I turned my Mobile Network (3g data) connection off for the night to conserve battery, and the next morning when I tried to connect again via the quick settings, it didn't connect.
Under settings it has the caption, "Connection Failed".
The network was working fine for ages prior to this, and on a few occasions, turning off Mobile Network for the night was fine.
I've tried resetting the phone and taking out the battery + SIM for a few minutes.
I've also tried re-entering APN settings with no luck.
I'm with Vodafone Australia, running the stock 2.3.3 virgin au rom.
Nobody else on vodafone is failing (relatively speaking )

Update:
It was a 3G widget messing everything up, thanks letmedanz
Any ideas?

Did you try wifi connection?
just wondering..
i am quite certain your problem is with the apn settings.
try deleting the existent apn and enter a new one. save it and try reconnecting...
though not very important, you could check for the port number to enter in the apn settings with vodafone.
also, if you are using any third party apn modification tools or even a simple 3G on-off widget, the settings do get wasted.
if you do, uninstall them, re-enter apn settings and try

I currently have something on the phone not allowing 3g access. I can't seem to figure out what it is, but I believe I narrowed it down to an App. I did a wipe and clean rom install and 3g was working fine. I did a titanium backup restore of all apps with data and now 3g isn't working again. Anyone know of an easy way to pinpoint what is blocking my 3g? I tried ending all tasks in advanced task manager, but I'm guessing the phone would need a reboot to bring back 3g?
Have you check you settings-wireless & networks-mobile networks-use only 2g networks?
ya I tried using only 2g network, I even tried researching the network and it finds tmobile in the settings. I even went as far as getting a fresh sim card prior to wiping the phone. Somehow after an app/data restore from titanium back up, tmobile internet no longer works still. It's why I wiped in the first place.
1) Double check your APN settings in settings > networks > mobile networks
2) In dialer, dial *#*#4636#*#* > choose phone info > scroll down > verify that 'set preferred network type' reads WCDMA preferred.
3) Also in settings, make sure you didnt set 'use 2g only'. Same location as #2 above
Thanks for your help. I actually just did a nandrestore from an image I had that was a week old and internet came back, so it has to of been something I done within a weeks time. I just hope I don't end up hitting the app that stopped it, if I think it was one, because thats the only thing that makes sense to me.
I have your same problem could you be so kind as to attach the img you put so I try too? thanks

Then you will have his phone.
you mean....?
i Think i have a similar problem... I turn 3g on and after half an hour i cannot access the internet anymore... The sign in the notification area shows the "sent arrow" blinking but the receive arrow does nothing... I have apndroid to control my 3g usage... I unistalled it, did a reboot but again the problem persists... Do you have anything in mind???
I forgot to mention that the exact same thing happens with 2g network as well

When someone does a nandroid backup, it backs up all the data on the phone. All of it, if you restore it to your phone, you will be logged into google as him, you will have all his contacts, messages, settings etc. If one of you downloads something, it may download on both machines. The only way to fix it would be to wipe both of them.
i have the same problem. two days ago its working fine. i just turn on turn off the wifi and it just works again.
Can also try turning the airplane mode on/off. This problem occurs if you use APNdroid or similar, or toggle mobile connection on the Desire ROM.
tired of trying and try to wipe, reset, several rom, so I decided to send it to HTC in England ... and the problem is which has the bootloader unlock my ...
Hey
I have a little problem which has rendered my N1 practically useless as a phone. I was on MicroMod's Gingerbread ROM for some and all was going fine. Today I decided to switch to CM7 nightly. It worked fine but after a reboot I realized that my phone was not connecting to my network. I rebooted, wiped and reflashed, tried a different sim, tried a different rom. Everything. It just isn't working. My network bars are grayed zero and there is a small cross on them. My notifications show my Service Provider's name (Airtel), and on the lockscreen it reads: (No Service)|Airtel. I went into network operators in settings and it says searching for a while then a toast notification pops up saying that there was an error while searching for network. What should I do? Any help will be appreciated.
Regards
Raptor
P.S.:It's not a network problem. I tried using my sim in another phone and it worked just fine.
Never mind actually. I fixed the problem. The device would sometime start connecting to the network properly for a few minutes. The 5th time that happened I went into mobile operators in the wireless and network section of settings. From there I selected my network and rebooted. My device has been working perfectly since then.

Used Odin to update to gingerbread from froyo on my i9000m the other day. Theres no service here at home unless I put the phone on the bathroom windowsill, so I didn't notice until today when I went to work that I wasn't getting any data network connection. Could make and receive calls fine, wifi works, but no data, so no browsing or facebook or any apps that require it. I called bell and they came to the conclusion that I have to send the phone in for repairs. Thats a absolute last resort, so I tried another factory reset, this time from the recovery menu. The first time, during set up I enabled wifi, this time on a hunch I did not, and it worked. Also note that the first time, the network connected for a split second before disconnecting again. Anyways, I was getting 3g fine, then I tried wifi, and it disconnected again. Turn off wifi, data comes back. Whats up with this?
Did you set your APN? Go
Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Network > APN Names
Then hit menu and add a new APN if none are there. If one is there, it's named something like 'browser' (at least that's what mine is called on my Bell i9000m) and I'm wrong. But I had this problem, and this is how I solved it. You can find the APN settings for your network by google-ing "[Provider] APN Settings]", and if you're on bell you can find them here:
http://support.bell.ca/en-on/Mobili..._Nexus_One_for_the_Bell_Mobility_HSPA_network
It says Nexus One but it works for all phones on bell.
settings are exactly as depicted on the bell site, except the apn was called browser instead of bell. changed that, same thing. other suggestions?
Can you tell me the version of gingerbread you're on, where you got the files, any mods to the firmware like pre rooting?
Sent from my GT-I9000M using XDA App
2.3.3, downloaded from here, no mods.
Alright, so totally stock. What's the version code? It should be UGKG3. Have you tried forcing a kies update with a registry hack? Was it one PDA when you flashed it or 3 files?
Sent from my GT-I9000M using XDA App
Yes, its UGKG3. I flashed with the PDA, PHONE and CSC files. I dont really know what you are talking about with regards to forcing a kies update, if you could explain I'd try it out
This has always happened to me, on Eclair, on Froyo, and now on Gingerbread. Whenever my Wifi is active *and* connected to a network, the Data through HSPA is automatically disconnected.
I always thought it was a battery saving feature - if you have Wifi access, and presumably internet access, then you don't need internet through the cell network, right?
So if you're not getting internet access when your wifi is active and connected, then perhaps it's a problem with your wifi router not passing external internet to your phone?
The thing is nothing changed besides the firmware. wifi worked fine here in the house before and no problems connecting to the data network on the go with wifi enabled. I'm really running out of ideas here.
I guess I misunderstood you before. Are you saying you have no data access at all when wifi is enabled, whether or not you are connected to a wifi network? If that is true, something is definitely wrong. That doesn't happen to me with KG3 - just checked.
Have you tried reflashing the modem file? Maybe it got messed up in your flash before?
Sent from my GT-I9000M using XDA App
yes, no data regardless of wifi connected or not, as long as its enabled.
which is the modem file?
just an update, this seems to have mysteriously fixed itself.
Hello all,
I flashed CM10.0 a few weeks ago and everything was working fine up until 2 days ago, now my I9000 won't connect to the internet at all. I was using Easy Battery Saver which cancels the data signal everytime the phone is idle, but this stopped turning the connection on. I uninstalled it hoping the phone would revert back to normal but can't get connected. I restored the app hoping it would pick up the settings again but still no joy.
I have wiped everything including user data and the caches, done a factory reset and reflashed the rom. The signal did return for about 30 minutes after the flash but the connection has since died again. I've tried switching on the roaming and national roaming, also no luck.
Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this or even how to fix it?
Thanks in advance

I am just guessing, but as from what I understand you uninstalled the application when you were not having the internet connection working. Right? The correct settings have possibly remained overwritten (some applications block the outgoing data traffic by changing the connection settings). Give APNDroid a try and if unsuccessful try going to your phone operator webpages and find the correct connection settings.
I am using CM10 with APNDroid which works fine. However sometimes I cannot connect to 3G as well. Switching the APNDroid on/off couple of times or rebooting solves the issue.

Thanks for the response mate. You guessed right, APNDroid hasn't fixed it and I haven't been able to find APN settings other than the one that is already in my phone. Might reverting to stock solve the issue? My contract is up at the end of the month so I could handle living with GB until then .
Hi again, reverting back will definitely not solve the issue. From what you had said I understand that the internet settings are somewhat messed up.
These settings are bound to your SIM card. By up/downgrading ROM these remain.
Could you check if your APN settings are correct (I assume you need to check with your provider).
Good luck and keep us informed.

Just found the APN settings online. Reset my APN and it looks to be working. I'll keep an eye on it just in case but I think either the ROM or the App messed up the user/password on the APN.
Hopefully it's all fixed. Thanks for all the help.
first try apn tweaker from market then if no luck what worked for me
1 flash darkyrom 10.2 re
2 alliancerom jw4
3 then jw8
working well for past week
My gf's phone won't connect to the network at all, the only way she can use her phone is if she is connected to wifi.
Here are the things I've checked so far
Bill has been paid
Restarted the phone
Double checked Airplane mode
Ensured there is not a data cap on the plan
Ensured there is not a data cap set on the phone
Double checked APN settings are set to t-mobile
Removed SIM card for 5 minutes and then rebooted
The phone has not been flashed nor rooted, it is stock.
What happens when she disables Wifi a message comes up 'Can't connect to network, please try again'
Not really sure what to do at this point, any ideas or things to try?
