Guitar Hero 5 Free on Amazon Appstore Today! - Xoom Themes and Apps

At market price of $8, it's a pretty good chance to save some money!
Just thought I would give everyone a heads-up.
It requires you to have an Amazon account with a payment option, but it doesn't actually push through any money. They have a free app that usually costs every day, but this is the first time I've seen anything over $4 listed as free.
Check it out if you don't already use Amazon AppStore.
EDIT: Not the best game in the world, but hey, it's $8 saved!

Like I always say to my wife... It's only a savings if you were going to buy it anyway!

does it actually play well and fullscreen on the xoom?
I would love Rock Band to work, like I had it on my Evo, but it's never worked right...so I didn't even try GH.
any comments welcome!

No its not compatible. It takes up about a fifth of the screen and the game is just not up to par, even if it were high Res.

Do you think about Call of Duty map pack pricing?

Article here: http://www.callofdutymappacks.com/news/the-price-is-right/ We have just gotten to the stage (or more xbox 360 uses have) where if they purchased all map packs, you'd have spent more money on the map packs than the game itself for Black Ops. Have a read! What do you think, is it too much?

I hadn't played Black Ops for a loooooooooooong time, and started playing again last weekend. I knew there had been map packs, but hadn't paid any attention to them, but when I had a look I was shocked at the price. I think they're WAY too pricey. I got the game for about £35, so it was relatively cheap for release day, but all the maps will total near on £33, so yeah. It's like buying another game!
I'm not buying them - simple as that. They'll drop the price and sell them as a bundle at some point, probably for about £20. I'll wait for that. Besides, I'm a noob all over again and I'm getting slaughtered! I need to learn to play it again before learning to play new maps
Definitely way over priced.
Sent from my SilverBullet 'HTCDesireZ running CM7'
I haven't bought any of them and don't plan to. The new COD will be out soon enough. Also the new pack that just came out is only zombies.
I never bought them. Higher priories then map packs
Please lengthen your message to at least 10 charters
If your an avid COD player you will end up drinking the Cool-Aid just to be able to stay in the game. If you don't purchase them - you will end up being in less and less lobbies.
Its extortion sure - but I like the new maps. I do wish they were $9.99 instead of the $15.99 - or get at least more content for the price.
And.. by the time they introduce lower pricing the community will have moved on to the next installation of COD: Steal Your Soul edition leaving the old ones in the dust.
I try not to think about the money... the movies nowadays are $9.99 a ticket, a Blue Ray is $24.99, and even a new hardcover book is more expensive.
For me its a decent price vs. value thing.
Im just waiting for my maps to download, i wasnt going to download them but all my mates have who play online. Yea they cost way to much, it should be a one of price for all downloadable content.
Once MW3 comes out they should drop to an almost reasonable price but who will be playing at that time?

I took out a free trial on the Android magazine, and it's rather good.

I don't think there is much we are missing now in the UK. We have the full content set, and if anything, more than the US (as we have scan and match on Google Music...)
Every magazine I go to on the Store states that 'This item isn't available'. I am using a rooted N7 with CM10 and the Play Magazine app installed.
How much are the subscriptions?
And whats the difference between subscribe and purchase?
Does purchase get the specific mag, whereas subscribing charges you automatically everytime a new issue is released?
Whats the advantages of subscribing?
THANKS!
Android mag is 32quid for a year sub ,normally in paper 52 + the mags by them selves are 2.99 as opposed to 5 quid !! Can't lose !!!!!!!
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium
Great, but that would only make a saving of £2? For buying a year.
I'd rather just buy episodes that look appealing than save £2 and have to have them all.
Because if theres 2/3 issues I don't really enjoy, thats another £6.
Although I agree that buying on Google rather than paperback is a win win.
Probably a silly question but, if I subscribe to the free trial, download the magazine then cancel the subscription, do I lose the downloaded magazine?
On the other hand, why don't I just try it?

And additionally if you get the trial, once the trial has ended does it prompt you or does it just automatically start your subscription?

I believe it holds the money for the trial period, and if you don't cancel, then money is then taken...
If you purchase, it's just that issue (in which case, take a free trial, read it and then cancel), if you subscribe, it's all of them. I'm guessing you can only try each magazine the once....
I did a trial subscription for the Android mag and it shows:

I am confused. Looking at Autocar for example it is showing as £2.99 a month (its a weekly magazine) or £99.99 for the year.
Aside from the fact that it is £89.99 a year direct from their website, why would you go for the yearly option?
I just paid 32 quid for the year for android mag as opposed to 50+ quid to me that's not bad !

I have signed up for the 30 day trial for the android magazine. It is a good read but there is only 13 issues so I don't think it is such great value. Also with Zinio you can get the same subscription for £27.49 for 13 issues which is 15% off the cover price. The price is £32.99 from the play store. Worth the trial but that's it!
I'm using a standard stock nexus 7 and getting the same response

[Q] $125 Google Play Credit

If you haven't bought your One yet (like me) you might wanna read this.
I just realized that if I buy an HTC One at RadioShack (Sprint, AT&T has this too) you get $100 in Google Play credit. Plus, if you register your device before July 15th, you get $25 in credit from HTC..
Holy cow, that is $125 in Play credit. :highfive: :good:
So, what the heck am I gonna do with all that? I'm not complaining but only trying to encourage discussion. I guess the main point of this thread is, what would/will YOU do with that?
EDIT: Perhaps I'll buy this!!

Yeah.... I won't be running out of Google Play money for a while though. You could say buy a movie or TV show, but I have Netflix. Another crappy thing is that you can't use Play credit to subscribe to Play Music All Access, which is dumb if you ask me. I can use Spotify on my computer anyway..

I think you meant links or it didn't happen?
So, once again, here's the scenario:
Somebody goes to RadioShack, and buys an HTC One--AT&T or Sprint, there's no difference for this--and then they receive $100 Play credit from RadioShack. SPRINT LINK AT&T LINK
Unfortunately, the AT&T has to be done in store due to RadioShack's agreements with AT&T. The Sprint can be bought online I believe.
After that, the person goes home, and goes to this HTC site to register their device and receive $25 in Google Play credit.
They now have $125 in Google Play credit at their disposal. They might have to use it before the end of the year or something (at least for the HTC given credit if you look at their ToS for the deal), but hey that's still a pretty good deal if you ask me. Especially if it's on a new contract, you will receive more Play Credit than you paid for the device itself (of course, there's a million other fees though.)
Stepped up and got this deal yesterday. took me a little while to figure out how to root it, but its up and running now! Just backing up stuff on my note 2 right now

Do you know if this is true for the $100 that RadioShack gives you? I looked at the fine print and didn't see any deadline for that credit to expire, but maybe I missed something.

I think only the HTC credit expires, if you read the fine print on their page. RadioShack does not, unless we're both mistaken. So, spend your $25 from HTC first, and then add your RadioShack and you shouldn't have to worry about expiration.
Wish I saw that 100 $ play store credit deal sooner... Just ordered my sisters HTC one last Wednesday... At least I got the activation fee waived through a promo :/

Amazon App Store: Plex for Android $0.99US or $1.09CDN

I wasn't sure where I should put this, but since it's a great program for Android/Chromecast I figured here would be a good place.
If you have the Amazon App store you can get Plex for $0.99US or $1.09CDN depending on which store you use. For those of you who don't have it yet, it's basically a steal at this price. You should definitely jump on it!
Helps solve a lot of the local casting issues without a bunch of workarounds.

I notice the Amazon version is 3.2.9.113 whereas the play store is 3.2.11.118.
I don't buy apps from Amazon, but it's the same apps from the same developer, right? Amazon is just slower to update? If you buy from Amazon, does the phone recongnizes that there is a new version? And then update from google? Does it work that way? I guess what I'm asking is who's going to tell me I need an update? The Play Services or Amazon's own prompt?
Yeah it's the same devs. It is just Amazon that hosts the updates and not Google. So they may be a bit slower. It will work exactly the same way though.
You need to keep the amazon app store installed as that is where the program will update from.
The prompt etc. will all go through Amazon.

Thanks for the tip (button pushed)!
I've been holding off (re-)buying Plex on Amazon until the price came down. I've gotten so used to only buying buying an app once on my Android/Play devices. The thought of buying an app again just for the one Amazon Android variant device in my home pisses me off. Plex, however, is worth it to me. Now this gives me a way to easily allow the baby sitter to play movies for the kids.

Haha, yeah I hear ya.
I keep the Amazon app store kicking around because they toss in paid apps/games/bundles for free relatively often. It's not really different from the Play store except that it's Amazon and not Google. If I'm going to buy an app I'll generally use the Play store, but occasionally there will be deals (like Plex) on Amazon that are worth it and I don't mind jumping on.
Amazon is terrible with keeping apps up to date. I downloaded Magic 2014 there and purchased some in game content. Now it's still stuck on a version 10 months old that doesn't support new features or content. For $1 I'm less worried, but I would never spend real money there again.

I could be wrong here, but I'm pretty sure you can blame the developer for that. Developers have to submit their apps to each "store", generally Apple, Google, and then Amazon. If they neglect to do so in a timely manner, you get outdated apps.

Well.....Yes and No....
Even in cases where the Developer keeps both up to date the Amazon App does not automatically update you and will not always notify you of one until you run their App...
Google will almost always automatically update you to the latest version except at times where the permission requests have changed significantly enough to require manual accepting of the new permissions.
And if your flashing custom roms a lot the other thing about Amazon is that unless the app is installed it not only won't update but the license will expire until you log in to Amazon at least once after every flash.
While it's nice to save money for the $3 or $4 I prefer to get most (if not all) of my Apps from Google.
But I sure understand why people are willing to go through the extra hassle to save a few bucks in this economy.

I think there's more to it. Something is blocking developers from getting their updates submitted or approved in a timely fashion. Maybe there's a confidentiality agreement that explains why the details are not clear to the public, but for some reason even apps from reputable developers are chronically behind in updates on Amazon.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk
One of the main reasons I installed Amazon appstore on my various Nexus tablets and phones is for the daily free apps. I have over 500 + so far and some of them are quite good, including those I already bought from Google playstore: swype and switfkey, Runtastic pro, SketchBook pro, etc., and tons of games. And don't forget about the Amazon coins promotions. I have over 500 coins so getting Plex for 99 coins is a no brainer because its free!
Also I remember, a while back, having Android devices that don't include Google playstore nor is it supported. It's much easier to side-load Amazon appstore in such cases. Even with all that I still think Google Playstore is more refined and works great on Google "approved" devices. Amazon has been making some major improvements to the UI lately though.

Google rewards app

I've been using the Google rewards app since February of this year. Don't know how of you use it. But I've gotten close to $12 in Play Store credit so far, which is awesome for the few seconds it takes to answer the surveys. So I highly recommend the app for anyone interested in some free Play Store credit.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.apps.paidtasks
Yup love love this app
I've been using the Google Rewards up for a couple of months now. As vikramjatt11 said, the surveys take just a few seconds of your time to complete and you get free Play Store credit. I've earned roughly $10.00 in credit and finally decided to use some of it on AccuWeather Platinum yesterday.
Love the app. Gotten roughly $7 in credit. Just about crapped my pants the day it gave me $1 just for answering the last time I visited my work.
I have been using it for about a year now and I am $20 in GPS credit!
Hoping GPS has the 21 days of Christmas apps sale again like they did 2 years ago. It was something like 10 apps a day for 10 cents each. I got so many good apps then, I believe I have 30 out of the top 100 paids apps (plus lots more)
yep, can't beat free credit on google to answer a few questions....love it
Not too shabby. I have plenty of time to take short surveys. It's not a ton of money, but it'll add up....and score me some Play Store apps. Thanks! :good:
Used to use that app, but it stopped giving me credit for surveys.

I was all set to give this a try but then it sounds like you get a few cents every few weeks and it takes couple of months to even get a dollar or two. Really doesn't seem like it's worth the effort.

Its all about demographics. The more of those free surveys you take, the more they can detail the paid surveys to you. I've had a few $1.00 surveys, but mostly 20-something cent ones.
But you are right, its still worth it. I've bought a few paid apps for a few minutes of my time each month.
I just installed it last night and had a survey about 15 minutes later. Earned a $1 and I think I answered 3 questions.
