[Q] How do I unlock my Galaxy Tab? - Galaxy Tab Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
Well I was able to install a stock UK Gingerbread ROM, but now that I have the phone function enabled, I need to unlock my TAB and would like instructions. Here are the specs that I have:
Model number: GT-P1000 (Originally Bell)
Firmware: 2.3.3
Baseband: P1000XXJPZ
Kernel: 2.6.35.7
[email protected]2 #2
Build: GINGERBREAD.XXJQ1
I also noted that my SGT is not rooted. Am I able to root it? I tried with z4root, but it seems it doesn't work with Gingerbread.
In the end I would love to install Overcome.
Thanks for your help.
Bruno

To root it you need odin and c4 root
To install overcome Jupiter(for gingerbread). Try this site:

c4root doesn't seem to work on gingerbread 2.3.3...
Any way to unlock it?
Thanks.

you need to be rooted
i think you need to back to stock froyo and then root it , use Unlock Galaxy S from the market and this free app will do the trick for you , and then flash stock gingerbread
and then you can flash anything u want ............
use superoneclick for rooting froyo stock

None of those things already posted will root gingerbread. On top of your stock rom (is it UK or Spain?), flash the CF-Root v3.3 kernel. The file goes in the PDA line of Odin (I hope you can use that program, because it can't be done through keis).

UK ROM...Thanks.

Amazing!! Thanks ranger captain! Used CF-Root v3.3 to root SGT UK ROM using Odin3 v1.7 on Win 7 64, then unlocked with SGS Unlock Pro (5$ on Android Market).
Now rooted and unlocked using Rogers Sim (initially a Bell Tab).
Sweet!!

You are welcome. Glad you got it done. You will never have to unlock it again, but you might have toroot it again when you upgrade the rom, so remember what you did.

Trying To Upgrade Version?

Hey guys, I'm basically new to all of this flashing roms n stuff. I am currently running Firmware 2.2 Baseband Version UCJI6 Kernel 2.6.32.9 [email protected]#1 Build FROYO.UCJI6. I updated to that with odin3 one click so my phone hasnt been rooted either. Obviously I want to upgrade my phone to a more recent version of 2.2 but am not sure how to go about it. I tried to update the kb1 that was just released by samsung but kies mini will not read my phone. Do I need to flash back to my stock 2.1, if so how do I go about doing that? Can anyone please help me. Id really appreciate it. Thanks!
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
Yea, you need to go back to 2.1. However, I have no faith in kies what-so-ever. It outright refuses to upgrade my girlfriends stock captivate...

I'm having the same issue... I tried to flash back to stock ROM using ODIN, but it just kept me on JI6 build. Any help?

[Q] can't find the nv_data.bin /efs is empty

Hi Forum
I read the thread of Dagentooboy and would like to simunlock my SGS as he suggest. First I rooted it and now I like to backup the /efs/nv_data.bin
but my /efs directory is empty?
I use the “root system tools “ which only works if the SGS is rooted (I think so ) and tried to find the file with $find / -name 'nv_data.bin' without success.
Can you give me a hint what I should do?

works just fine!
thank you kanasai87 GMH24,
but helroz is not recomending to do it with froyo
It's possible to made this on froyo but not advised and not really tested (I repair codes at the same time but at the first start froyo change codes by FFFFFFFF)

then u can flash back to eclair n unlock your phone with it

Flashing an Eclair rom won't help as it is crucial to Helroz' app on which firmware version the phone was originally running! Was it 2.2 when it came out of the box?
Mine was 2.1 but I unlocked under 2.2.1

but i hav flashed 3 i9000 originally running froyo. they work normal for about 2 months

of course it works with froyo as well, however flashing back to eclair won't change the situation...
Kanasai87, what was after the 2 months?
GMH24, the original was:
Basisbandversion I9000XXJM1
Kernel 2.6.29
root SE-S603 #2
Build ECLAIR.XWJM7
provider is orage.at
and about 2 month ago I install the update with kies

excellent, so just try helroz' galaxy s unlock! At step 2 you should see that there are 2 options, one for phones sold with 2.1 and one for 2.2! Choose the first option and it should work! Oh, and don't skip step 1 or 3 just because I don't mention them!
Hi GMH24,
just to verify, as I bought the SGS I had the version like:
Basisbandversion I9000XXJM1
Kernel 2.6.29
root SE-S603 #2
Build ECLAIR.XWJM7
after upgrade 2 month ago I have now:
Firmware 2.2
Basisbandversion I9000XXJPP

root SE-S608 #1
Build FROYO.XWJPH
to you still mean:
excellent, so just try helroz' galaxy s unlock! …

or should I downgrade the kernel (never have used odin but could not so difficult I guess)
tia
ron
Yes I still think that you should try that app! What you are running now does not matter, only what was originally running! As I already posted, my phone originally had 2.1 but when I used this app to unlock, I was running 2.2.1 (JPY, I guess).
Don't flash anything, just unlock!
ok, will post the result

i originally fudged my tab and fixed it with http://www.thegalaxytabforum.com/index.php?/topic/443-how-to-flashing-euro-firmware-on-samsung-galaxy-tab/[/URL] im wondering if my tablet is rooted or not as it states
Basically is you’ve never installed a custom ROM before, if your Tab is running the stock ROM or if you’ve installed a ROM from samfirmware.com, it’ll be best to look at this preparatory steps below, especially if you’re coming from the stock Froyo 2.2-based ROMs:
* Your Tab must be rooted. (Please look for SuperOneClick root method as it’s usually the safe bet! But for more information on rooting, please refer here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=812367)
* IF YOU’RE FROM A 2.2.x/Froyo-based ROM: You are not using protected bootloaders! Just to be sure, please go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=888071 and download the bootloader patch apk. Install it and patch your bootloader!
(Don’t assume you’re might not have protected bootloaders! Just download the patch and test it, if this is the first time you’re using Overcome! It’s not a big file to download…)
(NEW EDIT/WARNING: If you’re already on Gingerbread… DON’T TOUCH THE BOOTLOADER! I REPEAT: DON’T TOUCH THE BOOTLOADER!!! The note above was for Froyo-based users that want to upgrade to Overcome ROM 2.x only)
* You must have the proper drivers installed. Your best bet, if you’re coming from the stock ROM, is to have the Samsung Kies software installed and connected at least once.
and was wondering if i could brick it as that step is the only confusing bit (the rest im confident in doing just not this bootloader bit
It is stated in the instructions that if you're coming from Froyo, you must patch the bootloader before flashing 2.3.3. Just follow the link I provided in the previous post and read about bootloader.
Basically:
If coming from Froyo: download bootloader patch and install it then follow instructions to flash Gingerbread.
I hope this helps

Question re. rooting a UK Tab

Hi all,
Tesco in the UK are selling the 7 inch Galaxy Tab for £149, down from £399, so had to buy one.
I'd like to root it but not sure if it is one of the rootable Tabs.
This is the information from About Device:
Model number: GT-P1000
Firmware version: 2.3.3
Baseband version: P1000XXJPZ
Kernel version: 2.6.35.7 [email protected] #2
Build number: GINGERBREAD.XWJP9
In the Mobile network type it says HSDPA
Is this Tab rootable, and if so, which method should I use, and which files do I need to download?
Many thanks
Gaz
Hi Gaz.
I managed to get one last night from tesco too.
Just rooted it using the method on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=812367
Very easy.
Now I'm on the hunt for a decent custom rom, but need to install recovery first :s lol

Thanks for the reply. Sounds like you rooted it before updating the ROM to Gingerbread in kies. You would have been running the original Froyo ROM, which I believe the method above works for. I don't think it works with Gingerbread.
I don't want to install a custom ROM, just want more control for backing up, removing bloatware, etc.
Thanks
Gaz
You're right (sorry I had missed you had Gingerbread right out of the box). I rooted the stock Froyo version, then updated to Gingerbread via the Samsung Kies updater.
Then I re-reooted using the following:
http://www.review-ninja.com/2011/08/root-samsung-galaxy-tab-7-gingerbread.html
Very simple and works for GB ;-)
Thanks for the link. Nice to know it works. If it works on yours it should work on mine; I just wasn't sure which of Chainfire's kernels to download as he lists several here on XDA and none seemed to match my Tab. I'll give it a go.
Cheers
Gaz
That worked a treat.
Thanks for your help. Always safer to check before doing this as it would be embarrassing if I'd bricked a 1 day old Tab!
Great value at £149. Thank you Tesco!
Glad you're sorted
Yeh kinda impossible to take it back for an exchange if you brick it, seems like the stock is well and truly gone now.

@OP : You can Google for your stock rom. Shouldn't be hard. If you are planning to flash gapps , choose gapps for gingerbread.

I ended up using 5830i XXLA2 PDA XXLK1 MODEM and BTULK1 CSC Works fine with these!
I am hoping to secure an S2 from a friend when he upgrades next month so I am looking forward to AKOP or CM10 or some hybrid of them like P.A.C who knows but I have more experience in Android now and I can have some funky fun with the 5839i now xD Lost count how many times I have bricked it due to experiments while I learn!
Even managed to Format the EMMC to Ext4 and install a rom I cooken in dsixda kitchen and use latest kernel from our friend in Rio using the CWM version of the kernel. Next on my list is making a kernel.
I learn by breaking stuff and its fun normally fixing it.
No matter how messed up it can get I can always restore the stock fw from samfirmware or the custom frankenstien split pack I 'assembled' *cough*
