hello all,
relatively new to the forum.
last couple of days i've been looking for a guide to installing CM7 on my O2X.
I failed! I can't find even one guide with a-z instructions.
please, can anyone point me to a guide?
I did read quite a lot and got 2 conclusions:
1. It scares the **** out of me
2. It needs rooting which i've already done day-1 using SuperOneClick 1.8
plz help me,
Eitan
1. Download ROM manager from market
2. Open ROM manager, install ClockworkMod Recovery
3. In ROM manager, Download ROM -> CyanogenMod -> pick your ROM
4. When your download are finished, choose "Backup" and "Wipe Dalvik-cache", press install
5. Thats it

Be sure to be rooted first
Don't forget in this method
1. You will loose EVERYTHING on the phone including the internal partition where mediabis located...
2. You cannot download Tom using the above meantioned way unless you've have premium rom manager
If you don't have premium version just download the update.zip and do install from SD
Hope I helped I am also playing around with this latelly I got the phone 2 weeks ago

Wow i didn't realise it was this easy either!
Couple of qs
If i do a backup before doing this through cwm can i just restore to that at any point?
Also if i download and place on my sd can i use this method for the modaco vanilla rom?
Will this also update the bb as well?
Have to say love having an android phone because of you guys here!

Yes, the whole ide of cvm are just that
Yep, works with almost all .zip roms and patches (if you store them on extrenal SD, there is an other cvm for internal sd)
No, your bb will not be updated

Warranty question
I'm aware that rooting voids your warranty. However, does anyone know if unrooting will make your phone look normal, and thus, applicable for the warranty?
can always install original rom at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1035041 using smartflash.
Note: all data in internal SD will be erased. Hence unroot phone.

Backup and wipe in Rom manager after you picked your downloaded rom.
So open rom manager, select "install ROM from sd card", find your downloaded zip file (on external sd), select backup and wipe from the popup menu, install.
Your phone are going to reboot into recovery and install your zip automaticly. When its finished, it going to reboot again but this time you should see Cm7 bootscreen
DONE!

Can I ask two (potentially) stupid questions?
Say I want to use vorkkernel with the ext4 option:
1. Is ext4 considered stable enough for every day use?
2. How would I go about this? Format my internal storage to ext4, flash CM7 on, and then flash vorkkernel on with the appropriate flags?
Thanks.
Just flash the kernel, it will convert /system & /data to EXT4.
There is no going back to EXT3 afterwards though, you have to wipe everything to do that.
~HELP~ i followed the steps in beginning of post. CWM did its stuff ending with a CM7 installation. First boot of CM7 started and repeats endlessly.
How can I proceed?

[FIXED] ok, if this happens to any of you what I did to fix is:
1. shut the phone off by removing battery.
2. boot into recovery by pressing volume down and then while holding pressing power up.
3. in recovery: wipe dalvik cache, wipe cache & wipe data
4. in recovery: install from zip on sd card i chose the cm7 installation again.
(it can be found in clockworkrecovery foleder and inside in cyanogenmod folder
hope this helps.
Just one more thing... if, say, you install CM7 do I understand correctly that all apps bought before wiping everything will be lost and would have to buy tumor again??
Thanks for the help

Right so I had this fantastic idea to install this : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1102720
I booted into CWM, wiped cache, wiped dalvik cache, then installed the zip from SD card. ->> Rebooted phone and infinite boot loop.
Decided to try another kernel, to see if it did anything, used this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1029799 (eternity)
Now it gets past the white "LG" logo, and the color logo comes up, but freezes and then reboots again.
I have tried using standard kernel but it's the same affair.. I did back up my ROM before I did this, if I restore the ROM will that fix the loops?
Thanks.
Try restoring, if that doesn't work, use NVflash.

New issue, I have my old ROM backed up, the file name is 2011-10-05.zip etc, but when I go to "Install zip from SD card" and select it, it says "Finding update package, opening update package, installing update, installation aborted".
Now I know I'm probably doing this wrong, but if I don't use Install ZIP from SD card, then what else do I do?
When I go to "Backup and restore" it tells me "Couldn't open directory, no files found".
Thanks for your help so far btw.
Edit: reinstalled STOCK 2.3.4 GB ROM, and all my files are still intact, programs etc. Seems to be working fine now.. My kernel is 2.6.32.9, is that stock?

Hey guy, there are different launchers to personalize your apps. I prefer the Apex launcher which offers a lots of customizations.
Themes and gadgets are available in the playstore just look for them some gadgets from cm9 running in cm10 as well.
But you have to try the different cm10 Roms by yourself, because every Rom have other nice features. I tried the most of them and Helly Bean from der Teufel should be the best Rom for customization in my opinion.
Task manager only available in a few beta Roms because touch wize from Samsung isn't fully ported (stable).
You need to install a search app like OI file (its free) which is similar to my files on old Roms.

Can you give me a tutorial for "THe best ROM" "Helly Bean from der Teufel" ,for my SGS?
Okay:
1) your phone should be rooted. If not, follow this step
Search for darky's Resurrection package and follow the instructions from there.
2) search and download the latest cm9 nightly (just use xda search) and put it on your internal sd card (via usb)
3) grab the latest release from Helly Bean Rom from the xda thread (development thread) and put it next to the cm9 nightly on your internal sd card.
4) reboot into recovery (voll up + main button + power button or choose recovery via in the powemenu if the phone is running)
BEFORE FOLLOW THE NEXT STEP BE SURE TO HAVE A NANDROID BACKUP OR TITANIUM APP BACKUP!
Do all wipes:
Factory reset
Wipe caxhe
Go advanced and wipe dalvik cache
flash the downloaded cm9 nightly
After install and reboot, go back to recovery and do all 3 wipes again. Now flash the latest Helly Bean Rom. Wait for reboot, maybe pull out the battery if the first flash let your phone go into a boot loop. Try to enter the recovery menu via 3 button combo and flash the Helly Bean Rom again. After reboot all should be working fine.
Hope you'll get all of the steps right in your mind. But be carefully. Flashing on your own risk and be sure to have backups of all your data and especially from the efs folder (without that folder your not able to get access in mobile networks anymore!)
Good luck and best regards

Hi,
I used CWM to backup stock rom(2.3.4), then I used CWM to try CM7.1 nightly. Now, I would like to go back to 2.3.4. I restored the backup rom. The step i took was:
full wipe
format /system
install http://nigella.modaco.com/files/r2-backtoext3-2x-unsigned.zip
restore backup rom
reboot
After that, I rebooted. There is bootloop. Just wonder if anyone know why and how to solve this? thanks in advance!
When you get back to stock lg from cm you must format all ext3 before restoring. Search for Dr4go tools.

Thanks for your reply.
I tried to use r2-backtoext3-2x-unsigned.zip to restore it.
Can you tell me the correct procedure?
1. enter CWM mode.
2. install r2-backtoext3-2x-unsigned.zip
3. full wipe
4. format /system (i think i dont need this step, right??)
5. restore 2.3.4 backup
6. reboot
Is this correct?
Maybe i should try to use Dr4go instead ofr2- backtoext3-2x-unsigned? thanks
Very simple:
1. Cwm install ext3 zip file from Dr4go
2. Cwm restore your stock backup
3. Restart
Edit: this is the link to Dr4go tools

Get the "old" file which means for the old bootloader.

The bootloader is the first program which starts the phone (or any computer), ext3 and ext4 are different data mgmt systems.
Your case is old bootloader, the new bootloader was introduced by LG with ICS roms. But this is another story.

It is just name of the ROM, and the developer writes you clearly in the first blue field, in the first text line:
Android Base CM10.1.3. RC1 JellyBean
JellyBean is not ICS (ICS is 4.0.x) so you need Gapps for CM10.1x / Android 4.2.x
CyanogenMod 9 is based on ICS

This isn't meant to be flashed via Odin.
Download the rom + addons + gapps + CM9 (you don't need CM9 gapps). You can download the rom + addons from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2075058
1.) Backup everything you need to- call logs, SMS, bookmarks, etc with Titanium or other methods of your choice
2.) Reboot into recovery. Perform the three wipe combo (data, cache, Dalvik)
3.) Flash CM9. You'll probably have to flash it twice- once for the kernel, another time for the rom. Let it boot.
4.) Once CM9 has booted, check that you still have reception.
5.) Reboot into recovery again and do the wipe combo. This time choose to flash the base rom. You'll need to flash it three times- once due to the incompatible partition (first flash overcomes this), another time for the kernel, a third time for the rom.
6.) Once the base rom's finished flashing, reboot. Check you still have your IMEI- you'll know if you still have reception.
7.) Reboot to recovery, flash addons (flash Addons then Addons_V1)
8.) Reboot
9.) Back to recovery (AGAIN), flash gapps.
Unfortunately a one-time flash with Odin isn't possible. But the endless flashes you have to do for RemICS V6 is well worth it

thx for your reply and apologies for getting back to you late.
If only i could do it the way you suggested but for some reason (me) i have messed the phone so that it now no longer is able to mount the external SDCard so putting the relevent zip files on the ext card is useless because in recovery mode using CWM these files fail to show.
I note that via CWM it shows the card as unmounted. If i try and do a mount it fails.
any ideas?

What about your internal storage?
Sent from my GT-P7510 using Tapatalk HD
Here is where my noob-ness kicks in.
What internal storage is available by default on the Note1? Is it just the internal sdcard?
what puzzled me when I last flashed with odin (repeated it a number of times as I was trying to get the device to recognise ext sd card) to get the current Darky Extreme rom on (which is working fine no problem at all) is that there was still some relic directory structure left over. These were all empty folders visible when navigating within CWM. Didn't matter what type of formatting I did they wouldn't go. To summarise: much confusion and something got twisted.
So questions arising are:
-How to nuke the internal disk/card properly so there are no remnants prior to me doing another darky reinstall?
-Then, how to copy a zip file to internal card but still have it remain after the format and wipes that would precede a zip install?
-How to fix the device to mount the ext sdcard? FYI other sdcards can't be mounted either. I have tried 4 different ones. And here's the kicker-once booted I go to file manager and there I can see and access all the files/folders on the external card!!! So it's definitely a phone problem as opposed to a sdcard problem. Something got flagged along the line.

Hey guys,
I was running CM 10.1.3 and decided to go to Slim Bean 2.1. I followed the instructions, but when I rebooted instead of a clean install, I had all my old apps. Naturally, I went back to recovery and wiped everything again including sdcard and flashed Slim again (from external sd card). However, when I rebooted, again I had everything - old apps, music, photos... As you might imagine after this dirty flash the phone is quite laggy. Please tell me how to make recovery properly wipe the old data.
Any help is appreciated

What recovery are you running? I am going to assume CWM v6.0.3.1...
From main menu;-
Wipe Data/factory rest
Wipe cache partition
From Mounts and Storage menu;-
Format /system
Format /cache
Format /data
Format /sd-card
From Advanced manue;-
Wipe dalvik cache
Now install.
You assume correctly. I had already done that, but I did it again in the order that you described. No difference, I still get all my app, my wallpaper, and all my accounts are still logged on. That is strange. Is there another way to wipe the phone?

Very strange as that is the exact process I always follow to install a new ROM.

Yes, it's very strange. I have done that before, but never with such results. I think I might have to resort to a kdz flash of stock rom, but I'll wait a bit to see if someone comes up with a solution. Nevertheless, I will have to find a solution, because after the last several dirty flashes one on top of the other the phone does not work as it should. It is very laggy and with an even higher battery drain (which was the initial reason for a clean install).

I have to admit that I would look at doing a KDZ reflash to get everything back clean, then CWM and reinstall of the ROM.

actually, try flashing with lg flashtool (dz+dll), it's supposed to format your internal storage as well, while kdz flasher doesnt afaik. good luck. strange problem indeed

too late now to go back to format and reinstall rom. just go in data/app delete everything in there. also in data/dalvic-cache. then if u know from system apps which ones u dont want , go delete them and then find their dalvic-cache in /cache/dalvic-cache.
then go delete from sdcard the folder android. then from sdcard delete every zero and empty folder. last one delete all data/data and reboot. nothing should be left from previous rom. now if u have more leftovers in data/media/obb or data/media/legacy, delete. (dont delete the legacy in storage/emulated...!). about the problem u had. did u choose wipe and selected manually to wipe all those or u chose to format all data ? there must be a choice to format everything. ( dont do it now it will delete everything ). if that doesnt work then fix permissions.
Somehow after several attempts it worked and wiped everything. I am not sure, however, if it works consistently.

I will certainly do that, but I have never used flashtool so far (kdz flasher, as well for that matter), So I just do not have the time to experiment right now, just in case if anything goes wrong. But I will certainly want to try a stock rom again.

I would try that, but in the clockworkmod site 6.0.3.1 is listed as the most recent version for our device.

Thank you for the detailed explanation! I will hold off from using it for now, but if recovery misbehaves again I will use it.

How is Any Kernel related to the version of CWM Recovery? Otherwise, I am using the Anykernel version of OP 2.7.
