Hey guys,
I've tried to change my density with lcd density changer (phone is rooted). After restart I've got a bricked phone which I was able to recover.
So I was wondering if there is any possibility to change the density, because 240 is to much for me
Greetings Nico

hi, i do manually, root the phone, then with a root explorer or es explorer go to /system and search a build.prop, open it and search a line "ro.sf.lcd_density=240" and modify, be careful because its a start-up file
if you have a lg home, its no compatible with other resolutions, i recommends adw home
regards
You can use a App called LCD Density Change or another called LCDDensity
You need root on phone and busybox.
I don't understand the meaning of change the LCD density... can you explain it to me?

LCD Density controls the resolution of the screen. Smaller density means Bigger resolution and Bigger density Smaller resolution.
Yeah, the question is why anybody want worse resolution in a lcd.
As far as I know, lcds are optimized to native resolution, and using other doesn't offer the same quality.

It's supposed to make your LCD look better.
I've tried it on Wildfire before, it does help a little if your screen res is really low.
But on OB, i think it's already good enough.
I've set my resolution from 240 to 170 because I needed 6 lines and rows on my launcher an I really don't like the huge icons an fonts on 240 resolution
Help Please

I seem to have bricked my phone after changing my density too. How were you able to recover. When the device is on, it doesn't recognize correctly in Windows. I can't seem to boot into recovery. Not able to view device as a hard drive. Any advice? Thanks.
I'm using 200 on Zeus right now, font and icon is too big on 240

Use lcd density modder pro from play.
I'm using the pro version because Google play would have compatibility issues if i wouldn't :what:
So if you want to change use that one
LCD Density Modder Pro: http://market.android.com/details?id=com.birdapi.android.dpipro
Boot in recovery usind adb
(Search how to)
Or reflash everything as if it was new

What is the best way to switch the launcher on stock 1.1?
Do I just use homeswitcher and choose launcherpro/adw or is there another way to make sure the resolution says the same
Yes, homeswitcher works great for switching/selecting default launcher. What do you mean by "is there another way to make sure the resolution says the same "? The nook's resolution does not change. If you mean LCD density, then the only way to keep the settings from reverting on reboot is to modify the build.prop file, and change the stock LCD density setting.

There are Apps in the Market that can also change the LCD Density, with out manually editing the file yourself. I can't remember what its called now but I used to use it till i Realized the LCD Density that comes stock with the nook is perfect for me.
Could work at maybe 220 or 200 but at 240 for sure it's gingerbread.
Edit: works @ 220 also.

is it located in build.prop
Its amazing....
Can we have some screenshots please?
Check the video:

Ok that's just friggin bizarre...
Hello, Ice Cream Sandwich.
I didnt have the lcd parameter in my build.prop. Is that possible?
Second I added it but it does not seem to have done anything. I bumped it to 220.
Under what folder is the build.prop file?
It is located under System.
Cant find the line where to change the LCD density in the build file?

I didnt find it in mine, so I just added it in: ro.sf.lcd_density=220
i just used the lcd density app.
You can also add it to /data/local.prop.
I noticed while themeing that all the gingerbread icons where in the Xoom apks..
I guess all the density hack does is use the HDPI instead of the MDPI drawable folders
This takes it to high density from medium density.
It's all making sense to me now
I tried 200 and went into an infinate boot loop, had to hard boot to get out of it

What!? I was gonna try 200 but now I'll wait.
I actually would not recommend editing the build file, if you screw it up with a too high etting you will probably have to reflash it with an older image, rather use the LCD setting app, that way you can reset it
I used the lcd density for root app off the market and changed it to 180 and 200 and got the gingerbread look. But its useless cuz it u have no access to ur back and home buttons. Once u click into n app or something ur stuck.

Yeah, really need the physical buttons for this unless someone can code in some virtual buttons.
hi friends...
as we all know gnote has 800*1200 resolution
its quite big there are many application which doesn't fit on screen properly
i hv galaxy tab also, all apps fit perfec on screen
(i know there are some density changer on market but they alll need root to do so
but i dont want to root my gnote)
so plz tell me how can i decrease my resolution to 600*1024
and if it can be decreasd is there any prob with apps (like apps goes out of screen)
thanks
sorry for my english
Any one plz
newhunt app, spb mobile shell is not displaying in correct way
plz any thing that can solve my prob
It's impossible to do this. You should just root it and change the density.
Has anyone tried it???
I think if I do so.... main menu gonna has some kind prob because it has 5*5 icon set
Tell me if I can make it 5*4
Is there any way to do this
Thanks in advance
The Resolution is a physical attribute of the screen - you cannot change it by software. You could probably emulate a different resolution but it would look unsharp and crappy.
Instead you should do what SilverHedgehog suggests and change LCD density - search for LCD density to find out more.
I use launcher pro, and there is a option to change rows/columns to your desired number, don't know if this helps, it's obviously dependent on hour launcher, but thought I'd chime in.

If you have a laptop, or a PC with an LCD monitor, try setting the resolution to something non-native and marvel at how crappy it looks.
Then consider how your Note's screen would look if you could do the same.
Regards,
Dave
Thanks guys for your precious suggestions
Actually I hv galaxy s2 and galaxy tab n both has perfect screen resolution
All apps working perfect... no screen resolution glitch in apps working
I think I should wait for ice cream sandwich update
Thanks again
Feel free for More suggestions
Noob here.. what is it? Why is it? And what happens if i change it? Oh and how lol
Cheers
quick simple explaination is:by changing the density you are changing the size of everything that displays on the screen.eg. icons and letters.
to change the density you need to:
1. root the phone: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1329360
2. download root exploer from the market.
3. open root explorer and look for the file "build.prop" in the system folder.
4. in build.prop, look for density and change the number value next to it. it should be 320 by default, but my fav. is 240.
5. save the file after edited and then reboot your phone.
hope this helps....if not, you can always do a search here, Google or YouTube.
What he said. Another way to think about it is it's similar to when you change the resolution on your laptop or desktop computer. If you don't want to do it manually, there are apps available for doing it (still require root.)

Cheers for the info.. i will try it
And yes i know i would normally search but you know what its like when you have something new and shiny and wanna find new ways to break it plus i've always found the community here to be really helpful..
You can also use the free program FontChanger, but its worth buying Root Explorer.
Android 4 will have option to change font size.
Ok so I changed the density to 240 which yeah looks nice in things like the xda app.. browser etc but it makes my home screen smaller plus my app drawer.. very strange.
Is there a workaround for this?

There is definitely a fix/work around for that. I don't know what it is, though; I asked in another thread, but wasn't answered. You might have to use a different launcher (abandoning touchwiz.)

oh yeah...forgot to tell you that touchwiz won't look properly after density change. so you will need to use another launcher. my personal favourite is ADW EX Launcher.
S memo will also look weird. but there is a thread in the apps forum to fix this problem.

I don't understand...
...why icnreasing density make all things greater?
Why it isn't the opposite?
And what is vm heap? which is the best setting for this value?
Has anyone updated to the newest version of MM (MMB29S) and managed to change their LCD Density setting? I've tried through a number of apps and also tried to manually update the file, but can't get it to work. :crying: The N6 looks awful with the stock setting.

I've always had it smaller so it looks awful to me. I just like having extra icons on the screen that's all.
Maybe you should look at Nova Launcher, which allows you to make icons really small and allows you to put a really large number of icons on the screen. I haven't really tried any other launchers because this one is so exceptionally good - you can define icon size, number of isons vertically and horizontally. I'm sure if I tried I could get a lot more on my home screen(s).

Have you rooted? If you have, have you used system less root? That won't let you modify dpi, since it can't modify the system partition.

in a terminal emulator:
Code:
su
grant superuser to terminal emulator
Code:
wm density 560
replace 560 with whatever number you want 560 is default
aand reboot for full effect.
This can also be done w/o root using ADB on a computer:
Code:
adb shell wm density 560
That's brilliant! Cheers mate!

384 dpi. Font size 'huge'. The N6 turns to tablet mode.
There is an app called 'build.prop editor'
493 is the density of the screen. Confirmed on the main XDA Nexus 6 page

With systemless root I have no issues editing the build.prop, deleting system apps, etc, all of which are stored in the system partition. The only difference between normal root and systemless root is the SuperSU apk and other files are stored outside of the system partition. When installing SuperSU it doesn't modify the system partition, but that doesn't mean you can't modify it.

If you're talking about changing your DPI, I use https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.texdroider.texdroider_dpi
I have mine at 480 which is really nice. Requires root btw
