I have searched for a few hours and can't find anyone with a similar issue.
I have my 2.2 captivate rooted and unlocked with CWM and TB installed. Got the Cyanogen 7 zip install on my sd card.
Loaded CWM Recovery and backed up my rom.
Restarted and went to CWM to Install Rom from SDCard
It doesn't point to the SD card, however. It starts in the Internal storage, so i choose external_sd/ then the update file
it boots into recovery, formats the phone, but gives me the "No such File or Directory" message with the path set to SDCARD External SD Update.zip(Cyanogen install)
So it thinks my internal storage is my SD card?
So its pointing to the wrong directory, but i cant find an option anywhere to make it go through the right directory.... help?
sorry, mods please delete.
It is installable througn CWM,

Harder way:
Make sure you're running a Eclair/Froyo Firmware (2.1 or 2.2) and Eclair/Froyo Bootloaders!
Root your device and install ClockworkMod Recovery.
Do a Nandroid backup!
WIPE (wipe data/factory reset + wipe cache partition)
Install the ROM from internal sdcard using ClockworkMod Recovery
Optionally install the Google Addon (through ROMManager is easiest)

Try taking out your external sd before you flash, and if you have anymore problems post in the CM7 Q&A thread

I am running rooted 1.1, and want to create a backup before I take the plunge on CM7. I reboot using Clockwork Recovery via ROM Manager, and access the backup menu.
This is what always happens:
Reboot into recovery
Choose Backup and Restore
Choose Backup
......
ClockworkMod Recovery v3.0.1.0
SD Card space free: 949MB
Backing up boot...
Backing up system...
Can't mount /system!
I then go back out and choose 'Mounts and Storage' to try to manually mount the volumes. From here I can see that /cache and /sdcard is mounted, but I cannot mount /system or /data.
Any ideas??? I really want to back up my my stock unit before trying CM7...

1.1 functions with clockwork 3.0.0.5. I don't think you will get a backup with 3.0.1.0 because it writes to a different partition. You may need to burn 0.5 to an sd card or revert to 0.5 do your backup and then reload 1.0.

The oldest version I could find in ROM Manager was 3.0.0.6. I reverted to that version, but it did not work any better. Now when I tell it to reboot, it will only reboot back into recovery, I cannot get it to reboot back into Eclair. I never had a problem rebooting out of recovery mode on 3.0.1.0. What the heck is going on? I did make sure no SD cards were in during the reboots.
I did go download an offline copy of 3.0.0.5 to try from SD, but I need to get back into Eclair so I can update my Nook to use the older CWR via ADB...
Here's your answer!
Hey, I had this exact problem. Here is the solution:
1) Download the .zip update for ClockworkMod 3.0.1.0 and put it on your SD
2) Flash CWM from ROM Manager (NOT the "old" one, just the regular one)
3) Reboot to CWM
4) From CWM, install the .zip CWM update file
Reboot to android, then reboot to recovery (using ROM Manager or whatever other means you like, doesn't matter) and you'll be able to do a backup.
Hope this helps!

i found an sd bootable versionof CWM, it as 3.0.0.5, but said it was 1.1 compatable. I booted off SD, and this copy worked. I backed up, formatted, and flashed the new ROM. However, as soon as I removed the SD and rebooted, it took me right back to the CWM that is on my eMMC! What gives???
I still cannot reboot back into android
ClockworkMod Recovery v2.5.1.0 will not mount /sd-ext and now I cannot get my ROM installed on to the phone.
everything inside the phone has been formated
I think the next step should be to update recovery to the latest version and see if it recognizes the sd card. If this is the case I'm not real clear how to go about doing this. , or if there is an alternative way to load a ROM.
Any help would be appreciated
As an alternative u could flash (through Odin) a Dev Kernel that has CWM baked in, reboot into CWM and flash ur Rom from there. Ur choice of Kernel is dependent on what Rom ur wanting to go to... Froyo, Gingerbread, i897, i9000, etc. [as a side note, if u want a gingerbread rom, u will need gingerbread bootloaders]
I'm not sure how to flash through Odin (ill look that up) any other recovery on my phone at this point, i've always had a rom installed any time I change or update a recovery.
Let us know how it turns out.
Why are you trying to install a Rom from the external SD card? From cwm, click on mounts and storage, mount usb, copy your Rom to the internal sd card

can you explain with some more detail the process of coping the rom to the internal sd card? I know that cwm can recoginze the internal sd card and if I get the rom on there I'm sure I can get this phone working.

reboot to recovery
plug phone into computer
'mounts and storage'
'mount usb storage'
copy rom of your choice from your computer to the drive that now shows up on your computer
unmount
in cwm recovery, browse to INSTALL ZIP FROM SDCARD
point it to the rom you just copied to the internal sdcard
confirm
after flash reboot...new rom
Thanks to Pirateghost & For2ndTwin for you input. Pirate, what you suggested worked like a champ and I now have the phone working.
I tried to flash doc's V8 ROM but after all the wipes when i choosed "Instal zip from sd card" I got the error that no file found, and when I tried to reboot the recovery he said can't mount sdCard ... what should I do???
please I searched and did'nt know what to do ....
Can you get into download mode? If so you would be best to install a stock samsung firmware using odin , then root and start again.
Did that, again after flashed stock and wipe before installing the rom when I tried to choose zip from sd card, the same thing happend... "no files found"... what should I do??
have you copied the file to your internal sdcard?
To the Sdcard... after flashing stock rom and putting semaphore kernel I have the ability to install zip from sdcard , but if I wanna change the rom I should wipe the factory + cache + dalvik + format system... after I do the factory wipe, I can't Install anything from sd card, I get the error that no files found... what to do?
Tried something..
I tried just install zip from sd card over the stock 2.3.6 , I installed the Doc's Rom , and it works, but I didn't wiped anything... Is it ok?
Should I act diffrently ???
If it`s all working i would just leave it as is...it is good to wipe but not always needed . check that your cwm is the latest version or reflash another version through the app to see if that resolves your zip files not showing up .
I can install now zip from SDCARD but I think that If I would do a full wipe I won't be able to do that..
looks like i am in a big problem here.
i tried to use Clockwork to wipe and install a new rom, but after wipe dalvik, cache and data, i cant update the rom.
i tried to use too diferent zips i have in my sd, but i get a error.
trying "applying a zip from sd card" and "choose zip from sd", i can't enter in the "_external sd" folder, it just return to the previous folder (internal sd) and there is only a "update.zip" there wich i don't know what it is. I had the hope it was a update i did with rom manager but this zip doesn't work too.
if i try the roms that are in the clockwokrmod folder, i get "no files found" and i have to folders inside clockworkmod folder.
what i should try?
now when i click in any option stuk with a image of the exclamation and the Android the android dummy ((((
edit: oh, the menu is back, but i still don't know what to do.
Did you try flash another ROM for odin?

i restarded the ox2. I see sd, system and data was unmonted. But even with this mounted don'est work. I am not able to enter in the dir _external sd.
but in the clockwork folder in the internal sd i have 2 backups and they doesn't work too "no files found"
I restarted it now in normal mode and the system is there, just in default mode, asking me to configure, etc.
If i wiped data, cache and everything, where was the files that allowed this rom to "survive"? At least i can use the phone today. I am almost giving up of flash the rom
Please help, why clockwork did not recognize any zip? looks like it was not able to enter any directory
I think you need to select install zip from internal sd. That is the only way I found to install the .zips on my _ExternalSD folder.
BTW, I won't be able to restore the CWM backup because needs to be on an external SD.
I hope it helps.

Sounds like it's a case of switched mounting points, try install from internal sd.

the problem is that it was accessing any folder, even in internal sd. I don't if the app was able to recognize that there was not a valid file inside the folder or was really a error.
i am almost giving up. Thinking in change only baseband, as i believe it is safer than chaging a rom.
i don't understand how/where the device was able to boot with a "new" rom after the reboot. I thought after clear data, cache and factory reset was like formating Windows in pc. And the last command when i was in clockwork was a simple reboot, not recovery, etc.
Did you put the .zip on your external sd card? In that case, you should go to mounts and storage and select mount sdcard. If it is already mounted, unmount and mount it again. It helps in some cases. Works for me at least, I cannot guarantee that it will work for you.
Hi, i recentry rooted my samsung s3 mini for installing the new kitkat rom.
So, i followed the steps, saved the new ROM on my external sd card and formated the system.
The problem is this: when i was browsing the zip file with the ROM on the costume recovery menu (I have ClockworkMod Recovery v6.0.2.7), a message appears saying "no files found".
So now I can´t reebot my phone beacause it has no OS and I don't know how to fix this. Can anyone help me?
Thanks

Never, ever format the system.
If you're on stock just do that:
1-Reboot in recovery
2-Choose Wipe data/factory reset
3-Flash cm rom
4-Flash gapps
5-Reboot
Done, that's it.
If you want to update cm roms (or any rom):
1-Reboot in recovery
2-Flash cm update
3-Choose Wipe cache & dalvik cache
4-Reboot
Done.
You don't need to mess up with anything more.
P.S. better use twrp 2.7 from novafusion, for better compatibility.

Thanks but it still doesn't work. I want to flash the rom but the rom file its in the external sd card and it says that there are no files found. And when i hook up the phone to my pc the phone is detected, however I can´t acess the sd card.
Maybe if there's a way for me to acess the ext. sd card and change the rom file for the internal memory it would work. Do you know how can i do this?

Euhm, it might be a weird idea, but you take your external SD-card, put it in your card reader, connect the card reader to your pc, and copy the zip to (let's say) the root of the SD-card
CWM should be fine, but I'm used to TWRP. You can find it on the novafusion website. (search novafusion TWRP)
If you can't boot into CWM or TWRP, or files still don't show up on the browsermodule in the recovery rom, you still have the possibility to flash your ROM using odin. Check the installation guide on novafusion, it gives you a link to all the files you need and a detailed description how to install your rom.
