i've paired a few things (bt headset, parrot car hands free, computer) but it won't automatically connect to anything. i have to manually tell it to connect. is there a setting that i'm overlooking, or a tweak to allow this?
thanks.
Yeah I noticed the same thing in the car today. Maybe because of whether it is discoverable or not? When you turn that on it only does 120secs. I haven't played with it, but i sure hope it can auto connect, or at least with froyo.
It auto-connects to my car, but not to my home phone. I think that's because the car itself initializes the connection... Would be nice to figure out how to fix this, so I wouldn't have to connect manually every time I come home.

In my 10' BMW, I had to check mark to always allow the car to access my contacts. Once I did that, it would automatically connect to my car upon startup of the car.
Hope that helps.

in my '10 Genesis Coupe, I cannot get it to auto connect, even though i reset it two times and checked "always allow." This is the first phone this has ever happened with, every other one auto connected (HTC Touch Pro2 with winmo 6.5 AND a hacked android 2.0, htc hero w/ 2.0 and 2.1, n1 w/ 2.1 and 2.2, and a feature samsung phone) so I know its not the car.
Any more ideas?
What I figured out is that auto-connect on this phone just doesn't seem to work at all. The only time it auto-connects is to my 06 Acura when I start it and only if it's not already connected to anything else. But that's because when I start my car, it's the car that initiates a connection, not the phone. If I'm connected to something else (like my home phone, for example), when I start my car, and drive off, Bluetooth connection to my home phone will get dropped after I get away for more than 100 feet, but it will never connect to my car after that. And it never connects to my home phone on it's own. Very painful!:-(
My Captivate will automatically connect to my Parrot hands free device when I get into the car. I don't know which device is pushing the connection. However, I also have a Miccus BluBridge Receiver in my car plugged into the Aux jack. This device doesn't auto connect.
To get things working I have to go to the home screen, settings, wireless, blue tooth, then click on the device. A friend of mine was talking about Tasker as a possible app to use, but I don't really want to spend the money on it until I know it will do what I want. The other annoyance I have is that speaker, headset, and bluetooth volume are all the same. It looked like Tasker would solve my second problem, but perhaps not my first. Has anyone else investigated this?
Bluetooth auto connect
I too thought I had an issue with this. Mine is now working OK most of the time. One thing I discovered is that if there is more than one BT device available the phone sometimes will not connect automatically.
I wonder if this has to do with the fact that it will not connect to more than one device at a time. This is big downside for me that I hope get corrected (but please GPS first)
It won't conect correctly because there is no setting for always visible. The handsfree device searches for your phone to initiate the conection and if it can't see it it won't try to conect.

I also have a Genesis Coupe 2010 (3.8 in case you care) and my vibrant connects just as well as my TouchPro2 and my Nexus One running Foyo.
The Nexus One stock 2.1 never worked, reconnecting every couple of minutes.
My first Vibrant (same as captivate) did not work well either. I expected it was because the BT stack in Eclair did not support car profile, but after I exchanged my Vibrant due to a rattling volume key, it has worked very reliably with the GC'10. It autoconnects ad soon as I turn on the engine, without having to do anythong, followed by "transfer complete".
I leave BT on all the time. My phone is not rooted or modifief in any way, running stock software for everything.

That is not true and it is not necessary, not even during pairing, ad the connection is initiated by the phone. Once passkeys are echanged, visibility is not required.

What firmware do you have on your GC? Have you deleted all phones?
Things to try:
Delete all phones from the car (setup/delete all phones)
Restore the phone to factory settings.
Upgrade the car's radio/BT firmware (see dealership for details or try gencoupe.com)
Call ATT support (?)
Wait for froyo
Get used to
Return/sell the phone
Hope this helps

I am a tech for mercedes and we have to set the phone to always visible or it wont auto connect. It is the same way with pioneer bt radios. I am just speaking from what mercedes told us and personal experience with pairing phones. I have had the problem probobly 100 plus times at work where phones wont auto connect evan though they are paired corectly and when you change the phone to always visible it fixes it every time. I know the phone can initiate the conection, i just know they don't all do it automatically.

Never had the problem with any of the Pioneer radios we've had, and my Eclipse doesn't have that problem either. To be fair, I've no experience with MB cars, but that shouldn't be the case.
I know with my Eclipse HU, I had to initiate the connection while in the phone menu otherwise it would connect for BT audio but not for the phone. After setting up the phone it will connect as its supposed to regardless of what input I'm using.
just as an update to my initial problem... my parrot system in my car auto pairs all the time now (it just takes ~30-45 sec to do so), but the phone still will not auto pair to bt headset or computer...
I don't think its supposed to auto connect to the computer. I think its a need based connection.
And on that note, when i send a file my phone does connect. I don't use a dedicated bt headset so i can't talk about that unfortunately.

When you say 30~45 sec, does it mean from powering the car up until BT is usable through the car system? That's is normal and the duration depends on how many contacts you have in your phone book and how many phones per contact. Mine take about the same.

I agree. It is only supposed to autoconnect to devices that support the handfree profiles, if the handfree profile is set as default.
I tired turning visible on right before i started the car and it connected no problem. Really annoying. I have a pioneer as well. Too bad you can't set it to visible always. Other than that it works much better than it did with the Fuze/Any WinMo phone. Never had a phone that worked right in the car, except for my GF IPhone, works great.
I hope it works better in Froyo.
I picked up a SGT from Verizon and am having trouble with bluetooth. It won't pair with either a Jabra or Motorola brand headset. I can get it to pair with my Apple Bluetooth keyboard, but it won't connect. It just says "Paired", but does not function. I'm using Skype and GV on this and would love to be able to use a bluetooth headset. Is this unique to the Verizon model? Has anyone else had better luck with a T-Mobile model?
Thanks!
Apparently vzw left the bluetooth HID out (unlike tmo). So the vzw tab can pair with keyboards and mice, but cannot connect to them. There are hid drivers in the market, but I haven't tried any yet. I have a bt keyboard on order. I tried a mouse,it paired fine but wouldn't connect. There have been many reports of this.
BT headsets haven't had any issues that I have heard. My moto s9hd paired and connected the first time and has been ready whenever I have needed it.
r
I have the T-Mo version and I can connect and pair BUT...
Audio from the other person plays through the BT headset and your voice is via the Tab's microphone... I put the Tab in another room and made a call and all the other person could hear was the TV in the other room.. Once I walked back and picked up the Tab they could hear me...
TMO Profiles?
I have a Sprint Tab and it pairs but refuses to connect. I'm wondering if there's some way to extract the TMO drivers from the device, and stick them elsewhere. Also, I don't know a lot about the bluetooth driver architecture. What exactly is it missing? The kernel drivers for it? Or some other thing?
I had the same trouble with my Jawbone and Think Outside stowaway keyboard.
I called Verizon about this and the tech told me they had no profile for headsets or HID. They have stereo headphone support for music.
Very disappointing that they would do extra work to remove functionality, but I'm certain a good rom will become available that fixes this Verizon blunder.

What I'm reading is that Android doesn't actually support BT HID in this release. I'm still wondering if it could be extracted from TMO or some of the European releases and pushed with ADB.
The other thing I'm wondering is about CyanogenMod. They've had an experimental bluetooth HID thing that's been working decently, or so say the posts, for a few months now. I'm wondering if it's a high enough level of abstraction that it could just be put variously on any device, as long as the processor architecture was the same (or is it up in the java level so that doesn't even matter?)
I know nothing, to be honest, but wanted to just advance a few questions. Not sure how many people are actually interested in BT HID, but for me, it's a dealbreaker for whether or not I hand this device back in.
I've had the same problems with my Verizon SGT. Verizon apparently deleted some Bluetooth drivers. Why? I don't know. This is the only problem I have come across with my tab. If anyone knows of a driver that will connect Bluetooth devices to the SGT please reply. I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks
Hi guys,
I am having problems with car BlueTooth hands free and Samsung Galaxy S:
With Eclair 2.1 it was working flawlesly, connected automaticlay after paired, I could make phonecals, receive phonecals, no quality issue, phonebook worked fine etc... The only problem was that once I did not swithced the BT on my SGS before starting to drive, for some security reasons the car was not searching for phones while driving, so I had to turn the BT in car off and on again and then it connected well. But overal problem free...
With latest 2.2 Froyo (i9000xfjp7) and also previous Froyo distributions (i tried JPA if I remember correctly), the phone can be paired, it connects to the car but after one phonecall it looses connection and works no more. The strange thing is, the BT icon on the phone shows brackets (like when connected) and also the car shows the phone is still connected. But phonecalls cannot be made via car HF and also cannot be received through it. Only by manualy accepting or dialing on the phone. And naturally the sound goes only via the phone, no HF.
The strange thing is, when I turn off the car and leave it, the phone says it is still connected to it, which is impossible.
Any ideas?
Thank you!

That is weird... When I switch back to Eclair, it works OK, back to Froyo, no HF after one phonecall...
I dont know how to work with ROMs, I managed to find out how to flash firmwares, I even handled many problems with Odin and its moods, incomplete flashes, etc... But I dont know how to use these custom ROMs...
Anyway, i would appreciate if someone told me how to resolve it without custom ROMs, as I plan to use offical Froyo when it becomes available, but with this issue, it is useless for me, as I travel a lot...
No one else?
I'm having a related problem.
I'm getting music stream cut outs (1 sec max) when streaming bluetooth to caraudio WHILE wifi on.
If i disable wifi, bluetoothaudio works fine. I know they share range bt/wifi, but this is unacceptable. They should negotiate. Everytime wifi scans, i get cutouts. Unusable. Only workaround is disabling wifi (and thats annoying because i have to be constantly activating/disabling it everytime i enter somewhere with wifi etc.
Using Docrom xxjpo v8 with voodoo.
Anyone has some software fix that makes wifi behave better when bluetooth musictream on?
I'm using a Samsung HM3500 bluetooth headset which also has a A2DP stereo option with my AT&T Galaxy Tab. Whenever I play music through the bluetooth, the music will pause for a split second while I am doing other things on the tab such as loading web pages, opening menus, going back to home, etc. It just seems to cut out when I am doing things that use a little bit of CPU power. When idle it mostly works, with only a few cut outs every few minutes or so.
I have flashed gingerbread and my modem to use it as a phone. Do you guys think this is an OS issue or an issue with my BT headset? Thanks
I use bluetooth headsets alot and i had this issue from overcome beta (first gingerbread release) to 2.0.0 gold. Didn't have it with froyo before and don't have it anymore since overcome 2.0.1.
Thanks, I may have to try flashing Overcome.
If you disable wifi the issue should go away. I know some people were able to decrease the frequency of the breaks in audio by changing the interval at which it searches for wifi locations, but I don't recall. This is a very common issue which has been seen on android and windows mobile devices alike.
I don't think thats the issue I have. I only have wifi turned on when I'm at home and while at the office. During my morning/evening commute (train to subway to bus) is when I use my bluetooth headphones the most, and wifi is switched off. I never got to try it with Froyo because I flashed Gingerbread as soon as I got my Tab last weekend. I will try flashing overcome tonight, hopefully it solves the issues. Thanks
Hi,
I bought a Bluetooth Car Stereo. I've paired it and it pairs fine. When I connect it, it works great and IF I leave BT permanently on, it automatically connects when I sit in the car. If I disable bluetooth to conserve battery, upon re-enabling it, it DOES NOT automatically connect. Instead, I have to go Settings, Wireless, Bluetooth and press Connect manually.
Is there no way of making my phone automatically scan or check or whatever? I'm pretty sure my old Nokia could connect automatically, in fact I'll test now!
Thanks,
Joe
Anyone? Perhaps an app you can recommend?
Bluetooth Autoconnect (by WestOneTech) ... but it's not free ...
Okay. I flashed MIUI MintBerry Edition, and guess what? It allows automatic reconnecting on bluetooth enable. So I know for a fact this isn't some android limitation and it's definitely a setting or config of some sort in SGS firmware.
There has to be a way in which this can be fixed on a stock rooted ROM.
Any help would be smashing!
That happens to me with my samsung gt-s5560 witch is a rather crappy phone. I need to manually tell the phone to connect with my car, even if it's paired and set to auto permit.
On my SGS with ICS EliteRom 1.2, however, it works perfectly. Connects automatically whenever i have bluetooth on (either if it was on before being in range or if i connect while i'm in range).
Bluetooth works as handsfree for calls - from the car interface the phone allows to take and place calls, browse through recent and lost calls, phonebook (it even downloads it) and it even streams music to my car's speakers (using Google Music) with no additional configs.
It connects rather fast, like 3 or 4 seconds after turning BT on.
Exactly Kayn and that is why I can't understand why the stock room doesn't do this and more to the point why nobody has raised this issue before. I like the stock ROM. I genuinely do. I find it intuitive. So why can't it automatically connect to my car stereo when Bluetooth is switched on. This custom ROM has no problem doing it. I simply switch on Bluetooth and boom it connects. I need that functionality on the stock ROM if possible
Im going to flash the newest value pack tomorrow and see if that helps but I doubt it will. I genuinely believe this is an issue with the stock ROM. The only thing that might have caused it if the stock ROM does support it, is if I've removed something using TiBa but I very much doubt it. I didn't touch any core system components.
Haven't flashed the latest value pack but I've worked out how to make it work. Ridiculous on Samsungs part and I think they need to get their heads out of their arses and sort it.
If I activate Bluetooth before I turn on my car stereo, then it picks it up perfectly.
So if I turn on my car stereo and then switch on bluetooth... doesn't work.
If I turn on bluetooth then switch on my car stereo... works fine.
Absolute joke on Samsungs part that this glitch is the only way I can get it to work. I'll keep investigating and I'll eventually write a guide to help people with it.

Makes us both but i can't really cope with the battery drainage when the phone's plugged during several hours (i use loads of battery intensive like torrent-downloading apps, radio streaming, etc and the phone needs to be plugged) so i had to make the change for some custom non-samsung based rom.
Samsung has loads of this minor quirks that make the experience that much less enjoyable. I only found solution in custom roms (very thankful to the devs for that!). Don't think they ever really cared about solving some under-the-hood issues (they did add some new features though) and even went as far as to pull the "flawed by design" apple-move.
I would still tell you to give a shot at customs, some out there are really good, but i can understand not wanting to change something we really like.
Good luck with that mate!
It's not that I don't like custom ROMs, I love custom ROMs but unfortunately, none of them have the Samsung Browser and let's be honest, everyone knows the best Android browser is the stock Samsung one. The browser that came with MIUI was very choppy and laggy.
I get decent battery life out of my stock ROM, but if I had to leave BT on permanently this would go down a lot! I suppose i just need to remember that as I get into my car, turn on BT and it'll connect first time.
Just crap that other Custom ROMs can search on enable and connect. Worst still, I can't believe we're the only ones who have this issue.
I never thought samsung browser was something that good, i hardly even see it being mentioned. I never really used it much since i have not used sammy's roms since ginger bread came out, but have you tried opera mobile? This is, by far, the best browser I've used, it's not even fair to compare - it's on a totally different league. I was actually losing hope of decent browsing (tried just about anything) on Android until i came across opera. Needs to be the mobile and not the mini. Faith in Android browsing restored
if you haven't, give it a shot, free on market. If that's the main reason not to use a custom rom, you may be changing your mind soon
