I am very comfortable with the keyboard on my old EVO the stock HTC one.
Is there a way to install that on that Nexus -S.?

You can try taking htc_ime.apk if not download smart keyboard and use the htc skin.

Thank you so much I tried a tom of different keyboards for my Nexus, and nothing was as comfortable as my HTC EVO keyboard. But this Smart Key OS hands down #1. Always felt the stock Gingerbread was too small and hard to type on.
Appreciate the recommendation

Totally agreed. I don't know why people like the stock Gingerbread keyboard so much, its so small i could barely type. Another keyboard I could recommend is SwiftKey X (phone).. it was free on Amazon App Store a couple days ago. It replaced my Smart Keyboard Pro, but I really loved Smart Keyboard Pro. Very accurate keyboard AND you can download other skins for it (including user made skins!). Same algorithm when it comes to typing on different skins so they all feel the same!

Its the best keyboard I have used so far. Ive used the htc stock one, swype, droid x multitouch, and swiftkey is the best for texting. Its in the marketplace right now.
I might check this out. How does it work with Fat Fingers?
I just gave this a shot. It's definitely better than the stock keyboard for texting, the word prediction is great. However, my speed/accuracy easily surpass this with Swype, maybe it's just me (Slow with this/Fast with Swype?). But still a great find for those that don't have/want Swype.
In response to the fat fingers question, the letters are slightly narrower than the stock HTC keyboard, although the predicted words are on quite large buttons that makes them easy to select.
I just can't do swype. I need to look at the screen to find the letters and with the aria the screen is to small.

I installed and tried this out this morning. It's scarily accurate at predicting the next word (sometimes it knows what I want to say even before I do).
I'll stick to SWYPE for portrait mode texting (getting to be fairly fast and accurate now), but for landscape I'm definitely going to try out SwiftKey a bit more.

Yeah this application is pretty awesome at predicting text, and is my preferred keyboard at the moment.

not to be "that guy" but I personally have alot better luck with the droidx keyboard posted over the stock sense one and swiftkey

The keyboard is awkward after switching from a iPhone, I found a iPhone keyboard skin but since the screen is small it won't put the keyboard on there. The numbers is in a odd spot to get to. Is there any other keyboards for the Aria?
i see two on page one of this forum and another on page 3.....
Swype is okay but takes some getting used to IMHO. I've been using Swiftkey beta and liking it.

The HTC IME mod keyboard is pretty good as well and you can make your own skins for it.

I'm digging Swiftkey. Tried Swype and like SK better. I tried typing as fast as I could in landscape mode and it got all the words right. In portrait it was so-so... but that is expected (and heck, I wanted a smaller phone, so I asked for less keyboard real estate).
I just saw this while searching for something new because swype stopped working as of today. First time I ever heard of SwiftKey and I really like it! Pleasantly surprised.

How do u use the skin ucreate?

You have to drop it onto your SD card and then use a file manager to navigate to your SD card and install it.
Once installed you go into settings then languages and keyboards and select the keyboard you just installed.
Once selected long tap in an input field and choose input method, choose your new keyboard and you are done.

Downloaded the swiftkey beta, used if for a day, liked it so much I took them up on their offer of a reduced price to buy the non-beta version on initial release(today). Good stuff and it was only US $.94.
One More Vote for Swiftkey
+1 for Swiftkey. In my mind it combines the best of a traditional touch keyboard and Swype.

Cool, thanks for this info too, I am going to try SwiftKey later on.
Am I crazy, I liked the keyboard on 2.1 over 2.2 or are they the same, just a different color?
Are there any 3rd party keyboards that work on liberated froyo. I really liked the droid x one for cm6. Besides swype. I don't like any of the market ones

Have you tried Smart Keyboard? SwiftKey, SlideIt, 8pen, Better Keyboard all suck. Get Smart Keyboard, skin it nice, and it's the best keyboard, imo. They have exact look-a-like Gingerbread skins, iPhone skins, and a few other cool ones.
I am using stock gingerbread keyboard on my Liberated ROM and it's pretty useful. Tried better keyboard, smart keyboard, swype etc.
i always thought the htc keyboard was the best normal keyboard. my favorite not-normal keyboard is swype.
I really like the one that comes on the Galaxy S phones (not Swype, which is ok for just english). I think it was just called Samsung IME, but was really useful as an English keyboard, and switched to Korean super quick.
I guess if you want a good keyboard that does both you have to get one made by Samsung, but that's just for my needs.

So this is my first phone that doesn't have a physical keyboard and I'm having some trouble. I came from both Droid one and two and the LG touch so I have always had a physical keyboard and now without one I'm somewhat lost. So please anyone with a keyboard app recommendation please speak up!
P.s. I have big hands and tend to hit the wrong key because of that.

Swift key. It learns as you type. Once using if for a while it predicts almost everything you are going to type

I use flext9 because you can swipe the keyboard or use the keys normally, way smoother than swype IMO.

Definitely swift key! It's so good at predicting your words that some times it feels like it's reading your mind.

+1 for swift key.
Well I already had swift key from it being the free app of the day so I loaded it up and started using it again and so far so good everything is at least better than the stock htc keyboard so I'm at least happy about that.

+1 been using this one as well and I love it. its called "keyboard from android 2.3 +" in the market. when installed it shows up as "gingerbread keyboard"
+1 for flex t9 if you like swyping or swift key for just regular keyboard use. Although t9 can do both, just doesn't predict.

+2.. I use the paid version, so I can bring up the directional arrows as needed. At $0.99 it isn't bad.

+3 lol paid too, deff worth it.
Keyboard from Gingerbread 2.3
There's a free and paid version. Best keyboard available.
+4 for gingerbread keyboard
i love how fast it is
I've also been using the gingerbread keyboard from the market for a while now (even back on my Droid X) and I love it.
I have used swype, swift and the GB keyboard.
For texting, landscape or portrait they are great.
The problem is for emails. Once you lay the phone over to landscape and start to type an email, the kbd takes up the whole screen. Is there a way to shrink the keyboard say 20% or so?
I got Gingerbread, the paid one
I had the G2, and Swype sucks on a bigger screen in comparison, not to mention Thunderbolt doesn't even come with it. I downloaded it and said wtf is this. Idk if its the screen or just not being pre-installed
I use the HTC_IME keyboard
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=624416
I love the stock keyboard on the HTC One at this moment except in landscape mode, where the middle keys are larger than the side keys. This messes up how fast I type when I go to landscape mode.
Does anybody know a keyboard that is free and is nearly the same as the stock HTC One keyboard without the bigger central buttons issue?
SwiftKey is a good one

Pretty much going along with what everyone's saying here. SwiftKey is really good with predictions and "learning" what you'll type next. It has nice themes to go along with it, too. (Not sure if the free version has them though) The AOSP keyboard is similar, but less customizable. The predictions aren't as consistent as SwiftKey's, but they're still pretty decent. Either way, you can't go wrong. Just comes down to personal preference. (YMMV!) Me? I go with SwiftKey!
Swiftkey
Is there one with toggle predictions? I don't use swyping keys or predictions.
Absolutely SwiftKey! The best keyboard with flow and awesome prediction!
