None of the following works:
Perform "Factory Reset" to clear /data After this completes, you will need to clear the /data partition.
Method 1: Hardware Key Combination Note: It's been stated that this procedure can be done while the NOOKcolor is powered on or powered off. These instructions follow the powered off method.
1. With the NOOKcolor powered off hold down the n button (home), Vol + button and Power Button until the NOOKcolor powers on.
2. You will be prompted with a Factory Reset dialog. Press POWER key to Exit Press HOME key to continue
3. Press n button (home).
4. You will be prompted to confirm. Press POWER key to Exit Press HOME key to continue
5. Press n button (home).
6. A Clearing Data dialog will show. NOOKcolor will reboot automatically once complete.
Method 2: "Erase & Deregister Device" 1. Go to Settings
2. Select "Device Info" under the top "Device Settings" section
3. Select "Erase & Deregister Device"
4. Select the "Erase & Deregister Device" button
5. You will be prompted with the following confirmation dialog Are you sure you want to reset your Nook? Doing so will return your Nook to factory settings, erase local content and deregister this device. Cancel Reset Nook
6. Select the "Reset Nook" button
7. A Deregistration message will appear and NOOKcolor will reboot.
8. Upon reset a Clearing data message will appear Clearing data... A reset is being performed. This may take a few minutes.
9. NOOKcolor will reboot again once complete.
I had to do this with my first NC so I could exchange it for a non-defective one. You need to interrupt the normal boot up procedure 8 times in a row by holding down the power button while the device is booting. Shut the nook down completely, hold power until the screen turns on and you see the "future of reading" message come up, let the button go for a second, then re-press and hold it down until the device shuts off. Repeat that 7 more times and the nook will automatically factory-reset itself and all the stuff you installed on it will be gone.
You can re-register and re-download all your content after that.
Worked for me.. did it in the car outside BN before I returned my first one
i found this on the tmobile site
and wanted to share
Thanks
Rolo.
Master reset
Master reset from settings menu
A master reset restores the original factory settings and may delete your personal data on the internal storage, such as downloaded content, ringtones, images, apps, and contacts. It does not delete data stored on the SIM card or SD card.
To perform a master reset, follow these steps:
Back up all data on the internal memory.
From any Home screen, tap the Menu key.
Tap System settings.
If necessary, tap the Menu key to switch to list view.
Scroll to 'PERSONAL,' and then tap Backup & reset.
Tap Factory data reset.
Tap Reset phone.
Tap Erase everything.
Review the warning, and then tap OK.
Wait for the system to reset and do not remove the battery.
Master reset with hardware keys
If the device menus are frozen or unresponsive, you can master reset using hardware keys.
To perform a master reset with the hardware keys, follow these steps:
Back up all data on the internal memory.
Power off the device.
At the same time, press and hold the following keys for 8 seconds:
Power key
Volume down key
When the 'FACTORY HARD RESET' screen displays, release the keys.
Press the Power key to confirm the reset. The master reset will automatically start.

bump
There's no need to bump your own thread, especially since it's a guide.
You should add to the OP that a full factory reset will NOT occur if the laf partition has been zero'd out to enable fastboot. Already been there and done that
Is anyone able to get any options when booting into the stock recovery? It used to be that even if you didn't have a custom recovery, you could boot into Android recovery and factory reset as well as wipe the dalvik cache.

No idea how. Got into recovery, but since we have a Volume rocker we can't press both at the same time to get past the first screen. No idea what button combination works....

I dont have a Turbo yet, but my guess getting into recovery should be similar to Maxx:
1. With the phone powered off, press the VOL DOWN KEY for 2-3 seconds then POWER key then release.
2. The device will display different BOOT OPTIONS
3. Use the VOL DOWN Key to SCROLL to Recovery and VOL UP Key to select
Tip: If the device reboots, you may have waited to long to make a selection, you will need to begin the process again.
4. The device will display the Motorola logo and then the Android in distress ( logo with Exclamation mark)
5. Press and hold the VOL UP key for 10-15 seconds. While still holding the VOL UP key tap and release the POWER key
Tip: You can try this step, holding the phone in landscape. If you are stuck on step 6, try a force reboot by pressing the Power key and Vol Down key, and start the process again.
6. The device should be in recovery

Ahh... I completely forgot about holding the volume button down that long after getting into recovery.
Thank you!
Great!
But the wipe froze on my device and I had to reboot. Second wipe froze as well. Odd.

Mine did not freeze, however the wipe took what seemed to be 3-5 minutes... Longest cache wipe ever???
Edit: also did not get any sort of "upgrading OS" or "upgrading apps" message like on my previously rooted devices... Just the standard insanely fast boot.
Weird.
Recovery Options changed for Lolli
FYI, Wipe cache took 8 minutes on my phone and I've heard reports of up to 21 minutes.

So I'm trying to wipe cache partition but for some reason when I go to recovery mode it takes me to a different menu with less options. And one of those is wipe cache partition. And I'm doing the steps correct, hold down power button, home button, and volume up button then let go when the Android logo appears etc. But it still takes me to this different menu. Any help?
