[Request] Screenshot! - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So... SGS2 has a power+home button screenshot method.. Which i would very much like to see on our cappy's if its possible .
Another method is the CM7 screenshot method... Is there any way to get that into a normal 2.3 rom? Such as apex

does the captivate have a "hard" home button?nope.
maybe other combos...

Sorry, didnt know it required a hard button... Perhaps both volume buttons and power?

i can do it on my htc inspire (on virtuous Unity rom) which has no physical home button.
the timeout on the power button is changed so it gives you time to hold down the power button, and hit the home button to snap the screenshot

upon close inspection it appears that this is a question.....
Closer inspection leads me to the conclusion that this is the development section....
You see where I'm going with this right....??

Old iPhone habits are hard to break...

Hey yall, Back when I didn't know any better I had an iphone and the power button was broken so I had an app that when I double clicked the home button it would turn off the screen.
I went to CM setting and found the thing that let me use the trackball to turn ON the phone, but Is it possible to get something simialer to what I had on the iPhone? a double click to turn off the screen thingy for the trackball?
Reteach yourself to use the power button the correct way.
Yeah that ^
Seriously you are going to kill the life of that track ball lol
I'd like to know an answer to this too, simply because my power button no longer works!

you can use power off widgets i see some in market there is some for reboot and i i remember well another to power off but need root

touch screen "turn on"...instead of side button...

is there any possible way to be able to touch the screen and return its from the timed out backlight insted of the power button then the actual unlocking....
Not sure about touching screen, but there's an app called NoLock that will make it so there's no lockscreen and hitting the power button unlocks it. Eats battery though.

Is there any way? Probably. Is it a good idea? Probably not. Just having the screen up to your thigh in your pocket would be enough to turn the screen on and thus drain your battery.
Not just drain your battery, but imagine calling people unexpectedly, random texting, somehow enabling options and selecting factory reset . There's a reason why there's a lock/unlock button.
Being a lefty, I wish you could turn the screen on using the volume buttons instead.

I can. Hold them for a second and the screen should turn on when you release them. If it doesn't let me know I'd like to investigate further.

Nope, not working. It turns it on using NoLock but then that just changes the volume too.
Im running Darkys 7 btw.

Holding the volume button does not turn on the screen, you probably touched the power button with you middle finger which holding the volume button with your thumb.
Widget Locker
Try the app WidgetLocker--it's a couple bucks but lets you turn on the screen with the volume buttons if you want (any hardware button). It will also let you customize your lockscreen with widgets and unlock the screen using the soft keys at the bottom if you so desire.
Mentioned this app in previous threads, should really start getting a cut from the developer.

You really should believe people when they say something works. Just because your rom works one way doesn't mean anything about everyone else.
Now if someone would give me a link to the roms which don't unlock due to the volume buttons, I might be able to fix that.
lmao love the music

I am not using a custom ROM. Maybe some custom ROM has that feature added but it definitely does not work on stock AT&T ROM.
Works on stock 2.2 Froyo leak ROM

That's not a stock ROM by any means.
I wish the volume buttons were lower on the case. I have a tendency to squeeze them with my finger when pressing the power button one-handed.

[Q] How to take care of power button?

Hi guys! I am buying a Nexus One. I just read about the power button problem. I wanted to know if there is any way that I could take care of my power button so that it does not break. I also wanted to know if there was a possible way of remapping the power button, for example the power button dies out on me, I could use the Volume up button to power on my device (cold boot).
Well that depends if you're running stock ROM or rooting and installing a custom ROM. I'm gonna assume you're gonna root and say to get a ROM with trackball root. This way you can unlock with the trackball and save your power button. You can also get a one of many apps that lets you lock the phone from a homescreen widget.
If you're not planning on rooting you could install GoLocker which would let you unlock with the volume rocker. Think the locking widgets should still work too.
Hope that helps.
I read somewhere that pressing the power button from the side closest to the headphone jack would also prevent damage to it. Is this true? I haven't really gotten my N1 yet so it's kind of hard to visualize how the power button works on it.
Yeah like addam360 stated, I use CM7 ROM with trackball unlock/trackball wake.
Barely use my power button. There's also app like Quickboot which let me reboot or reboot to recovery without having to use the button.
CM7 ROM also have an option to shut down via widget.
As for which side to push I really couldn't tell you.

I've had my N1 for over a year with no power button issues - Check out my signature; I did a huge long post explaining my reasoning.

So that's where I got the info of pressing closest to the audio jack. Thanks very much for the info. So what if I were to place a thin piece of paper between the trace and the plastic power button head so that it does not press down on the trace? Do you think this will help preserve the trace?
I have had my nexus one for a year and 8 months, I haven't payed attention to where I click the button and its still working properly.

Mine failed around that time. Luckily still under warranty so HTC fixed it. (Audio jack went at same time and fixed also)

If anything, that would probably push the trace down more every time you pressed the power button. If you really want to try a fix, see about grinding down the part of the power button above the trace - that way you won't accidentally press it on the wrong side.
I'm using an EVO 3d so I don't have insight for the N1 but I do know moving parts break. It's one reason I think slideout keyboards are retarded. But most aosp roms allow trackball wake. Me personally I think my volume down is going out. Scrolling in recovery to my download folder is like 16 presses lol. Lucky for me I can get a new back cover and be back to new.

Long press of Home button awake the phone

Can HTC add on a feature that when the screen are off, a long press of HOME button awake the phone rather than keep pressing the POwer button as most of the power button are flushed or worse... Not very convenient when power back the screen.
Like S4, press the home button awake the phone.
pretty sure some of the kernel already includes this feature

Go to the HTC One Original Developement page, which is here http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=2120
Then look for threads that start with [KERNEL]. Just make sure you find one that matches your ROM, e.g. Sense or ASOP.

Download Cover Algorithm from playstore. There's a trial and a paid version
Works wonderfully with a flip cover, works in pocket mode as well. Haven't touched my power button since installing it...

2 things I really miss from the kitkat days......

I miss the embedded recorder and screenshot!
Does anyone have any ideas? I did find an app on GP for recording (prefer embedded) but have not had any luck with finding a screenshot that actually works...
tis,
gbh
Screenshot is suppose to be power button + volume down. Works for me.

Caused by datamining. The dev's at Google know about the use of features. The majority seems not to use this.
Same with a dark theme. It is easy to embed. But it's not in Android.
We are probably a minority.
@Getabiggerhammer:
Screenshot: Power + Volume Down
Screen Record: Power + Volume Up
@NLBeev: They're still present. The devs at Google simply can't code their way out of wet paper bags.
Thanks everyone,
Yes I tried the volume down+power and the volume down+ home neither seem to work though. If I knew how to root my old plum phablet it had an extra button added to take snaps that worked flawlessly on 4.2. I was hoping someone might know of code floating around somewhere or an app, but then that might not help me anyway since there must be some other issue going on if you all can get it to work and I cant.

You just have to press the two buttons at exactly the same time, and keep them pressed for around half a second. It won't work if you happen to press either button a little bit before the other.
