I just got a g2x with gingerbread today. However, I can't root it.
Any advice? I can't live without cm7
By the way, It's really fast, and it has no bugs so far. The only issue is screen bleeding, but it doesn't bother me at all.

NVFlash a Froyo build and root
Have you tried the newest SuperOneClick?
Sorry, I didn't know there was a g2x forum.
I tried superoneclick, and it didn't work.
Can you please answer me one more question, since you mentioned nvflashing. So I don't need to root my phone before I do the nvflashing?

Correct, you don't. It works on a much lower level.
Does the gingerbreak app not work?

Also try VISIONary from the Market and let us know if that works on the N1 2.2.1. I have a hunch it might, but I'm already rooted.

so that means that i cant root it with universal android root?
No. SuperOneClick, or one of the other options...

I just confirmed myself, VISIONary from the Market roots 2.2.1 on-device. Have fun!
Is root with VISIONary permanent, or do you have to run it every time the phone is rebooted?
Try it, and report back...

Seems like r10 VISIONary (currently on the market) perm-roots the N1. At least I get "already rooted" whenever I run it even after storage wipe and reboot. I personally wanted only temp-root.
Please don't spam threads. There is already a Superuser zip file from ChainsDD which is quite well-used and well-documented. And this thread was from over a year ago and was about a completely different topic.
I just got a rooted Atrix 4G which is running 2.2.2 but I can't tell if its stock or not and I want to upgrade to Gingerbread somehow. I don't know what to do exactly in order to have it. So if some who has had the same question about this was able to upgrade to Gingerbread and could help me out that would be great. Also If i need to uproot in order to get it please help me out with that to I looked into aRoot and that seemed a little bit skeptical so just let me know via PM or the thread.
.......really? :|

for starters, go to menu>settings>about phone and see if anything there gives away the state of your rom. also, is your BL unlocked (does it show unlocked on motorola boot animation)?
If your phone has all the blur content and has certain things locked down and such then chances are its stock.
another thing to check is whether or not your system is deodexed as most custom roms are.
I don't know a foolproof way of checking myself.
Alright well I don't think my phone has a custom rom on it but here is what I have just to make sure im right. I do know my phone does not have an unlocked b.l
System Version: 4.1.83MB860.ATT.en.US
Model:MB860
Baseband: N_01.77.15P
Webtop: oshwt_u1_4.257.30
Build number: OLYFR_U4_1.8.3
Let me know if I need anything else. I would take a screenshot but the app doesn't work for some reason.

seems like stock. at any rate, the OTA image will fail to update during the version check if it's not. follow motorola's update instructions here: http://www.motorola.com/Support/US-EN/Android_Products/ATRIX-4G_Software_Update_Page

Hi guys, I'm new to this forum cause I'm using htc. I bought recently sgs for my girlfriend trying to convince that iPhone is not that great. I've updated to gingerbread threw kies and it started to reboot and freeze by itself. Is there any way to solve this problem or shall I flash a different software. I need sgs users opinion which firmware is the most stable or how to solve the reboot thing
Thanks a lot

Personally I was a noob on SGS cause I was on HTC too.. If you go on to youtube, theres a guy called 'androidgalaxys' on his videos he shows how to update to 2.3.4 its the official update too and that is very very stable and very fast. The file you download uses odin to flash.. He talks you through it. I hope this helps.

Thanks a lot for your help. Maybe you know what is causing those random reboots and freezes as far as I know people have them on many different firmwares. But if you recommend I'll try it.

Im afraid I dont. If you message that guy on youtube. He is very knowledgeable.

if so, what are the easiest and/or quickest ways to accomplish this? Thanks for any suggestions. Btw, rooting and applying the oclf are the extent of my modding knowledge, so phrase your replies, if any, with that in mind.

Firstly, what's oclf? I'm not quite sure what that is. The official update guide from Samsung recommends removing root before installation, at least if I recall correctly. You can read it to make sure. But I know many have installed it while rooted and with no problems. It's basically depending on how comfortable you are

If you're on gingerbread. Search for Megatron root in this forum. Otherwise ICS is out and is easily rooted.
