[Q] overclocking Rachts cm7 roms - XPERIA X8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've been wanting to overclock my phone for a while but i haven't found any answers for my question. i wanted to know whether i need to just push x8oc.ko or if i would have to do the whole thing? and would doing the whole thing mess up the dual touch module?

Just push it and ismod, then set OC in CM Settings under Performance thats for cm7 for cm 6 use set cpu.Done.

Look for the x8oc.ko/x10minioc.ko (that´s how it´s named in miniCM6, but it works on X8!) file in system/lib/modules.
If it´s not there, paste it there with Root Explorer/ES File Explorer (the newest one has a root mode)/ADB shell.
Then, write the required line (look for it in the OC-thread) on the beginning of the hw_config.sh file.
Rebbot.
After that, you can set the frequency with SetCPU or another similar app.
Or, if th efile is there, look for Overclocking in Settings-Cyanogenmod

Input Script into Startup

So I recently came across a script at Modaco Forums that allows me to light up the capacitive buttons while using the Desire Port. I was wondering if there was a way for me to implement that into the ROM without having to go to GScript everytime. I have Dsxdsi's ROM Kitchen installed so I'm thinking I could use that. I just don't know where the file would go.
I attached the file that contains the script. And this is the thread I got it from.
http://android.modaco.com/content/g...ble-capacitive-buttons-for-nexus-desire-roms/
add a shortcut to your homescreen directly to the script, voila.
though it would be nice to have this on bootup..
That's what I mean.
/system/etc/init.d/
Rename the script to have numbers in the beginning, or just link it in 20userinit.
Depending on what 20userinit you've got (system/etc/init.d/) some look to the sd card for a script called userinit.sh and executes it if it exists.
Load up userinit.sh on your sd card with whatever you like (using #!/system/bin.sh) and go wild. It's a great way to set everything up that you need... especially after you've just installed a new build (mine restores all my settings before I even get to the home screen - bliss). It runs in a root context so if you copy or create files or directories you'll need to chmod as necessary.
add a shortcut to your homescreen directly to the script, voila

Out of curiousity, how do you do that with a script? I use GScript but it doesn't work right with some of my scripts and would love to hear of any alternatives.

(Install RootExplorer and simple replace the bootanimation.zip, located in /Data/Local/

what means R/W. i dont understand. and if it allows me to replace it to another bootscreen zip if it will does that mean that i have success! does it_
i dont have rooted phone or anything, i just bought it from store my DHD. and its 1.32 version something with froyo.
R/W means Read / Write Access - Which is basically the ability to make changes.
You will need to root your phone to change the boot animation though.
Check the Desire HD Development section for some great guides on how it's done. Luckily you have 1.32 so you won't need to downgrade 1st. Just be sure to read everything 2 or 3 times so it's clear in your mind
I used this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=841076
Ask any questions about it in that thread to keep everything together.
if i use root explorer, do i have to root my phone? to change bootscreen?
heres the program to try it with! rootexplorer 2.10.apk
i do not have rooted phone, but is it possible via this program to change da bootscreen by simply replacing da file
Warez ? RootExplorer is a paid app, and u are sharing it!
You can install pretty much any app on your phone, but if it requires root access then the task you want it to perform will fail when the app requests root permissions. So Root Explorer might install and open ok, but you wont be able to do anything with.
Just go ahead root it, then you're free to do whatever you want. I just rooted a friends DHD today and it only took around 15-20 minutes, and most of that was waiting for it to back-up or reboot.
Also, you might want to remove the RootExplorer attachment, might get you into trouble from the mods

Is there any way of modding cpuinfo_max_freq without custom kernel?

Is there any possibility of modding /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/cpuinfo_max_freq without modding the kernel?
Just in case you don't know, cpuinfo_max_freq is the file that limits the maximum processor speed to 1000mhz.
cpuinfo_min_freq is the one that limits the minimum processor speed to 100mhz (i've no interest in modding that file).
I know i can acquire this with a custom kernel or by modding one myself, but i'd like to know if there's any way of doing this other than with a custom kernel.
Tried using root explorer and change permissions to write too apart from read and then modding, without success.
Tried changing permissions using root explorer and then using an init.d script
Tried a few more things, but so far none have worked.
Thanks
You did everything correct but one thing more open root explorer.
# Go to desire file (make sure you have it on rw)
# Now press and hold the file
# a menu will popup
# go to open in text editor and you can edit it
Enjoy
i have just tried it.. normally when i change any system file with text editor, i click on "save&exit" and it says it is saved and the original file is named as xxxxxxx.bak..
but this time there is no .bak file and the original file is not changing.. i write 1200000 but when i try to open it again it turns back into 1000000 ...

Tried that too. Root explorer says it's modded it but if you open it again, no change has been applied
Apparently, it's read only even after changing permissions.
or that file is modified by something else all the time.. obviously we have to change something else before that..

The kernel. Just wanted to find out if there was another way, it'd be much simpler than modding a kernel. It seems there isn't
Just a trial idea, copy that file to as card, then edit it. See if it saved then, then rename old one as xxxx.bak and paste the edited file there.
I can't do it as I am on a custom kernal and i am able to change it as I said.
Check it out and tell if that's any help

Its impossible, i tried this command on terminal: echo 1800000 > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/cpuinfo_max_freq it says permission denied (i was su)
Use Tegrak Overclock
Edit System Files
I have the same problem
think you have to edit the init.rc file

[Q] custom rom permission script

hi,
well i've made a custom rom but i need to copy a file to /data/system which is the appwidget.xml
First i try to use the "simple" copy script as for application.
But it breaks the boot of my sgs.
I think i need to make some permissions on the updater script but i don't know which numbers to put in.
Can you help me or have a better solution.
Thanks in advance.

[Q] good vibes

after initial search and many contradictory answers, simple but inadequate (change pattern) and/or complicated to perform actions, I would like to put an end on the question:
is there any way to boost the vibration on SGM???!
please do contribute with answers in accordance with the first sentence
thnx
can try going to /sys folder and can look for vibrator folder in somewhere there then with the hep of duty file you can change the vibrator intensity

simple but not understandable answer; wish i was not that much of a noob!
still haven't found what i'm looking for
I would try to make it more clear
first with file manager go to /sys folder
try looking into every folder there till you find a folder named vibrator
go to that folder and there would be a file named "duty"
open it with a text editor which support root access
and from there increase the vibrator power to the one you like
first of all>> thank you very much for trying to help
second>> now that i know it can be done, i'm even more eager to try it
third>>
i'm running cm10.1 [maybe i should've mentioned that before]
my file manager during search found 7 items with the term "vibrator" - although in results shows only 4:
the only folder among those is: /sys/devices/virtual/timed_output/vibrator/
but it doesn't have any file named "duty"
started looking manually with root explorer, then tried with android commander (on a pc), then googled and guess what:
i got back here
different mobile, kernel, roms have different place
do you have /sys/class/misc/pwm_duty folder
if yes then open pwm_duty file and change some digits
