[Q] Browser on odex\deodex Roms - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is it for everyone, or i'm the only one who have noticed that the browser (the stock one, or any other) works far way smoother on the stock JVQ which is ofcourse odex rom than any other deodexed rom (even those who are based on jvq or jvp...) Just flashed the new Darky 10.2 final and also over there... the browser feel very very lagy after i've experienced it on the stock rom.
I know that it was a known issue with the deodexed JVQ roms but some devs published that it was fixed. Neither way i couldn't find ANY deodexed rom that the browsers works like they work over the stock rom.
Any other thoughts?

please respond
well i can see u guys viewing this thread but not responding...
I just want your opinion about the web browsing experience over your deodexed roms (I assume that 90% of you use custom roms which all of them are deodexed).
Please respond.

Nobody is responding because it's a known, and highly documented and talked about issue since JVQ was leaked. Do a quick search of the forums and you'll see for yourself. I suggest next time doing that first as people on XDA don't like wasting their time re-iterating the same information that is already freely available.
So to answer your question, yes it is the same for everyone else. There may be a fix but there are conflicting results. Run a quick search for more info on that.

you might not understood my question
First of all thanks for the answer.
Second thing - i did searched for this kind of topic, and as i mentioned - i know people have discussed about this issue but on the specific JVQ firmware and i didn't asked if everyone gets better browsing results on the odex jvq comparing to the deodexed jvq.
WHAT I DID ASKED - (and i couldn't find any answer for that - even though there are several pages which explains the cons and pros of odex and the deodex roms)
IS THAT TRUE TO SAY THAT THE BROWSERS ON ODEXED ROMS ALWAYS WORKS BETTER THAN ANY DEODEXED ROM???

[Q] Which is the most complete/up to date rom at the moment?

I still have 2.2.1. self-cooked from the Rom-Kitchen on my device. I love the rom kitchen concept where you can decide what you want on your own but unfortunatly the kitchen only has JVB as beta.
So I was wondering what rom you could recommend?
What I am looking for:
- JVB base
- Modded apk's (non increasing ringtone, camera hack, browser hack with useragent)
- extended power menu
- ad-hoc wifi support
- lagfix (ext4)
- up-to-date busybox and CWM
.
I guess I can install the modded apk's etc myself, so its not required that the rom has those preinstalled, but would be cool anyway. But that the base (busybox, cwm, root, etc.) features of the custom roms are up to date are most important for me, so I won't have to reflash again in a couple of weeks when things get finally updated etc.
I wouldn't want to install experimental stuff like cynagogenmod etc. which still have problems.
Hope you can help me decide so I don't have to dig through all the roms available.
None as all the multiple posts asking exactly the same question .
Gingerbread is Beta most roms are always a work in progress .
Use search button read devs section .

ok sorry man, totally forgot to do a search before posting. Hopefully the advantages/disadvantages of some of the common roms are discussed in other threads then.
I'm mostly looking for a good (and up to date) base rom to then customize to my needs.
you might also consider AOSP ROMS which are built from the ground up... again also beta but stable enough if you ask me. Have a look at CM7 or miui

[Q] Hesitating to upgrade to 2.3.3... for a reason?

Hello there,
Here's my situation: I'm still on Froyo JPY stock (unrooted) and have been reading extensively in this forums for quite a long time now.
I have various issues with my current configuration, the most prominent being fast battery drain (my phone has never lasted more than approx. 18hours), slow gps fix, occasional crashes and sometimes slow responses. Apart from that I dig the idea of a different lock-screen, VoodooSound for better audio recording quality while shooting videos at concerts, nice themes etc. etc.
Now I've looked into Virnik0's step-by-step guide and this sounds all very understandable and should give me a rooted 2.3.3 stock with SuperCurio's VoodooKernel (thank you in advance for such a clear guide).
However I'm still hesitating to upgrade for various reasons, and I hope someone can clear up some of these for me and might give me their general opinion.
1. Going from Froyo to Gingerbread, I feel like a full wipe would be necessary (or nicer and cleaner), am I right? How would I go about that before the update? (If I wait until the Kies Update, will this wipe my phone automatically?)
2. With the update, will I get the SamsungApps again with 2.3.3 that came with my phone on Froyo?
3. What's up with the issues in the 2.3.3 version, can they be fixed without too much understanding of mounting and rootexplorer etc.? (You read so much about issues like Swype, GoogleMaps, Battery Drain etc. It's hard to decide whether the new version will meet my needs or make things worse)
Now as an alternative, do you guys think flashing a custom Kernel like Voodoo (Froyo Versions) togehter with a less battery draining modem would already solve some, or all of my issues?
I am just quite confused with all the options and new information everyday and I don't want to mess up anything. This being said, I can easily access both Recovery and Download Mode with the 3-button combos (kind of an intermediate newbie here, i guess )
Well all opinions and answers are very much appreciated.
Kind regards.
Point one gingerbread is BETA .
Point two using the unofficial methods may brick your phone and will certainly void warranty .
Point three using unofficial roms means kies no longer updates .
Point four the Samsung apps you get are in the main the same .
Point four the majority of reported bugs are either bad flash or idiot using the phone .
Your choice to proceed .
Personal route would be to follow Virnik0's step-by-step guide. But stop before Installing Darky rom .
Instead go to Rom Kitchen and build a rom .
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=817703
Stock with WIPE Kernel Chainfires .and all other apps available .
when thats done install CF-Root-XW_XEE_JVB-v3.1-CWM3RFS
Followed by if required XWJVB_Gingerbread_v5.2_Android_lock

Thanks for your swift reply, it is much appreciated.
Just for my understanding: The procedure you recommend sounds a little "double" to me:
If I follow Virnik0's guide until step 20 (right before Darky ROM), my phone has already been flashed with stock firmware including bootloaders + CFRoot Kernel + VoodooKernel (supercurio).
After that you mean go to ROM Kitchen (the new Beta I suppose?) and stock again this time with WIPE and Chainfire's Kernel. After that again with CFRoot Kernel?
I am confused. What is the purpose of this. Besides that, can you point me to the XWJVB_Gingerbread_v5.2_Android_lock file?
Not if its already flashed you dont need them just pick what you want .
I probably stopped as soon as i had 2.3 installed and then went rom kitchen etc .
Just stop before the post that says install Darky rom and you should be fine .
XWJVB_Gingerbread_v5.2_Android_lock file?
You will have to search i have deleted all my SGS 1 links .

I think the point he was trying to make was that you can build a rom to suit your needs in the kitchen. If u want sammy apps you can include them, if u don't you don't have to.there are many custom roms out there too. alot off which strip out the crap from samsung. I personally use debusrom but this does not have samsung apps. it does however have the aosp lockscreens. Its all down to what you want. Which is why the kitchen may be a better option for you, right down to the modem you wish to use.

oh man ur always here to answer people's quesion u got thanks from me
now commenting on the original post, the only reason for me stay away from the gb roms is the call recording function which is unavailable yet in gb roms (apart from miui which is awesome but unstable according my experience )
MIUI is not unstable, it just has a few minor bugs, biggest one being battery drain. everything works as it should do, ive been using it since rc3 and i aint going back..... ever lol

[Q] How do I go back to a froyo ROM after running gingerbreads ROMs?

I searched but as usual I suck at searching this site so if there's already a thread please point me there and a mod can close this question down.
I've been running gingerbread ROMs for about the last month or so. It's been fun and I like the work the devs have done so far but I'm just not satisfied with the performance yet (mostly battery drainage stuff, some lockups and other minor issues).
I want to go back to a froyo ROM. Anything I need to do special for this? do I need to flash the old bootloaders? I'm not sure what is required but I'm sure it's simple.
Thanks.

On this page, just a few threads down.
Your answer is yes, GB bootloaders are backwards-compatible; just don't flash a Froyo ROM that includes secondary Froyo/Eclair bootloader or your phone is not going to be very happy.

[Q] Looking for a stable firmware + root + unlock

Hi I am still very new to the Android world, but I need some guidance from the experts here.
I have a glitchy Sam Galaxy S that I would like to install a new firmware with root and unlock. I have installed firmwares before so I am ok with that.
It doesnt need to be the newest firmware just something that is reliable. There is so many different firmwares out there, its confusing.
The phone will be used in Canada on Fido.
Thanks for your help!
Try this first..so you can root it and put a custom recovery on the fly...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788108
Then check the development section for the i9000 and choose any roms...JVR's or JVS's
The ROM is a matter of taste...I have tested 5 different ROMs on the last 3 days...and I'm still waiting for one that will make me comfortable to use on a daily basis...
Have fun....
Couldn't you have just read the answers to one of the thousands of almost identical questions already posted in this forum?
In the end, all you can do is read the actual ROM threads, choose a few that sound good, and try them out. The only opinion that matters is yours, stop asking someone to think for you.

I tried several roms, btw i found excellent for daily use the MIUI rom. Fast, stable and easy to use. Someone says that is too close to iphone style, but you can change theme with one click to make it different.

I've tried many gingerbread custom roms and stock odexed as well as deodexed roms. The most stable roms would be those of froyo 2.2.1, for example, ZSJPK. Froyo roms are smoother because they have more ram, and you can root it using superoneclick. However, I'm using gingerbread stock JVR because of the wider range of theming options

[Q] A Rom for my Galaxy S I9000

hello all
i did a search to find the most used and spreaded kirnel and i've found it! it was a poll and it went to SpeedMod for over 40% i guess..
now i'm searching for a ROM i did search the Forum for a List of Roms threat and i've found it also..:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=886000
My question is..
The thread above DOES NOT have a poll.. and i don't know which Rom is new and which one is on the top :S
Is there any poll thread in here???
It depends on what you want in a ROM I guess, everyone has different opinions.
DarkyROM 10.2.2 is a good ROM to start with which uses JVQ (2.3.4). I was using this for a while before I started to make my own ROM. DarkyROM also comes with the DarkCore Kernel.
So far my custom ROM uses JVT (2.3.5) and Semaphore Kernel 1.8.1, I'll be releasing it soon.
the best way to see which one you like is to try several of them which you think you might like and choose one after, all opinions here are objective... everyone has different expectations from their phone...

there are two things important in the life of US's Android user:
1. KIRNEL;
2. POLL
with the point 2, I'm pretty comfortable to recognise what you mean, looking on the US economy, government and peaceful behaving around the world. But... WTF is KIRNEL????
I'd recommend darky's 10.2.2!!! just installed it on my friend's phone, and I LOVE IT more than my sgs4g hahaha. What a great rom. Although, it's the first custom rom I've ever come across (there are none for my phone, well, not GB ones).

Let me elaborate,
Darky's 10.2.2 was my first custom rom, I just flashed it today. I have not had any other experiences with other custom roms, in fact, this i9000 was given to me just to upgrade to Gingerbread. So I chose Darky's because of the good comments and the features it had (like BLN, support for i9000t, etc).
I can then, confirm, that this ROM succeeded my expectations, and works like a charm. The device is now faster than my galaxy S 4g, and battery life appears to be good enough. So, I would recommend you at least try this ROM, because it's confirmed to be working as it should!
I should mention however, that there might be a better suited ROM for you out there.
I had no problems flashing this. It's really easy, but you might need to flash 2 roms, one using odin (darky's 10.2 RE) and then the extreme edition using CWM. This might sound like a hassle, but I was done in less than 30min. Easy to install and looks great.
No issues.
Good luck!
CM7. Hands down.
trust me...i have galnet miui on my phone with tkglitch kernel...the best combination ever i tried
however, all CM7 based rom are great
