Why does my captivate ring when i power it up. Its not a notification of any sort and i don't even have the ringtone in my ringtone libary.
The ring is a continous office tone ring and dosn't stop for about a couple of minutes.
I was wondering the same thing. Are your running the official ATT 2.2? I was and it started ringing like that after I got whatever patch or update it was that ATT sent out that allows the Amazon Appstore to work. I thought it was probably a part of that update. It went away for me after I flashed over to a custom ROM.
Yea I'm running the official 2.2. I was thinking about flashing to a different ROM but im too scared to do it. I just got the phone a month ago.
I noticed the same ring tone thing happening sometimes when I rebooted. It was really annoying. It only started happening after I did the Kies update to 2.2 Froyo. Quickly got rid of Froyo and flashed 2.3 Gingerbread stock rom and do not have that problem anymore.

So I updated to Cognition's 2.2, and all is well except every few seconds it will start vibrating like I have a text or e-mail. I don't have any texts or e-mails and I have service, so I am not sure what the issue is. Anyone having the same sort of thing happening? Thanks in advance.
Also noticed that I can't get to silent mode. It will go to vibrate mode, but I remember in 2.1 there was Vibrate and Silent. Only vibrate in 2.2? Weird.
Edited again: And while in Settings, the back button doesn't work. Awesome. If anyone has a fix for this let me know, or else I'm probably going to master clear, go back to stock and try and start over ;\
Not sure if these are FC's.... anyone?
I can tell you that someone in the DEV thread on the COG 2.2 build did say that was due to FCs. But that was close to the end (as of a few min ago) and there was no resolution that I read.
I had this problem with One Click Lag fix and email FC's that made my phone constantly vibrate. Once I disabled OCLF, the problem went away.
My device makes no sounds anymore. It did this after a day of having 2.4, stopped, then started working just before I went to flash 2.4.1 with the hope of fixing the issue because I kind of need sound.
All Volume sliders are up, sliding them plays nothing, Silent or Vibrate mode is off. When selecting a notification it does not play, alarms do not play, just go off silently..., Media such as songs a movies have no sound. Tried rebooting and everything.
After flashing 2.4.1 the issue was apparent right away.
Hopefully DG saw my posts and is aware of the issue.
Anybody have any idea on how to make sound work?
I had this problem with ringtones so I flashed back to stock, master cleared, and flashed again. So far it seems to be working.

When I flashed to 2.4.1 I GSM MAster Cleared, went back to stock, rooted, CW'd, and then flashed 2.4.1 and I had never done that before and was hoping it would help. I guess I can always try again.
Hello XDA Members,
I have an odd issue on my hands.
Description:
I get a call, from either a landline or cellphone, the ringtone plays just fine. After I end the call, the ringtone then plays again on its own. There is no way to silence it or get rid of it. The phone is fully responsive, I can open apps, and use it normally aside from my ringtone playing in the background until it reaches the end of the song.
My question to you guys, has anyone ever experienced this, and if so how did you resolve it?
NOTES:
Running stock AT&T ROM with the latest update and Voodoo lagfix. Never flashed any other ROM's.
My wife is using the impression and sometimes her text message notification does the same thing, plays after reading text restart fixes for a while but it always comes back, I havent seen this on my captivate or read of it happening to any others. maybe a master clear?
I too have had it happen with text message notifications, I am using Handcent.
I'm thinking a master clear may resolve the issue because it seems software related, but I was hoping to do it without clearing things out. I was thinking some app, out of the hundred or so installed may have something to do with it.
If doing a master clear is the only resolution, I might as well just flash a new ROM, I already have everything I possibly could back up all backed up.
I have resolved this issue without a factory reset or flashing another ROM.
I was playing around with where the ringtone MP3 file was located and I had moved it into the phones internal storage. I moved it back out onto the root of the SD card and all seems to be ok. I cannot believe I didn't think to remove or move the file that was getting played after a call.
have a Captivate that I recently flashed Di11i's 7.1.1 to, before that I had flashed my first ROM which was Serendipity 6.2. Both times I have found that I don't get incoming calls. People calling me get 2-3 rings, and then a traditional "busy signal" sound. On my end, either the phone vibrates once but the screen doesnt change from whatever screen I'm on. Or, The screen goes black like its going to the incoming call screen, but the black screens only flashes and goes away, as does a force close message box that goes away quickly without me clicking it.
Everything else on my phone works as far as I can tell, I've been running my current ROM for about 5 days without issues other than this one. This same exact problem also happened when I flashed Serendipity 6.2 (which I only kept for like a day because of this problem)
Try flashing to stock then master clear. Try flashing new rom after that.

What are you restoring after a flash
MIUI
Just after I power on my phone it makes a loud, annoying noise like: "beep-beep beep-beep beep-beep beep-beep"
It started when I set a custom ringtone and notification sound.
The only cause I can think of is that maybe the phone is trying to play my custom sounds files before they have been scanned by the media scanner, which is resulting in a system notification sound being played instead.
Is that likely to be the case?
My custom sounds are stored in: /mnt/sdcard/media/audio/notifications and /mnt/sdcard/media/audio/ringtones
Thanks.
Delete or move your custom sounds to test your theory .
No mention of firmware .

Sorry, I was sort of seeing if anyone had a similar problem first. Anyway:
Firmware: 2.2.1
Baseband: I9000XXJPY
Build: FROYO.XXJPY
(Not rooted)
I think I am meant to get Gingerbread any day now, and I plan to root after that - so maybe one of those will fix it.

What I noticed on mine is this only happens when there is a voice mail left when phone was off. I get this annoying, almost non-stop beeping when the phone boots up, and about the only way to stop it is too check notifications asap. I have no tone that sounds like this beeping, and have no clue why it does this on boot. I thought it was stock ROM issues, but I have flashed auxora and trigger 3.2, and get the same annoying beeping. It is only when there is a voice mail in the notifications, when booting up phone.
Thanks jman!
I had the same problem, hours of searching 'android boot alarm' and endless variations on google found nothing on this. I googled 'android beeping at boot', found this thread and you were 100% correct. I cleared my voicemail and no more beeps! Seems like an odd bug, anyone know a way to prevent this from happening any further? I was minutes away from a hard reset before I found your advice. Thanks!
Same here on I9000B Froyo 2.2 JPA
I hate this beep. Its so loud.
