I have the LG Windshield mount, and it is rugged. It holds strong, has a cut out for the camera, so you can record while going down the road. Also it has a bump for the extended battery.
Thats alot! Do you recall how much and where you got it?

ummm...I think it was $25 at the Verizon Store
I have the window mount and while I'm impressed that the phone stays in the mount very well even with the vzw extended battery, I've found that in a sports car (I have an old MG, sort of like a Miata) there is a lot of "wobble" that sometimes makes it difficult to clearly read the screen directions etc. YMMV.
My girlfriend has the Revo w/window mount. It is a good product. It sticks well, almost too well. We have to use a small, thin item (credit card or nail file) to get it to pop off of the plastic stick down base pad, even when the lock tab is up...

Can you use any GPS app beside the Verizon Navigator? I can't seem to figure out how to make my default nagivation app as Navigon. I'd even Settle for Google Navigator

yah??? Try going to Google Maps. Find a destination. Then Navigate to it. When you select that you want to go there, Google Maps should ask you which navigation program you want to use. If it doesn't you have set one as your default already. Go into Settings>Applications>All(if given that option)>Program (the program, that you have set as your default) and then hit clear default and you will be clear.
Then go back click that you want to navigate to where ever, Google then will ask you what program you would like to use.
Now, if you are a white dude, Navigation will always, take you to the nearest trailer park. If you are a black dude, it will take you to the nearest Popeyes. If you are by chance Latino, it will find the nearest front yard so you can park.
When you install Google Maps you automatically get Navigation Beta, should be in your app drawer.. looks like a blue arrow pointing up.
A question for the masses.. Has anyone found a case for the LG Revo such as a gel or silicone, or even plastic case that is thin enough and will still fit in the OEM LG/VZW Car Dock??
I went to the Verizon store and asked about the mount about 3 months ago. I asked the sales person if the phone would fit in the mount with the case i have (shell and holster) of course he said yes...bought it didnt fit so now im taking it outta the shell every time i want to use it...but overall its nice shakes a little but i like it.
I find that the window mount shakes a lot, but the most annoing part is its not that adjustable. I came from an Incredible and the mount for it was very adjustable, but the one for the revo you can only pivot the anlge.
How about Asians?
The Mount is now only 7.49 at the VZW store!

It will not clear the extended battery. Or a case. I have been really happy with my window mount... except when i have to take my case off to mount my phone in the holder.
I cant post links but I like to stay away from window mounts, never really worked for me in the past, and so i found this website proclipusa.com where i could get the mount and put it somewhere else in my car, it can be near the shift or up where the clock is, etc. works great, easy to install, and i love it.

Anyone using a car mount with this yet? I've seem some generic looking ones on ebay. Hoping for one that will work in a cup holder rather than suction cupping to the window. I also dislike the idea of using an adjustable goose neck (like the floor mount uses) because of past experience with an eeepc on one of those. It didn't hold the eeepc still.
Anyone using one?

did a search and didn't find anything. I saw a video on youtube but I couldn't make out how it mounted. I'll look for that thread.
couldn't find the thread... link?
Ordered this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=400192057990
Hopefully it will work. The guy selling them said it is very sturdy and shouldn't be a problem and comparing my eeepc to the nook, the nook is much much lighter. maybe it will handle the gooseneck.
I'm curious, are you using it as a GPS? Or perhaps as MP3 player? Both? please let us know how that mount works. I'd love to turn my nook into a car navigation and mp3 player.

yes I am. I have to rig up some car charger power for it now.
I worried over how I was going to mount mine for quite a while, then I realized I could use a storage compartment already built into my '05 Altima. It's the perfect location above the radio, right where I'd want my navi to be anyways. The compartment door opens up all the way and allows the Nook to sit right in between it and the bottom of the compartment. I use a BN silicone case so I don't scratch it, but it's the perfect fit and there's no way it can fall out. Just thought I'd show off with a pic, it looks really sweet at night especially.

Hey guys, I found this in the Droid 3 section. This mount seems pretty sick. I may just cave and buy it. Up to now I have kept modifying my car mount from my original droid. I made it work for my d2, and now (kinda..) my bionic. But it is not as secure anymore.
This looks nice!
That actually does look sweet! I wonder how it holds up and how long the suction holds.

It looks sweet. The only problem I see is the clip looks wide. Going off the dimensions of the iPhone 4 it looks to be about 1 1/8 inch wide. If you clip it on the side you will have to cover the charging port or volume down button since there is only about an inch of room there. It says it can accommodate up to a a 5" screen so you might be able to clip it top to bottom. I might still go ahead and get it and mod it if I have to. Good find.

Why do you call those docks "junk"
Perhaps, people don't want to buy device specific car docks every time they get a new device.
Does look pretty nice, the only thing I see is that it would take both hands at an awkward angle to to squeeze the back then mount the phone...instead of just placing the phone in the cradle with the oem dock.

This looks great for someone who has a family that might not all have the same smartphone. I'd much rather have this in my two cars so that it doesn't matter which car I drive, I can still mount my Bionic and my wife can mount her Droid 3.
I just got this one yesterday. Gotta say, I'm pretty dissapointed. Jiggles around quite a bit, even though it's locked down tight. The suction cup mount holds very well though.

This is awesome. I wonder how dependable it is? I need something that I can depend on for my motorcycle. Do you think it would work if I have a Body Glose case with the swivel clip? (Obviously just the nub would be on the phone, not the whole clip)
The one Made by Motorola for the Driod Bionic, only cost 10$ more. Plus to charges the phone, and activates the Dock App.
The on in the OP looks like a Giant clothes pin with a suction cup attached to it. It would come in handy for phones that dont have car mount made for them.

I don't know but I know they use this sticky technology in things like clean room door mats to take dirt off your shoes for entering a sterile environment. The sticky never runs out, you just wipe it with a damp cloth. As far as on a motorcycle...well I won't make any guarantees.
I've used the Arkon Mobile Grip with my Sensation and it works great, I've recommended it to others on xda and elsewhere and they've been happy with it.
I've tested it with the Infuse and it fits with room to spare, so it'll work with the Bionic.
I have the motorola car mount and it recently started to mess up (the car charger chord doesn't fully connect to the car mount thus no charging unless directly connected to bionic) this one looks nice I'm going to buy...FYI its on Amazon for under 20

I have to say, these are pretty bad ass universal docks... Why go device specific.. I understand that its just the same price, but the Bionic for some of us isn't the first phone we'd mount in our car... So its actually a savings... Plus, the cardock app isn't GREAT, the google car home is universal...
I went with the Clingo
before this I used the Universal VZW vent mount and the DroidX Car Mount... Both IMO sucked and Bulky-

Anybody know if there is a car mount available that is either specific to the Holiday, or one that is universal but works just as well? I want to try iOnRoad:
Not that I need it, because I'm a good driver.. lol just curious as to how well it works. Plus, I use navigation on occasion and it would be nice to have a real mount rather than propping the phone up on the dash or holding it.

Awesome. But, you know, I can't really Google any car mounts Vivid users have already tried out and experienced for themselves. Because even though I have, I haven't found any. So that's really why I asked. Nice try, though.

next time, maybe you should check the google links before trying to be funny... you know... the ones that don't actually have mounts for the vivid...
thanks.
While they don't have one for the Vivid/Raider yet, I've always used ProClip mounts (Brodit outside of North America). They come in two pieces, one custom fit to the vehicle and one custom fit to the phone, and I like it very much. I've emailed them to see if they'll make a Vivid mount, but they gave the standard "We don't know what our plans are" answer. If people are interested, email them, maybe if they get enough questions, they'll actually make one!
The ProClips are ok. I've used them before. However, I've really grown to like the Scosche universal that you can find at Walmart. It uses two small bottom feet and has sticky gel on the back to hold the phone.
It comes with a windshield mount. When the gel loses its stick, just clean it with a damp rag. Mine has lasted through three cellphones and going.
Kensigton Universal Car Mount
I just bought this a few weeks ago and it work excellent with the Vivid, it holds the phone securely and has very minimalist design. To remove the phone from the holder is just a press of a button. I used the vent clip mounting option, as I prefer not to obstruct the windshield with anything. Below is the link to the product page on Amazon, which is where I bought it from.

I picked up a thunderbolt dock last night at Verizon (only $10) cut off the left side (farthest from plug) and it fits and world really well, im ganna add some foam to the back so it fits in better and more securely.
I am actually using a Kensington iPhone car mount (can't post a link yet) granted my Vivid isn't in a case but its only about $10 on Amazon and it holds the phone snugly while given access to the charging port and can rotate from lanscape to portrait easily.
The only issue I have is that the mic on this phone is so weak that I can't be heard on the phone if I answer on speakerphone while driving. Does anyone know a fix for this?

Anyone know if htc makes different cradles for their car docks? I recently looked at an htc car mount/ dock for an evo 3d and it looks like an amazing mount with superior quality. I found a way to take off the evo 3d specific "cradle" and was wondering why they designed it that way if I couldn't find any other cradles online. It would totally make sense if I could go to a parts website and just buy the cheap cradle part. The mount is clearance at Best Buy so this would be the best inexpensive option I think.

Ive actually been in the market for a vent mount myself. I dont like window mounts mainly because they put your phone where it's sitting right in the sun the entire time its in the mount. Vent mounts help some to keep it out of the sun. I haven't bought one yet, but I plan to in the near future. However, before I do, I think I'm going to try this first. Found it in another thread, thought I'd share it here too.
http://lifehacker.com/5747897/how-to-build-a-car-mount-for-your-cellphone-from-office-supplies
My personal favorite is still the Mountek.
My first mount for my Inspire was a mountek. It worked great for what it is. I read somewhere that:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0052G6IRG/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00
can be modified to fit the phone. Mine is due to arrive tomorrow and found this thread looking for the other thread lol. IIRC you have to modify (or cut off for the less handy) the portion of the mount that curves around the top of the phone (mic jack area). No worried as the USB port with firm top/bottom clamping should hold the phone from lateral movement in landscape modes. I definately would not try to have it hold the phone upside down when modified.
Try a type similar to the Rocketfish Universal mount...
Hi guys,
Just recently got the Vivid. Best Buy sells the Rocketfish Universal mount for about $25 or so. I'm sure there's something similar out on the web...I like this mount because I can move the arms/feet around the buttons and still secure the phone in mount. Useful if you have a GPS (like google navigate doesn't do a fair job) or another phone that you swap in and out with...
Would love to find a mount suitable for a '95 Honda VT1100 (though with some velcro strapping the Rocketfish would work. Any suggestions there?

Does yours allow the phone to actually charge properly? Mine it just slowly drains, figured I would see what your results were before dropping even more money on yet another cig lighter to usb port. My current one is spec'd to 500mA so if its functioning its provides the juice.
EDIT: Tested in car mode attached directly to the charger and it still slowly drained. must not be the dock then :/

So I received this today, it was selling for local sellers for $15+ but I found it from this seller for under $3 (inc shipping!), I couldn't justify the outrageous markup, and ordered from HK, came in 2 weeks. It comes with a plastic adhesive disk you can use to mount it to your dashboard. The phone holder part is connected to the mount using a really sturdy ball joint which basically allows quite a bit of freedom when adjusting the position of the phone.
I was hesitant because I've purchased other mounts before that were more expensive, and they either didn't stick as well as I liked, or were too loose, or didn't give me the flexability I wanted. For under $3 I'd figure I'd try it, and I'm glad I did. It is IMO the best mount I've used. It really sticks! On glass I had a hard time taking it off, and using the sticky disc on my dash, it's pretty much stuck there. Very low profile too! You are able to position it so I have the phone coming down over the vents.
It's very stable, I've taken it over speed bumps, and I do not have a soft riding car, and it's stuck, even some of these bumps causes my Garmin GPS mount to fall off the windshield sometimes!
I'll have to take some pictures, probably take some tomorrow and post them up.
[edit]Pictures are up
They are not the best pictures, it's really early in the morning here, taken from my garage, in my car, from the driver's seat using an DSLR and a large flash...very cumbersome...I adjusted the settings to have the flash bounce off everything as minimal as possible.
I positioned the mount so where the phone sits is in front of vents for VERY easy access to the phone, (putting it on the windshield makes it too far to use), useful for navigating, or passenger music selection. The holder (where the phone sits) can be rotated 360 degrees, so I could have the phone in portrait instead of landscape. To be able to place the phone in front of the vents was the major reason for buying this mount, it's where I want my phone to be. Oh and it doesn't block the vents (at least that much) as you can still position them, potentially an issue for passengers in the rear though...
I wonder if they have improved it. my experience with this mount in the past was it wouldn't hold the weigjt of the phone.
glad to know it's working!
Sent from my SPH-L900 using xda app-developers app
Without the adhesive disk, the mount won't really hold to the dashboard or a wooden desk with the note 2...but will attach to glass and hold and hold and hold. It holds on to the adhesive disk the same as it holds onto glass.
thank you for sharing..

Lol @ nikes.
I didn't like suction cup mounts either (esp because the OEM garmin one I have falls off regularly...and I've tried others that have failed as well...and I don't like the vent ones because 1) they don't like my vents 2) they prevent the vent from being adjusted...this is the only one I've used that really works (YMMV) but for under $3 it's not much of a gamble.
would like to see pictures of this with note ii it does NOT look very secure.
it is positive hold or positive release? how much wider can it go (picture with note two and arms spread wide as possible? (ie can I put note ii in a case ?)
right now I am using a igrip (you can get them oem for $13) the nice german made ones.
its positive release (bad) but it holds nicely and the note ii in case is so wide it BECOMES a positive hold since you have to force the note ii into it to make it fit but the result is its VERY secure and I love the arm and mount.
Here is the igrip in the minivan
would love to see some pics of your note II in this holder you linked too !
Its $2.85 US. He isnt reviewing a $30 mount. If you dont like it or, dont trust it, move on.
IMO less than $3 isnt much of a gamble. If you own a Note 2 you shouldnt be sweating $3. If you are, well getting a note 2 was a much worse financial decision than buying a $3 car mount.

Not sure what you mean about positive hold or positive release...but it's a spring loaded clamp and you have to pull on it to fit the note 2 in, and it clamps on the note 2, I have a TPU case (S-curve, which is another under $3 you can find on ebay, and IMO it's the best plain TPU case i've used as well, and I've spent lots of money on cases in the past, it's got good grip, more rigid than other TPU cases, and is soft enough to absorb shocks...back on topic)

I've used plenty of expensive mounts in the past, and I live in Australia a country where stores have very poor return policies and seriously I love this mount the most because of the ways you can position it, but I only have it in one position because that's where actually want it.
Pictures are in the first post as attachments
Dakota. OFF the caffeine. Now go sit in the corner dill the DT's wear off and come back when your normal again and its not about the price its about the 3 weeks shipping time to "find out" when a couple questions can possibly save me 3 weeks waiting
Daemos. I am not sure HOW I missed that picture. VERY slick and low profile looking. Does it open any wider? ie as wide as it goes how much gap is their (I have a pretty thick case around my note II)
how does it hold up in portrait ?
positive hold is where you have to force the arms apart and it clamps down naturally on the phone IE its always trying to "squeeze" the phone.
positive release is like the one in my picture. you press a button and it snaps open you then compress the arms onto your phone. its always trying to OPEN the arms (positive release) an gears inside "lock" it onto your phone.
when you BUMP a positive hold nothing happens most times. if you bump a positive release enough to "trip" the mechanism or jump gears it "releases" your phone since its always trying to OPEN and well there goes your $650 Note II
thats the difference between positive hold and positive release. if by pull on it that means you have to OPEN the arms to get the phone in (ie its trying to close on you) thats GOOD that is positive hold.
Might have to order me a couple of these to play with I REALLY love how "low profile" it is. might be a good camera mount too !!

Oh I just posted the pictures! Lol! You didn't miss anything
And yes it is Positive hold, very strong hold.
I will test the mount more thoroughly later and report back.
Looks good, and at least I know it will fit nicely in my Subaru

ahh good thought I was going whacky there
good, strong hold is very good be sure to see how much more "room" it has for something bigger (if thats not already the max) ie can it go half inch biggger etc..
the problem with expensive mounts is they are actually $3 mounts designed well with good quality control.
SO if you can find the cheap mount with the same good design .....
problem with my igrip I pictures is that you have to FORCE the note II into the mount with case. with plastic style cases not an issue but lately I am loving the wood bamboo cases I got. the igrip scratches them (them arm wings have plastic LIPS that you have to "get past" to put it in and take it out. this is good since that keeps the phone from falling out forward. but since I am slightly over what its designed to hold these lips TOUCH the case in insertion and remove with some force ie scratching the wood.
so I am looking for alternatives

This looks like a Chinese knockoff of an iOttie mount:
If you feel comfortable buying Chinese counterfeit stuff, then go ahead. Just letting people know.
The bad thing about the vent mounts is that, depending on the design, the phone usually blocks airflow to the driver or passenger and if the heat is on this heats up the phone generally depending on whether or not the vent can be completely shut off.

I'm 100% sure it's not a iottie design, as I've seen this exact same mount sold under different brand names (BBM in South Korea). There are times (many times esp for low cost items) where Chinese factories design the mounts/products, pitch them to different clients, who then apply their own branding for their specific market/region.
So...in the end they pay even less than what you'd pay on ebay...but charge you way more. So if you are happy getting ripped off by companies who charge lots of money for very little innovation...go for it.
To answer questions:
The width of the note 2 + my case seems to be the mounts physical limit for opening.
In portrait it holds just as good as landscape.
However, I have found if you use the mount as shown in the iottie, it seems firm, but not as stable as the position I have, but I don't plan to use it that way as the other way works better for me.
I have the OEM Quick Window Case for the Verizon version of th G2 and I really like it, but as many people here I hate the fact that it won't stay closed, so I wanted to ask you guys, has anybody modded the case in any way to make it stay closed? Maybe putting a thin magnet on the flap (I don't know if this would affect the phone) or some other clever method that I may be overlooking. I'm not looking for an air tight seal, just so I can set the phone on a desk and have the flap stay down.
I was looking on other threads but I could't find anything about this so I think either nobody has done it or at least hasn't posted about it.
I just stored the empty case upside down for a few days which I guess forced the hinge to learn to stay in that position. The door/flap was tucked slightly inside the case during this time, this probably helped as it was in a position beyond closed. I'll try to post a picture shortly when I get home for lunch.
I've wondered about adding magnets to the case as well. I really like the looks and function of the case but have held off because of what I have been hearing about the case not staying closed. I don't want my screen going off and on all day because the case doesn't stay shut.
Buy nillkin casing,it got small magnet attached to it, ive already order it, waiting to arrive

The screen doesn't really go on and off. If you have it sitting on a desk it just stays open enough to be anoying (because you see it open and your OCD might kick in) but not enough to make the screen turn on. If you have it in your pocket then it's usually closed since there's not really a lot of room for it to move in there.

This sounds like a good solution, but I doubt it will work long term. How long has it been?

Looks good but it doesn't seem to be available for the Verizon version.
This is a little off topic, but for those that do have the quickwindow case, do you know if the music controls on the outside work with 3rd party music players or google music, or is just the stock music player?

My understanding (via reading threads) is the the music controls only work with the stock player, there is no integration with google music (at least on the Verizon variant).

That may be the nail in the coffin for me. I use google music as my main music player. I also use beyondpod for my podcasts. I was hoping it would be like the lockscreen which allows for controls regardless of media player. It seems they overlooked quite a few details related to this case.
I can confirm it only works with stock music. Only way to get 3rd party support would be a custom row, and even that's a long shot.

Completely agree. Especially since these are expensive cases and there doesn't seem to be any 3rd party (at least for the Verizon version) that are less than $45. So, I in the same boat as you, too limited in functionality to justify the cost.
I'm pretty sure the Verizon model is the same as the others. There is a thread here where a guy measures all of the variants with a fine measuring device and they are all the same size and thickness.
To my understanding, the only difference on the Verizon is the buttons are smaller, which on a generic case, will leave a little extra gap around the buttons, but should still fit.
Right, but that's not really the point though. I'm trying to find a way to keep the case closed but it doesn't have to be specifically for the Verizon model. If we come up with a way it would surely apply to all cases.
I know I'm a bit late to the party, but since I'm sure people spent a bunch of money on the case, I'll offer what worked for me.
I noticed that the case wasn't laying flush against the left side of the phone...so I stuffed the case full of paper towel (to stretch out that area) and then ran a hair dryer over the part that wraps around the left side for about 10 minutes. It got 100% better after doing this one time. It might sound crazy, but it worked for me and I didn't have to mess with any magnets or anything else.
I hope it helps!
