Is anyone using this version of Miui: Optimus2x 1.7.29 from: http://miuiandroid.com/roms/miui-development-roms/
If you are, could you please let me know how stable it is and if their are any major bugs. I know there are other posts out their, but they are just pages and pages long. Just need to konw if it is good rom or not, as i am currently running the stock rom.
thanks
There is a (fairly short) thread about MIUI bugs, you just have to search for it.
Opening new threads just because you don't want to read the existing threads doesn't help the usability of this forum, so please try to refrain from it in the future. You can always ask your questions in the existing threads and though maybe some will also bi*** about that because the question was already answered in that thread, it is a far more organized approach.
Cheers

Sorry for being lazy.
Having read the thread you mentioned, I might leave installing the rom, until it is a little more stable.

What about the battery life? is it roughly the same as the stock rom or better/worse?

About the same as the froyo stock ROM for me, not great.
I also had a random black screen once when a call came in, It went after about 2 minutes but didn't record the missed call so i had no idea who called me
Luckily they called back a few mins later. That's the only major-ish bug i've found so far.
For me the battery life is great, since I installed it my phone could run 2 days with one charge, which didn't happen with Froyo.

On topic: after freezing and disabling some stuff I actually got "normal" battery life out of this ROM
Off topic: once again, please, do not make this a 3rd thread for the same ROM,
The MIUI main thread, as well as the MIUI bug thread cover those topics to a great extent, and solutions will be very hard to find if they are scattered over 3 threads.
Cheers

Miui roms just not eat your battery, they also rape it.

O.K very funny...very...
On this kind of questions, google search engine is working.
If there is nothing or a lot of people on google are searching for this kind of information, and if you give in this forum some useful informations, than owners of xdadevelopers and we all, have something...
Do, JJEgan and jetpackjeff think the same?
I suggest that everybody give something positive...
I'm a little stupid, but i worked for years on unix os and my first pda was i-mate...that was a lot of years ago.. ouuu I'm so old....
I read everything and just want to have a discuss,
is really so good ?
Is there any comparison what can be better or more fast etc...??
Btw; I'm still laughing, and sorry both

Do you have seen something in live?
On the webpage in forum i found a link where i found maximum information regards my question...
CyanogenMod is a custom ROM that is available for a number of Android devices. It's goal is to bring the vanilla Google experience to these devices, but it also brings it's own tweaks that better the experience.
The current build is running Gingerbread 2.3.3 (Build GRI40),
more here:

This is all i found...nothing about speed performance in general and applications ...

Is this question rhetorical or are you asking a real question and expect a real answer?
Some of get confused with all the numpties on here asking questions where they refuse to search read the faqs etc .
I inadvertently put the OP in that category due to the topic .

Can't really mention about it yet because ours(2.3.3 it is) is still a beta version, well same goes to the other too....well, it's definitely faster because Gingerbread use ext4 file, unlike RFS file like our SGS...and also some other things....oh yea, the camera supposed to have more features like brightness control, etc...the tv-like shut down feature when you relock your SGS....performance, currently, due to some bugs, it's kind of sluggish...as it is a ROM, you can customize more things than the official version, thus, it benefits the devs to tweak it some more...as you can see also, CM gives the old Android Phone the newest version of Android feel, so they won't feel being abandoned....
I don't really have much to add but due to forum posting rules I can't post on the Dev thread until I have clocked ten posts although it would seem you are able to post threads I'm other forums that are unbelievably pointless... currently running today's experimental build of cm7, seems good so far, SD mounted, camera seems less glitchy, all the radios working. Haven't tested GPS yet...

Wrong, CM7 for SGS uses the YAFFS2 filesystem.

That's a negative way to look at things. Why is it that people in XDA are so quick to trash ideas or questions?.
It may be biased, but in the end EVERYONE has chosen a rom to have on their phone, so why not share the stats with everyone else? Might help some others decide which of the many ROMs to try out.
I found Tricky's essential rom to be the best regarding simplicity, battery life and performance. I like to manually install everything I will use, so that keeps the system lightweight. I only wish it had battery icon w/ percentage by default!

Darky's 9.4 + VooDoo 5.5.1 works great for me.
Using Darky 10 Final and waiting for CyanogenMod 7 Final
Darky 10 is good, cm7 is better if you can handle 12 hours of battery life... I'm on ultimate 8.2 right now and I have actually kept it on for over a week.... oh and don't forget about the goodness that is MIUI. Install that and its like a totally different phone.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium App
i've tried Darky's ROM up to 9.5, Doc's ROM & now on MIUI..i think, every ROM got it's own strength which is amazing given that the ppl that manufacture the phones can even give a decent update even after few months..
but..MIUI is totally different and cool to use! Even though the battery drain is visible, maybe need a couple of charge cycles to stabilize..all in all, it's refreshing n can keep me away frm flashing at least for few weeks (or till the next update..hehe)..
i think this is a good poll !!
if you can find out how to edit it, and adjust when new ROMs come out.
this could save a lot of people posting pointless threads about what ROM to choose and why.
they can see what the majority of people go for, and if we can write a little explanation of what ROM we chose and why, it could be beneficial
I chose MIUI - it has developed a hell of a lot in the past few weeks, all the main features work, there is updates weekly without fail, Very helpful team of devs and the ROM is super nice and is nothing like any other ROM out there !!
For a long time I was very happy with darky 8.x but lately I have been trying out almost all the roms in the poll and since a couple of weeks back I have been a extreamly happy user of MIUI.
Feels like it have brought new life to my sgs, the only downside is the battery time.
Insanity everytime, light fast...make it your own!

CM7&MIUI: Great but to hungry of battery.

Darky: Very smooth but a little hungry to battery.
Insanity: Simply Android. Plain.
MIUI -MCG v2.1 is the best ROM in town
GingerCriskelo v56 is the best

There is no best ROM. It solely depends on your preference.
Cassie's XtraLiteRom was the 1st ROM I flashed with. But it removed too many features which I deemed essential.
Then I flashed to DarkyNote ROM. But I encountered too many bugs.
Finally, I flashed Sheep ROM, and have been using it ever since for 2 weeks.
No bugs as of yet. I like its balance of pure stock and optimizations/tweaks.

i started off with darkrom, had it for 2 days, but it was a bit buggy..
then i moved on to rocket, which was pretty good, except it drained the batt faster than stock :S
i'm now on checkrom, i've had it for a week, and i couldn't be more satisfied.. great battery life, i've gotten up to 40hrs on above moderate usage, good performance, and the kitchen pro app that it comes with is amazing.
I also settled on checkrom for the battery life and stability.

Again you're right.
But in this way ppl can save time, making an idea of pro/cons of some ROM.
Do you never look at the rating or comments about an app to decide wether install it or not or wether it worths to try it?
For ROMs I think this kind of opinion is much more important and useful.

Let's be honest here...there IS a best rom at any given moment. There is very little criteria needed to decide which is best:
1) speed/performance
2) battery life
3) functionality/options
4) theme/aesthetica
1 and 2 are pretty straight forward, 3 doesn't have much budge room either and for 4, some people like loud and colorful cartoons on their phones and others prefer a cleaner, more minimalist look.
I can never understand why so many people dislike this kind of best rom thread. There ate a lot of smart, informed people on here who could offer better insights as to the pros/cons of multiple roms, why discourage this?
I've used every rom in the Dev thread and it its crystal clear to me that rocket rom is far and away the best in all the aforementioned categories. Cassies was ok but too thin, sheep rom was good at first but got swallowed up by the competition. Check rom is good but rocket is better, darky flat out sucked and there its no reason to go into the rest.

Can I help me pick a rom too? I'm reading up on Rocket ROM and Check ROM right now though.
Here's what I need:
1 & 2 - Max / best possible combination.
3 & 4 - I may only need highly-significant, innovative changes that you can judge as sort of.. "something you've been missing" while on stock rom. But then again, I may not have much regard for a specific item so I can probably live without it.
THANKS!!
Tbh, DarkyROM really seems to be buggy. I've read too many bug reports in that thread. I tried the ROM myself, and encountered numerous bugs as well.
I'm going to try Rocket ROM to see if jason370's claims are true.
I think we need some AOSP-based ROMs ASAP.
EDIT:
I've tried CheckROM v2 before, too.
I got random bootloops with AbyssNote v2.8, so I was forced to restore back to Sheep ROM.
Only recently received my shiny new Galaxy Note and the first thing I did was root it, CWM it and get the following ROM installed:
CheckROM Revo NoteHD
The reason I opted for this one is that the ROM Kitchen adds a lot of options for customization which means the tweaks I get are decided by *me* and not a ROM developer. So far I have yet to experience any problems with it and it did allow me to overclock. It even goes as far as letting you switch kernels from the device its self, can't fault that!
So far I'm a happy chap and glad I switched from my old iPhone 4!

Running Checkrom on my SGS2 and planning on running the same thing on the galaxy note when i get it this week. its the perfect rom for people who want a stock experience on steroids. Im guessing the note version is basically the same thing.
However, Im kind of shocked about many users reporting bad battery life and laggyness on the note. That was my main problem with most android phones since day 1 and have not had a single issue like that with my sgs2 since ive had it. I was hoping the note would be an improvement over that, I guess i will have to find out.

I have tried Rocket and currently on CheckRom V3.
My personal experience, Rocket has better battery life. I would get atleast 2 days on Rocket. This was on the older V14 version. eybee has already released v17. For the same amount of usage, CheckRom V3 drains in a day.
If you would like to keep all the samsung apps that come with the stock rom without the hassle of trying to figure out which apps you want and which you don't want, Rocket will be good.
CheckRom has the Samsung apps removed. However you can install them from the Kitchen. I like the Kitchen option in CheckRom. If you are open to customizing your rom a lot, this is a good.
+1 for the [JAN 9][XXKL7][2.3.6][FINAL] CheckROM Revo NoteHD™ V3 its running on Steroids!
+ Kitchen App
+ very smooth with Abyss 3.0
+ lasts more than 2 days on battery with moderate/normal use

I found the thread I had mentioned, but it's old. It has been almost a year since there were any constructive posts. It was full of squabbling, so I won't bring it back to life by posting a link to it. Too bad though, cause the guy who started it had good intentions.
Probably best to let this thread die also. Battery / performance comparison threads seem to get ugly after a while.

this phone is almost three + years old. so many ppl have moved to newer versions. those who still has this phone are moved on to ICS (Ice cream Sand-witch (4.0.4) based ROMs. ICS is fast, stable and good on battery as well.
that's why there is no action on GB based ROMS.
I am on Slim ICS and highly recommend it.
until they get the encryption unsuccessful bug worked out that is a pretty good reason to recommend staying with the gingerbread roms
i suggest you go with gingerbread because it was tested that it has a better battery performance plus the graphics drivers upgraded.

Probably try another one too...
Think I've had my phone for around a year now and it's been Rooted for most of it's life with me. Think it came with ICS and I stuck some firmware that quite possibly was a version of JB.
It stayed like this for many months until one morning after waking with cold feet I pondered, "I shall flash my phone once more".
And so the journey began (sorry, been watching The Lord Of The Rings).
Anyway, after sticking Recovery on. I've now tried several firmwares. I'm no pro and even after a year with this phone, still no expert on it's native settings or capabilities but do know what I like.
Some of the firmwares I've tried I've not liked, some I've tried may have had some sort of Bug very early on or possibly an error from my methods of flashing. Those firmwares were changed for another and quite quickly too.
And this is I guess the point. As my phone stands now, with ClockworkMod Recovery v6.0.3.1, I can quickly change firmwares.
I have settled on one now but I've also seen some quite nice ones that I'd like to spend more time with. For now though, I'll rest up and get a better long term feel for the one I'm with now
im on zaiben rc7 now .
pros : stock feel , nice battery , nice lockscreen
cons : some games are slow and u cant change kernel
tried a lot of roms , liked miui but it lacked some options like ums mode .
I'm using PAC at the moment and after installing a custom kernel, I can say it is the most complete ROM out there.

Performance was even worse at first, it was almost unusable. But after changing the kernel, most of the sloppiness disappeared
In case you haven't read it yet, I bet you might wanna read THIS (especially #4 in this case)
