Hi all!!
I'm on 2.2.1 and everything was working nice with the stock email client (the one without exchange security) without any problems, until five days ago I found out that every app that was using the camera (goggles, barcode scanner) or even asphalt 6 gave me force closes!! You are going to ask yourself what does email app have to do with this? Although I didn't believe it, I went ahead with a new completely wipe rom install, kernel and apps!!
Everything works fine now, except the email app!! I habe the stock email app but every time I open a new email it gives me force close, as soon as I reopen the app and the email shows up as read now, I can open it correctly?!?!
Also when I try to delete the email.apk from system/app and copy the one without the exhange security which is exactly the same as the stock one all apps above stop working?!?!?! Any ideas from anyone? I've already installed other app from market, but they insist on running in the background and I don't like this!!
Any help appreciated!!
Shall I format my sd card?
Thanks!

Does anyone know what com.google.process.gapps is? I think, im not quite sure, but it might have started coming up randomly after I moved the caches to my sd card. It doesnt do anything when I hit force close, everything im still doing stay the same, its just annoying having it pop up periodically. Does anyone know how I can fix this without having to wipe my phone or anything? Thanks
wipes suck..
I used astro to copy all my apps to my sd so all I have to do is install each one , one at a time which is tedious but better than the market and, I have now noticed if I hadn't done that Id have to buy all the apps since I bought a second G1 in white gave my black one to my wife after a wipe, then used the same sd to re install stuff to the albino one.
But it seems to me that this point other than pinpointing the problem to 1 or 2 apps then kill them and hope it fixes the problem, not alot is known about these lil' suckers so most of the time wipe is the only option, but all your contacts mail & stuff is sync'd from the goog servers so its not as bad as rebuilding most pda/smartphones.
soon im sure things will get easier and better
bhang
Yea I think im jus going to backup my stuff with mybackup, then wipe it, cuz its really annoying
Be careful with that. I encounter problem a while back, cant remember what I did to cause it, but when I rebooted I had to sign back in to my gmail account and couldn't get a data connection with the setup wizard. I had to reflash all the way back to rc29.
I jus wiped it and and used mybackup 2 restore everything, but I encountered a problem with Download Crutch, whenever I tried to install another app after I installed Download Crutch it would ask me to choose what app to use to install the other apps, Download Crutch or Package Installer, and it would freeze at [email protected] screen and say "Android has enountered an error" or smthin, and ask to wait or force close, but it wouldnt allow me to choose, it would just freeze. So I uninstalled it and successfully reinstalled my other apps, everything is fine now, im leaving Download Crutch uninstalled
Linda File Manager has a "download crutch" built in (lets you pick what to associate files with). Download crutch seems to be just that small part of linda file manager. best file manager, imo. Astro is juuust behind it

You should have just clear data of gmail application and error would have gone.
How do you "just clear the Google data"?
hcleared gmail data but the error still comes up...
hi, I've cleared the gmail apps data just as the post above suggested, but the error still comes up... now everytime I open gmail it'll force close immediately.... appreciate any help.. thanks

com.google.process.gapps
I narrowed the problem down to "google talk" on my EVO. I went into settings about 30 mins ago and i haven't had a pop up yet.
If you frequently use Gtalk, there are other messaging apps such as Palringo that syncs with gtalk. Hope this helps!
try disabling Gtalk...worked for me.
How did you disable Gtalk? I removed Gtalk and it started having this issue in gmail... the only way I fixed it was by putting Gtalk back.
wiped entire phone and reinstalled everything again... dunno why this happens but when it starts I cannot revert it.

I think I had similar problems with my Googles Apps, and a few other apps. What I did was installed Titanium backup. Backup up the apps that I was having problem. uninstalled the apps, and reinstall them from the Market. And that solved my problem.
Hi!
I was experiencing the same problem, and I couldn't install anything from Market. The problem is caused by the gtalk service. If you have it uninstalled, you can get it from a dropbox link. Here it goes: dlDOTdropboxDOTcom PERuPER15246936PERgtalkservice.apk
Of remove the spaces and the other stuff. Unfortunately the forum does not let meg paste external links since i'm a newbie here.
A guy named SAPS uploaded it. Say hallelujah It solves both problems.
Cheers
Could you please give me some more details about what i have to do with this :
dlDOTdropboxDOTcom PERuPER15246936PERgtalkservice.apk
I also have the same problem. I can't download anyting from the market. And my knowledge about computers is not too much.

You press menu from your home screen
click on setting
click on applications
click on manage applications
click on all
click on "app name"
click on clear data
Don't ask me which app, cause I am still looking for it.
On my galaxy tab from tmobile, I cleared the following: contacts, gmail.
It fixed it
But on my G2 from tmobile, i ****ed up the sync, and had to restore it.
The app that I think that cause the problem for me was the bump app.
hey guys just wanted to ask quickly if anyone has ran into the issue of gmail not sending emails. whether its a reply or a new message it just sits on "sending" & the recipient never gets it. appears they simply stick in the outbox
i've tried re-installing gmail to no avail.
anyone ran into this & fixed it?
thanks in advance guys
Seems to be working fine for me.
I too cannot send from Gmail. I have not had time to investigate the cause. I rarely use the nook for email purpose so it is on the bottom of my priority list. I am also curious if anyone else is experiencing this. I will post if I find a solution.
I just tested a new compose and a forward on my NC and it's fine. It took it a bit longer than I expected for it to go through, but both messages made it to the recipient.
thanks guys! more so looking for someone who IS having or HAS had the problem. good to know it works for everyone else tho. i'm sure its something we did while playing around.
no gmail send function
New Nook Color..
I have just installed Cyano 7.2 rc1 and also gapp but I can not do these:
1. Can read gmail fine by using browser .. to gmail.com. for some reason it uses my usual email address and password and shows my gmail fine although very slow to load. ( don't know how it got my login info!!)
2. If i try to reply or send I cannot write a reply as nothing seems to happen when I hit reply, all i get is the window waiting for me to type but no keyboard so I cannot enter a rply.
3. Under apps I cannot login to google , it rejects my email account and pwd. so I cannot access any apps.
4. If i am on google play and try to download I get a msg that I haven't got an account and my devcie is not recognised.
5. FYI If I try to access cyanomod settings I get this "Settings ( process com.android.settings ) stopped unexpectedly also same with google settings.
Please excuse this list but i cannot find anywhere on the net that resolves this issue. BTW It was exactly the same when I started with Cm 7.1 I am using clockwork boot to install the zip files from a microSD 8 GB class 4.
Ideas very welcomed.
Clean install ? Did you wipe data/ system / cache?
Wipe D Cache?
clean boot?
Thanks,
I did a "clean" boot clearing both cache and data. May be this doesn't really clean everything.. I have installed at least twice so I would like to to try a new install into a really cleaned up Nook. Can you please outline the steps for the clean up.
I am using clockwork for the SD initial boot.
Thank you.
BTW I wanted to get a log of what was happening but can't find a logcat except as an app and I can't access Market or google play yet due to "google login problem, mentioned in my first post.

If you have Seal installed this happens.

When I open the Gmail app and manually refresh, the app closes. If I switch to a label that's not my inbox, then refresh, Gmail will take me back to my inbox and properly refresh it. Also, Gmail won't get mail in the background. I suspect this is because of the crash issue.
Here's a logcat dump from when I force a crash, by trying to refresh my inbox: http://pastebin.com/C7AWUs6Z
Any suggestions for resolving this? I'd like my Nook to automatically fetch mail, and to not have to play games when refreshing manually.
Same problem
I am having the same problem. Also, my gmail won't sync automatically.
I had same issues but now GMail works
In Titanium Backup I "Wiped data" and then reopened GMail now it works fine: auto updates, no FCs, etc.
Good luck m8s!
spiffytech & marcusau2,
What are you running on your NC? 1.0.1? 1.1?
If 1.1, did you use Autonooter 3.0 or Decad3nce v1.1 ROM?

I can confirm this solution: Run Titanium Backup, select "Gmail 1.3" and "Gmail Storate 2.1-update1" and "Wipe data" for each. Now Gmail doesn't crash when I hit "Refresh".
Does this require me to do a clockwork recovery?

No, fixed the problem without the use of CWR.
I meant to say, I used the auto booted method vs the rom. To fix gmail do i have to use clocwork recovery?

I don't think so. I can only speak for my case, but I expect you can perform the steps I outlined above on your auto-nooted NC and fix the issue.
That solution didn't work for me. I saw in a thread someone mentioned something about adding your google account through youtube or something.

This method worked for me for a little while. Then Gmail started acting up on me again, I think after a reboot. I hope you have better luck than me.
I was going to suggest running fix permissions from Clockwork because that seemed to work for me between now and my last post. But that too has turned out to be temporary fix.
I'm going to try wiping clean and see if the problem goes away on a fresh install.

You wouldn't be able to use Clockwork anyways since you used Autonooter method. I've seen posts that installing Clockwork causes a boot loop that makes your NOOKcolor always boot into Clockwork.
But it's weird you're having problems with the Gmail app. I don't remember seeing issues with Gmail with Autonooter 3.0 while I was looking into using it. However, not being able to use Clockwork was a deal breaker for me to not use Autonooter 3.0.
titanium backup wipe
though it's a bit too early to tell whether this problem will resurface, wiping both the gmail and storage seemed to solve my problem.
i'm running autonooter with the 1.1 update and can't figure out why gmail would just start flaking out for no reason when it has been working just fine
hopefully, this isn't a recurring issue
raze
I'm having the same issue as well, running NC 1.1, Autonooter 3.0.
For me I can try to sync it and it doesn't crash, but it doesn't sync either, it just sits there. It DOES crash if I try to archive a message in my inbox. (But if I apply a label to the message and then archive it, it works. Go figure.)
I've been able to sync using the Titanium Backup data wipe method (followed by a reboot in most cases), but it has persistently flaked out again for no apparent reason. Sometimes it would work for a few hours before flaking, or sometimes it would flake again almost immediately. I have literally no idea what's causing it.
I really hope somebody figures this issue out. I'm running out of ideas of things to try...
Ditto 1.1 Autonooter 3.
the android email app works perfectly.
Gmail, not so good. Did the "add account" thing where I re-added my existing account to gmail and calendar started working perfectly But not gmail.
Wiped using Titanium but it still stalls.
However, if I go to labels in gmail and select "ALL" it'll sync. And it'll stick, after a few minutes. But this manual sync is the only way I've found to have it work.
I have been having this problem recently also. Gmail and everything worked at first, for maybe about a day and then it stopped syncing. I tried clearing the data using Titanium but now it just crashes every time I try to open it. Presumably because it is trying to sync upon opening. Not sure how to fix this now.
As a side note, since doing this it seems that the Youtube app is crashing upon opening now also.
I ended up switching to the K9 email app which has more options than the gmail app. I still wish I could get gmail to work out of principle, but this has solved my problem.
I don't think it has anything to do with using latest autonooter as I used the prior method to get 1.1 and I have the same problem. Common seems to be 1.1.
Oddly enough the Gmail app started working again for me yesterday with no changes in between. Then tried it again today and it was no longer working. Tried again to wipe the data using Titanium and nothing happened.
I did learn yesterday though that the Gmail app was able to connect to the Gogo in-flight wifi even without paying for a connection. None of the other apps were able to connect.
Hey everyone!
Around three days ago I did a factory reset ready to root my Galaxy S i9000 and when it finished reseting allot of things were missing like the market place app. I decided that I should re do it and everything cam back fine and ran perfect, I also got my Marketplace app back. Once I downloaded all my social apps back onto my device I logged in to them all, thing is my twitter app wont sign me in any more, yet if I download Tweetdeck it logs in fine. Last night I installed Darky's ROM 9.3b and downloaded all my apps again but my twitter app still doesn't sign me in where as tweetdeck does.
Please any help would be awesome! I don't like Tweetdeck much.

try to flash stock filmware and lets us see if it work and if possible then wipe all data
so it's been a while since I've been on the XDA forums from my windows mobile days. Just bought and rooted my Nook and I've made my return to the forum.
So my problem is that I can't get marketplace downloads to work. I rooted my Nook Color (1.1.0) with Autonooter 3. Everything went exactly as it should, synced my youtube and gmail and gtalk. I've been able to download and install apk's from the internet and have the amazon marketplace that will download and install apps. I've tried everything from resetting the caches from gmail, gtalk, youtube, marketplace, like everyone has suggested in other threads. I've installed titanium backup and did the data wipe on the various apps, I've tried signing in/out of my gmail in the browser. I can't seem to get the marketplace to download.
any thoughts?
when i first rooted, my nook did this as well, i just rebooted and it worked, try to reboot once or twice to see if it works.
Strange as it sounds you need to be logged in to Google Talk for the market apps to download. Also, if you keep the stock launcher you won't see the apps in the Extras until you do a full reboot, but you can launch them from the notification bar.
Try unmounting your SD card...
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA Premium App
unfortunately, all of these have already been attempted and failed.
as a side note, my gtalk just stopped working, crashes when I try to open it, even after a data wipe (titanium) and reboot.
I had the market working, until I changed the order of the accounts ( I have now primary a google apps and secondary a gmail account) When it worked was inverted in the order. I went the manual way to delete the account that appears in the nookdev wiki.
I suspect this is the cause. Now I'm tryng to keep the calendar sync with the google apps account and get the marketplace to download anyting.
Do you have the same situation?
Somebody with a clue to get this work?
I'll keep investigating. I'll post solution if I find it.
Cheers.

I had the same problem but I finally found an answer from someone on a different site. Turn your Nook off, put the SD card back into the slot, hook the USB cable back up and plug it into your computer (not sure if this step was necessary but it worked so I'm leaving it in), then unplug everything, remove the card and restart.
Hope this helps!
