Not recognized by usb - Droid Incredible Android Development

My HTC Incredible is not being recognized by my computer, it wasnt recognizing the SD card either but now it is.
I want to do this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=14440621
but the guide says that I need to be rooted which I am not. It also says I could flash a new radio but I dont know how if I am currently in radio 2.15. Only way would be to downgrade and I have no idea how.
If anybody could provide me the way to flash the new radio I would love them. Thank you.

Does it even work?
And next time, ask in Q&A. It would also increase your chances of not being thread-locked to ask a mod to move to Q&A.

Fixed it usin that guide

NOOB here please help

so some of these questions might be stupid ill admit it. how big of a chance is there that i brick my phone trying to root it. and if im planning to get a bigger sd card should i get it before i use my original sd card and root it. also if i ever need to how hard is it to put the phone back to sprints os. and anyone one with good advice im open ears guys.
General thread, just for future reference. As far as bricking your chances are pretty slim, just make sure not to flash a GSM radio.

rooting your phone: pretty much no chance. don't hold me to this though, if you somehow manage to do it. even if you do screw it up, the RUU(the thing that puts you back to sprint's os) can easily be run from a computer and it'll pretty much fix your phone.
most important thing: NEVER flash a gsm radio. those things will really mess up your phone because it'll never turn on after you do that.
about the sdcard... it shouldn't really matter which one you use unless you're using apps2sd.
Hey thanks what about the micro sd card thing

The sd card thing doesnt matter. You can get a new one after you are rooted and running a custom rom
Thanks man what's gsm radio and what type of sd would you recommend for saving apps

With sd cards, there is a 'class' number. The higher number you have, the better it is. I'd go with class 6 or higher. And if you just stay in the CDMA forum, you shouldn't have any problems. Just don't flash any roms or radios that dont mention CDMA
Once again you rock bro thanks I was gonna use the steps that were posted under the rooting cdma hero for Windows does that one look like it would be good for someone like me to follow

You could just Google "fresh pre kitchen" or just "fresh kitchen", those things will basically root your phone for you
Do you have a link for the best place to get fresh kitchen so many pop up when you Google it

ok im rooted go team venture now yet another question anyone have the best 2.1 rom or a good one thats pretty stable.
Fresh2.0http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=643034 or Damage Controlhttp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=656690
I prefer fresh rom
Basically it's just trial and error. It's pretty easy to flashthe ROM's so you can keep changing them until you find something you like..
When you flash any ROM you will usually need to wipe your phone and this will cause anything not backed up will be lost. i make sure I save all contacts as a google type. That way when you flash a new ROM and you sign into google again all your contacts will be restored. There are several apps in the market to back up apps you have downloaded.
But before you do that, boot into recovery...hold down home and power to turn on the phone and do a nandroid. Then mount your sdcard and save the files inside the nandroid folder on your sdcard to your computer. This should be your nandroid of the original 1.5 ROM.
on the roms when it says to save to root folder is that the same as the nandroid folder cause when i mount my sd there is no folder that labeled root
ha im retarted didnt read it good enough you answered that already. on my contacts list if the person has google next to there name does that mean is saved to google and where on google can i see them. i wasnt told or shown anything when i got this phone im sure this stuff is basic
heres a question: If I were to root and do a custom ROM, how assured am I that when sprint releases 2.1, I can do that upgrade?

Serendipity 5.12

Ok, so i just flashed this rom and so far so good, no problems flashing, which i am surprised as this is the first time i've done this.
The only issue i have is that there is no email app. I guess i should of gone into the kitchen and got that, but i was overwhelmed and just plain forgot.
Is there anyway that i can get that without having to reflash the rom completely?
Thanks
Sure. Just download the zip from the kitchen. Reboot into recovery and flash the zip. Any of the add-ons can be flashed. You don't have to reflash the rom again.

Hey thanks. I thought by adding those it would include the complete rom also. I'll give it a try.
Ok so i went to the kitchen and got what i needed. It all seemed to work properly except the Samsung keyboard. I really don't like theis roms keyboard. I like the colors and stuff. Should i try and reinstall that or does that go hand in hand with Samsung mms apk too?
I'm not sure about that. There's a "Serendipity Q&A" thread at the Captivate Q&A section. You'll get a quick reply there.

should be in the serendipity Q & A if it isnt go there and ask it, not in the themes and apps forum.........
Sorry didn't notice a section for that here. I didn't see a section for roms specific to the captivate. Themes and apps were the closest thing. Anyway....
I found the problem. Thanks. So far so good with this rom

I have noticed one thing with this rom so far. Maybe it's me but i can't get picture or video messages. It has a button to download but it never downloads. Will try going back to samsung mms and see what happens. I'm thinking of switching to Di11i's rom. But we will see.

Can't mount SD with serendipity 5.12
I have a Samsung Galaxy S Captivate.
I'm just starting to flash roms and I stumbled upon this old version of this ROM and I really like it. I would like to flash the version 6.2, but I'm have a dilemma.
My computer is not recognizing my phone at all. I'm not able to mount my SD card onto my computer so I can transfer files. I do have an external SD and I'm gnna try to put it on there and then use it to transfer it to the internal SD and then flash it. (that is if I find my mini SD adapter thing...)
Can anyone help me? please.
May have to get the usb drivers.

Got another computer you can use?
I've tried that and it still doesn't work. I've flash 6.3, but I had to download the zip file directly to phone and do everything from there.
I'm gnna try to flash a different rom and see what's up.

I rooted my phone, then really messed it up, please help

My phone is an HTC Hero CDMA Sprint running the latest update. I was talked in to rooting my phone to delete un needed apps, so I agreed and let my friend do it. Everything went fine, no problems. But then I deleted what I thought were nonsense aps, but I think I deleted something wrong because now I can not download from the market, gmail errors out when it tries to sync etc etc. And my friend did not do a back up of my phone (doh slaps hand on head).
I just want to put the phone back like factory. Of course, factory reset didn't really work because the stuff I deleted did not come back...but I figured that would be the case. I just made it worse because now I don't have my file manager to access the SD card and I can't download one from the Market.
I know there has to be some way to download something with my pc to flash the phone back to original, but I can't find it I only seem to find "updates" and I am not sure those will really help.
Can someone please point me in the right direction so that I can get my phone working properly again? Thank you so much!!
Flash a sense rom...that should fix everything..
Search RUU under the hero development section or go to the htc site ( http://www.htc.com/us/support/hero-sprint/downloads/) and get the hero software from there. Running it from either of those will return you to stock.

Just remember that running the RUU will also remove root from the phone...completely stock again...which is what it sounds like you want.

can you do this from your phone only, i.e. BT transfer an RUU flash img and flash it all on the phone, or do you have to USB connect to RUU?

ineresting.... I think you could, but ONLY if you were s-off. You could download the s-off only RUU, bt transfer it, and flash the HERCIMG.zip from hboot.
When running the RUU you do need to be connected to a PC. However, there is an HERCIMG zip RUU that you can run if you are s-off in the dev section and there is also a method posted to unroot without RUU from the sd card in the development section. Search rt100's posts for the second method and it should come up and I'll see if I can find the zip.
Sent from my HTC Hero CDMA using XDA App
Easiest way is htc sync and RUU on pc unfortunately.
Sent from my HERO200 using XDA Premium App
I tried both methods and the first failed due to hboot update and the second where you use the zip kept snagging at the file moving to /root saying write protected of read only. I tried this mount -o method but couldn't get root to be chmod only like /sys. Even with SU priv in the terminal emulator no dice. And when I called for upgrade sounded like they want the phone is why I'm little worried, maybe few seconds in the microwave or get it degaussed lol

Black rose zip?

I've been looking at flashing a new ROM On my Nexus one. But they all need blackrose. Is there another way to flash it? Like by .zip through cwm? When I rooted mine. And unlocked the bootloader. I just went straight to CM 7.1. No Blackrose. Was that correct to do?
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
Hi. Not sure what you mean by another way to flash it. Which ROMs are you looking at? Blackrose simply enables S-OFF, which allows the user the ability to flash any rom by being able to change system partition sizes. It is just a custom hboot bootloader, not needed for CM.
I just installed Medroid, based on Ice Cream Sandwich. In my case I needed blackrose so I could resize my partitions, but on CM, you do do not need to do that.
So far everything fine. But ICS needs more space for system than default space. So need to alter it. Thats y u need to install custom blackrose and thru it flash custom hboot.
Blackrose cannot be flashed as zip.
Head over to blackrose thread and carefully read all posts.

Blackrose = custom HBOOT, which allows custom partition sizes.

ditto--i read that thread at least 3 times--albeit when it was a little shorter
wouldn't look for quick way to BR without understanding what it does and doesn't do--
give it a go and see what questions remain
Yeah I'm trying to flash a ICS ROM. And it looked like a few others needed to have blackrose as well. Is there another method to flash it, because every time I open blackrose.exe it doesn't work. I tried compatibility mode, and as admin and it still cant find my N1, Even though ADB Detects it.

Thats right. I read it frequently and check for thread updates. So as to make things clear. Wat are the issues and how to sort it out.
PS - pls read read n read before applying BR.

I really wanna use a ICS ROM, I missed it since when I had it running on my Sensation which got stolen, so I want this thing to be ICS To also show off to some co-workers as well.
You can for sure. Afaik both medroid n evervolv versions can be used as daily drivers (may be wid some issues). They will be sorted out in future versions.
ICS for our N1 looks promising

Yeah it does look promising, but that blackrose thing is really screwing me over right now.
Jus spend some time and go thru the pages slowly n carefully. If u got more doubts, ask it over at blackrose thread. U will find solutions there

Did you meet ALL requirements on BR OP page.
Correct stock hboot before you tried to install BR
ADB and Fastboot downloaded and installed correctly--etc
do you use fastboot thru sdk?
My nexus is also running ICS Medroid. It's amazing fast and stable for an alpha.
Install blackrose isn't a big deal.
On this site is everything explained:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1270589
there is also a video how to resize partition:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b_D3shjrNq8&feature=youtu.be
Met all requirements. It just doesn't do anything when the device is connected. I click anything to continue. And then it doesnt do anything. Just says daemon started. Port xxxx. Then nothing happens.

Problem with teamhacksung's ICS rom!!! Need help desperately!!!

ok guys here is the deal. I just flashed teamhacksung's CM9 ALPHA for Captivate (BUILD 16) and faced multiple problems :
-no service at all
-phone doesnt recognize internal sd card, and keeps asking to insert sd card to be able to use camera and media player
-no option to choose wifi that i want to use
-cannot connect phone with computer via usb even mass storage is on
I need help desperately guys as soon as possible!!! can someone tell how to fix these problems, or tell me how to fix connection problems so i can copy another rom to my phone, or maybe how to go back to stock settings and stock rom !!
try flashing different ROM, may be?
Nostalgia 2.1 is out.
Check the sticky in the dev section for an odin flashable stock rom. Don't use cwm. Start back at kk4, flash a cwm kernel (corn or similar), then try cm9 again.

Hey guys i got new question for u, well now while im dealing with encryption problem i used the guide that yall mentioned and im having little problem (i hope its little) so heres the deal : whenever i try to pull or push file using adb i got device not found error. Im trying to push vold.flstab file that i somehow got out system/etc folder on my phone without using oull command since it wasnt working. I got it out and modified it but i cant push it back. How can i fix this error or how can i create a zip file to flash this file to my phone using cwm ???
Nevermind guys, figured out how to change that file (using root explorer) but now when i changed i was supposed to restart phone (thats what guide said) but phone now stucks on boot screen. really dont know what to do -.-
My friend says to me all the time... "your doing it wrong" and "just stop hacking your phone and u won't have that problem"
Sent from my SGH-I897 using XDA App
Yeea, I figured out that way now when my phone is totally busted, im gonna get new one (Captivate again) and not gonna mess a lot with it as I did with this one.
Really you shouldn't have to worry about completely messing up(but don't hold me to it) I thought I was done a couple times, but even when my captivate was soft bricked and my computer wouldn't recognize it, a USB jig pops it into download mode that we all know and love ... and from there you can flash back to whatever you like.
By the way...when is the last backup you have made? If it was right before you flashed, just go into download mode, flash to whatever you were on, restore your nandroid, then start over the right way(or choose not to flash that again)
