Hello,
I've downloaded the android Netflix application from :
androidtablets.net/forum/android-tablet-news/19291-download-netflix-1-3-working-honeycomb-tablets
and it worked. However, the application only appears in a third of the screen in a window. Just like I had a phone sitting on my Ziio tablet playing netflix. The Ziio is a 7" tablet with a resolution of 800x480. I've tried to look at the apk through winrar but for those files I could open there was mention of width and height but no numbers.
I'm hoping someone can help. This appears to be the right forum to post this inquiry since my tablet is not listed and not a phone. Thank you.
I'm running Android 2.2

How do you fix Apps and Games that don't stretch full screen in Landscape Mode on Nook Color? I installed Mini Squadron and Shoot U and when I try to view them in Landscape Mode, they don't stretch full screen like for instance, Angry Birds. Is there a setting I have to change on the Nook Color? Do I have to do the Spare Parts trick like the Samsung Galaxy Tab? Just curious if anyone found the solution to this. Kinda sucks because I like that game Shoot U
UPDATE: I fixed the issue. I researched the Fullscreen Compatibility Mode fix for the Samsung Galaxy Tab on YouTube using Spare Parts and followed the steps to fix my landscape issues for some apps/games. Here is the link to the YouTube video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zasSIA7sexM
Be sure to follow the steps completely which include the 2 reboots. Do not skip any steps in the video because it won't work if you do. List of games that I got fix:
- Robo Defense - Before fix, the screen would stay in 4:3 aspect ratio mode and I couldn't see my robots to drag on the screen. After fix, the screen loads full screen with robots accessible.
- Shoot U - Before fix, the screen would stay 4:3 aspect ratio. After fix, the screen utilizes the whole screen.
- etc.
Apps can set whether they do automatic stretching or not in the manifest file of the apk.
You could try to use APK manager (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695701) play around with the manifest file and repackage.
Fixed the issue
Full Screen Compatibility Mode fix with Spare Parts
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zasSIA7sexM
Fixed the issue. Folllow the steps in the YouTube video. Now, I just need to get the button re-mapping configuration setup and the Nook Color will be COMPLETE =)
This fix does not seem to fix the remote control on the xbmc app. Anybody get that to work?
Nevermind -- found it:
I can't seem to find a spare parts with the compatibility tick box. If it's copacetic, would someone post the apk here?

jerrygon,
I haven't used the XBMC app yet. I'll try to install it and see if I get the same issues like you. Again, follow the directions in the YouTube video step-by-step. Don't skip on any of the steps. It won't work if you skip steps. That is what I did first and it did not work until I followed the instructions completely.

DOH! I wish I would have read this full thread for a link
I ended up pulling the spareparts apk from the 2.1 system image that's included with the Android SDK (2.2 version wouldn't install).
Oh well, whatever works.
still buggy
i did this on my nc but brickbreaker still is a smaill screen not sure what i've done wrong. i followed the procedures correctly, still no go i'll try your apps when i get home maybe its just a doomed app
I've also tried this and still have many games run in a small screen and it doesn't stretch to the edges. Any ideas?
Same here

I did this too and my apps (read: games) are stretch, but instead of taking 50% of the screen, they take up 70% of the screen...
Thanks for the tips everyone, seems to do the trick for a few apps.
Worked great for robo defense, thanks!
Did anyone encounter this problem with Droid Comic Viewer (AVZ)? I am not with the nook now to try this solution but it seems like some people say AVZ works great and they didn't mention having to fix it to expand to full screen.
My mint.com app is also tiny.
I'm wondering if I can't get AVZ to work what method of viewing comics as either CBR or EPUB (by way of calibre) is best - I tried aldiko but I can't zoom in on any pages to read the small text.
What about the home screen in portrait mode? The widget icons on the sides are cut off? Is there a thread for resolution?
Just want to say the method in this video fixed the issue! At least for the comic book reader and for mint.com app which were very small. Much better. Well the comic book reader isn't exactly thrilling me, but at least I can try it out now.
The new Hulu Plus app just came out and I've got a gTab with the following in the about tablet section:
Model: TnT G-Harmony
And 2.2
Tap UI version: TnT G-Harmony v1
Kernel: 2.6.32.9-00000-10.8.2-dirty
Build: FRF91
I've used this as my daily for a while. What do I have to do to get the tab to be seen as compatible with Netflix and Hulu Plus app? new build.prop? Thanks in advance.
Not sure if it fully works as I don't have an account to log in with...
However, it did stream the "free gallery" on my Gtablet running CM7.03.
Netflix definitely works on CM7.03.
I do not see them in the Market but they have both been posted around. For Netflix I just download it on my Droid (supported device) and transfer it over to my Gtablet. For HuluPlus, Droid-life.com has the app.
I've got the apk, but I get 'Device not supported' post install. Could you just try the install to see if your build is supported/no errors?
I'm searching for my new daily build and wondering what's best combo for flash, netflix, hulu plus now and video playback in general. Want to stick to Froyo I think until HW acceleration is better implemented on later versions. Also, I see baseline 1.2 and Caulk+Clem for best kernel. I'm not advanced but can follow the steps to drop a new rom on. What's your opinion and could you point me to a solid daily rom noting above?
Like I said.....it installed and I was able to stream the "free gallery", I just can't log in to see if it gives all/full functions of those with an account.
Running stock CyanogenMod 7.0.3 (stable)
It runs fine for me without any noticible issues. I didn't have to modify the build.prop or anything else; just installed it without any tricks.
I just watched an episode of The Daily Show and it ran great. The video ran much smoother than watching it via the hacked Flash file via the Hulu website so I'm thinking the video player in the Hulu Plus app plays video modified for mobile devices unlike the Hulu website.
Here is the apk. Enjoy.
Note: If you have videos in your queue that are tagged as "web only" then this Hulu Plus app will not play them. So I would recommend keeping the hacked Flash for Hulu so you can watch them via the web browser.

For Netflix I used the latest version from the Market and it works great without any build.prop mods. Same for the Hulu Plus app (see my previous post for apk). I'm running CyanogenMod 7.0.3 (stable) haven't tried it on my VEGAn 5.1.1 gTab yet.
It definitely works on Cyanogen 7.0.3. Got Netflix, Hulu+, & Flash on my tablet now.
If Plants vs. Zombies wouldn't lock up & it would boot up faster, I would have reached tablet nirvana.
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk
For Hulu+, I see it in market using the mahimahi string in my build prop and the device set as olympus on a froyo rom based on calkulin 1.1. I too get device unsupported when launching.
For PvZ, you can get it working, but need froyo and this kernle: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1128866

Thank you for this apk. It works flawlessly for me on Vegan GE. With the netflix fix posted earlier in the link below, and now this hulu plus app I don't ever see me needing to leave Vegan GE. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15147560&postcount=13
so is there any way to get hulu+ working on froyo
hulu+ on Flashback 10.1
I've managed to get around the "device not supported" problem with hulu+ app working on flashback 10.1, but the video shows up in the bottom left hand corner with the top half of the vid cut off. I've tried setting the resolution of playback to every setting. I also tried different density settings for the display, nothing seems to be able to move the vid to the center of the screen. Anyone having the same problem? Anyone have any other ideas on how to get the video to the center of the screen? Sorry if this has been covered, did a search here and in the general questions sections, didn't see anything, I hope i didn't miss it...lol
I haven't tried it on Flashback but even if it works for you perfectly it will still limit what videos will play (only ones tagged "mobile") on it based on what agreements Hulu has with the content provider.
I stopped using the app on my gTab almost as soon as I installed it when I realized that I can play everything (tv, mobile, computer) Hulu has to offer via my browser and the hacked Flash for Hulu unlike the Hulu Plus app.
Just my two cents...

I don't think you missed anything. I've tried everything you have tried. The video doesn't move. I assumed that the app thinks this is an ASUS tablet which has a higher resolution. I tried editing build.prop but nothing has worked. Hopefully the new kernel will correct this for us. I cut off cable because of HULU and would like to have it on my tab as well. Just tired of looking at Froyo and Gingerbread.
up and running
Well i gave up on getting flashback to work right. Flashed CM7.1 and i have the hulu+ and netflix working...now onto get the hbo go and max go apps working.
A search through here revealed an unanswered question and this like: http://gigaom.com/mobile/so-i-turned-my-galaxy-tab-into-a-kindle-fire/
I am looking for a gingerbread tablet as I have a vicious and irrational dislike of HC/ICS' use of the taskbar and also because Amazon Video app only seems to work on gingerbread devices and is somewhat picky at that.
I have it installed on my Razr maxx but it won't play video even after downloading if I am not connected to wifi. The screenshots in the link are all done with wifi connectivity enabled and as such I cannot quite see if the same issue exists on the Galaxy Tab.
If any of you are able to test this out or can confirm that it works as it does on the Nook Tablet/Kindle Fire I would be greatly appreciative.

I also apologize in advance if this is the 10th time you have seen this question.
I'm researching whether I can root/convert a Kindle Fire HD7 into a single-use video player. I'm planning to ship the player to a client as part of a promotion my company is doing.
Here's what I'm hoping for:
The client opens up the box and sees the Kindle Fire.
The client turns the Kindle Fire on and the screen displays instructions to put the headphones on and then press play.
The client puts on the supplied headphones and presses play. The video plays.
The video finishes playing and returns to the previous screen.
I don't want apps, menus, settings, or anything else available. I just want it to do this one thing and do it perfectly without a hitch. The only thing that the client should be able to do is:
A. Turn the Kindle on.
B. Adjust the volume.
C. Watch the video as many times as they wish.
D. Turn the Kindle off.
This might be a long shot, and I've never rooted a device or worked with Android developers, but my cursory research has led me to this forum and I'd be eager to hear your input. I have a hunch that a rooted Kindle can achieve this.
If this would work better or be easier to achieve with another tablet (perhaps an older one) I would gladly entertain that possibility. My boss bought the Kindle Fire HD7 for this purpose so I'd like to at least give this a shot before throwing in the towel.
Your help is greatly appreciated!
I'm willing to bet you can accomplish this with a launcher.
You need to find a launcher you can
1: hide apps on
2: lock settings with password
Then I would simply hide all apps except your video app and lock the launcher
My initial thoughts are a child safe launcher those are very very customizable and usually lock out everything and are password protected.

Hello everybody.
For some time now I have the new Chromecast with Google TV and I would like to share my feelings on certain aspects that disappointed me and which scare me for the future of Android TV.
Android TV has always been a more closed system than Android but I have the impression with this new device that it is even more the case and that Google is trying to lock its system even more.
On the new device, if you want to install applications that are not on the play store, you must activate the options for developers, then start again several times to install these applications (it does not necessarily work the first time ).
I also noticed that a lot of Android apps didn't do image rotation or stretching and displayed vertically like a smartphone but with parts of the image cut off. Some Android apps are therefore not even usable now on the new Chromecast. I searched this new Chromecast for a setting that would help me display its Android apps properly but couldn't find anything.
Is there a setting to properly display its applications there? Are these only corrections that will be made in the next updates or is it, as I think, a desire by Google to limit Android TV more and more to Android TV applications?
Thank you for your many responses.
The orientation issue may have something to do with how the Android TV device is identifying itself. That could get fixed in a new release. Haven't dug in enough to know that yet. I haven't had any trouble installing stuff via side loading.
As for being locked down, Android TV certified devices are way more locked down than AOSP or even phones. I wish they'd put the Android TV portions (or even just the casting stack) into AOSP, but that ship has long sailed.

ok so you had no problem with Android applications. I may have had no luck with apps that started badly. Perhaps it is not Google's desire to prevent or complicate the use of applications that are not from the Android TV Play Store.
We will see if other users have this problem.
I too would have loved to have the cast on Android box.
Do you know of an application that allows you to rotate the image like you can find in the Ugoos box system?
From what I can tell, it is just as open** as my Nvidia Shield. Installing sideloaded apps is just as simple. Apps that do not have manual rotation options can be tricky, or those coded to be used in portrait mode only. Other than that, sideloading works identically. PS, you still need something like Sideload Launcher to launch these sideloaded apps.
Android TV/Google TV has always been very limited when it comes to customizability. Probably has a lot to do with the fact that Google assumed, and rightly so that, most consumers just want to plug it in and watch stuff, not mess around with it. Do I agree with that? No, I love making devices do things they weren't designed to, but even I have no reason or motivation to root these devices.
** = Equally as locked down.
Have you tried using a sceen rotation app? I use to use a modded spectrum tv app on fire tv and to fix rotation issue you had to use a screen rotation app.

I feel your pain.
That's Google 2020 for you, get ready for Google 2021 and 2022
I am thinking of replacing a fire tv stick 4k with the new Chromecast, hoping to gain bitstreaming audio from 3d party apps. It won't work for me on the amazon device.
I want to continue using wolf launcher and some sideloaded apps, which are not all available on the play store.
How much of free storage is available on the Cromecast?
Hey folks
I bought a Chromecast with Google TV and I am experiencing this same issue. I am trying to use an app which I know it wasn't developed for this device, but I know it works because have it installed on an Android TV. The difference is that on Google TV it opens as portrait and sits in the middle of the screen, where in the Android TV it expands and takes the whole screen. Same thing happens, for example, with Instagram. I've tried a dozen of apps that supposedly force the orientation, but it never worked.
Is there anything that can be done or am I am chasing ghosts?
(p.s. is it worth to post this as a new thread?)
