Another option would be to download AdFree from the marketplace. It will allow you to revert to the original host file and then back to the blocking host file.

I am a noob when it comes to cell phone hacks. All i want to do is install flash 10.1 onto my Samsung Captivate(ATT). But everytime i try to install the apk file it say I cant install non-market apps. Does anyone know a quick and easy way to do so? Or have a video that can help me? A friend recommend me to this site because its suppose to be the best. Please help me. I am running android 2.1 (Eclair). Thanks.
here is the link for enabling the non-market app:

I believe Flash is only supported by Android 2.2 and above, maybe I am wrong.

Don't mean to sound rude, but please learn to use 'search'. This has been answered numerous times.
Common term used for this procedure: side loading apps
Adobe Flash 10.1? It's in the Market.
Here's a video that shows how to sideload apps: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4axv2jXBR-M
You can use my program here to sideload apps. Just press install app on the right side and choose the apk file on your computer.
Mod, please close thread. ferls, please consult http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=919816
I looked in the maket and I could not find flash 10.1. What do you search for to find it???

you can use your desktop browser, go to market.android.com, then search for "flash player", then install from there.

Did you do a master clear when you flashed to stock?
After i flashed to stock i flashed to stock i did not do a master clear i just rooted it again. But when i try to restore the apps it says i need to check the box to allow third party apps. Well obviously the captivate doesn't have that option

1. there is a video
2. launch the application and it will ALL be clear.....there is a BUTTON that says 'Allow Non Market Apps'
if you would bother to actually try to use the app you would have seen that....there was a reason we were pointing you to that application. 2 seconds of having it open and you would have seen it.
You could also try the thread here:

This has worked for some (me included) where others have failed. You just have to keep trying to find the solution that will work for you. I used to have to find these programs before I finally took the plunge and installed a custom Rom, the devs take care of all of that for you. In case you're interested, Andromeda3 works great!

mirrors are just more servers hosting the same file... a mirror of the other host so you can get the file from more than one location

Going to root my Tab... have a few questions though.

Hello All,
I've long been a lurker but I decided to join today for some help. I've also decided I'd like to root my Tab.
One of the things I want to root it for is the Wireless Tether app. I just wanted to ask anyone that uses it to verify it works and if there are any special steps to make it work. I intend to use Z4Root then get Wireless Tether from Market.
I'm also considering overclocking, any App suggestions for that? I'd also like to know if anyone has any custom ROM suggestions.
Thanks for tolerating my newbishness and for the replies.

It would help to know what tab ur using considering there are like 5 different types.
Sent from my GT-P1000 using Tapatalk
That's true. Sprint CDMA Samsung Galaxy Tab, SPH-P100. Not too sure what other information would behelpful.
Sent from my SPH-P100 using XDA App
I haven't used tethering, but am pretty n00b to Tab root. I rooted my Sprint SGT using oneclickroot, and it worked great, but haven't done much else. I plan on setting up CWM, and flashing my first Rom today, to prep for the HC port. Since I was planning on it anyways, I can let you know what I do, and what the outcome is... there are plenty of existing threads for that though... I'll test wireless tethering, and let you know!
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
Thanks Phil, I'd appreciate you testing Wireless Tether on there before flashing it if you're willing to. I don't really have plans to run a Custom ROM at the moment (except maybe the HC port when spacemoose finishes it), but I do want to know if WT will work.
Z4Root no longer works for the sprint tab. You will need to use superoneclick to root. To overclock you can get SGS Kernel Flasher from the market. I am using Bauxite's kernel and love it.
I just got a tab today (t-mobile version). I already own a vibrant (running bionix). Which ROM is the best for the tab....especially to speed it up?
You can only temp root (and permanent root) your device using Visionary application. I've tested it and working as expected.
Why would you want to root the device is it to just put a better rom on it? I assuem you could also put the Honeycomb rom on it as well right?
Maybe use another flasher instead of SGS?
It might be just my case, but all the times I used SGS it has borked my Verizon Tab. Not sure if Sprint is the same way. I was able to recover to a default state by using the Verizon orginal restore files and Odin.

If it bricked your tab were you able to send it back to Verizon and get it fixed? How does that work? If you can't tell I am new here trying to figure out which tablet to get and how to fix it when things WILL go wrong on my first root.

Sorry wrong choice of words, I meant to put borked. Bricked means not being able to bring it back. In my cases I was able to bring it back to default by the Yellow screen download mode. I will correct my post.

Doesn't always fix the problem...
I'll attach the vending.apk from my S5570 on 2.3.4... You might wanna try that!
And if that doesn't work... There might be another solution... Just follow these steps:
1. Download attachment, put it on the root of your SD-card. (Not in a folder, but on top!)
2. Power down your phone.
3. Enter recovery mode by holding Home+Power-buttons at the same time.
4. Use volume buttons to select apply update from SD-card.
5. Select the zip file, and pick it by pressing home button.
6. Select 'yes, apply update', confirm with home button. Wait for it to get done, reboot... and try if market works...
still not working
market has disappeared because of rooting
now when i browse the manage application
i still see market feedback agent
and market updater....

Anyways, out of the point .. Why need a Market app
You can always download/install from market.android.com website, and it will auto-install it inside your Phone. Nowadays I'm following this method, as the Market v3.3.11 is laggy on Galaxy Mini !!
You know that this needs the market app? It won't work without it...

Hmm, didn't know about that.
Btw, how about finding the app's apk, and installing it manually ?
Yeah, for market app: not that simple...
For other apk's: that means a lot more work.... Kinda sux... Have a tablet without market...
Sent from my Samsung Galaxy Mini using XDA-Premium.
Hmm, I didn't know Market app had these much importance. Anyways if I'm in a similar situation as the TS, I would think of re-flashing the firmware. Actually I'm least concerned about my installed apps.
Many apps provide back up features for apps
Sent from my Samsung Galaxy Mini using XDA-Premium.
Yes, I know. Once I tried backing up Angry Bird's save progress, the save progress got backed up, but not the level scores. Lost all the scores achieved in levels.
Anyways I only uses limited apps, and some apps like Flixter Movies is not compatible with Mini, and it could never be found in the Market(app). So installing the apk manually would solve the problem
Why is this Guy freakin so much ????
Just flash the stock firmware and read all steps carefully .

help rooting Verizon Tab

i picked up a used first generation(7" SCH-I800) VZW Galaxy Tab on Craigslist a couple weeks ago and have had a series of problems while trying to root it or even connect it to my computer.
im looking for Verizon specific instructions if anyone can make that happen.
i have a Windows 7 64bit PC and every time i try to install the drivers it fails. i do NOT have the Kies option in the USB connect menu in settings, only Media Play and Mass Storage. i downloaded Kies from Samsung website and installed it, and again the driver failed to install properly.
i know theres a bunch of people out there with rooted/rom'd Verizon branded Tabs. i'd love to figure out how you guys are doing it.
any help would be greatly appreciated.
nothing? nobody here has a rooted Verizon Tab?
I've got the same tab. Been trying to root it for weeks. Z4 wont work, superoneclick hangs and the tab turns off but only goes into standby and doesnt really get rooted. I would deff make a donation to anyone who can help, I cant wait to get rid of all the verizon bloatware on this thing!
