wake streak 7 with home button...possible? - Dell Streak 7

is there anyway to have the streak 7 kernel modded to allow the home button to always stay active? I want to put my streak 7 in my car in dash and won't have access to the volume and power button. the device will always be left on per say, with only the screen off and on, i just want to be able to use the home button to wake the screen, since i wont be able to use the power button.
Any ideas or thoughts devs?

i already tried that app, but unless I am doing something wrong it doesn't work because the capactive buttons that light up on the right goto sleep and don't respond. is there any way to make them not do this? this steak is going to be going in dash in my car so i dont care that the streak doesnt sleep, all i want is the screen to turn on and off but the buttons to stay active.

How to lock buttons selectively?

Hi fellas.
The power button of my diamond has submerged slightly, and I'm trying to use it less frequently.
I turn off my device now using G-sen and flipping it down. As for turning it back on, I have to use the power button. I've also selected "Do not lock buttons" under keylock settings. It works great, l but I only want to use the action button to wake up the device.
Other than the "lock all buttons except power button", is there a way I can "lock all butons except the power/action button" ?
Thanks!
Help.... Anyone?
yes i want to find out too!... it will be so useful if thats possible
Turn off the phone by turning it face down.
Turn on - by taking the pen out.
So you don't use the power button...

Nice one, bro...
But I hardly use the stylus...
Anyone?
You don't need to lock any buttons. If all you want is not to press any buttons accidentally in your pocket, just install Slide to Unlock (S2U2) and don't lock any buttons. That way, you can wake the phone up by any button and slide your finger on the screen to wake the device up.

Yea, I knew this would pop up.
S2U2 gives an extra step, which I don't want.
Just want to use the action button to wake the device. Thats all.

tired of pressing the power button

My finger hurts since I have to press the power button (small and flat) too many times a day to wake the diamond from sleep. you can argue that I can set the phone not to sleep but sleep is a must to save battery. using all keys to wake it up can cause any keys to be easily hit by accident, which drains battery fast too. Power button is meant to be used rarely, like the PC reset button.
is there a better way to wake up the diamond? is it possible to configure ONLY the OK (center) button to do this? like the iphone, you just press the OK button. it is big and does not hurt as much?
How exactly do you keep pressing the power button till your finger hurts?

hit it once does not hurt but every time it go to sleep and I have to hit the button to wake it up. that is when it hurts.
let say I set it to go to sleep every 40 sec. how many time does it go to sleep in an hours? at least couple times.

I've found that the pressure required on the Power Button can depend on the particular Diamond. I've owned two US Diamonds and the first had a difficult Power Button while the second was much easier. Either way, another option to turn it on is to pull out the stylus a short distance - this will wake the Diamond as well. As far as using the center of the D-Pad - I've no idea . . .

even though using the stylus is less painful but it takes more steps: get finger nail in the gap, pull it out, then push it back in. if you do these steps many time over an hour, it would be tidious task.
On my diamond responsivity of the power button depends strongly on where I'm pressing it. You can try to press it different ways and find out where you get most tactile feedback of the micro-switch. I have the impression that for me it is when I'm pressing from behind, more on the left of it.

I think that would be a very good feature for the phone. I am sure most of us would use it.

Yes, but other keys such as volumn, home, back, answer and end key are also unlocked. Anyway, there are all hardware keys available to press opening the phone in additon to the default on/off button. I am now using this option.
ya but they will complain that all the buttons are unlocked. that method is just TOO easy.
edit: OMG i was right. and too slow. hahaha
maybe next time the phone can get u a beer or work for you...man...
Surely this is the Answer..?
OK, the way I see solving this is to have the phone wait longer before auto-locking.
To sort this, go to the following..
Start\Settings\System\Power\Advanced..
Go to 2nd option - It's a tick Box labelled "Turn off Device if not used for.." and adjust it to suit..
This is found in the manual..?
Cheers,
Phil.

well, it´s maybe less a matter of laziness than of speed, my last phone was a slider ... slide, it wakes up, slide, it goes to sleep - superquick
with the diamond it takes one step more:
I use the option "do not lock buttons" in combination with S2U2, most often I press the ok button and slide to unlock
to put the phone to sleep, I press the power button or use gyrator: I just have to turn the phone face down, than the screen goes off (with S2U2 locking)
hm, maybe I should have bought the diamond pro, but diamond is sexier

OMG!!!
What a baby, hurting finger....c'mon!!
Power button switches screen on, same button switches screen off. Job done.
Have you ever hit your finger with a hammer and your nail goes black....That hurts!!!

Old iPhone habits are hard to break...

Hey yall, Back when I didn't know any better I had an iphone and the power button was broken so I had an app that when I double clicked the home button it would turn off the screen.
I went to CM setting and found the thing that let me use the trackball to turn ON the phone, but Is it possible to get something simialer to what I had on the iPhone? a double click to turn off the screen thingy for the trackball?
Reteach yourself to use the power button the correct way.
Yeah that ^
Seriously you are going to kill the life of that track ball lol
I'd like to know an answer to this too, simply because my power button no longer works!

you can use power off widgets i see some in market there is some for reboot and i i remember well another to power off but need root

touch screen "turn on"...instead of side button...

is there any possible way to be able to touch the screen and return its from the timed out backlight insted of the power button then the actual unlocking....
Not sure about touching screen, but there's an app called NoLock that will make it so there's no lockscreen and hitting the power button unlocks it. Eats battery though.

Is there any way? Probably. Is it a good idea? Probably not. Just having the screen up to your thigh in your pocket would be enough to turn the screen on and thus drain your battery.
Not just drain your battery, but imagine calling people unexpectedly, random texting, somehow enabling options and selecting factory reset . There's a reason why there's a lock/unlock button.
Being a lefty, I wish you could turn the screen on using the volume buttons instead.

I can. Hold them for a second and the screen should turn on when you release them. If it doesn't let me know I'd like to investigate further.

Nope, not working. It turns it on using NoLock but then that just changes the volume too.
Im running Darkys 7 btw.

Holding the volume button does not turn on the screen, you probably touched the power button with you middle finger which holding the volume button with your thumb.
Widget Locker
Try the app WidgetLocker--it's a couple bucks but lets you turn on the screen with the volume buttons if you want (any hardware button). It will also let you customize your lockscreen with widgets and unlock the screen using the soft keys at the bottom if you so desire.
Mentioned this app in previous threads, should really start getting a cut from the developer.

You really should believe people when they say something works. Just because your rom works one way doesn't mean anything about everyone else.
Now if someone would give me a link to the roms which don't unlock due to the volume buttons, I might be able to fix that.
lmao love the music

I am not using a custom ROM. Maybe some custom ROM has that feature added but it definitely does not work on stock AT&T ROM.

I wish the volume buttons were lower on the case. I have a tendency to squeeze them with my finger when pressing the power button one-handed.

[Q] power button broken

so my power button is gone on my htc touch with android. i need to poke the small button inside with a penpoint or small object.
is there a way to re-map the button or another way to turn the phone on from sleep?
My power button is working but I have same concern. Developers, why don't use D-pad key for home/back etc functions? power/camera buttons are very critical because without them you may even have difficulty to enter bootload mode.
Atools will let you remap the keys
Thanks!. I have created an update that set Vogue D-pad as:
Left: Back
Center: Home
Right: Menu
Working perfect on my SuperFroyo.

I've used Atools to remap wake up to other keys but, it only works if i press those keys after receiving a notification.
have you been successful in waking up the phone from sleep without having to press the power button? are there additional settings i need to change?
I also have the same problem - my power button stopped working this afternoon for some reason and I cant wake up my phone except by calling it from another line or restarting it - any idea how i can change the wake up key? from what i gather, the atools fix isn't working?
Exact. Same. Problem. Using Incubus RLS16 (no audio input either... grrr...)
I remapped the power button and it will turn on but only under these conditions:
Phone just went into sleep, after a few minutes no response.
If it's plugged in.
Which makes me wonder... are there two different sleep modes? ie: light sleep which lasts for a few minutes when unplugged, and a deep sleep which kicks in after that, or never, when plugged in.
I only need to wait a few more weeks for my upgrade, but I want to be productive now!
Anyone have a solution to the phone not waking up problem - Ive realized its not my power button..
