Hey guys,
I've recently recovered from a problem using odin3
That problem involved restocking from cognition to froyo
I mistakenly tried restoring from 2.1 so the phone could not go on past galaxy logo and so I used odin3
Odin3 - Download mode - hit 'start' on odin3
I did not factory reset
From there when I got back to 2.1 exclair, I updated, rooted, used kernel to resolve signature issue when trying to go into CWM recovery. Then I restored using CWM. Backup was successful.
After the backup, I felt the phone being a bit slower than before. Then today the 'phone' became unresponsive. I could not call or even press buttons and when I tap on contact nothing would pop up but black screen. When I try to enable mobile data, it would fail to do so.
All of these issues are resolved for a while when I reboot my phone.
I am not sure why my captivate is having trouble with mobile stuff...
Any ideas?

Did you restore via titanium backup? I am guessing here but I would BET that some setting got carried over either via tibu or something left on the phone since you didn't factory reset. I would SUGGEST running tibu and backing up ALL your apps again. Then factory reset. Then reinstall by opening up market so that you have to sign back into your Google account. Then go to market and reload any apps in your account via the market. Then make sure to also reinstall titanium backup. Then use the BATCH MODE and ONLY restore USER APPS and maybe USER APP and DATA. MAKE SURE NO SYSTEM APPS GET RESTORED.

Hey! That is exactly what I did!
I first downgraded and then did factory reset
Moved titanium backup folder to computer and used them to restore only missing apps and data
My captivate is working great once again

Hi just flashed xmjg5 including the modem and csc included in the package and have placed samset 1.9f used titanium backup to restore apps and system data n now the phone keeps deciding to turn off when going into sleep mode and I have to use the 10 sec power button hold so it turns any help? Can it be because of apps? Or does it require re-flashing the firmware?

bad idea
don't restore everything back
you can try going into recovery mode
and select Wipe Data, then also Wipe Cache
if that doesn't work
reflash again with Odin3 then INSTALL the applications manually again. Fresh, no restore from titanium backup
because it will break the firmware settings.
Done now just testing to see if it stops thanks for the help m8

This was supposed to be a pm to espyel developer of paragon rom. Sorry if I misspelled name.
I can't seem to pm or post on developer section cause im new here and threes a 10 post rule. I have searched for the last month and im just stuck. I need help! I have only my captivate I internet with a barely usable weak signal so its been very frustrating. I have learned a lot from this great forum but I can't get my problem fixed still.
Here is my copy of the pm which never goes thru for some weird reason. I just need some guidance as I have probably not done this right all the way thru.
First of all I want to thank you for all your hard work on this rom. I love it! I am in need of some help and I have been researching for the past 3 weeks with no answers. Im pretty new to all this stuff but anyways let me tell you my status as of now. I rooted my phone and was able to install the 5.1 paragon rom which I like a lot. I lost some apps due to tb not able to restore my quickoffice and other important apps. My problem is I can't seem to flash back to anything other than the paragon 5.1 install date. I have the rom manager flashed to recover other dates like when the phone was still stock version but nothing else works. It always fails! I tried installing the update rc6 and something is very wrong. After installed and rebooted phone stays on for nearly 5 minutes and reboots randomly also I try restoring apps and it doesn't work. Seems very laggy and I know from all the great reviews on the rc6 that its just me having this issue. Please help!!! What can I do from here to update my 5.1? My desktop just got fixed and I have no I internet yet other than my captivate which has real weak signals at my new house. I don't use the odin program you mention because of the desktop being down for over a month. Im limited to internet providers at the new house and I need to get it going soon. My captivate has been my internet portal for the last month and it sucks compared to my desktop not to mention poor signals here. I would like to tether my captivate to my desktop as well but have no clue on how to get it to work. I don't flash back to stock like you mention in your steps but I do delete data and cache and all. Like I said I love the work that you do and would love to donate soon. What can I do to enjoy the updates and full capabilities of this rom? Please help! Thanks in advance!
I would power phone off, hold volume up and down and power. When at&t comes up let go
Wipe cache partition
Go back
Advanced clockwork
Wipe davlik cache
Go back
Install zip from sd
Choose zip
Rc6
Flash
When done go back
Wipe both cache again
Factory reset
boot
See if that fixes it. Did you have oc settings saved at boot?
Odin would be nice though

I recommend using odin to flash back to stock and also do a master clear. After this you need to re-root, install rom manager, flash clockwork, reboot to recovery, and install rc6 from scratch. This method is recommended to avoid common issues. Good choice with paragon. Killer rom.

^^^ Thanks for the replies guys.
Good news is I got my desktop internet up temporarily using a wireless card and got a weak open signal.
Bad news is I am still lost! What Odin do I need and where can I download it from?
I tried searching and only found the odin3 but I'm hesitant to proceed with anything without getting some more info. What version do I need for my windows computer? 32 or 64 bit?
I have the SDK Manager on my desktop as well but still have no clue what to do with it or how to use it. I'm still looking into that.
Also, how can I get my phone to tether my desktop and get internet signal?
Is RC6 a full rom or just an update?
If I flash back to stock and reinstall RC6 would I need RC5.1 first then the RC6 update?

start>>run...type msinfo32.exe and enter...a window will come..click system summary..see system type on right hand side....x86 means 32 bits and x64 means 64 bits....So download Odin3 one click version for whatever version u have...its pretty simple...just download and start Odin...then put ur phone is download mode and plug the USB in the phone..if everything is right, u will see COM in Odin in yellow color...just click start and wait till it reboots
Also check the Odin for your phone...there is one for JH7 and one for Jh6....

you cant tether in stock 2.1(which u will get after using ODIn), but if u root ur phone use wireless tether 2.0.7 app
if u r still on paragon then go to settings>>wireless and network>> USB tethering...or wireless tethering...samsung has inbuilt settings for that in 2.2
I can walk u through odin steps pm me if u like I can also send you the correct odin to use

Now I need to try and install RC6 update again using odin3 to flash back to stock. I hope it works with no issues!
Just so I'm on the right track.... Odin3 is the right odin program that I use right?
I don't know what jh7 or jh6 is. How do I check for this?

Rc6 should have a full rom version, I do not recall if there was a no wipe. Make sure you have the full wipe rom if flashing from stock

if you already have paragon rc 6 just simply do factory reset back-up your apps with the included titanium back-up, wipe dalvik cache and wipe battery stats from cwm recovery menu then reboot your phone. I doubt if you have tweak the over clocking/ voltage apps and not resetting it back to factory default when updating to rc 6 this may cause some issues. if you can open your oc/voltage control app in the menu simply remove boot setting, reset all the voltage slider to 0 and limit overclocking to 1000 mhz then apply, after that do tibu, factory reset, wipe dalvik cache and battery stats then reboot.

You know I did mean to mention this!!!
I did adjust my voltage and saved them. I remember running a quad test result of 1454. I never did remove the boot though! Maybe that's all that it was not able to flash to stock and rc6 not functioning right!!!
Thanks I'll give this a try.
So I used odin3 to flash back to stock 2.1 eclair.
Now I can't root my phone anymore!
Usb drivers are not picking up the device and I can't use desktop to transfer root files. I tried downloading some root zips to my phone but it doesn't except the downloads. I can't flash using clockwork because I am not rooted now.
I can't get adb to work even though I follow each step by step of the sdk download.
I'm in a worst situation now than before. Any help would be appreciated!!!

paragon rc 6 is already pre rooted you don't need to root your phone when installing paragon rc 6 just download the full room and the update zip and paste/copy it into your internal sd card. try installing samsung kies mini in your computer it will also install the corresponding driver. once your computer running odin recognizes your phone do a master clear. to do this just enable debugging mode but don't turn off your phone your phone will then reboot itself after the process. install the update zip first with cwm you have to do it twice. first the 3 button combo recovery it is a blue one the default in eclair then install update zip http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=490798&d=1295155828 once you have install it it will be back again to recovery mode and now a green color now install again the full rom of paragon rc6 http://xda.deanhatescoffee.com/roms/paragon-rc6-full.zip then wait for the phone to reboot.
I just wanted to give a BIG thanks to oxlong27.
You saved me big time from bricking my phone and loosing all data or worst.
They need a counter next to the thanks button! Haha!
I appreciate you going out the way and guiding me step by step over the phone, email, and text. I love my phone more than ever now!!! Everything works great and I'm lovin' the di11ligaf rom. Thanks a bunch bro!!! I didn't think this forum had members like you but I was wrong. Thanks to everybody else who replied with suggestions too!
Hey everyone, so it's high time i get off stock 2.1 JH7 and onto some decent ROMs (Firefly in this case, i heard it's good and doesn't drain the battery as much. Used Cognition 2.3b7 before)
First of all, the phone works fine under normal conditions as a USB mass storage device.
So I'm following the normal procedure for rooting the phone (this is my replacement phone), So i downloaded the drivers again (x64) and installed them, downloaded dotNet 4.0 fix and installed, put my phone into USB debugging mode, and hook up the phone...
So i get to the device driver installation screen and I get the following:
SAMSUNG Android USB Composite device Ready to use
CDC Abstract Control Module Installing device software
USB Media Storage Device Failed
S3C6410 Android ADB Installing device software
Now the first phone had no problems, why the USB Media Storage Device failed i have no idea... am I supposed to mount it in USB debugging?
The other two things being installed stay in a constant loop and never actually install for some reason.
Am I doing something wrong? Following this order
1) Downloaded and installed 64 bit drivers (Win 7 Pro x64)
2) Installed dotNet 4.0 fix
3) Put phone in USB debugging
4) Run one-click root...
Should I just root the phone manually? I want to be able to use one-click root to unroot the phone when i need to.
Thanks for the time and consideration guys
Interesting, tried it on my laptop ( Vista HP 32bit) and had no issues.... I wonder what's wrong with my desktop...
The 64 bit drivers are kind of screwy. I had flashed countless roms and one day my computer, win 7 64 bit, just decides to not recognize my phone in download mode tried all versions of odin and then uninstalling drivers rebooting and reinstalling them no dice nothing would get it recognized in download mode, finally had to restore my system, luckily I make a restore point about once a week, and that did the trick.
Well, just going to use my laptop to play with my phone then I prefer my desktop though, but since it works, why not
Oh quick question. From stock JH7, should I be using Odin3 to revert my phone to JF6 or am I ok to proceed? I know that from my previous phone i updated to JH7 before installing cognition 2.3b7. Would it be safer to just flash JF6? Thanks.

Jh7 is still 2.1 right? It has a 2e recovery? If so then you are good. If you try to flash and you get a signing error then its a 3e recovery and flashing to jf6 will fix that.
I had thos problem the moment i flashed my phone... I had to down load the application from samsung website. The regular drivers stop working. Then i was able to put cog from win64 to my phone.
Also the name of the driver is like serial com somethng. It allows odin to properly connect.

Yea, recovery says 2e. I'm not going to bother using my desktop if my laptop works fine. Anyways just bought Ti backup pro, and backing up my apps now before I put my new rom on (cog or firefly). I updated superuser by accident, don't think there should be too many issues.
Yes I'm new with most of this. Use backup of user apps and system data? Then what should I backup, since I'm trying to avoid all bloatware? Then when putting it back on, use restore the same? Or just apps?

If you want to get rid of the bloat, you will have to go through and unselect all the garbage you don't need/want when running the batch backup. After flashing "restore missing apps and data" restoring system data causes problems, you can restore individual system things like wifi access points, and contacts storage (or any green system data)
Hope that wasn't too scatter brained I'm kinda stoned.
(I said before I was new to TiBackup and Android rooting for that matter)
Anyways, what I was looking for was to just back up the apps that have extensive settings/game progress and wifi stuff.
Looking at the batch list, it gets a bit confusing as to what process does what...
It's safe to uncheck all the red ones right? Then I get the green processes that I have no idea what they specifically do.

Ok, then choose backup user apps, and after that runs, hit the backup/restore button at the top in the middle and choose the green system settings you want, you probably just want the wifi access points and [sms/mms/apn] dialer storage (that's all your texts and phone log data)
After flash is the same as I said before.
Yes! Thank you so much!
Firefly here I come
Oh last question. Should I need to save the titanium backup folder first to my computer before putting my new ROM on?

You don't HAVE to, but just to be safe I copy the whole sdcard took my pc. Never had an issue where I lost any data but I don't ever want to and be s.o.l.
Oh and before you restore, st the bottom left of titanium backup there Is a button that says "problems?" Hit that and install busybox.
Last but not least enjoy firefly, it's my favorite.
Yup, everything is now backed up.
Went into ClockworkMod (ROM Manager), booted into ClockworkMod recovery mode to make a backup and I get....
Android Recovery 2e
Only options are to reboot, install packages, delete data, etc
What happened to ClockworkMod recovery.... so I can make a backup of my ROM? By allowing ROM Manager to make a backup i get the same screen.
I've already Flashed ClockworkMod Recovery (Version 2.5.1.2)
Oh I already did the busybox installation on Ti-Backup.
______
If this helps, I deleted the update.zip that was in the internal SD card. I assumed this was put there by the One click root. Perhaps that was in error?
______
Yup, just saw that by reflashing CWM it put another update.zip in the card. Loaded that twice and now am in CWM Recovery good to go
And finally, starts the long process of waiting for the phone to get to 100% battery before putting the ROM on
Hey there,
I've got this SGS I9000 of a friend and tried to install a different ROM,
I already did it many times to other GS, though this one seems to be a tough one to crack.
For starters, He did not have the download mode, I've fixed it and placed the files on the SD of the phone.
Then I failed the root through Z4 and SOC, so I did it through Odin.
I got into the recovery (after made it 2e and not 3e), did the root and since then the phone won't got through the "Galaxy S GT-I9000 Samsung" screen.
Enters Download Mode, Enters Recovery, Nothing else.
I already did the factory and cache wipe, still nothing new.
I looked over through all the guides with nothing new, I let the phone "rest" on the screen I've mentioned above, not for 10 minutes, for 8 hours. Still, no cigar.
Any suggestions?
Just go to download mode connect it to pc and flash it via odin

Do you mean flash in the new rom?
Though after I rooted the device it still won't start up, and I havnt backed up the efs yet (through SGS TB).
Is it safe to skip that stage and flashing the rom directly?
I wanted to make sure after I did all the resets the phone still working and all the things I've placed on the SD are still there, and that the settings I've made were still the same.
If i was on your place i would flash it. It is not working so you don't have much to loose except apps, messages and contacts if they are on the phone.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium App
Thats just it, I dont care of contacts messages etc. I already backed em up through KIES.
(Which is closed if I forgot to mention).
The problem is I don't want to lose any important information (thats why I'm eager to backup the efs and check if the root through the recovery worked.)
After I wiped to factory reset wasnt it supposed to start up? (Which I remember from other GS that happened?)
But if you have wiped your device all data is already lost.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium App
so how do I know if the root worked? The efs Data still supposed to be there (since I realized it's on the SD, and data on SD was not wiped after I saw all the files I placed there still there.)
Any more offers? Anyone?
Pretty Urgent..
Hi,
I am trying to update my Samsung Galaxy S to Android 2.3 through Kies... Everything goes on smoothly but when the phone enters the download mode (Download Mode, Do not turn off the target), it hangs over there. And moreover, Kies shows that Phone is not responding try rebooting.
once i remove the battery and restart the phone, it works normally.
Any ideas on how should i proceed? The phone is not rooted and its OTA update.
Also, would like to mention that Kies is not able to take the backup of contacts. It says exception occurred and continues with download of the firmware.
Please help... Thanks
Guru
Just forget Kies.
Kill all Kies-tasks and use Odin for flashing. But don't forget to backup your data first!

As Lunchbox115 said, update your OS through Odin or Heimdall and just backup your contacts with export option (it creates .vcf file on your sd card).
You can also sync your contacts worh Google.
