[Q] Sense 2.1 roms won't install - Hero CDMA Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

When I try to install any sense 2.1 roms they all get stuck at the white htc boot screen. The only rom it hasn't happened on is Sensible Gingerbread 5/14. Any idea why this keeps happening?

Did you do a full flash?? Are using clockwork mod 2.x.x ?
Sent from my HERO200 using XDA App

I'm on 4.0.0.5. I wipe everything then flash it like any other rom.

You wipe everything? system, data, cache?
Does the rom have an overclocked kernel? Maybe your phone won't boot at what the kernel tries.

I wipe everything twice. The rom is Sensible salsa RC2.5.3.

I suppose I could look it up, but it would be more useful for you to find out what clock speed it boots at.

Try Redownloading the Rom you want, Sometimes the Downloads Mess up! Also try this...
Wipe Everything Twice (Again) then Flash your Rom, Next (Before) you Boot your phone, Wipe Everything Once More then Boot! And if your using the Firerats Partition Don't Forget to Flash the Boot.zip also Before you Boot the phone!
Good Luck!

The kernel in those roms see to all be capped at 691. I know they were using Deca's #589 capped. I flash a different kernel, so I haven't looked, but WildHeroc was capped.

what do you mean?
when i opened rom manager and choose the rom i wanted to install it asked if i wanted to wipe and backup or something but i know i check both. then i install the zip in the recovery boot menu and rebooted and no luck. then i tried another rom and wiped before installing and still no luck.
At the very top of rom manager, you must flash 2.5.0.1 recovery. Did you do this first?

So you flashed the clockworkmod recovery, booted into recovery and made a nandroid of your stock rom. Then, what rom were trying to flash?

This exact same thing happened to me. What I did to fix it was pull the battery, then wipe everything (dalvik, data, cache), and then rebooted. My phone was able to boot then.
I'm having the same problem with rom manager. I just rooted my desire using the unrevoked method, then ran rom manager. I did install the recovery mode first, then backed up the rom. How my desire is just rebooting to the htc screen. How do I get out of this?
Many thanks,
Joe
dumb question, but how did you wipe everything?

Hey, that's exactly the same issuing I'm experiencing now. Did you solve it? And if yes, how?
Well, a few hours later I solved it by restoring a backup and then booting went well. Also described in a thread on androidforums dot com (I can't enter the link here due to not having posted enough messages) .

I don't know if this helps, but I'm pretty sure nandroids are specific to which recovery they were created with, I read that somewhere a few days ago. If you did not have clockwork before, I would try getting the recovery you used to make the nand, install that recovery and then restore the nand. Then try the whole wipe everything and get clockwork and go to town. If you haven't tried RA/Darch 1.7 recovery, I would recommend it, I personally like it better than clockwork, it seems faster, and simpler to use.
Exactly What "Il Duce" Said Will Fix Your Problem, Same Exact Thing Happened To Me, What I Did Was Go Back To Previous Version Of Rom Manager Then Flash Alternate Recovery, AND Regular Clockwork Recovery, Should Be Good After That!

[Q] Boot Loop after Battery Circle Mod

So I had AOSP Gingerbread mod working fine with Deca kernel. I wanted to install the circle battery mod so I rebooted to recovery and wiped cache and cleared Davlik and installed the mod. Now my phone is constantly boot looping. I assume I have to RUU back to stock? Is there a certain RUU I should use?
I've tried two different RUU's and I keep getting ERROR[130]: MODEL ID ERROR
I've tried to USB FASTBOOT:
RUU_Hero_HTC_WWE_2.73.405.5_WWE_release_signed_NoDriver and
HTC Sprint Hero MR 2.27.651.6
Sounds like you didn't flash the correct one for your ROM. Just flash the ROM over itself with no wipe and you should boot up. You don't need to RUU, just use the GB ROM.
Make sure you download the Battery Mod that matches the ROM version your are running. You need to do it with each ROM you flash and they are not cross-ROM compatible.
How do I flash the ROM over itself if it is boot looping? Can I get into ClockworkMod Recovery somehow?

- Pull your battery and put it back in. That will obviously stop the loop
- Press and hold the home key and power at the same time
- Hold until recovery comes up
- Flash the ROM
Thanks. Got it. Sorry, I'm new to all this.
No problem. Glad you got it.

aospMod-v0.9.9.2-signed (froyo)

I installed this ROM and rebooted and my screen doesnt advance pass the blue android splash screen
now i tried gingerbread and it made it through the splash but i got a message saying something about setup not working and forcing closed. then i went back to recovery and installed the gapps and it gets stuck on the splash screen
Are you using firerat mod? Also make sure to do a full data/ system, cache, and dalvik cache wipe. I usually do all three at least twice as I've had roms hang from leftover data. Also check to make sure files are downloading completely.

What recovery are you using??
Yea it's me again. With the
Modified Hero
im using clockwork recovery 3.0.0.5
i finally got gingerbread to work. i think my problem was with doing a complete wipe of the cache.
i want to try the froyo mod but dont want to end up back where i was of hanging on the splash screen.
do i need to delete the one click root file? heroroot010.apk?
Yes you should and just do a nand back up of your working rom and you should be good to try any different rom. Then if you want to go back just nand restore back to your old rom. And if you were able to get gb to work froyo shouldn't be a problem for you.
Yea it's me again. With the
Modified Hero
You also wanna ditch that customized recovery image. Use the recovery that comes with rom manager. That new one is missing some capabilities.

I second that! Hated that recovery both days I had it. lol
That's not the new one. The heroroot apk. installs the old darchstar recovery img. The newest one is RA1.7 and it has all the features. Good luck

thanks guys
where can i find R.A. 1.7
Clockwork recovery 2.5.0.7 works great. And that's what rom manager will flash for you. Since you likely have rom manager already, you should go with that. Most people post instructions with clockwork in mind, so it will be easier in the long term.

Like what? Besides doing away with amend scripts (which is due to CWM 3.x being based on the official GB recovery), it's the same.
That's basically it. But it causes extra work. And the original clockwork recovery works fine.
So if the OP wants stuff to work every time...

[Q] Cant Wipe Dalvik Cache

Im still very new to this. Im trying to install Fasty II, and im stuck at the AT&T logo, and im pretty sure its because i cant wipe the Dalvik cache. When i tried to wipe it, it just would do nothing.
First of all, I did confirm the wipe, i didnt hit no on accident
Anyway, whenever I try to wipe it, I get no error or anything, it just goes back, basically as if i am pressing No instead.
Everything that I did in the following order
1. Went back to stock with the Odin One-Click
2. Went to Download mode and installed the Captivate Gingerbread bootloaders (ran as admin)
3. Wiped the data and tried to wipe the Dalvik cache but nothing happened
And btw the same thing happens when trying to wipe battery stats
Am I doing something wrong, is it that there isnt a Dalvik cache (again Im a n00b), or something else entirely?
Probably included a lot of extra info just wanna be thorough.
Thanks in advance
Ginger bread boot loaders for a froyo rom? That's your problem, wrong boot loaders, man. Flash back to 2.1 stock and give a reread on the fasty instructions.
if you could try any of the button combos to get into download mode, you could flash back to stock there.
Or take out the battery, Sim and sd card, plug the phone the USB cord into the phone, hold the volume buttons down and plug the battery in, if it worked, you should be in download mode. Flash back to stock.
If those two didn't work, look into a jig.

Really, strange, haven't seen it.

Either way, the gingerbread boots are backward compatible. Doesn't matter if he was installing a froyo rom or gingerbread. They work either way.
OP: how did I install cwm? Could just be that version doesn't confirm when deleted although it is wiping it. Either way not wiping dalvik should not cause a boot loop, if it was all clustered you would be laggy and perhaps a few apps force close, but it should boot.
Try and re download the rom and reflash.

Well I tried re-downloading and still get the boot loop.
After installing gingerbread bootloaders, im pretty sure i just did the update.zip way of getting cwm. idk if cwm has been updated since i got it, which was quite a few months ago, but ya idk if that means anything
EDIT: I think it actually was CWM, i tried flashing again, got the bootloop, went into CWM, and it was a diff color so im assuming it was updated, and flashed it again and it worked.
Thanks for the help
EDIT 2: Spoke too soon, stuck at startup now. Has been on the Galaxy S Screen for the last 10 mins
The cwm after the first flash is the one makes into the kernel.
If it doesn't loop the animation and is just staying at the S it should be re building dalvik which takes awhile
All right it works now thank you

Facin the same issue as you. Currently the only sollution i could find is flash Omar's rom over Pi-Llama. With this way you won't have bootloops.

After flashing I do a System/Cache/data/SDCard wipe and reboot. Then I enter Fastboot, connect USB to the phone, open ADB and flash Pi-Llama's system.ext4 and boot.img using a command which I forgot. I reboot again, wait for the system loads everything, reboot to CWM and finally flash Omar's over it.
The pre-install with Pi-llama 1.4 works also for 1.5, but as soon as i wipe data i have bootloop.
We need a "system.img.ext4" like on Pi-llama, than we can use the 1.4 script for install - i think this should work.

yeah would help some developers don't really show clear instructions on how to flash unless they too have know idea lol :') i remember the good olds days where all you needed to wipe was cache :') i miss them days
Asked for an ext4 system image in Omars thread, maybe someone can help.
Maybe its something to do with SD card tries everything possible just doesn't seem to work and developers won't do a clean flash on their own phones to check the problem
