GT to Win7-64... can't see each other - Galaxy Tab Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Alright, I have had my Tab for nearly a month, but never bothered trying to physically shuffle data from my pc or my seagate goflex satellite hdd.
If I plug the satellite into my tab, nothing happens. It can't see the drive. This means that the only way to get anything is through the wireless AP built into the harddrive. This is frustrating if I want to physically move files, not just stream.
If I plug my tab into my win7-64 laptop, again NOTHING happens. The drivers validated, windows says it understands that it is there, but I cannot mount the hdd on the tab, nor can I even see that it is there except for "drivers installed".
What the hell do I do?
Getting all sorts of pissed!
Do I need to root my tab first or something? Put a different OS-mod on it?

Install Kies....

There is no Kies for PC. t_t It's MAC only.

It's definitely not mac only.

Mac version is relatively new, it's been there for Windows for months before that. And, to be honest, Kies is Samsung own software to manage devices, even my mother's Corby installed that horrible thing.

Open samsung webpage. Download kies for window. Install it and you are good to go

Be sure before saying such ****!!

There it's a windows version of lite in usa. The full version is international but can be downloaded and installed on windows. Problem its not for x64. That it what I am on and when I try to connect it says put device in kies mode. Called support and that is what they told me.
Could be wrong but I gave up. Even setup into dev mode but still did not work.
I don't think you should need it for external drive as mine came right up . I was told needed it for root.

You absolutely don't need it for root, and couldn't use it for drive mapping. Win 7 has native drivers to communicate with tab.
Settongs, applications, development ---> check debugging.
Then connect to your pc.

Flashing Gingerbread w/o ODIN...

Sorry if this comes off as noobish but is there anyway to flash over to stock Gingerbread (and eventually to a custom rom) w/o the use of Odin? I've tried to search but didn't really see anything that clarified this for me. My phone just doesn't want to work with ODIN at all...it will pick it up every once in awhile but only when the phone is powered completely on. I've installed, deleted, reinstalled drivers/kies etc. Thanks in advance to anyone that can help me resolve this issue!

you can give heimdall a try, but if you are talking about a cwm flash then no, you cannot. flashing bootloaders in cwm is WAY more risky than using odin or heimdall.
My main issue is that I cant keep my laptop to recognize my phone in the first place...like I said earlier, I tried various drivers including the ones from Samsung and Softpedia...And whenever I do get it to respond, it wont recognize it in download mode at all...thanks though...the only thing that I haven't really tried was a new cable...will be purchasing one later...I feel so left behind on my roms lol. I was able to flash Froyo with no prob...now its so many out that I can't get my hands on...
I would try thee drivers from dg (designgears ) thread in development. It also might recognize better from stock also.

I'm in the same situation from time to time on my work laptop. Not sure it's gonna mather for your situation but i found that if i undock and redock the computer Odin then recognize the phone again when it goes foobar. (I only use the laptop usb port and not the docking station ones).

[Q] Mango Update on Macs?

Has anyone with a Mac been able to update yet? I'm still at 7.00.07392 and "no update available."
Yes I have updated to official Mango from the developer Mango in OSX without any issues at all. It was actually easier than doing it in Windows, haha!
Make sure you've got the up-to-date "Windows Phone 7 Connector" app to receive the update. If you don't have the new red windows icon for your application, you are going to need to update it. It should say "Version 2.0 (110820)" in your about window.

Yeah I've got that version. I guess I just have to wait it out ... My HD7 is really just a Zune player now / backup phone anyway. Best PMP I've owned to date!
Thanks, by the way.

I got tired of Connector for Mac saying no update available and decided to flash the leaked Tmobile US Mango from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1281471 .
yes, i have updated my hd7 with mac!
on windows i receive a lot of error -.-" so i connected to the mac and, bam! mango, in a few minuts !
Nothing yet for me. Still says "no update" , I'm also using the latest version of WP connector.
Could you please tell me if its possible to flash to the mentioned ROM using Mac? I only have Windows 8 with Parallels.
tks
---------- Post added at 01:44 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:40 PM ----------
How did you flashed this ROM using a Mac? tks..
You can follow the forced update procedure using a Mac and Parallels. I probably could have done it using W7Phone Connector and the wireless toggle method, but I live the hard way.
I did it with Parallels, finally.
Run Parallels, run Zune, connect your phone, let it tell you there's no update, then go to "Settings" in the Zune (Parallels) software.
Choose "Update" and when the colorful Zune progress bar starts running, disconnect your internet connection, just like the instructions people have posted say.
As a side note, make sure your SIM card is actually IN the phone ... I had my SIM in my primary (other) phone and I'm pretty sure that was part of my problem because Zune was saying that it "could not connect to the internet using my phone."
Also, don't forget to click "Yes" when Parallels asks you whether you'd like to continue the USB device settings in your virtual machine because when your phone automatically restarts during the update process, Parallels won't automatically assign its USB connection to your virtual machine unless you've already set it up to automatically assign the connection to XP/7.

Windows in on the Hard Drive. Sometimes when you boot windows on a different HD it will work, other times it won't. Try it. If it does boot up, install the drivers and register windows. But to tell you the troth, I really don't understand your OP

OP meanS?
I wanted to switch motherboards !
I have 2 boards
Other one was of office nd i brought home coz dad took new motherboard
If i switch board it will boot ? Nd how to update drivers nd register windows ?
I think I'm starting to understand now. And OP stands for original post in this case.
Go to the manufacturer's website, go to support, type model name, download the necessary ones.
Put in the new mother board. Try booting up, if it doesn't try Safe Mode by pressing F8 when you boot. If one of those works, install the drivers from a USB stick. If they don't work, take a windows CD and try doing a repair, or reformat the whole system. Also, if you have no idea how to do any of that, give it to a professional.
i was going to call profesnal but he is out of stations ! Nd i dont noe model no. nd even winows inside is of duplicate cd
Every thing is of dublicate cd
Windows is not stored on the motherboard.
But what about drivers and all ??

And from there i am stuck.
hope someone could help me out!
It looks like the drivers for your phone are not installed. Under the fail box it should say Something like com 6 in yellow if you had the drivers installed and phone connected. Try installing the drivers for the phone again and when its connected to odin you should see a yellow box and you will be ready to flash then.

Install drivers throught Kies. Its one of options whn doing connection rroubleshooting. After reinstall reboot pc. For next steps keep kies closed. It looks also like you did not go into download mode.
Press volume button down, homekey and powerbutton at same time quickly after powering up device. May need couple of tries. Its tricky. Reconnect if not done so phone to pc.
Press volume up to confirm. Now you can flash do not disconnect phone, be patient and wait till device powers back up.

Aside that...
fired up PC Odin n load the "PDA" file, put ur phone in "Download" mode THEN u connect to ur PC....
most of the time ur PC will detect ur phone n install some more drivers other than the drivers u had updated previously

I think I bricked my Tab?

It is showing a small round mobile phone, 2 dots, a ! inside an orange triangle, 2 more dots, and a computer.
This is the first time I'm seeing this screen.
Edit: Just to give some insight as to what I was doing...
I was using a SGT7 build of CM9, and I noticed USB Tethering wasn't working (native nor Wired Tether 1.4 worked). I had to run to a friends house for the night real fast, so I figured I'd just go back to Stock firmware and use that for a few hours just so my desktop could get Internet.
I am also using Windows 8 Release Preview. Odin could see my device fine, but upon pressing Start to start the flashing process, it did nothing (I'm guessing Odin or Samsung's drivers don't work well on W8RP). No progress was made on either Odin or my tab for about 5 minutes. Since nothing was done, I figured I could close Odin, and restart my Tab. Now I only get this screen:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

}
I immediately went to the "How To Unbrick Your Galaxy Tab!" thread, but didn't find mention of the screen I described in this post, and then I made this post in panic.
When I went back to Windows 7, Odin was able to reflash my tab successfully, and USB Tethering was working fine. So perhaps Windows 8 has some weird incompatibility with Samsung Drivers? In any case, this might serve as a warning to anyone trying to use Odin in Windows 8.
I think it was mentioned in a few threads.
Many confirmed that it is another download mode.
You just have to make sure it is fully charged, and keep trying Odin restocking. It will go through.
(I never experienced it myself)
Edit: many reference, just search in here fore "phone exclamation pc"
Yea it would seem it's another download mode. I was able to flash with Odin just fine in Windows 7, so all is well again
i have said this in many threads. this is the result of faulty flashing. just use the latest version of odin
please thank me if you found this helpful
