[Q] Help N1 won't Power on

Hey Guys I really need your help my N1 won't power on for some reason. I really need to get some things off the phone from certain software that I had in case I have to have it repaired or sent away. I'll try to be brief what happened I was exercising with my phone inside a protective case that covers the whole phone and I went to change the next song while listening to music and when i went to push the power button the screen remained black the whole time and I couldn't see anything at all the screen was black the whole time after numerous attempts at pushing the power button. So I held down the power button to try and reboot it and then the music stopped, so then I hit the power button again to turn it on and it hasn't turned on since yesterday. I even took the battery out and let it chill for a min and still doesn't work. when I plug it in to the charger the orange/green light comes on and as well with the USB connection too, but still can get it to power on.
Anyone have any Idea what it could be? I am assuming it's the power button but I am not for sure. Is there anyway to turn it on again in case i need to recover any files, etc. the reason i want to get it to work is that I don't want to have to go through the hassle of sending it away to be repaired if there is some way I can do it myself. I am trying to avoid sending it away with my carrier and I really need to access certain files on the phone if all else fails. If anyone has any ideas I'd appreciate it thnx to anyone.

If it's a power button failure, you can put the phone on charge, then remove and reinsert the battery... keep trying, it will turn on eventually...

it worked the first time I did it thank you so much well just in case it ever happens again how can I back up some things on my apps for example I have notes on AK notepad how would I back those up? and if I wanted to move some software to my sd card that doesn't allow it?

oh darn the X came up when I powered it up but still nothing just a black screen I got all excited for nothing

i got after 5 or so times of taking the battery out thnx again is there a way or software to make the N1 awake or power off with the trackball without rooting it since the power switch is buggy now?

Titanium Backup will backup apps and data to SD card.
Widget Locker has an option for trackball wake.
LockEnabler will let you turn screen off/sleep.
Quick Boot will let you reboot, boot into recovery etc. Be careful booting into recovery or boot loader, because power button is used to navigate (you have to use adb).

thnx again is there anyway to restart/reboot the phone if it is not rooted via trackball or another button?

Reboot is possible with Quick Boot (as noted above), but if you ever turn off then the battery toggle is your only option...

[Q] Touchpad USB screen

My buddy dropped off his touchpad to have me check into Android for it. After getting it into usb screen, I'm pretty sure the "center" button isn't working and is permanently stuck with the usb screen. I noticed the "center" button wasn't having any affect on the touchpad before getting it into the usb screen, but didn't think about it... Guess I'm going to have to hope it dies overnight and try to figure out the "center" button later. Any thoughts on either situation if it doesn't die by tomorrow?

hold down the power and bottom home button for about 20 secs, the touch pad will reboot and be out of the USB mode.

Luckily it died over night and booted up normal this morning. I'll check the home button again but pretty sure it isn't working. I tried that numerous times last night for several different amounts of time with no change. Just hoping it doesn't get stuck again when I try to load cm7 on it.

Well as long as the center/home button isn't registering as being pressed when it's not, you should have no problems loading android. Just be sure that if you load any other rom other than CM7/CM9 that you rename the file to include update- in front of the filename, and all should load correctly.

Actually loaded everything last night and it worked perfectly! It's pretty rad so far. Found out the button works if u press on the very bottom right of the button. Thanks for the help!

[Q] Can't boot out oh hboot

OK, sorry if this subject has been posted before. I couldn't find it. I have a stock AT&T Vivid. Not unlocked. Works fine the way it is for me. Most the time. I let my battery die last night now today, it won't boot past the HBOOT screen. I can use the up arrow to scroll down the menu for fast boot, recovery and all the rest, but the power button will not execute. So, I cant select any of the options. I don't mind doing a factory reset, if it will let me. Even tried booting with my spare battery which is charged externally.
Any help would be appreciated. Been beating my head against the keyboard for 2 hours already.

That sounds like a hardware issue...

I think it might be the down button. If I hold the up arrow when I boot the phone, it will boot into safe mode. But if I just press the power button, it goes to the HBOOT screen.

Maybe its stuck... give it a whack?

Tried that too. might have something lodged. Guess I am going to have to tear the phone down. Hopefully that's all it is.

Tore down the phone. Cleaned all the contacts. When I press on the down button microswitch, it feels just the up button. Guess the only thing left is to replace that micro switch. Just not sure where to order it from. Any ideas?

Man do i miss those battery pulls..

so there were a several occasions where I had been stuck on the splash screen and had to do a hard power reset..although sometimes inconsistently. one time it took one try and other times multiple tries and there was a point where nothing was happening for almost 20 minutes and I had to step away and do something then came back and tried it again and got it rebooting again.
today, I've been at it for an hour now trying to reboot my phone after getting stuck on splash screen. what I did was push a framework-res through adb and rebooted, but forgot to push a modified services.jar with signaturecheck disabled so i'm sitting here thinking wouldn't it be nice if I could do a battery pull? it's hard to work and test stuff out while worrying if my phone will ever boot up again..
i'm guessing my only solution is to let the phone die completely(it was at 72% before this happen..great I wonder how long that will take to drain....), charge it back up, then power into bootloader... but if there are other solutions that would be wonderful...

Sometimes at work spotify goes wonky on me and my screen wont turn back on and I go thru the same crap as you. Trying to simulate a battery pull doesnt work most of the time and I dont have access to a computer at work that I can bust a reboot with

Already been discussed..if you hold power and.volume down while holding the phone under a bright light it will do it

device wasn't recognizing adb this time, and it dawned on me later that I should've tried doing fastboot when the USB prompt chime was working at the time, but the chime stopped and it wasn't recognizing my fastboot commands.. guess I have no choice but to wait and keep trying

under a bright light... well that did the trick. so the capacitive lights have to be off? thank you, I got it to reset.

Probably under a bright light so the phone doesnt shut off/reset while in your pocket

Yeah maybe that's it..someone from the international HTC One figured it out...and I've seen it posted in the threads on the Sprint version. Most people think you're messing with them when u tell them to hold it under a bright light

[Q] Battery died and now screen too dim

I have searched the forum, and Google and AndroidCentral and haven't been able to find a possible solution to my problem. I am hoping someone here can help.
Phone HTC Vivid
The battery died last week and every since then the screen is so dim I can barely see it. It will charge and hold a charge all day, everything else works fine, vibration works, I just cant see the screen unless in a dark room.
Never done anything to alter software. I did replace the LCD screen, digitizer and motherboard about 2 months ago. All has worked fine until the battery died.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Yes that was the first thing I looked at. I really think it is a software issue since the phone works perfectly otherwise. Vibrations, calls, text, browser, apps, etc everything works. I would like to try doing a hard reset to return to factory settings to see if perhaps if it is a software issue this might correct it.
I don't know how to do this on an HTC so any help is appreciated.

Go into settings and look under storage i believe

You can boot into HBoot by completely turning off your phone holding the down volume button the pressing power at the same time then factory reset there.

Eh I wouldn't trust that all too well... Personally it has always givin me problems

That will bork internal storage... And require windows to reformat...
