Hello All,
I've long been a lurker but I decided to join today for some help. I've also decided I'd like to root my Tab.
One of the things I want to root it for is the Wireless Tether app. I just wanted to ask anyone that uses it to verify it works and if there are any special steps to make it work. I intend to use Z4Root then get Wireless Tether from Market.
I'm also considering overclocking, any App suggestions for that? I'd also like to know if anyone has any custom ROM suggestions.
Thanks for tolerating my newbishness and for the replies.

It would help to know what tab ur using considering there are like 5 different types.

That's true. Sprint CDMA Samsung Galaxy Tab, SPH-P100. Not too sure what other information would behelpful.

I haven't used tethering, but am pretty n00b to Tab root. I rooted my Sprint SGT using oneclickroot, and it worked great, but haven't done much else. I plan on setting up CWM, and flashing my first Rom today, to prep for the HC port. Since I was planning on it anyways, I can let you know what I do, and what the outcome is... there are plenty of existing threads for that though... I'll test wireless tethering, and let you know!

Thanks Phil, I'd appreciate you testing Wireless Tether on there before flashing it if you're willing to. I don't really have plans to run a Custom ROM at the moment (except maybe the HC port when spacemoose finishes it), but I do want to know if WT will work.
Z4Root no longer works for the sprint tab. You will need to use superoneclick to root. To overclock you can get SGS Kernel Flasher from the market. I am using Bauxite's kernel and love it.
I just got a tab today (t-mobile version). I already own a vibrant (running bionix). Which ROM is the best for the tab....especially to speed it up?
You can only temp root (and permanent root) your device using Visionary application. I've tested it and working as expected.
Why would you want to root the device is it to just put a better rom on it? I assuem you could also put the Honeycomb rom on it as well right?
Maybe use another flasher instead of SGS?
It might be just my case, but all the times I used SGS it has borked my Verizon Tab. Not sure if Sprint is the same way. I was able to recover to a default state by using the Verizon orginal restore files and Odin.

If it bricked your tab were you able to send it back to Verizon and get it fixed? How does that work? If you can't tell I am new here trying to figure out which tablet to get and how to fix it when things WILL go wrong on my first root.

Sorry wrong choice of words, I meant to put borked. Bricked means not being able to bring it back. In my cases I was able to bring it back to default by the Yellow screen download mode. I will correct my post.

Which kernel flasher did you ultimately find that worked with your Verizon Tab?

Just tried to update my atrix 3 times with no luck. Anyone else have issues updating a rooted, unlocked phone?
Now we need someone to pull the modem only from this.

I've tried the update 3 times as well. No luck. It seems to hang about 20% through the unpacking.
I'm rooted, have the telstra modem and did the webtop via hdmi. Any ideas on how to move to the update?

Ya..I tried this update yesterday OTA and had the same issues (I'm rooted and unlocked with webtop hack)..after about 20% I get the exclamation mark in the triangle telling me its failed. I was hoping to log on this morning and find the sbf ready to upload
I have the french SBF installed and greyblur/root. - I havent tried it, I doubt it will work on the french SBF. I really didn't realize how screwed we bell guys are without a factory SBF to work with. I feel like we get shafted out of all countries that got the atrix.
I just got my battery life issues sorted out, So even if i were able to try it, I wouldn't want to, But maybe there are useful fixes in it for the developers. We are getting custom roms for the ATT phones. Hopefully bell and international are soon.
I saw a post on motorola's forums from a guy who has a bell atrix that wants them to post a factory sbf for us so that we are "on par" with other countries around the world. i agree.
Should we stay on 2.1.1 and wait to flash the modem only or is this version better than 2.1.1
I hAve a bell atrix..

I am/was rooted and I was able to do the update. Just a bunch of fixes in it I guess. No major changes except for the faster upload. That's nice
You will have to re-root after installing it though. Gingerbreak works fine.
i installed the french sbf to get grey blur going so i'm guessing update won't work...

I'd like to know this as well.
I'm thinking of at least flashing the new radio after work today though. People seem to say it's better than the one shipped with 2.1.1. I'll keep checking these threads though to wait for more comments.
Thanks for sharing your comments and experiences, guys. It's always very much appreciated.
I Didn't say it wont work for the french SBF, I just haven't tried.
I'm at work right now and can't have my phone go down at all, or i'll get fired. Which is why im not just jumping in and testing it.
Can someone confirm if it works or not with the Telstra SBF? I'm not on stock sbf, im greyblurred. If it does work, i'll re-sbf this thing to 2.1.1, and run the bell update.
I think my issue is that i'm rooted/greyblurred. So unless is flash sbf, and then try, i doubt it will work here.
I tried to run this over the French SBF, but was unable to.

I took the Bell 37.23 update this morning.
My root was gone (I had originally rooted using GladRoot 4.3) and there was no longer any /osh/sbin/frozenfish.
I re-rooted my 37.23 using Gingerbreak 1.20 and it worked perfectly.
EDIT: just ran Speedtest.net mobile in downtown Montreal (great reception quality) and got 5737 kbps down and 2335 kbps up
Can I run the update even if i have froze all the bloatware? And will I have to re-freeze them after the update? ¸
I am kinda new to android but have a good experience in modding other mobile os (webos, wm5).
Thank you
quick question
i have french sbf
can i restore stock bell sbf to get this update
if yes where can i get stock bell sbf
but can't find an answer.... is it doable? Also, what other mods can I do to it? I wish XDA had a section for each version of the tab, I have a huge headache from trying to find my answer.... thanks guys
bump..... Please guys, help me out. I tried rooting last night but failed, guess I tried the root from a different tab... so please help me out... I'm getting ready to smash this thing

I just got a Galaxy Tab WiFi myself, but I did my research *before* I bought it. No Gingerbread is available, that I know of. There are not many alternative ROMs for the WiFi only model.
What did you use in your rooting attempt? The only two ways I know are with a Windows app or with z4root, an Android app. I haven't tried either one, here is a link to z4root on this forum.

No offense but if you're going to criticize you might as well not even comment to avoid any frustrations or arguments as a result. Thank you for the link, I was able to find z4 and lag fix yesterday.... applied both but i might roll back on the lag fix since I have no haptic feedback now unless anyone knows of a fix? I wasn't able to find anything on Google... wifi only tab and p1010 aren't too popular searches.

*sigh* waiting for this too..
****ty Samsung , is it so hard to just make an official Gb for this little tab considering the workforce they have at their disposal.
At one point I had heard that the Sprint stock GB (2.3.4) update worked on the Wifi only tabs, but I don't have a wifi only to test with.
I haven't heard of any alternative roms for the wifi only version.

Check with Kies, see if you have a firmware update. I only have a P1000, but maybe it's similar.

EDIT: from other answers here the Sprint GB 2.3.4 ROM stock or rooted sounds the way to go, so it looks like this should work for you as it did for me on my Verizon CDMA tab.
It's hard to say for sure, experimentation is part of the fun, but killing the tab isn't. I didn't find any definitive answers on flashing a Sprint CDMA ROM on to a Verizon CDMA Galaxy Tab (for example), so I decided to try for myself:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1255339
I suspect doing a FULL ROM flash would be a *very* bad idea (it seems doing that with a GSM ROM on other (non-GSM) tabs KILLS it). However, the technique I used was only to apply the kernel and filesystems, so I would *think* if you had a backup from before (always best to have a backup anyway, right?) you could always revert. You may want to look around and check to see if stock WIFI images are out there (I don't know for sure) but the Voodoo or CwM (ClockworkMod) recovery backups should be fine either way.
Then if you apply the filesystem and kernel files from 2.3.4 and they don't work you should be able to revert (I would assume, I can certainly flash back and forth on mine). I would *think* the kernel supports vanilla hardware + CDMA additionally (i.e. you don't need it, but it doesn't hurt), but may be fine.
But again, unless you're prepared to take the risk, I cannot say for sure, you can wait and see if anyone else chimes in, but that's my take.

I have the P1010 also and from what I've heard, the two models (P1010 and P1000) have different hardware which makes the latter model possible for the ginger update while ours likely will never get it.
Enjoy it for what it is. That's all I can say.

No offence but you are the one who was rude by bumping your topic after 2 hours and also accusing people who didnt answer as not courteous, so obviously you are going to get criticism.
Your problem is that you cant be bothered to go read or search and expect people to jump on your topic and bring all the info to you. This is XDA-developers, not tech support, try and at least help yourself first before demanding answers.
If anyone tests the spring gingerbread method and it works, please say so. xD Im too much of a coward to risk my tab.

You can save a flashable ROM in the sdcard. Then if the tab got bricked, you can insert the sdcard in and reflash again. But i don't recommend doing this because me myself never flashed my tab, only my nexus one.
Hi,
I have a Galaxy S GT-i9000 on Orange, UK. I've only had it a week because I bought it off my brother. I upgraded to ICS 4.0.3 and although it seems fine, there is no signal at all, EVER. Although it get's wireless Internet! And the SIM isn't damaged in any way, so it is definitely a software issue. The Internet is a bit strange, because it is coming from my network, not Wi-Fi (it's off, as is bluetooth).
I'm liking ICS, but obviously I need a signal. It was easy to upgrade, I just booted from the zip I placed in the bootloader. But I can't downgrade the same way. I've tried looking for old Gingerbread files, but can't find any! All the Depositfiles.com links are dead. So, ideally I would like to stick to ICS and find a signal fix, failing that I guess it's a downgrade that I need?
Or should I upgrade to Jellybean?
I couldn't find anything on people having similar problems with network loss, but I'm 99.99% certain it is the software causing the issue.
Thanks for reading.

I'm downloading DarkyROM now, but it's going to take 2 hours! Is this the right way to flash a modem? I've not done it before.
Hi
I had a similar problem on my old SGSI. I flashed an ics rom (don't remeber the name) and everything worked apart from the network so no phone calls and no internet apart from with Wifi. Anyway i googled the problem and tried loads of different solutions. After flashing more roms i ended up with the DarkyROM_v11.0_black_edition with the 3.0.17-semaphore_ics_1.2.5s kernel.
This didn't help either. In a last minute test at the end of what felt like the longest day in my life i checked to find that i had damaged one of the contact pins that read the sim card. I bent it back and everything has worked since then. And it's worked well!
Thanks, it was the modem needed flashing! Very simple too I also downgraded to Gingerbread which is faster.
Thanks everyone :cyclops:

Hi,
I bought a samsung exhibit II 4g from walmart last year. The phone was not very responsive for the past couple of months and hence I contacted T-Mobile customer support. They provided me the instructions to upgrade the firmware on my phone and I tried that with Samsung Kies. It is one of the worst software I have ever seen in my life. The firmware upgrade stalled at 3% and the only option I had was to take the battery out of the phone. Then when I turned on my phone, I got a message saying "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue". I tried to fix it samsung kies and it did not work. My phone was not working for 3 days when I was doing the research to fix it.
Finally, I followed the Exhibit Wiki on xda-developers (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2131576) and followed the ODIN method to install the custom ROM (I could see that it is the latest firmware for this phone). Everything worked on the third try, but Wi-Fi was not. When I clicked on Wi-Fi from settings, it displays "Error" under it. I tried Wi-Fi fixer, but it did not help.
I tried a factory reset and that did not help too.
Can some one help me? I need to get Wi-Fi working on my phone.
Thanks,
Balaji.

Hi,
I did the following things and now my wifi is working.
1. Installed custom rooted kernel t679-root-v1.8.zip.
2. Installed Root Uninstaller Pro by downloading the .apk from playstore and installed it.
3. Uninstalled some stock apps from the phone.
4. Installed CWM Recovery.
Tried turnin on Wi-Fi and now it works.
Thanks,
Balaji.
Glad to hear it is all working out now. Don't worry about root uninstaller. Chances are you will never need it. At least you got here before you managed bricking the phone from following other guides not meant for this phone.
Good luck and remember the only dumb question is the one not asked. Feel free to ask when you find you need advice or guidence. Someone will always be here to help.
