Incredible S battery question - HTC Incredible S

I was wondering if when I buy a new battery for my device, does it have to be 1450 mAh or could it be higher .. my device's current battery has 1450 mAh but can I get one with 1500 mAh?

I think you don't need. Or if you want to get another battery that you should get the same stock battery from the store to ensure that will has never damaged your phone. I think so.

im pretty sure a 1500 mah battery wouldnt fit. probly just stick with the original one

What would be the point of adding an extra 50mAh? If you were going to get a bigger battery surely you'd want some serious extra capacity. I think there are some out there which have much larger capacity, but I believe they come with a different backing for the device (so that they fit in the phone) that affects the radio signal quite badly.

50mAh is not worth it.

i cannot believe that there isn't even 1 single 1500 capacity Battery... or even bigger that would be able to retain the original back cover.... so am i just going to have to wait until june until the HTC EVO comes out? cause isn't that being shipped with a larger battery capacity then our own?? if so, i imagine that we'd be able to use it as well right?? that phone is practically a replica of ours.. or am i mistaken??
and even if i am.. the fact that they can make a bigger battery for the EVO and not HD2 is mind blowing...

I believe I have read that the evo is actually bigger than our HD2's. In fact, it's taller.

I doubt the evo battery will work in the hd2. There is this misconception going around that the evo is basicly a hd2 with android... Its not. It's a completely different phone. Yeah, it has a similar processor, same screen size, etc. But there are a lot of phones that use similar hardware. It even looks similar. But there is a lot of different hardware. And it's a completely different model. People just have it in there head, for some reason, that the EVO and the HD2 are the same phone hardware-wise. Yes, there are similarities, but they are not interchangeable.... not with hardware OR software.

ahhh well thats disappointing... but i mean if the evo has a bigger capacity yet it still retains its small size making the evo nice and slim like the hd2.. then what's preventing us from having the same sized battery??
its all really frustrating.. because battery life is an issue with this phone....and even a 1500 would increase my life by a couple hours.. which is more then enough...

If it's got a a bigger capacity battery, the actual physical size will probably be bigger, too. If the evo is the same size as the HD2, they must have found some other way to make more space for a bigger battery. I bet mugen could maybe make a 1500mah battery that fit the hd2 if they tried... they've always been good at fitting bigger batteries in the same size of space. We just have to convince them it would be worth it.
lol sucks...i don't understand how someone would make a 1300 capacity battery and not a 1500 or 1600 one... but whatever... i'm done ranting...
but yea.. if the evo has a slim battery like ours with a 1500 capacity.. i'm hoping that some businesses will jump on the opportunity to make some cash..
i use this 1600mah andida Battery from Ebay.
check the ebay auction number: 390184360646

IMO it looks quite a bit longer than our beloved HD2's. Hence the ability to cram more juice in.
So how is this battery performing?

Can you talk about the performance ofthis battery? significant increase in power? any charging issues? As I understand from ebay page, no replacement door needed - right?
thanks in advance
i used my hd2 all day including push exchange and over an hour of video and i could not make it run dead until midnight from leaving charge at 9am. is there really such a need for extended battery? i mean the iphone performs more dismally than this in bettery life and i reckon it's pretty dam good for stock battery and a smartphone with such high specs.
It all depends what you're doing. I've managed to kill a battery in 2 hours once

!!!Max mAh for stocked battery size!!!

Hello all as everyone know the stock HD2 battery has a horrible life. As I have been looking for a replacement and seen alot of threads here trying to find a nice battery so I came to ask few things I want to be clear about so post away if you can help.
1) I want normal size battery that is not extended battery as it fits in the original cover for TMoUS HD2.
2) I want the highest possible mAh that fits in the original case, which is what 1500-1600 mAh? if anyone know any other let me know.
3) I seen alot name these 3 companies Andidas, Galilios, Mugen. So name them which is better.
Keep in mind that to me money is not an option as I am welling to spend whatever long as it meets my requirement as I want quality and durability also don't want it to blow up as safety is also a concern, thanks looking for good product review and advice.
Anyone? any take on this? thanks.
i m interest with this too
Well I took HD2 of charge at 8AM when I was getting ready for work and now its 3:46PM and I am at 63% battery power. So I need a real solution as I use my phone for work, hope someone who tested other battery can respond as I need it urgent.

Have you been using the phone? If so, this is not bad! You only lost 37% battery for almost a whole day of work!
And you will not find a battery that fits like the original one, and has more capacity.
Just buy a second one, charge it, and take it along...
Thanks for your reply man but are you sure? As I seen in this very forum battery that is 1300 mAh and I'm not talking about bulky extended battery packs. Also carrying around two battery and changing it is not an option. Also that's like only 6-7hours and already that low ATM I have to keep my charger with me at work fearing that ill lose battery power as it happend once. I can Google some results but ill take feedbacks from user here any day as they tested it and used it thus they can compare it and it would have a fare product review.

dude if you can get your phone to mid after noon with more than 60% charge, you really shouldn't be complaining lol....
Its 8:30PM EST here and i am at 34% as device has uptime of 47hours and connected to 3g tmobile network for 36hours. I need 1500-1700 mAh but i seen 1300 on this forum as they say its same size.
The best battery you can get is a momax 1100 mah yes the mah is less than stock. But the reports are very good and it should go longer then the stock. It will give you about 20% extra. There are no good 1500 mah or more batteries. For example HyperNode would get with that momax battery instead of 34% 49 or 52 something like that.

The higher the mAh number, the longer a battery will last.
If your phone needs 1000 milliamps(1.0Ah) to work, a 1000mAh battery will last 1 hour continued use, if the phone needs 500mAh it will last for 2 hours and so on.
So going from standard 1230mAh to 1500mAh will not give that much more battery life.
Easier to carry a charged spare standard size battery if going to be away from charger for a long time.
I've also taken a different 'strategy' Charge all time (in car with Navi and BT anyhow) and use cheap secondary batteries (as with this charging strategy they wont last too long)
Apart form the Ah of a battery, it makes a huge difference in how the battery is engineered. It is indeed possible that a lower Ah battery provides more rela life power....

Jan thanks for that useful reply as ill look in to the product. But is there any battery that you know from same company with higher mAh? From what you said this is better than stock one and lower mAh yet better performance due to higher quality.
So ATM two candidates for possible same stock size battery.
1) Momax 1100 mAh
2) Mugen 1300 mAh
I hope people who used any or both can compare it with stock battery and post the finding here so others like me can make easy decision and order it.

Extended Slim Battery...

So.... after being out for half a year... a extended SLIM battery has not been released yet?? I mean, I know i'm not the most "technical" person in the world.. but honestly?? how HARD can it possibly be??!! doesn't make one bit of sense.... and they still haven't made an OEM battery cover.. with a kick stand??!! ridiculous.. the person in charge of the accessories.. needs to be fired...
sorry just a little rant.. after seeing my friend buy a extended slim 1750mah battery for his EVO.... which is a HD2 replica..... the battery sizes are identical... and I'm not even asking for 1750... 1500mah is all i really need.. if i had an extra 2-3 hours of battery life.. then it would be PERFECT for a full days use
I posted similar thing awhile back with some moronic replies saying that there is not a market for that.
These people, rather, want you to believe that it's better to buy ebay/chinese fakes for $5-10 bucks that, ironically, labeled "1500" or "1600mah"! I dont understand why other phones, with similar form factor to the HD2, manage to get standard size extended battery with the added 200-300mah, but the HD2 only get +70mah (1300mah) from Mugen.

hear hear. The thing that annoys me the most is the battery life on the HD2, or rather, the pace on which it drains. The biggest improvement would be a battery with a bigger capacity.
How hard can it be? probably just as hard as trying to fit 2 litres of water into a 1 litre bottle

i think thats a slight overexaggeration... first of all take the evo for example.. they managed a standard size 1700mah battery... you're telling me our battery with practically the same size as the evo.. can't even get a 1500?? no sir this isn't a technical issue.. trust me.. this is just bad marketing on the hTC HD2 part.. thats all.
Are the physical dimensions of the battery the same?

Nope - biggest improvement would be a device that uses much less energy, so a battery with a capacity of 250mh would be enough for two days full of work.
the largest capacity for the stock battery size is so far mugen at 1300..
but its very very expensive.. and comes with only 70mAh more juice.. wth man..
I have designed a solution for the short battery life of the HD2, it solves a couple of problems ive seen complaints about and will increase the battery capacity beyond anything available currently, and its not and ugly lump im hoping to put it in production very soon, the only compromise is extra thickness of the phone...

My problem with this is that manufacturers start making power management decisions for me. They start reducing power output from wifi and bluetooth, they restrict standards on things like wifi (allowing 802.11g but not n), they limit screen brightness, etc. All in order to say that their unit last longer on a single battery charge.
I'm sure that the technology is there to have processors that run twice as fast as ours yet still fit in the HD2 device. They just can't make one that will last on such as small battery for more than 10 minutes. That's fine with me. Make it and let the user select how fast the processor runs.
They won't do that because they would still have to advertise that the battery lasted 10 minutes and there would be consumers out there saying, your device needs to use "much less energy, so a battery with a capacity of 250mh would be enough for two days full of work."

Well if it was thin it wouldnt be an "extended" battery would it? The whole point is that its extended to fit more power into it.
If it was easy to get more power into a battery then HTC would already supply them with the HD2 and extended ones wouldn't be needed/wanted.
apperantly you dunno anything about material science.
CAN'T a new battery with a better performance with SAME SIZE come out? Oh of course no! cuz it doesn't have bigger size.
Don't think there are any worth considering... there are 1600mah batteries on ebay but the overall consensus is that they're just about the same as ome battery ... it would truly make HD2 a much better phone if they can just extend the stock battery by a bit...

Apparently your logic and maners are weak. If you bothered to flip through next two pages of this section, you would find at least two threads about batteries. In those threads you would find that there is no slim extanded battery in existance for HD2.

lol, your scientific/logical huge brain obviously missed the point.
You asked for an "extended" battery, that would infer you wanted one that was "extended" beyond the normal limits. Currently the only way to get one that is beyond the limits of the ones that are supplied with devices are to buy ones that are "extended" meaning they are larger in dimension and hold more power.
Currently you CANT get a battery for our device that has the capacity of a extended one unless its "extended". The ones you see on ebay and other sites saying otherwise are FAKE.

I suspect that if someone made a genuine Lithium Polymer battery instead of Li-Ion it would indeed hold more charge. But I have not seen any such. The Andida is listed as LiPoly, but it can't be - it is basically the same mA as the stock battery.
Mugen has a 1300mah battery, which is a little more than the 1230 or 1250mah the stock battery comes with. I think I get a little more time with my mugen battery than with the stock, but never ran any definitive tests. But mugen is probably the best you will get with a battery the same size as the stock one.

Why do you guys disinform people? As a matter of fact there are "extendend" batteries that have the same size as the OEM batt. Where it is written that a battery extended in power must also be extended in size? Of course, there is a relation between size and power, but this relation might vary depending on the materials and the technology used.
Here you have a 2430 mAh battery (the "famous" business gold battery, which no one here bothered to test), and the seller says it has the same dimensions as the original one. If this battery has indeed 2430 mAh remains for us to find out. I'm thinking to buy one, just to test.

Nowhere in the add does it state that it is the same size as the OEM battery. I'm wondering if it really is; from the picture angles it is difficult to tell and might be deeper. But it is probably the same.
However, the packaging looks amateurish and suspect. This almost looks like a home-made wrapper.

Gold Battery
OK, I asked the seller about the size and if it will work with the stock cover, here is the answer:
"Hi,
I think it will work with it and the battery has a same size as standard battery."
On looking at the pictures, the batteries may be from Japan, but that is Chinese writing on the battery... or at least it is identical to my Andida "1600" writing.
Yeah...I would'nt put that battery into my HD2...seriously, that looks sketchy as hell. IF it turns out to be 2300mAH, which I highly doubt...it looks REALLY amateur-ish. It's all about memory management people, close crap thats running in RAM and your stock battery will last literally ALL day.

I really hope that you're joking.
Well I'm not, call me stupid, call me whatever you want but I do believe what I said for a main reason: one of my hobbies are rc flying models, both electric and with combustion engines. In this hobby you need powerfull batteries for controllers or engines (NiCD, NiMh, LiPo). I have a range of these batteries of different capacities and some of them have the same size but different power (eg: a 750mAh has the same size as a 2200 one). Of course, the ones that are more powerful are not cheap, but it's money well spent.
I'm not saying that the ugly looking "gold"battery which seems to be wrapped by a 5 years old kid has 2430mAh, but it worths tested. I just want to put this battery on the ohmmetter to read it's values. Regarding the safety for my device, I used chinese batteries on other phones too (spv m3100, kaiser) and none exploded, got bigger or overheat; they do loose their capacity much faster but if you are on low budget a 10 bucks battery saves your as* for a couple of months.

No one is calling you stupid, but you do seem ill-informed.
Cell phones are not the same as hobbyist 3rd party suppliers. Batteries for rc devices are much more third party friendly than cell phones. What we're likely buying from these Chinese manufacturers are probably cast-off batteries that didn't make it through quality control.
Sometimes you get lucky, sometimes you don't.

I wish people would just give up trying to find a higher capacity battery which is of the same size. If it was that easy wouldn't you think HTC and ALL major phone manufacturers with their vast resources wouln't want the same thing? A few mm less in dimensions or a higher capacity battery can mean far better sales (millions more).
From experience with tons of mobile phones and 3rd party batteries they have always come out worse 99.99% time. Most of them are cheaply made where they blatantly lie about there actual capacity, don't meet safety standards, can explode, can bulge, overheats etc.
How many more threads about these cheapo batteries quoted with much higher capacity that is pulled out of thin air.
Not to rant but if you want more juice I recommend you get the official HTC extended 2300mah or Mugem battery. I'm afraid you can't have a thin phone and more juice. end of

Been reading about the battery situation...

Okay, I have been reading about how there is supposedly NO WAY you can change out the stock battery inside the case with a larger one. I understand that is so, but WHY exactly can you not solder in a new, larger unit instead please? Is there some sort of firmware that will only support the stock battery or is it another kind of issue?
Can anyone please explain it to me? I have advanced skills for soldering, so I can handle pretty much anything barring a motherboard issue...
Its a kernel issue. The battery is controlled by a custom driver.

I see, that is disappointing. Has anyone tried to tackle this? I'm guessing a resounding "NO". heh
I'm not positive that you couldn't use a larger capacity battery but it probably would be physically larger and probably wouldn't fit.
Not Li-Ion battery but I have replaced a 3800mAh battery with a 5000mAh with no problem at all. This was a Ni-MH battery but a Li-Ion battery charging is a far simpler than a Ni-MH. I was able to install a larger capacity battery cheaper then an OEM. I've been doing this for years.
As far as I can tell, there is plenty of room for a larger battery inside the unit, the main problem seems to be getting it to work, yet I cannot find a single instance of ANYONE actually trying to put one in...
Are you quite sure it could be that easy? I really like this little tablet, but two things bother me: The battery life -SUCKS- and I don't like carrying external batteries with me.
As it is now I can get it fully booted and online in under a minute and all that is needed is to keep it running for more than a few hours and I will be very happy. (Well, until we get a finished version of ICS I won't be really really happy, but LOL)

As it is now I can get it fully booted and online in under a minute and all that is needed is to keep it running for more than a few hours and I will be very happy. (Well, until we get a finished version of ICS I won't be really really happy, but LOL)

Why bother with ICS, when CM10.1 (Android 4.2.1) is more complete, better performance and battery life?
Also, look into your wifi sleep policy settings, this has a huge impact on battery usage when in standby.

The algorithm for charging a Li-Ion cell is simple. It won't matter what the capacity of the cell is but the charging rate is something that you can't change so it'll take longer to charge.
I have a automotive scope that uses 1600 mAh 7.2V Ni-MH pack stuck inside the unit. A PITA to change, it had standard RC type connectors so I installed a extender to go outside the unit. The OEM packs use "AA" cells but I had a 7.2V pack built using 5000 mAh sub "C" cells which I Velcro to the case. I could have used "D" cells which are up to 12000 mAh now but it would have way too bulky. I normally charge the packs on an external charger for speed although I do have it charge with the unit at times.
