Hi , i'm running juwe rom on my galaxy i9000 , i've set it to its highest setting , everything looks great , i'm very happy with the way it looks , nice and sharp , lots of extra info on the screen with less need to scroll around
BUT does higher dpi setting come at a cost to the battery ?

force your CPU to lower rate can reduce Power Consumption , e.g. 400MHZ is ok
turn off google sync and background sync , turn off wifi when not used
kill apps not in use
dim your screen
use the latest kernel, then ur android will last till battery is empty

thanks to @fajarep
Use the Neopeek's Android Ports ,it is a different way of intalling android and the battery works perfect!
more tips are welcome
how long you will get if you lower cpu clock???

a little longer as it is 400mhz . my friend says 200mhz is good ,but so slow
too bad the kernel doesn't have complete iptables modules, i need to have that. currently i'm using my own kernel..
the CyanogenMod 6.1 is wonderful , and much battery saving
I have seen pretty many ROMs here, but am unable to make out which ROM is best optimized keeping battery life in mind. Could anyone please help suggest me a ROM or two that give the most of the battery life. Please.
You could take any ROM that will work with a kernel supporting OC/UV (like Setiron's) and use Xan's voltage app to limit the top speed of the CPU to something less than stock (1ghz is stock, your choices would be 800, 400, 200, 100)
Then apply an undervolt as low as you can go while still being stable.
This will of course result in a slower device, but that's the tradeoff. Less speed for more battery life.
Do note that the screen is the largest user of power by far and thus you can make the most difference by keeping the backlight as low as tolerable and shut it off whenever you aren't actively using it.

Thanks Da_G. I did use SetCPU, and set the speed to 800, but for some reason it is giving me lower battery life compared to without SetCPU. So took it out.
Also, I have my screen brightness turned all the way down with auto set to off.
I meant to ask for a ROM that has all the battery hogging stuff in it removed/optimized.
I am currently like 45% left after about 8 hours with moderate usage. Trying to see if I can stretch more than this.
My today's usage statistics:
1. 11 hours 25 min 4 secs since unplugged
2. Battery remaining: 63%
3. Voice calls: 1h 10m 15s
4. Display: 1h 15m 42s
5. 2 gmail accounts with push turned on with about 10 mails delivered today
6. google voice with push all time with about 100-120 messages delivered using push
a. I do not have SetCPU.
b. I have my brightness set to 0, with auto-brightness turned off.
c. I used SamServMode to turn on EDGE, and 3G turned off since the phone was off charging hook. In short, on EDGE all the time.
d. Static but nice, colored wall paper.
Could anyone suggest me if this is good enough. And any ROM that could get me battery atleast on par with what I am getting.
A few of my ideas:
1. Use a dark colored theme. Our nice SUPER AMOLED screens don't use up much power to draw black - so the more black - the merrier.
2. Be careful of what extra apps running. Things like widget locker are one more app to run. Go slender. Theme's are okay if they replace files like frameworkres.apk but if they run in background (see it under processes) then that's bad.
3. Be extra careful of making sure you are fully charged when you flash. This means, charge, turn off, charge, turn on, charge, flash. I get a little more charge when I go back to eclair stock .
also note that 95% of battery is the screen
Everything else that was said before me was spot on so try that too.

Thank you kind sir. I shall do this. But I am not flashing anymore.
I loaded the AOSP ROM from Spaceman here
Code:

and am getting pretty much the battery backup I was getting with stock.
Thanks a bunch everyone who helped me on this.
Seems brightness may have a lot to do with battery life here, so I was wondering what level folks have theirs set at and how much difference it makes. Looks like just moving it down between the esses in 'brightness' from the default level made a difference for me and I'm wondering where others have it set.

On the stock ROM I use it just a smidge above the lowest level for indoors, it's plenty bright. Outside I push it up obviously.
Got a widget that shows the percentages, and I'm at 5%.
Hey guys
Recently just got a optimus black and started playing games more, before i had a HTC dream and Magic was able to get 2 days of battery but atm, I'm getting like 4 hours battery playing **** what are the best settings on nova to get the most battery.

+ are there any apps that really help?, using juice defender just with the balanced setting any advanced settings that improve this?
Mainly 2 things consume battery:
a) CPU ~ 15%
b) Screen ~ 80%
For a) you can decrease it by using a good governor for battery, ex: InteractiveX.
For b) it's a matter of having it on the lowest possible brightness you can handle. *
* For example, automatic brightness indoors (low) != minimum brightness, it actually consumes twice the power. Twice.

Thanks for the reply, yeah don't really change brightness so i will do that from now on, also auto uv and underclocking i am going to have a play around with.
Our SoC is already underclocked with SmartReflex.
Further UV won't do much difference.
Oh to easy then.
I bought this phone bcoz of LG advertisment :"NOVA Display automatically adjusts its brightness sensing the amount of light needed, and saves 50% energy under regular settings." (compared to regular LCD). What is the selling point for tat? LG Optimus Black eating battery damn horrible. We like LG Optimus Black including the super-bright NOVA display (LG so proud of it), then why should i need to adjust the bright to lower to save my battery? What's the point???
The point is:
- If you want the brightest screen, and to use a lot the phone with the screen on, it will drain your battery a lot.
Regards.
With CM it's possible to calibrate the auto-brightness values.
I'll try to come up with a good configuration.
Heya all, happy new year to everyone.
I've got a request for someone skilled in the way of the mod. Or even just explain how to do it and I'll have a go myself.
I love my Z1 but I'd quite like the Cpu temperature in the notifications. I've tried 3rd party apps but they all look a bit 'added on' so my question is this
...
How do I get (or is there a mod for) the Cpu temperature to display alongside the battery % in the TOP RIGHT of the screen.
I'm running rooted and UB. 290 Fw with Doomlords kernel.
