[Q] Fake/Generic Iphone running Android? - Off-topic

Hi all, I've come across a free fake iphone, one of those generic ones. Looks just like a real one except it runs a different OS. I was wondering if someone here might know some clever ways of installing Android on it? I assume since it's a knock-off, that it must be running some sort of linux based OS?
P.S. Dunno if this is posted in the right spot.

[Question] Windows Phone 7 on Nexus One?

Now, before I get started I just want to say please don't yell at me going "WHY THE HELL WOULD YOU WANT THAT?" This is just a simple question:
Could it be possible to port WP7 onto the Nexus One? I noticed we have development for things like Ubuntu and Meego.

The difference is, OSes like Android, Meego and Ubuntu are all based on open-source Linux. That means we can try and squeeze them onto devices that weren't designed for it without running into huge legal repercussions, and if something is incompatible we can just recompile it with changes.
WP7 is closed-source and designed for specific hardware. I don't think it'd be easy, it definitely wouldn't be legal, and I don't think you'll find a lot of people here who care to see it happen anyway

Add in to the fact that it's not even released yet, so how would anyone know anyway? Yes, xxjoshuaaxx it's possible, but it's nothing like getting Ubuntu to run on the N1. It would require a lot of custom driver code to be written. Nobody will care enough to do this though, so while yes it is possible it won't happen. Same reason you don't see Symbian or BB OS running on an N1, or any Android phone. Unless the hardware is extremely similar it's not worth trying.
One possible exception might be - if a manufacturer produces an Android and a Windows phone that are 99.9% the same hardware with different OSes slapped on them. In that case it *might* be possible to reflash one to the other. But don't count on it!
I would guess the way it happens is that you take a phone 7 device with a similar hardware device sporting android and then install android on the phone7 device and dual boot. It was the wild west with windows mobile up to now but with phone 7 I expect to see apple style policing of the OS meaning developers fiddling with putting it on a non native phone 7 device and offering up such a rom will be seeing a cease and desist order very qickly.

HD7 and Android - Use this thread for your questions about and stay On Topic!

Would it be possible to have Android on this phone since its basically the same phone as the hd2
I assume you mean as a duel boot? As i see a lot of people asking to put android on it yet they could just buy the htc desire hd an almost identical phone that is designed to work with android. tbh i would love to see some sort of emulator for a couple of the apps but i am so so glad to be rid of android i loved it but it felt like an early 90's computer all basic with no flair.
I think it would be possible but it will be glitchy and a long time off my advise would be if you want android to buy an android device they have a lot to choose from.

its more advanced then the HD2 and has less touch buttons
however its a bit of a silly question IMHO. If you want android get the Desire HD.
Why put a round peg in a square hole ?
I actually think it's a great question.
Why would people want it? because it gives you CHOICE!
It would be great if you could dual boot with Android and WM7 so you get the best of both worlds: taking advantage of Android whilst also using WM7 while it matures. I'd absolutely love to have a device with android and WM7.
Wish I was a developer, I'd work on that project straight away! I'd pay to have a dual-booting HD7 (or desire HD!) !
Bring it on dudes!
Wow please close this thread since there are so many options available for android these days and if anyone needs a android phone they should buy an android phone
I'm not sure I agree with the last poster. T-mobile has no android alternative to the HD7 that I am aware of.

really? for tmous or t-mobile europe? Cause there is the g2 and mytouch4g that just came out android...
To the OP, considering how the hd2 android is booted from the sd card and technically, there is no sd card on the wp7 (once it's inserted it becomes program memory), I don't think this is happening anytime in the future. Gotta agree, that dual booting for computers can be important to some people, but for phones, I just don't see it happening with the newer os's.
I'm a layman with no technical knowledge, just interested, so my comment was more on a visceral level than technical. To clarify, what I meant to say was that '...there is no android alternative ...... I am aware of'...' regarding the large screen format of the HD7. I bought a G2 but returned it because it was bulky, and I decided that I did not need the slide out keyboard. I really liked my first foray into the andriod world during my two weeks using the G2, and was hoping that I would be able to use the HD7 with android as well.
PS. I'm in Florida.

If he wants Android, tell him to go get an Android phone if it's within 14 days, otherwise, it'll be awhile before Android comes to the HD7.

I agree. I don't get it. WinPho7 is amazing. If you want andriod, dont get a brand new phone that just came out with a new windows version. Sure andriod has its perks, but so does Windows. I've had Apple, Andriod and Windows, and I just dont get the point of changing something off the bat. Altho He is probably thinking that the HD7 is like the HD2, with WinPho6.5, which I personally did not like. But it did have its perks too, like multitasking. I don't think many realize how long and how much work it took to bring Andriod to the HD2. I'm not a developer myself, but I can only imagine!
hd7
Okay I find out there is a phone out that's come close to the hd7.. its called HTC desire HD.. its looks just like the hd7 but the only thing defferent is the cam. Which is a 8mp instead of 5mp and its a android phone.. its not windows..
Just get a desire HD if you want an android powered 4.3 inch screen

If you want an android phone.. Why are you buying a hd7??
The answer is maybe. If you want Android, get an Android phone. There is a high likelihood that someone will at least attempt to port Android to the HD7. Whether or not it will be anytime soon, if it will be stable/usable, or if it will actually happen at all remains to be seen. My advice is not to buy a phone on the hopes that Android will be ported to it.

I need some advice...tablet construction

Alright, I am pretty well versed in the building of computers and such....and I figured it might be time to try a tablet....I mean, at least explore the options. And I thought it would be a huge challenge....and I saw that one Carbon Tablet that was coming out before the Ipod some guy built...and I've toyed around with Carbon Fiber body stuff before I thought this would be a fun project.
I have decided that theoretically it would be best to build this tablet to run on Android so that it could be upgraded to Honeycomb.
What exactly should I be looking for to run this thing? I'm thinking Capacitive screen probably, I assume Tablets run on SSD's, what type of processor etc?
I am sorry if this is the wrong forum, but I figured if anyone knows what it takes to run Android well....it's these guys.
Thanks!!

well, id have no idea how to make a tablet... but i know that they run on ARM processors, which are most of the time 'texas instrument OMAPS'
i know they usually have flash storage (of course)
But unfortunately for you, i believe that all tablets have custom designed Mobo's, and as ive never seen a "make your own tablet" kit, i dont see where youd find one... (unless you make a super-size tablet with a nano-itx mobo... but then it might be too large and you may as well make a netbook)
EDIT: heres a link to a wikipedia page about texas instrument omap processors: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Texas_Instruments_OMAP
in fact, do look into the possibility of nano-itx boards... you might be able to make a windows 7 tablet?

Mint 11 help

I am completely new to mint and linux. Can anyone help me with installing the latest version of wine? I Got the one from package manager but I want the dev one. I have NO clue how to install or do stuff on linux. Also my wifi is SLOW on linux vs win 7. Anyone know why? I have a reltek 8192CU.
Well, all these brilliant at home hackers have developed better operating systems than the scores of software engineers at Microsoft. Don't you realize taxi drivers and hairdressers are the only ones who really know what's going on??
Wtf are you talking about?
Just ranting, ignore my post.
Did I ask something wrong? So no help just a rant? I think I got the newest version of wine to install. 1.3.2 I think it was.

[Q] WP8 Custom ROM Possibility

This might be the wrong place for this, but I was wondering about the feasibility of there being a WP8 Custom ROM for this device. Right now I have an Android phone but was looking for a cheap WP phone to play with the OS and see if I might want to jump ship in the future with a better model. Right now I have it down to the HD7 and the Lumia 710 as Im on T-Mobile. Both can be had for about $150. I was just wondering which, if either, would have a chance of getting WP8 in some form to play with down the road. Thanks!
+1
+1
waiting for an answer too ...
can anyone help ?
Hi, I think this isn't very likely to happen (or not in the near future), but if there's any device to get WP8 rom, it's most likely HTC HD7, as it was the first WP7 device to have a custom rom, because of it's similarity with HTC HD2, which even now has big developer interest and gets newest leaked updates first (like WP7.8)
