hello I was wondering if there is a way I could turn off the 4 g on my lg revolution I know that you can for the thunderbolt is it possible for this phone?
Sent from my VS910 4G using XDA Premium App
Yes, you can turn off 4G.
Menu Button>Settings>Wireless & Networks>Mobile Networks>System select>Network Mode>Click CDMA only.
It will reboot your phone, but this is how it is done on the LG Revolution.
There is an app you can download called the LTE Switch which bypasses some of these steps to make it easier and quicker.
Turn off Mobile, keep Wifi
If you want to turn of mobile data but keep wifi without rebooting your phone, I found Power Control Plus from the Android Market works well for this. Just by pressing the "3G" button it does shut off LTE and 3G but will allow Wifi traffic and calls. I think you can find it for free elsewhere, but I opted to pay $1.99 because I couldn't find anything else that would work.. not even Widgetsoid2x did the trick.

Dataswitch is good. Wish that separate app for just enabling data and another separate app just for disabling data

Hey all,
Dumb question here but first android phone so need your help.
I only have 500mb of data allowance with vodafone UK and just recently got a text from them saying im near my limit for the month.
Being at home with the phone I use an app called quick settings to disable mobile data and then enable wifi.
But just used network monitor app and it says that I've not used any wifi.
Can anyone help with what Im doing wrong as dont want to go over the allowance. Coming from a BB never had this issue as they ZERO apps worth downloading
Cheers
I use Network Counter.
If you want to know how much different programs waste, you can look at TrafficStats.

Thanks will give both a go. My worrying thing is android market doesnt seem to use the wifi when downloading even with mobile data disabled.
Maybe your wifi sleep policy is wrong, go to settings - network & wireless and go to wifi/wireless settings and tap lower left touch button at bottom of phone and select advanced once in that menu you should see wifi sleep policy select that and set it to never, it means the wifi is always on even when phone is locked. Hope this helps.

@stelo81
Thanks for the 2 programs suggested. Seems network monitor didn't show anything correctly.
With wifi on and data disabled your 2 suggestions show wifi kicking in.
Just gotta remember to switch on before downloading!!!
Thanks again
I mentioned this on the general discussion page but figured it needed to be in development. Can someone make an app to cycle airplane mode when phone loses data connection. Maybe have it check every hour or some similar interval. This would be a great work around for the data connection problems the Droid has. Just an idea guy. I'm tired of missing texts and emails. Thoughts?

You could just use something like Tasker to do it
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using Tapatalk
There is the airplane mode toggle
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using xda premium
I'm talking about a solution to the data loss problems so many bionics are having, including mine. If a program would cycle/toggle airplane mode automatically when the phone loses data it would prevent me from missing so many emails and texts. Can tasker toggle automatically with days loss? Don't want to drop 7 much bucks if it can't.
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using XDA App
Tasker can do just about anything if you program it correctly.. You could set it to ping out somehow perhaps and if no response then cycle airplane mode.
I am not sure you can do that as i only use it to change things based on my location or time. It's just a thought. I'll check through the options in a min
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using Tapatalk
The simplest thing you could do is have it cycle airplane mode on screen off or locking but not if it has been done within the past 30min..
Another way if you have unlimited texting you could have it text yourself every X amount of minutes and if it wasn't received within Y minutes it would cycle airplane. You could then have it delete that text so you wouldn't have just random texts from yourself.
It does appear that you could have it ping out, although im not entirely sure on many of the stuff in Tasker. It can get sort of complicated the more difficult the task you're attempting to accomplish.
If you're having the problem enough for it to be real bad though you may want to call verizon because mine only needed to be toggled through airplane once when i first got it and i think that was a wifi issue to begin with.

Yeah there is not a quick toggle yet. You can turn it off or on by going to:
Settings > Wireless & Networks > Mobile Networks > Network Mode
Set to CDMA/LTE when you want LTE... CDMA Only when not in LTE Zones...
But yeah that is a tedious process... a toggle would be great.

Just as an FYI you don't need unlimited texting to do this. You are on the Verizon network, therefore it's free to text yourself and others on the network.
Good point didn't think of that

AutomateIT from the market can do a bunch of stuff it might help not sure though
I use extended controls.
It's on the market and has a toggle for almost everything.
It's always updating as well.
The data toggle for it takes you to network settings and the gps toggle takes you to gps settings.
I highly recommend this app.

Are you sure that you do not have your phone set to "battery saver"? Because that setting turns off your data after the screen in off for 15 minutes. The data does not turn back on until you turn on your screen and takes a few seconds to do do.

I do not use the battery saver profile, but my phone drops data once in a while.
What I've done is set up a Tasker task - not a whole profile - to toggle Airplane Mode on, wait 5 seconds, and then back off. I then created a shortcut to that task on my home screen by long-pressing, selecting widgets, selecting Task, and selecting the task I created. This isn't a perfect solution, but it works for me.
Here you go, Enjoy.
App on market called Restart Connections... its free and with the click of a button restarts all data connections.

i also wondered why there is no direct option to turn off 3g from drop down notifications? i switch constantly and it is frustrating not to have it while some do
the apps you can get from market dont do it directly - they just take you to the settings page which then you have to further click twice
however my friend who had an s2 with orange network in the uk which had this option in the drop down wheras the s2 with tmobile didnt - confused
I'd recommend Widgetsoid for all your toggling needs. It's free and
provides all the toggles you might ever need.
Press and hold the power button, it brings it up on the menu right there.
Simples!

As someone else has said, press and hold the power button....and the 3g toggle comes up. Also, there are 3g toggle widgets that don't take you to the settings screen, I have one....it turns 3g on or off right from my home screen.

I understanding is that when you off data network , 3G data also off right ?
Try Data Enabler widget for switching data on or off.

Am turning N1 into WiFi only music device. Device will have no SIM. Is there a way to completely disable cell radio permanently?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Call *#*#4636#*#*, tap "Phone information" and (nearly at the bottom) tap the "Turn off radio" button.
I think I have seen someone making a rom that is only music, no call function..

If there will be no sim card, no need to worry because you won't get charged or no data from your provider will be used
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk HD
Even without a SIM, the radio would still connect to a cell to allow for emergency calls. Which still drains the battery. The OP wants the cell radio off (while keeping wifi) as aeroplane mode turns off ALL radios.

On any Android device I have, if you remove the SIM and then do nothing else, the device runs the battery down fast trying to obtain a full, ongoing mobile voice connection.
This app allows you to specify what does/does not run when you invoke Airplane mode. Hence you could theoretically use Airplane mode to turn off mobile functions and leave wifi and bluetooth untouched:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...1bGwsMSwxLDEsIm5ldC5jZW5rYWx0aS5haXJwbGFuZSJd
Let us know if this works for you.
There is another app that does the same thing (modify airplane mode), but it has better ratings, and seems to be a bit more user-friendly.
It is called "Plane Mode Tweaker" by "Chislon Chow" (Can't post links due to new user...)

I disabled the GSM radio using the codes earlier in this thread. This seemed to do the trick and allowed me to turn off the cellular radio. I will monitor battery life, but this seemed like a good approach.
I would've simply used a Tasker script to turn on airplane mode on boot, then turn on wifi. If I didn't want tasker, I'd export it as a tiny app with app factory.
I have a bookmark for a flashable zip, but of course I can't post a link yet since I just registered. So if you google [MOD]Any phone, any ROM: Wi-Fi only mode (disable cell radio) you'll find it on rootzwiki
What it does:
Removes unnecessary apps (Messaging.apk, Phone.apk, TelephonyProvider.apk, Mms.apk, TelocationProvider.apk)
Completely turns off cell radio on bootup
Installs the radiooptions binary in case your ROM does not include it
Prevents emergency calls and 911 calls (good for giving your kids your old phone to play with)

Id call att for now and see what they say...
Toggle Airplane Mode. Works for me. I have the same issue.
airplane doesn't works all times.. i prefer suspend the phone for a few seconds..
Are you using any smart actions that affect your data connection? I had the same problem before I realized that the phone automatically turned off data when connected to WiFi. I had set up a smart action to do it as well, which I think confused the device and wouldn't connect to 4G. I had to factory reset to fix it. Left smart actions out of the loop, and haven't had a problem since.
Deep rooted in the mAtrix HD...
http://android-gz.com
Yea i tried the airplane mode and nothing. I had smart actions on but then i turned them off and still have yhe problems. I think im just going to factory reset and see if it fixes the problem. The problem usually happens when im at school where in my classes i get no reception. And after class i get the bars but still wont get data and then i restart my phone and then i get the flood of notifications.

This is exactly what happens to me..
could also be lte problems... as att deploys new towers and works on em sometimes you'll have problems for no reason... which is why i would try to call att or do a factory reset, is all i can think of

I will have to disagree with you, once setup properly the smart actions are great. Never had a single issue with connectivity.
