky bastard.
I bought an Active on 8/9, and by 8/13 I was in an AT&T store replacing it with a new Active. That Active only lasted until 8/16. Worst part was that I was on vacation the whole time and unable to use my phone during a 17 hour drive home from Florida. The memory card still works but I'm done with Samsung's poor quality control. This isn't the first poorly made Samsung I've owned or had issues with, but it will be my last.

Just because this phone isn't popular doesn't mean Samsung won't update it. Hell they send updates out for the rugby and the other oddball Samsung phones that att has. I am thinking we will at least get 4.3 when the original s4 does which is slated for next month.

sure but my point is why worry about something that doesn't have an available update yet? Usually leaks happen before updates are even released OTA. I would wait until we have a 4.3 update to see if we can get it somehow or if there is an odin flash or what. I am sure we will have a way soon... just hold on you may not be able to upgrade the MF3 but probably other releases.

Samsung's official statement on the matter says that
"Samsung designed and tested the Galaxy S 4 Active to adhere to IP67 standards for water resistance (1 meter for 30 minutes). If your Galaxy S 4 Active has been damaged due to water exposure, bring it back to an AT&T retail store as soon as possible for a one-time exchange for another Galaxy S 4 Active."

Coming here to see what this note 3 is about :)

For the ones who know me, I had a note 1 and note 2 for AT&T. I've done my little share or Rom development and theming apps...
So anyone who knows me..what's up guys....Looks like we need alot of work here I take it?
Hey. I remember you in the 2 forums. Yeah it's dead over here but there's a thread in general that kinda let's us flash roms. Someone just verified it working and starting to dig deeper into it to maybe get us some roms made up. Check the thread out.
And if you are running mi9 then root with dlv and disable your update cause once you are on mj5 you can't go back as it stands right now. It will auto update if you wait to long

It's funny that you mention it, just today we discovered that it is possible to flash custom ROMs. If you're on MJ5 and something goes wrong, you won't be able to un-brick your device. However if you're running an earlier firmware you can use Odin to re-flash stock. Can't wait to wipe this TouchJizz off the face of the earth, just waiting for that MJ5 Odin. :good:
Wish!
Good to see ya around here...Ya, I'm patiently waiting for this thing to take off. This is just upsetting that we have to deal with this nonsense with the locked bootloaders
Hope you make the jump wish....your a helpful guy

Damn it....mine did the same thing, it updated while i was driving home from best buy....lol
Once your on Mj5 as of right now the most you can do is Root and theme. im Hoping we can get a Odin Package for MJ5 soon so we dont have to worry about bricks and we can start testing more things with out worrying about not being able to recover.
true..root ,theme and debloat ....You would think.after debloating this rom. And using sd read/write values that would increase a decent amount for such a early development.
Is phone sure loves to use alot of stock ram for some reason..

I tired everything to get it to not update and as soon as I put my battery back in it was updating. Yours seemed to update a lot faster than mine did. It was like two days. I just got mine the other day

Yeah u don't want to play with a phone that has no Odin for it

We will have Odin soon enough. For now root, Debloat, and xposed is good enough for me. My 2 biggest gripes were the green eqs tabs, and the green battery. I themed to match the blue tw jelly bean theme, and removed the battery icon. Looks much better. Also did some other things with xposed. Very happy for now.

I've been patiently waiting as my phone updated to mj5 also so I'm stuck with stock for now, I don't want to start modding without a way to recover. Good to see you here Wish777 hopefully we see the ball rolling soon with this beast.

Yeah I hear you, I want to see custom recovery before I go all out on this, definitely need nandroid as a safety net. Luckily this phone is badass stock so I'm pretty content at the moment.

Hello all.
Im new to the note 3... but not to xda. I dont post much at all. However I do have a rooted skyrocket and give all credit to Vincom. I still read through his threads regularly. I got the s2 when it was the flagship and now ive upped the grade to the next one. I think its wrong of the manufacturer and carrier to charge us a boatload for this device and chain it to the dock so to speak. It seems there is some experience in this thread so I will be checking in often. I also had the mj5 update sneek in before I knew what happened and it does seem that we are all leary of the dread 600$ brick. Thanks to all who dare. You are my hero (s).

I'm on Mj5 and I rooted with Kingo...
I cant post links to it per xda rules but if you google it you'll find it...I haven't had any issues .
You can use "wanan" app and "exposed framework" app to theme and some decent mods.
