[Q] Barcode Scanner Problem [Froyo XXKB3] ---SOLVED - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I found other similar thread about barcode scanner but none of them mentioned my problem(may be have and I miss it?)
I flash my phone to XXKB3 long time ago then found that the barcode scanner won't work and showing ("Sorry, the Android camera encountered a problem. You may need to restart the device"). However the phone camera works fine.
So, I decided to flash it again 2 days ago. After flashed it, I immediately check both phone camera and barcode scanner and all turns out fine.
So, I happily root and deodex my phone and check again, still no problem.
After that, I want to try the tw launcher 4.5 so i do a nandroid backup using CWM.
After change to tw launcher 4.5, the barcode scanner start to showing the same problem...So, i thought it may be cause by the launcher so i do a restore using the nandroid backup. Still, the problem still there.
Anyone know what is the problem? Phone camera works fine without any problem but barcode scanner won't work.
Your help is much appreciated.
EDIT: The problem solved by re-enable the stock email apps.

It's strange. I have rooted deodexed XXKB3 + CWM + ext4 converting + I tested twlauncher4.5 (now I removed it because I like more Go Launcher Ex). And barcode scanner works fine for me.
I think the problem is wrong settings(broken?) of something(barcode scanner, system settings or something else). And them conflicts with your scanner.
At the first try to go To application manager, find barcode scanner and clean data.
if it won't help try to
1. go to recovery console and format /system, /cache, /data
2. restore your nandroid backup.
if it will not help too try to
1. backup all from your internal sd card
2. format your internal sdcard from phone menu
And install application you lose (some of applications can be installed at the internal sdcard). Do not restore backups from titanium backup — it will restore applications with their wrong settings.
if it will not help, I don't know what to do.

By problem what do you mean? Like the scanner if not working in the sense it is not opening or is it that teh barcode is not recognised?

the barcode scanner just open up and then show "Sorry, the Android camera encountered a problem. You may need to restart the device.". After click ok it close by itself...

Anyone willing to help?
I think it didn't caused by the tw launcher 4.5...

confusing as it may sound but the camera is tied in with stock e-mail app (read that somewhere after having same issue as you describe)
which means: if you remove the stock mail app, QR code scanning doesn't work anymore at all (works the first time you use it, then you get an error message)
had the issue and had to re-flash FW, did NOT remove stock mail app and afterwards all worked
maybe your stock mail app's corrupted after deodexing and this causes the problem?
and yes, im an utter and complete noob

Try clearing the davlik cache and try again

It helps!!
Previously I use titanium backup to disable some apps which i didn't use including the stock email app.
After restoring it, and clear the barcode scanner cache, it work again!!
Thanks!!!

Nandroid Restore - applications missing/half there

Hi guys,
I wanted to check out android 2.1 flan, so I installed the rom after making a nandroid backup.
It was fun to check out, but in order to load it I had to wipe my phone and my cache.
After restoring my nandroid, all the applications I had installed but wiped with the cache are acting funny. Basically they still show up in manage applications, but they really arent there, and if I try to reinstall them through market it doesnt let me click install OR uninstall as both are greyed out.
Basically, I will have to wait for all my applications to get "updates" before I can use them again.
Is there a way to clean up these ghost programs... without doing a complete wipe (and loosing text messages and other things)?
I didnt think Nandroid did application backups (what you are seeing are in the ext3 partition)
You need Switchrom or BART to do full backups including apps
I may be (and no dount will be) wrong though.

As mentioned above, nandroid *does not* back up your external apps. It will ONLY backup your *INTERNAL* storage.
If you make a clean restore of your nandroid backup and then run the fix_permissions script from recovery, it *might* be able to fix (some/most of) your external apps. Might try that.
If it doesn't work, then it is a tedious business of reinstalling each application individually and then restoring *ITS* home directory. Either that or a total wipe (internal and external).
The problem is that the database file that keeps track of which apps you have installed/removed is out of sync with the apps that you have installed.
I am uncertain how to fix this (I have the same problem myself).
If you perform a factory wipe, you'll lose that database entirely. All your apps will be installed, but your phone will think that none of them are.
UPDATE:
OK...apparently this is a more widespread issue impacting people running the stock/OEM ROMs as well as those of us with rooted phones.
Read up on this thread:
http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Android+Market/thread?tid=096ef069db2788e9&hl=en
I followed the suggestion near the bottom of the page and copied over the /data/data/com.andriod.vending/databases/assets.db to a new filename (basically I renamed it).
I then launched the market app and then it would let me install (reinstall) the missing apps.
Then I ran into a problem. I deleted the new assets.db that was created and copied the old one (the one I renamed) back to assets.db.
Then the market app would force close. I noticed the UID of the assets.db file was wrong.
I ran the fix_permissions script from RA's recovery image. This fixed the UID problem, including the assets.db file. But now the market app only shows the apps that I've paid for......none of the others that I have installed.
Not sure what's going on there. It may sort itself out within 24 hours.

Camera fail

Hello. Today I discovered that my camera stopped working - write camera error and that the camera end. I did a factory reset and restore backup titanium, but restatru gone again. Does anyone know what to do?
when you do the restore are u restoring also the system app ?
pls do wipe factory reset and when you wan restore from titanium choose restore missing apps not restore all the apps try it and it will work
It works! Thanks a lot! I became very desperate, the perception and the subsequent manually reset the settings I stated in despair. You saved me!
Even more so to know what actually happened.
Edit:
Strange, it seems that the problem does freeze applications using titanium backup. But why so suddenly? So far nothing like this happened ... Error Titanium backup? And what happens if you uninstall?
no problem , always when you want to do your backups , don't choose all the apps , choose user apps with data , this will prevent you from backing up your system apps , cuz if u installed new rom , probably not the same system apps will work for it ...
cheers
I'm getting the sameerror message when I try to open my camera app as well. I've factory reset it several times, only restored user apps and data from Titanium but it's still not working. I even tried to replace just the camera app from my Titanium backup with the same results (none).
I recently had a problem with my SGT losing the ability to rotate. After searching Google and the XDA forums I was able to locate a copy of the sensor file I needed to replace the one I had on my Tab. Would the same thing work for the camera - replacing the apk file (same with my GPS )?

[Q] Restored dictionary, now "Android keyboard has stopped"

Hey im on ICS 4.0.3
I updated my rom from an earlier beta of the same rom after wiping (I didn't need to, it was my choice ). So after a few days i got tired of not have all my abbreviated words and names etc (FB sync is not currently working on this rom) so decided to restore the data from TB.. It said all went well and a reboot is usually required. So reboot. Soon as i reboot i get "Unfortunately Android keyboard has stopped working". Keep getting this every so often.
My attempted solutions
- Used TB to restore data + app
- Clear data from dictionary provider, android keyboard and User dictionary
- Reflash rom without wipe
- Clear cache (from CWM) and Dalvik and fix permissions
- Reflash again
- Use logcat to find the file and delete the problem file (didn't understand it and couldn't find the files )
- Can't even go into settings > language & input every time i try i get "Unfortunately Settings has stopped"
I disabled android keyboard and the pop up stopped appearing (when the other two were disabled the error still appeared).
I have now installed swiftkey X trial and it works but i would very much like the stock android keyboard back. I still cannot access language & input
Thanks for reading and replying
P.S. I have tried searching a few keywords and i haven't found anything. I have not changed language, and as said i have cleared the data from the above system apps.
*BUMP*
One bump then ill accept no-one has an answer..
Generally clearing data from android keyboard and dictionary should have worked..
you can try clearing data of both using titanium backup..
if that also isn't working, I saw that you have written reflash rom and reflash rom without wipe in steps taken.. did you try to reflash rom with wipe?
that should definitely work, right
Have no idea how it worked but clearing the data from TB instead of from the individual apps via manage apps has worked!! I always thought that option would delete the backup but then i looked at it properly and saw the delete button beneath it.
Now ill try restore dictionary one more time as i know how to fix the problem should it arise again.
Btw I didn't want to try with wipe because I couldnt be bothered to back up everything again, I think there are going to be some updates in the next week and just seems too much effort
I am having the same problem

TB = Titanium backup. Root is required as far as I know. And you clear the data by finding the app under the backup/restore tab pressing on keyboard app and the dictionary app and press on wipe data. Let us known if it goes well.

no, the problem still persists,
m using htc hd2 ICS cwm
problem solved
i had to reset\erase factory setting from CWM,
So basically everything was erased from phone
note
when i restored backup from sd card, i started getting back error msg,
advance restoring system also gets problem back,
only restoring Sd ext3 or mounted restore doesnt creates any error on keyboard error.
on my case TB didnt helped

Clearing the cache and data with Titanium backup worked for me. I guess the titanium backup of the user dictionary does not work.

Can't create a Google account

First of all, it's not my phone, it's not rooted and owner is not an experienced android user so he won't root it..
Problem:
When opening Google play, it closes immediately.. Same thing on Gmail app..
YouTube app opens, but when trying to sign in, it closes sing screen..
When trying to create account via settings, I click on 'create new' account and when I choose 'google' option, it goes back to account settings..
What should I do to solve this?
Already tried deleting all data from apps that need a Google account, such as Gmail, play store, YouTube, etc

Wipe cache from recovery. If that do not help - do factory reset from recovery too. Other data and installed apps will be lost, ofcourse - so backup with Titanium Backup, some sms backup, contacts...
As I said in first post, no root.. So, no recovery, no titanium backup, no nothing..
But anyway, thanks for replying! =)

You can use recovery if you are not rooted. Volume Up + home + power.
SMS and contacts can be backed up without root too. So he only need to redownload apps from playstore.
I'm too used to Sony
Is it possible to make a backup of whole system with stock recovery?
If not, is there any app that make apps and data backups?

Device is running Android 4.1 or 4.2 (I don't remember which one)

Just talk to your friend into rooting his device. For backup purposes. That is if he doesn't want to lose any apps/saved game data. Don't worry about pics/music as they are left untouched even if you reset the phone in recovery.
Sent from whatever the thing I use using whatever the app I have.
In order to backup your data / apps you need access to partition that stores said data - you need root to do it.
you can always do full unroot after whole story.
1. root
2. backup your stuff
3. factory reset as needed here
4. re-root if needed (forgot if it stays after factory reset - if not just go to next step)
5. restore backups
6. full unroot (option in supersu app - no need re-flash whole JB to unroot)
Talked to my friend about everything.. He said he has nothing important on his phone, so I can use MyBackup to save his apks, SMS and contacts..
In case I can't solve play store problem I'll be posting here again..
Thanks to all of you! =D
Problem solved! Thank you all!

Google Photos problem after reverting back to Oreo 8.1 from Android P

Yesterday I installed Android P, but did not feel I could rely on it for daily use so reverted back to Android Ore 8.1. However, after reverting, the Google Photos app is misbehaving in following ways:
1. Does not delete photos. If you delete them from File Manager, they still appear in photos.
2. With camera when you take photos and want to review the photo, the photo appears with noise and then app crashes (black screen and nothing happens).
3. At some points it asks me to give acccess to SD card, but I have no SD card inserted.
Anyone has a clue how to get over it? I installed a 3rd party gallery, which works fine but cannot integrate with camera i.e you cannot jump to that app after taking photos to review them. It still would try to go to Google Photos. I have tried clearing cache, data, disabling, rebooting, re installing update but nothing is working. Any inputs would be appreciated.
I also see one strange thing. Out of box, I had google photos which worked smooth and it had words "move to trash". But now it shows "Move to Bin" :/

UPDATE: I had to wipe data/factory reset again from recovery, and this has fixed it for now. Also now I again get "Move to Trash"

No I dont use SD Card. For me the factory reset and wiping cache worked fine. It was quite annoying and I had no other choice then to do that.
Regarding downgrading, I am not sure how to do. Maybe on internet there are some tutorials
